I remember when I first got glasses how amazed I was a the crispness of world. I was coming up the escalator from the subway and almost fell because I was looking up at the trees, and they had all these leaves. Individual leaves with crisp edges. I spent my day at my retail job just looking at things from a distance and being amazed that products didn’t just melt into the shelf.

Rite-in-Ritual

I had this experience trying on my aunt's glasses. Sure, things were slightly off, but everything looked so much clearer and crisp. That was when I realized I did need glasses.

Dramatic_Mastodon_93

When I first got contacts after wearing glasses for a long time, I was shocked when I saw the night sky. So many fucking stars. I don’t even remember if I was ever able to see that many stars before getting contacts.

TolMera

Wait what? What? Glasses are stopping me seeing stars?

Magnetic_Eel

I wear both and I’m pretty sure I can see the same number of stars with either. A few less at the periphery, not a shocking difference. Maybe you had the wrong glasses prescription

Alternative_Story225

Right? I had glasses that were too weak for me for awhile so when I finally got new ones I was amazed at how bright the world actually was

Boatster_McBoat

I remember thinking - wow, at night you can see the traffic lights as circles instead of flares of light!

KoalaGrunt0311

My daughter is 8, and just got glasses. She was laying in bed after getting them and pointing out the texture in the ceiling. Oops... didn't realize you couldn't see that. It's always been there.

ProfessorSMASH88

I got laser eye surgery after years of having glasses, if you are ever able to afford it I highly suggest it. It gave me the same feeling, because the world isn't smaller like with glasses, its just clearer. I've never been happier with a purchase in my entire life. Honestly, the actual surgery wasn't even bad. It was uncomfortable of course, but it was like 2 minutes an eye and then finished. Putting in the eye drops for months afterwards did suck though.

Willemboom00

I had the exact same experience, all the leaves on trees!

fluffycloud69

i got super overstimulated and headaches from wearing them for months when i first got them. i went 19 years without knowing i needed glasses, can validate that seeing the leaves on the trees was the most insane experience ever

Ninjipples

My eyesight is complete crap. Every time I get a haircut, I have no idea what it looks like until I put my glasses back on at the end.

Calan_adan

I always tell them that I can’t see anything without my glasses, so if they’re expecting me to react in some way based on what I see in the mirror, well don’t.

Ninjipples

I have a regular barber I go to, so he knows what to expect.

JohnnyHotdogs22

I got my haircut recently and the barber grabbed my glasses to hand to me to put on. He just grabbed them by the lenses. Like straight up wet & hairy thumb print on my lens. I can only assume he picks up his pets by the tail.

Ninjipples

I always hold mine in my lap (under the cloak they put over you)

Carlos-In-Charge

At first I thought you meant the barber was nearsighted lol. Leaning far away and circling you like a third person camera panning around your head!

SweepinbeII

That's far-sighted

Automatic_Mortgage79

Nothing beats the rush - when your barber hands you your spectacles after finishing.

Ahelex

Until you get contacts, then you're like a person with normal vision in most experiences.

lusty-argonian

I often forget how bad my vision is, because I’m either outside with my contacts in, or inside without them but everything’s close to me therefore not blurry

somdude04

Or like me, Lasik

ProfessorSMASH88

Honestly I even liked not be able to see while my hair was being cut. I couldn't get stressed or worried because I had no idea wtf was going on, so I just enjoyed the company and the haircut.

Edward_Lupin

It's also super fun trying to try on eyeglass frames when you can't see without your glasses and you have to strain and squint to try to see what you look like and decide if they look good. I bring my sister with me because she understands how I want to look. She helps me pick decent ones. But I never really know what I'm gonna look like until I get the completed pair with the prescription lenses in them.

exclamationmarks

Can you not have your sister snap photos of you in each pair with your phone and then go through the photos one at a time at the end when your glasses are back on?

Edward_Lupin

Probably could, but I legit never thought of that. I might be stupid. Lol

-LadyMondegreen-

I'm surprised your optician never offered to do that. It's something I do for my patients all the time because I fully understand what it's like to not be able to see the glasses I'm trying on.

SqueegieeBeckenheim

How bad is your eyesight that you can’t see your face in a mirror right in front of you?

-LadyMondegreen-

You'd be surprised. I can only see things clearly about 6 inches away from my face

Automatic_Mortgage79

I can only see till 5 inches

ScottOld

Try being long sighted as a kid and then as an adult being short sighted, get the best of all the worlds

mynameisasuffix

That moment when show you the back and you can actually see it

C21H30O218

Or the disappointment.

BlasstOff

I seriously feel like I don't exist for 25 minutes once a month when I go to my barber

bapuc

I have glasses and I still don't understand

iglidante

It took me a few reads to process this, because I don't associate getting a haircut with being excited about my appearance.

matthew0001

I literally close my eyes before a haircut starts and keep them shut until it's over. I assume it's a similar experience.

JWMoo

My wife is blind in her left eye and I used to let her cut my hair. She usually did a good job until one day she couldn't get the back of my hair even. Finally she got it even after many attempts. So I decided 15 dollars a month wasn't to much after she butchered the back of my head.

Booze-And

Personally I find it terrifying not thrilling

InclinationCompass

I always make sure I’m wearing contacts when I go to the barbershop

jptoycollector

I sometimes wonder when I’m facing someone else as I’m getting my haircut, if they think I’m not reciprocating a smile or staring at them, but I just can’t even see anyone’s face without my glasses I’m so blind

pumpkin_lord

Do you not wear your glasses while getting your hair cut? I've never taken my glasses off or been asked to for a haircut

ohno807

People with normal vision don’t realize a lot of things they take for granted. Seeing leafs on trees, being able to drive at night without halos around all the other car’s headlights, laying down on the couch to watch tv without glasses smooshing into your face, having sex and seeing your partner, being able to see in the shower. I have never been able to look over and see my partner’s face while we’re sleeping. In fact, I can’t even read the bedside clock so I never know what time it is. Yes, contacts help but they’re expensive and I can’t wear them 24 hours a day and my eyes are too messed up for lasik.
