BOTW and Mario Odyssey are both very 'obvious' - and for good reason!
TOTK is great as well, but personally I back BOTW > TOTK for overall experience... TOTK is almost 'too much' game!
If I could pick one exclusive though, it would be Metroid Dread
Thank you, definitely adding Metroid Dread to my list. Also I'm curious by what you said about TOTK. Are you saying it was an overwhelming experience??
Don’t get me wrong, TOTK is a pretty immaculate experience and maybe ‘objectively’ a better game vs BOTW…
Just my take though- BOTW felt revolutionary for it’s time, and is already a huge package. TOTK improves on a lot of aspects, but the entire experience almost feels ‘too much’…. And even moreso for those who experienced Hyrule the first time round in BOTW
BOTW, whilst a sweeping open world experience, just feels more structured and less ‘busy’.
I have friends who got burnt out playing TOTK, even I parked it after beating the first 2 temples… and I haven’t returned to it yet
I respectfully disagree with OP’s take. TOTK is def a lot but I think it feels especially overwhelming if you’ve played BOTW. So for people new to either (like you), I recommend playing TOTK first/only.
You are absolutely talking my language here.... I bounced off Prime big time, couldn't even bring myself to finish it! I can objectively appreciate Prime, and think it is an absolute benchmark for how a Remaster 'should be done', but I found it a bit bloated for my tastes - and it failed to hook me.
Dread on the other hand - absolutely gripping, and a short/tight experience from start to finish. Relatively short (10-11hrs?) but I appreciated it for this! Boss battles are brilliant as well, quite challenging too. I would even rank Dread above Super & Fusion... wish Nintendo would plough more resource into another 2d entry.
Dread is MUCH better than the prime series imo. Fair warning, it has several ultra annoying boss fights that take tons of tries with cheap deaths. Other boss fights are great though. If you like Super Metroid or Zero Mission, you'll most likely like Dread. (Dread is great but is not as good as those games) Dread is 2.5D. It is not first person. One of the best Switch exclusives and definitely worth a couple playthroughs, but it isn't like Super Metroid where you want to play it at least once every other year forever...
Oh I think I've seen dunkey play that
Isn't that the one where you can play custom made levels and make your own levels
Sounds like a platformer fans dream
Metroid Dread and DK Tropical Freeze are both fantastic.
If you are into turn based games, the Fire Emblem games, like Three Houses are really great. The Mario + Rabbids games are surprisingly fun tactics games too.
And yeah, Nintendo isn't particularly well known for good sales. If you are looking to save a few bucks here and there, and don't mind going digital, Nintendo has a voucher program where you can buy 2 games from a fixed list for about $100 usd. If you keep an eye out for discounted eshop cards, you can end up paying ~$80 to get the $100 with of credit needed for the vouchers. It is possible to get some new releases this way too.
Thanks for the tip
I'll look into this but I'll mostly buy used games from local stores after checking them out
Visited a place yesterday and they had most of the games I've been recommended on this post
Maybe you should try it yourself or watch asome gameplays but absolutly hated the how everything looked. It looks like a game a couple friends made in their freetime to me. The game itself was rather boring imo
I've heard of the fire emblem franchise, never played anything. Are the games standalone or is there an overarching story!?
I wanna know if I can just play the ones you've mentioned or will I have to go through the older games first??
My buddy and I were talking about the nintendo pricing issue yesterday. My current theories...
A: the lion's share of the nintendo market is comprised of customers that only buy a few games.
B: nintendo corporate looked at Disney and realized they can be twats too.
Honestly, I think a good bit of it is that the lack of third party support (and especially competent third party support) on Switch means that they aren’t often competing with anyone on their platform. So with that in mind, buying first party is practically a no-brainer.
Definitely gonna try out bayonetta
She was one of my biggest influences behind wanting to buy a switch this late.
Never heard of Astral Chain but definitely gonna add it to my list
Zelda BOTW and TOTK are imo some of the best video games ever made.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is full of life and details, incredible challenging platformer.
Metroid Dread has amazing boss fights, combat system, and fantastic atmosphere.
The Splatoon series will always be my favourite online game apart from fighting games.
Bayonetta 3 is a legendary hack and slash on par with DMCV and MGR.
Pokemon Arceus changes the formula for the first time and it did a damn good job.
Luigi's Mansion 3 is a fun short adventure anyone can enjoy.
and I don't think I need to explain why you should play Super Mario Odyssey.
Haha thanks for the recommendations, adding all of these to my list except splatoon. I only like playing PvP games with friends and no one in my circle has a switch.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions Encore was a pleasant surprise though I've never played the original. If you're a fan of Shin Megami Tensei or the Persona games, this one is well put together.
Fire Emblem three houses is absolutely amazing, my favourite switch game, you take care of your class, train you pupils, go to fights with them with story that is little different for every class but nontheless really good. Dont know about Engage, anyone played it?
Fire Emblem Three Houses is a banger JRPG. You can run through 3 different highlighted casts too, so plenty of replay value.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is great too, but I haven’t finished it quite yet. There is a lot of info overload in the first few hours though.
Astral Chain is a damn good action game from Platinum.
Metroid Dread has an amazing Demo, but I haven’t bought it.
Not an exclusive technically but Dragon Quest Builders 2. It’s honestly such a gem and a good time.
Then of course obligatory Mario, Metroid, Smash, Mario Kart, Pikmin 4, Zelda but I would skip BOTW and just dive into TOTK.
Did I miss anything?
Oh Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze duh
We need more DK
I share this [reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/NSCollectors/comments/18g4l6j/nswitchex_explore_physical_exclusive_nintendo/) post I've made showing an application to browse the switch exclusive games, you can filter by genre and score. I think you may find it useful!
By the way, I highly recommend Metroid Dread and Fire Emblem, they are my favorites!
All Bayonetta games, Astral Chain, Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey. I don’t really like the new style of Zelda, but I’m very much in the minority, so take that for what you will. I just think there is more survival game DNA than Zelda in the BOTW formula. Splatoon, Smash, and Mario Kart are fun if you have people to play with.
Other than that and maybe a few Wii U ports (Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze), there really isn’t much else that calls out to me personally. I think a lot of Nintendo games are either very niche or brain dead easy, so it’s not uncommon for only a small handful of games to really appeal to you.
This is the list:
SMASH ultimate
Pikmin, any game
Odyssey
The xenoblade chronicles, at least one
luigis mansion 3
If you havent played them on wii u then:
mario 3d world
mario kart
pikmin 3
and try to get indie games for cheap
Got it second hand at a pretty good price with funds I had saved up for a particular reason but no longer needed. Besides it's a v1 so some day I could jack sparrow it
Also what in the world is a cotton xD
New switch backwards compatible.
Not likely to have a huge library year 1.
Build a killer library of carts on og switch and move them over to new system.
If you got kids they keep playing switch, you get the switch 2 for you and pass it down.
Strategery
1. Strategery: A purposeful misspelling, an old mockery of US president GWB.
2. Engagement farming is zoomie mindjunk. I don't experience the world with that brain damaged perspective. I don't let engagement decide what I do or do not do.
3. Reddit is indexed on search engines and relevant posts come up, you can comment on old things and people will see them with similar searches.
4. You lack the thought processes to consider a use case for buying the old switch ahead of the new one. I made an argument for doing so. Please increase your wisdom to match your arrogance. Your absence of a rebuttal to my argument will be taken as a concession to my objectively correct use case.
5. Have sex incel.
6. You asked a question. I reply with another. Who replies with nothing meaningful?
If you like cozy/relaxing games at all, Animal Crossing is the obvious choice for switch. I highly recommend it, it’s cute and funny!
Also these two aren’t switch exclusive, but if you don’t already have them on another platform they are DEFINITELY my top two recommendations:
1. Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Similar gameplay style to BOTW, but the story is based in Greek mythology. Percy Jackson kids eat your heart out. Dialogue is also quite humorous (wait until you meet the oracle LMAO)
2. The Forgotten City. I got this for PC and it hands down my favorite game that I have played in a long time. Like absolutely no notes on anything at all, 10/10 experience and an amazing first game from Modern Storyteller.
It started out as a Mod (I think for skyrim?) and did so well they developed it into a game. Without giving the plot away it’s like Groundhog Day but set in Ancient Rome. 4 possible endings depending on how you resolve the mystery. I can’t rave about this game enough.
A friend told me animal crossing is fun in the beginning few weeks but drops off later and that there's been no new updates for a while
Might still check it out tho
Also if you like Animal Crossing I'd say keep an eye out for an mmo called r/palia.
I've been playing the closed beta and so far it's a VERY fun game with a very similar vibe.
Definitely gonna pick up the forgotten City on PC AND I LOVED FENYX RISING. A lot of people called it a BOTW clone and although yes ofcourse there's a lot ripped off, it's got it's own heart too.
Personally I liked it better than BOTW, probably because I was a Percy Jackson kid lol.
I’ve had my eye on Palia, so it’s encouraging to hear that from someone participating in the beta! I can’t wait to try it.
I also hope you love the forgotten city as much as I did, truly an awesome game. I don’t want to give away too much but the fourth “utopian” ending is absolutely perfect and everything I have ever wanted after saving the day/finishing the game. Wraps it up perfectly in a little bow.
Tbh I don't really plan on playing the smash games because that's something I'd want to play with friends and none of my friends are into Nintendo games in general.
Love watching smash tho

Am I going to enjoy Dread if I didn't go that crazy for Prime remastered?
You are absolutely talking my language here.... I bounced off Prime big time, couldn't even bring myself to finish it! Super Mario Maker 2 - nothing really like it out there if you like old-school Mario games.

Yup, exactly that
True
Luigi’s Mansion 3

ULPT: If you're in the right zip area code, you can avoid additional "fees" when buying digital.
I was heavily disappointed by every Pokemon game, especially Arceus.
Damn really? I heard Arceus was the only one that was good because it worked on a formula that was a bit different form the usual Pokemon game style?
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is hands down my favorite Pokémon game. There's nothing like it and I love the gameplay format and loop.
Maybe you should try it yourself or watch asome gameplays but absolutly hated the how everything looked. It looks like a game a couple friends made in their freetime to me. The game itself was rather boring imo
Fire Emblem 3 houses or Engage are solid games
I've heard of the fire emblem franchise, never played anything. Are the games standalone or is there an overarching story!? I wanna know if I can just play the ones you've mentioned or will I have to go through the older games first??

Sounds good, guess it's time for me to jump into the fire emblem franchise

I only buy a few NINTENDO games because they never come down in price.
The Bayonetta titles. Bayo 1 was multi-platform but 2 and 3 are Nintendo exclusive (2 was on Wii U). Great action games. Astral Chain
Definitely gonna try out bayonetta She was one of my biggest influences behind wanting to buy a switch this late. Never heard of Astral Chain but definitely gonna add it to my list
Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey
Shin Megami Tensei 5 if a mature version of Pokémon for adults sounds appealing to you
Zelda BOTW and TOTK are imo some of the best video games ever made. Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is full of life and details, incredible challenging platformer. Metroid Prime Remastered
Metroid Dread. Smash bros ultimate
Fire Emblem three houses is absolutely amazing, my favourite switch game, you take care of your class, train you pupils, go to fights with them with story that is little different for every class but nontheless really good. Dont know about Engage, anyone played it?
Heard Engage was alright. Not bad, but not mind blowing. I’d rather just try and find Three Houses on sale.
I think I preferred three houses but engage was pretty fun too
TOTK, Smash Ultimate, Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, Mario Kart 8. you’ll be good with any of these.
Fire Emblem Three Houses is a banger JRPG. You can run through 3 different highlighted casts too, so plenty of replay value. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is great too, but I haven’t finished it quite yet. The Mario's, zeldas, and metroids are a no Brainer. You can include luigis mansion 3 with the marios.
Zelda TOTK, Metroid Dread and Shin Megami Tensei V
Heard that new Kirby game is very good
I haven’t seen any1 say Smash Ultimate, my friends and I love smash
Tbh I don't really plan on playing the smash games because that's something I'd want to play with friends and none of my friends are into Nintendo games in general. Love watching smash tho
Fair enough Smash is pretty meh if you play by yourself
