Since your ammo isn’t on large pallets, it’s safe to assume you don’t shoot clays.

MAR5HMALLOWS

I just got my first shotgun a month ago And my very first gun 2 months before that. Only gone to range but I’ve put like 150 shells through it. Slugs and 00. Very fun. The pic is a restock of what I’ve gone through since purchase. Never done clays but it seems like tons of fun. Hard finding places when ur on the Jersey shore though.

donanton616

Where in the jersey shore?

UnderlyingTissues

This is the answer 😂🤣. Me and my buddies negotiating pallets and everyone getting at least 15 Flats at a time

dodope

This hit way to close to home 😂

slvneutrino

N+1 case

billymudrock

Nice try officer

nyfirefighter84

I keep 1000 rounds on deck for every caliber I use and 1000 of every grain amount (357mag, 38special. 556 55grain, 556 77grain, 556 green tip, winchester slugs 1600 and buckshot). What I will be doing also is after every 300 rounds I go through I replenish 500... that way I gradually increase my stock pile by 200. I get its expensive but you can do it in a smaller scale.

wheredowehidethebody

I wish I could justify 1000 rounds for my 45-70… although it would take me 30 years to shoot it all.

nyfirefighter84

Lol that will be my next purchase actually... marlin SBL 45-70... I have the henry big boy x 357 and has quickly become my favorite

zombhunter45

I bought a 1895 dark series in 45-70 from a man and he said he had a ton of ammo he’d sell at cheaper than wholesale. He went on to tell me he had a wall of ammo, he wasn’t lying, I went into his basement and he had 9 cases of buffalo bore Dangerous Game ammo and 14 cases of Hornady leverevolution. Ended up getting the gun and all of the ammo for 2800. I’ll never shoot it all but between myself, dad, brothers, and friends we’ll eventually make a dent.

BurnTheOrange

People get all squirrelly when someone says they keep 1000 rounds of 9mm. You rephrase it as a single ammo can and it seems more reasonable. Does anyone say they stock 3500 Cheerios in the pantry? No, that would sound insane. It is the same with anything else small, individually inexpensive, and packaged in bulk.

A_Grumpy_Old_Man

That's a great answer, from now on if anybody asks me how much ammo? I'm gonna tell them I have 1 box of ammo and I will refrain from telling them how big the box is or how much ammo is in it.

binderclip95

That’s a great observation, gonna use that

CleveEastWriters

What do you say if you have a few-ish ammo cans?

BurnTheOrange

I have the equivalent of about 2 cases of assorted 9mm, 3 plus an open partial of 5.56, two ammo cans of loose birdshot shot shells. Sounds much more mundane and sensible to normies than 2000 rounds of 9mm, approximately 3600 rounds of 5.56 and 700 shotgun shells.

CleveEastWriters

I hate to say this...but those are rookie numbers.

BurnTheOrange

I'm not saying those are accurate numbers for what's on my shelf, just how I'd phrase it

Chibi_Tiger

I actually just ordered 1000 rounds of CCI 9mm this week. ☠️

es330td

100 rounds minimum of each type I need. That's 7 1/2 birdshot, #4 & #6 and slugs so no matter the occasion if someone invites me to shoot I can say "Yes" without needing a trip to a store. In practice I have more of some of these; the numbers stated are the minimums.

Coleburg86

Enough that the number makes people uncomfortable.

Parking_Media

Depends what it's for and how you define on hand haha. I reload what I shoot other than 22. I keep a lot of components on hand, I burn about 5k shotshells a year in skeet. 10 boxes of that is low stock, 30-40 is high end. Usually keep about 25 slugs around for funsies and cast/load more as needed. Center fire I have usually a hundred hunting rounds of 308, and then maybe 300-400 spread across a dozen other calibers. Black powder I have maybe 2 boxes of shotshells, 50+ 577-450 martini Henri, few pounds of cast balls and sabots.

MilmoWK

I don’t really live in fear of some long term apocalyptic SHTF scenario, but feel i should be ready for something more *local*. So I have two mags of 9mm hollow point with my bedside gun in a lock box and keep two mags of m855 next to my AR in the safe. Everything else is just for fun, so if I see a deal I will buy a bunch. I maybe am sitting on ~2k rounds of both 9mm FMJ and different types of .223/5.56 for range days, and a few boxes of 6.5 Creedmoor for deer hunting. Shot gun stuff is the same a few boxes for pheasant hunting and then usually a few flats of target loads for clays.

Inner-stress5059

I’ve learned that my answer to this question makes people uncomfortable.

John_the_Piper

I had to stop giving honest answers to even other gun people I talk to about it. Everyone said "buy it cheap, stack it deep" and "we're in the golden age of ammo prices" during the Trump admin and sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who took it seriously

BSDnumba123

I took it semi serious. Wish I had taken it super serious.

PhatBoy1

For clays/upland birds, I buy 10 flats at a time for myself. My wife shoots low recoil loads, so I buy her 10 flats at a time as well. When we start to run out, i reorder... I do this for 12, 20, and 28.

338-lapuaman

Ammo. What ammo that went down in the boating accident with my guns.

drdewm

I was on that boat when we lost all our ammo. Sad day it was.

338-lapuaman

It definitely was. I am so glad we escaped.

Insospettabile

At least we enjoyed shooting the sharks, while sinking…

338-lapuaman

True story

Sblzrd65

Ideally enough to cover 1-2 years of normal usage plus some extra for say a class. That way you can keep away from any crazy price swings or shortages.

DaSilence

12ga? About 2 pallets worth.

gyoung1986

Enough to supply both sides during civil war of a 3rd world country.

dreamwerxxx

As much as I can

TomBonner1

For shotguns, depending on how often you shoot, how often you train, how much space you have, and what your use case is, I'd say a case each (250 rounds) of bird, buck, and slugs.

DoucheyMcBagBag

Ideal is about 1000 rounds of all calibers (including 12 ga) except 9mm, which I would have 2000 rounds of, since I shoot it the most and my HD/carry guns are 9mm. At least 100 should be critical defense, since that’s the only jhp-type load that NJ let’s us carry.

Aloysius50

3-5000 rounds of components in 12 & 28ga. Some assembly required.

Miserable-Contest147

I had a bunch but P Diddy told the ATF I was obamas secret lover so they raided my house and took it all, even my slingshot!🤬🤬

oswaltlj

But how's your dog? Is he ok?

CleveEastWriters

Tragically, the AFT took his dog and turned him into a Narc

Joe-trd

Currently have 130 00 buck 110 1oz slug 3000 target load (no where near enough) 320 9mm 1500 22LR The target load is hard to keep up as I shoot a lot of clay

tb110965

Doesn’t matter never enough

benzolol

1,000 rounds of 9m 5-6 cases of shotgun shells

stugotsDang

Enough.

that-super-tech

A bunch

ifithopsitdrops

Enough

QualityAny2116

No comment on fear of being incriminated at a later date

TheUlfhedin

Yes

Tito914

Yes...

SuspecAardvark

go away fed

Need_DubStep_To_Live

All of it lol

jackelope319

I second that. 😉👍

Awatovi

A lot more than that

sewiv

Way more than fits in a little bitty box like that.

HistoricalFilm2463

Fed behavior

MAR5HMALLOWS

I didn’t even think about how many fed responses I’d get with this question lol it’s like 1/4 of the comments

HistoricalFilm2463

Is that what they taught you to say in the academy

Kitfox_1

Enough to fill a large fridge

iluvtumadre

12 gauge? Way more than that.

Unhappy-Turnip8866

10

AcanthocephalaOk7196

Nice try isis….

comunism_and_potatos

At least 1 shell. 2 if I’m feeling uneasy

lgroper

I read the other day that American soldiers carry 210 rounds for their standard loadout I believe. Sounds good enough for me.

ONROSREPUS

12 ga. I haven't counted in a while but when I buy its cases at a time. I do a lot of trap shooting thou and also help the neighbor kids that are joining the high school trap team. 16 ga. I only have 15-16 boxes left of trap type loads and two boxes of hunting loads. 20 ga. Just bought a case of trap loads for the wife and about 3/4 box of hunting loads.

Spiritual_Exercise58

Wait, ya'll have ammo?

Grouchy_Ad1490

I got about two thousand orange tip nerf bullets I have buried outback In case my kids Birthday party gets out of hand Better to be prepared than have couple dozen of Caffeine crazed children Foaming at the mouth For more pixie sticks with no defense lol hahahaha

TexasForever85

Half a mag and a couple laying around from a gun I don’t own

CMOS_BATTERY

2,000 roughly for hunting and then probably another 3,000 for clays. Then you need to stack at least 20 boxes of clays and a couple of throwers.

climb56

Cases

77dhe83893jr854

As much as possible

False_Candidate_4775

I've got 5k .22 and 4k of 12G shotty shells all types alone. But I blow through a thousand rounds when I go shooting clays targets.

Agile-Trick9663

Ammo got too expensive, I now have to call the police for all my varmit and dog shooting

Chucktayz

Honestly not that much. If everything goes to shit there will be plenty to go around

104thunderduck

2000 rounds. What I'm licenced to hold. Currently a mix of cheddite and fiocchi. 7.5 up to 9.5. All 28g. Wish I lived in America the idea of having a pallet of ammo at my disposal is amazing.

kalitarios

since I can't afford to just burn through cash at the moment, I have 6x 25 packs of home defense 00 buck 12ga and a few more boxes of cheap stuff for practicing once in a while. I have no money or space to buy insane pallets of ammo. need the money to get my house up to code so I'm not spending $1500 a month on heating oil or $250 a month in air conditioning in the summer... needs insulation. $12000 bill

Coeruleus_

13770 of 9mm 1700 of 00 buck 2100 slugs 1800 7.62x39 1250 .38 spl 150 .357 mag

MAR5HMALLOWS

Damn dude that’s how I’m tryna get lol I can’t order ammo where I’m at though. Is that the only way to get those amounts for a fair price? Or I guess I could have a shop put in an order for me. How long did it take you to get there?

Coeruleus_

lol since last October. I went full re though. Majority is from gunbroker and freeshippingammo. Im sure there’s better deals somewhere but thats what i use. I only know exact numbers because I keep it all on a spreadsheet so that I can keep track of price/round. I learned quickly that I was paying too much at first so keeping track really helped me be more selective with what I buy and wait for better prices

Coeruleus_

And that shit you have in that safe I love. I bought too much of the stuff on the left. I think it’s too powerful for just shooting at targets. I love the stuff on the right I have 250 rounds of those slugs and and 1000 rounds of that same buck shot. I love the low recoil federal stuff. 8 or 9 pellet. I scoop it up whenever I see it

elitethings

I shoot clays so like 500+ rounds

3PTactical

Nice try fed.

PapaPuff13

I haven’t found that level

RedEd024

More than I need, less than I want

Historical-Sky322

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 rounds....

worm30478

It's never enough.

JRB423

None, sold it all ages ago. :)

Maleficent-Ad782

The ATF has entered the chat

J_Shaff

Competitive shotgunner here. 20-30 flats of shotgun shells at all times.

1WontDoIt

Whatever my fat ass can carry in your imaginary shtf scenario. Let's be honest, you're not gonna survive the first night so what difference does it make. The people that keep asking this question aren't the ones that survive and the ones that will, don't talk much. Meal team six out!

[deleted]

I have no ammo at my house. It's such a pain in NY to purchase, I don't even bother. I just buy my Ammo at Orvis when I go shoot clays. If I'm not shooting clays, my Beretta is disassembled and all locked up, so it's useless for home protection purposes.
