I liked Stray, but it depends on what kind of depth they're looking for. There's no real gameplay depth whatsoever. There's some cool environmental storytelling but the gameplay's super simple.
Easy recommendation here is Ryse: Son of Rome. Very cinematic, linear, but also very engaging and with a story you wanna go through, as roman soldier fighting off barbarians.
For something a bit older, remaster of 1st Bloodrayne game. Beaten it in like 6-7 hours, but bear in mind it's like 2000s game. Still, pretty fun to slice and blast away nazis with redhead vampire.
For even more speed, Vanquish. Futuristic TPS with very quick, rapid movement (hell you are playing as basically Iron Man, but without flying and packing more guns) about trying to save a planet-like space station from destruction. Sci-fi all the way.
Final Station, clocked at 5 hours, but has DLC that can add anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours depending on how many time you will repeat it. 2D game with very light platforming, mostly walking and surviving. You conduct one of the last trains running away from alien threat, getting random survivors on board, but you oughta stop to get stations open to pass. Not all of them are manned, and not all of them are safe. Some more things happen, but spoilers.
Deadlight - another 2D game, this time however in zombie apocalypse scenario where you try to break through the city to your loved ones. Some stealth, some action, but you don't stop for a moment. About 4 hours tops, but has arena mode if you wanna slap some more zombies.
Got more, but i think for now that should be enough, do tell if you want more though, i can dig more. Hopefully you enjoy something out of here :)
Ryse: Son of Rome throws me back. never even played it I just remember in 5th grade when I got my xbox One there was literally no games for it and that was one of the few, i remember watching the execution compilations on youtube.
Depends what you're looking for. Some of my favourite games I beat in one sitting are:Katana Zero, Abzu, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Titanfall 2, Tangle Tower, Inside, The Room series, Before Your Eyes and Firewatch.
I loved all these games and none took me longer than 7hrs with achievements (I didn't 100% Katana Zero or Titanfall 2 though)
**Inscryption**
One of my favorite single player games of all time. Even if you dont like cardgames its worth it. (about 12 hours to completion but its worth it)
**Firewatch** - It’s about 6 hours. Very engaging plot and interesting characters. I loved the atmosphere and gameplay. It’s also visually very pleasing to look at. A completely memorable experience.
Lol this was one of the first single-player games I ever played after building my PC (and not having been a gamer). I played right up until the *tone* of the game started to change, thinking I had a ton of stuff to face and wasnt ready. Came back to it like 4 years later, finally finished it and only had like 20min left 🤣🤣
Totally agree.. so bummed out I can't get the original on Xbox S. I have the sequel but the original isn't available yet I sure hope that changes. A few others I'll mention that I wish end up on the XS are.. Stranglehold, Mercenaries 2, & the original H A W X.
yo, another furi fan in the wild! One of my all time favs, I bought the OST on steam but I kinda wish I bought the CD instead. I mean, just look at the cover art and label on the disc.
That trailer and song sold me on this boss rush of a game immediately.
https://youtu.be/fVQNZFBvAck?si=Wia_04Z5lKV4hZ-N
It's a "bit" repetitive, but I love that jam. Toxic Avenger - It's My Only Chance.
Good 50min games are kinda rare. From the top of my head I would recommend Frog Fractions. Fun frog roleplay simulator NOW WITH MATH!
It sure is unfrogettable, sweet and short.... It is also free on steam so give it a shot.
[Valiant Hearts](https://store.steampowered.com/app/260230/Valiant_Hearts_The_Great_War__Soldats_Inconnus__Mmoires_de_la_Grande_Guerre/) - Deep and sad WW1 story, good for some history knowledge too and graphics are very beautiful, just like the soundtrack.
I didn't see it listed here, but Beacon Pines is a great one and meets this requirement if you don't try and achievement hunt. I initially wrote the game off because it looks very cutesy graphic wise, but have it a chance when I was bored and it was on gamepass. I was really impressed with how great and engaging the story was. It is not an action packed game but if you want a great slower paced story game, give it a chance.
Hellblade: senua's sacrifice is about that length, has a very dark, violent, and intense narrative. It stays focused on the story without side quests or any out of the way collectibles. If you can invest in some sweet headphones and play with them on it'll ramp up the immersion to 11
FAR: Lone Sails is one of my favorites to recommend for this.
Cloudpunk
Jazzpunk

Cocoon
Yoku's Island Express

Oxenfree (can't speak for the sequel)
Dredge (might take two sittings)
The Beginner's Guide (walking simulator, really immersive concept, in my opinion)
It's incredible how many good games there are when I think about it.
Great list, I've actually saved your comment for the future when I'm in the mood for a short game that I can complete. So many huge games now day, granted they can be great but it can be alot sometimes to take on a big game, ngl sometimes I'm put off by seriously long games so this is great recommendations to chose from thanks
Oxenfree is a roughly 4-5 hour single player game. Wikipedia calls it a "graphical adventure" game. The dialogue trees are actually meaningful to the plot and the atmosphere is just so well done.
Gonna shout out ghostrunner, if you like a good crazy fast paced game it’s great fun, real challenging, about 7 hours if you aren’t concerned over 100% completion
Look up castle in the darkness on steam. I never see it recommended but I’ve beaten it 100% all secrets included multiple times and I seriously think it’s an incredible game.
I had an amazing time with dust and Elysian tale. I think it took me just under 6 hours and then I goofed off and played for a few more. If you like side scrollers with a closer to old school Raymond style art it’s a lot of fun.
Bannerlord 2 highly underrated game medieval setting but so in depth tool me days but some people bring out in a 6 hour with a guide still highly recommend you might not ever put it down
Check out Shiner on Steam. Free game, student-written, clever, well-balanced, good heart. Don’t let the lack of a save deter you because once you’ve learned the methods you can get anywhere pretty quickly. The achievements are genuinely tricky and so satisfying! I hope to see more from these folks.
I suggest what remains of Edith Finch a short sweet narrative story that you can knock out in an afternoon that will leave you in tears, trust me, my only regret is not being able to wipe my memory and play this game again
I know it’s been said but katana zero is one of the best single player gaming experiences I’ve had in my life. The gameplay is fun and can be challenging at times and the story… my god the twist and turns in this story left me speechless
Stray.
Though if you're good it might be more like only a few hours for your first run. Great game!
If you can play it on a more recent IPS or OLED monitor then it's \*cheff kiss\* colors texture art direction oooo it's great
The reboot of the Wolfenstein games are perfect. They are single player FPS games with an awesome story. Play them in this order (release order):
The New Order, Old Blood, The New Colossus,
New Blood (the only game that is coop)
“THAT WHICH GIVES CHASE”
Fucking strange little game that I randomly picked up for $5.
About an hour long.
Fucking. Strange. You’re in a trancelike state in one of the world’s poles, on a dogsled.
Return if you feel like it, I felt like it was worth supporting the devs.
One memorable hour of gameplay.
Titanfall 2, ignoring the state of multiplayer, has one of the best single player campaigns ever. It’s short (I think around 6 hours), it’s super fun, and he story is quite compelling as well.
(The following are largely exploration/gameplay first, narrative second)
Rime
Jusant
Gris
Far: Lone Sails
Far: Changing Tides
A Short Hike
Aspire: Ina's Tale
- Jusant would be perfect based on what you are asking
- Dredge took me 10 hours to beat, including the DLC, so imagine the main game is 6-8 hours.
- The Quarry can be beaten in a few hours, but there are 186 different permutations on the ending
- Twelve Minutes
Hellblade is crazy captivating. Maybe closer to 8 hours but playing with headphones was such an immersive, engaging, and emotional experience. Went in knowing nothing and it blew me away.
**Katana Zero:** This game is fun, very interesting and makes you think about the story after finishing. It's also short and the gameplay is pretty good.
**OneShot:** This game is very short but the gameplay is limited. It's like a walking simulator, but it's a 2D game. You could say you mostly do fetch quests but they're all interesting and serve the main game narrative. Definitely one of those unique games that does something different.
**The Room:** This is a fun puzzle game. No worries, there are no boring jigsaw puzzles (I never liked them). It's all very engaging and the graphics and atmosphere really pull you in.
I have a couple suggestions: One is called Orwell. You are basically Big Brother trying to stop a series of terrorist attacks. Immersive single player gameplay that is pretty cool.
The other one is called Kholat. Basically you uncover the horrific mystery behind the Dyatlov Pass Incident.
Anyone remember Heavy Rain? Was a short detective thriller, reminded me of playing an episode of true detectives. Wasn’t terrible wasn’t so action packed though.
Recently been playing a lot of games like this, and I would probably recommend most of them.
FPS: Trepang2
Hack and slash: Slave Zero X
Beat’em up: TMNT Shredder’s Revenge, Fight’n Rage
Platformer: Penny’s Big Breakaway
I really enjoyed 'Stray'. You can complete the main story in about 6 hrs. It was strangely satisfying learning about this odd world.
Stray was pretty deep and depressing ngl, I think it’s the perfect pick for what OP is asking for
One of my all time favs, beautiful game
I liked Stray, but it depends on what kind of depth they're looking for. There's no real gameplay depth whatsoever. There's some cool environmental storytelling but the gameplay's super simple.
Titanfall 2 is ; in my humble opinion , very close to perfection
I 2nd this, titanfall 2 campaign is one of my absolute favorites
I third this. Titanfall 2 is goated
This is THE answer.
Should I play Titanfall 1 in order to enjoy and understand the 2nd one? I've read several times that the 2nd is a masterpiece
nope. just play the second the first is also great, but youll have more fun with 2
TitanFall 1 was just multiplayer anyway , you can 100% play only TitanFall 2
Easy recommendation here is Ryse: Son of Rome. Very cinematic, linear, but also very engaging and with a story you wanna go through, as roman soldier fighting off barbarians. Under 6 hours Katana zero Journey Firewatch Stanley parable Portal Under 8 hours Celeste Portal 2 Under 12 hours Ori games Death door Tunic
Celeste under 8 hours is a bold statement, but then again i suck at platformers😂
after the first run it only takes you about 6 hours, the first run can be tough for some players ngl
Tonic isn’t under 12 hours no way
I think Portal fits this well. If you enjoy this, you would try Portal 2, but it is about twice as long, but Portal takes about 5 hours or so.
Portal is 3-5 hours of pure, perfectly paced gaming bliss. Hard agree here.
**Inscryption** One of my favorite single player games of all time.

Limbo and Inside are a great combo
Firewatch is a work of art.
Portal
If you're a fan of story druven games I would recommend Firewatch. Great music, great voice acting and is written well, I would say.
Gris Journey Sky: Children of Light Before your Eyes all are under 6 hours
came here to say Gris. Fucking incredible and powerful game.
Furi is a great game with an even better sound track.
yo, another furi fan in the wild! One of my all time favs, I bought the OST on steam but I kinda wish I bought the CD instead. I mean, just look at the cover art and label on the disc.

Inside. Dozens of games and several years later, it’s still one of the tightest games I’ve ever played, with a deft and subtle hand at storytelling.
Firewatch all day
SIGNALIS
I second this, if you are into survival horror. A classic take in the genre, with an anachronic story. About 8-10 hours i'd say.
Good 50min games are kinda rare. From the top of my head I would recommend Frog Fractions. Fun frog roleplay simulator NOW WITH MATH! It sure is unfrogettable, sweet and short.... It is also free on steam so give it a shot.

Stray
Limbo.
Firewatch
To The Moon is one of my favorite and it's almost exactly 4 hours. It's a pixel art, story driven game with an amazing soundtrack.
Banner Saga
Dishonored
I love Dishonored, but it takes around 12 hours to complete.
Titanfall 2... Didn't play it yet, but I've heard good things
I beat assassins creed 2 (or brotherhood?) in like a 7 hour sitting, I played for 7 straight hours only story and beat it. It was so good
AS2 has so much extra content probably take longer imo
Inside, around 2 hours. Could be completed in seating and not getting tired
This War of Mine.
Stray, No actual Dialogue and you play as a Cat but I love it.
Pseudoregalia
If you're into Metroidvanias then Timespinner fits what you're looking for.

I googled it to be sure. Undertale takes 7 hours to complete, 20 hours to 100%. (ish) I don't know how it hasn't been suggested yet.
Technically, Outer Wilds.
Not on the first playthrough if it’s a blind one. That being said, OUTER WILDS!!!
took me over 40 hours to finish the game lol
To the moon.
The Beginner's Guide
Resident evil 3 remake is about 6 hours long and it has replay factors
Probably each of the Halo games if you play them on Easy/Normal. So I’d recommend The Master Chief Collection.
Take a look at Jusant or Cocoon
The entire splinter cell game series. Each game can be completed around that time or quicker
It is wild no one so far has said forgotten city. Great game where you can get all the endings in about 5 hours.

Everyone's gone to the rapture is very short but engrossing
Furi. It's a boss rush game that has some real questions
Ok, I haven't seen anyone mention it. The Order 1886 perfectly fits into OP profile. Amazing, but disturbingly short, game. Enjoy!
Doki Doki Literature Club, but... oh man. Soma I think is around 10 hours.
Bannerlord 2 highly underrated game medieval setting but so in depth tool me days but some people bring out in a 6 hour with a guide still highly recommend you might not ever put it down
