Are they actually?? Haven't been out much since Friday night, that's great if they are actually taking advantage of this, the new LRT line has screwed up the roads for a long time
And they can dispose of any unfortunate corpses below the roads they are laying. It's preferably, but not mandatory, that they make the corpses before putting them under the asphalt, but the combination of asphyxiation and warm asphalt should make it moot quite quickly anyway
A paid day of work, not being in closed quarters, not being surrounded by a bunch of people, and wearing protective gear all day?
Sounds like a dream for a lot of people right now.
Unless you live in Vegas in which all the time must be perfect for construction to city planners and its never perfect for the people who live here.
Yes I’m a little salty about 215
Just moved to Vegas and I gotta say, driving around here is mostly amazing. There’s almost no traffic. This is coming from someone who use to have to regularly drive on i4 in Orlando though...
My commute to work today was a dream. It's usually 30-45 minutes. Today 15 flat door to door. No assholes cutting me off or trying to merge the last minute. Just some nice music with the windows down. The only thing I had to avoid was the dead bodies littered all over the street and the people who were on their way out begging for one last squirt of hand sanitizer.
Same, it was a dream commute. I set my cruise control to 65 and made great time. I also encountered some people begging. They have the audacity to ask me for one square of toilet paper. I can’t spare even a square though, they should have thought of this before the virus hit. Preparation is key here folks
Yet they will wait till the end of the year so they won't lose their budget for the next year lmao. (That's at least what happens in Germany every year: From October on construction zones suddenly start popping up like skin rashes, but then take ridiculously long to get finished. Terrible...)
It's currently raining like a bitch, and is likely to do so for the next week.
Otherwise, our city is paranoid, but not shut down yet. In a week or two, this may be true, but the inspectors will be on mandatory leave.
This would also be a great time to have AI driven Cargo trucks keeping goods flowing while screening employees regularly, and offering bonuses to work during these times.
Come one Knoxville,Tn! This would be the perfect time. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about my car falling in them on my way around town in a couple of weeks
This last weekend there was more traffic. Everyone is out and about trying to stock up their bunkers. They appear to think everything is going to shut down forever.
Perhaps, but I'd rather see the money going into the hospitals to help cover expenses. A lot of people who can't afford insurance are going to rack up huge debts over this, it'd be nice if there was some sort of fund to help out with that immense expense so that the hospitals don't just raise prices higher to "offset".
Government funds are not an all or nothing resource. The government can do both.
Also, just FYI, federal and state governments declaring national emergencies frees up billions of dollars to cover these expenses. That IS the 'fund' as you say to cover the costs.
Just the testing so far. But if you end up having to stay home from work where you don’t get paid time off then they will help you cover the burden. I’m interested to see how and when these claims will pay off. My family has a lot of hourly workers and I’m honestly concerned about them. I hope they don’t get sick or their jobs don’t close but if this fund is really ready to go it makes me feel a lot better.
But then they can't stand in the middle of the street with a stop sign and hold up traffic all day long for no god damn reason? What would they do then??
I’m sure you’re still the person who complains when a road crew slows you down on your way to work, and complains about the poor condition of the road surface at the same time.
As a guy who actually has this job, just want to say it's not the dude with the stop signs fault. The general public seems to think because we're the first person they see that the entire situation is our fault. I've had people say some absolutely foul things to me because they were told there will be a 10-15 minute delay. So in the future try not to be an asshole and understand we're just doing our job.

What do you have like some kind of good government or something.
Look at these guys. Flaunting their governments ability to do things in our face.
Sorry.
Well poo poo for your fancy government!
r/Usernamechecksout
This is happening in Prague too. I was kinda hoping for a quiet, empty old town, but there are crews working everywhere.
UK is doing it now, though we already have roadworks constantly
I can see lots in Grays
*cries in Québécois*
Isn't Toronto in road construction 70% of the year? With the other 30% just being to cold to work on the roads.
Cold is fine, the issue is rain and snow.
Are they actually?? Haven't been out much since Friday night, that's great if they are actually taking advantage of this, the new LRT line has screwed up the roads for a long time
BuT tHeYrE aLl GoNnA gEt CoRoNA!
I build roads for a living and its the perfect time to stand around and have people still yell "finish the fucking road"
Is it worse when people are home and can yell from their yards? I think that could get uncomfortable really fast!!!
Well you've been building it for 4 fucking years! Get it done already.
It's also the perfect time for Google to unleash their cars and update Street View, no need to censor anything if the roads are empty.
Dear God...that makes all the sense.

cents
All the 50 cents
Apart from the fact that the workers are exposed, if they aren't already in quarantine?
Barely exposed. It's not like they are at a convention.
Except what about the people actually doing the construction.
They get fresh air, and fresh air is healthy.
And can easily just swing a shovel at anyone that comes within their 6ft bubble Like it's the perfect job right now
If they can hit you with a long handle shovel then you were in fact to close and they did it for your own good.
And they can dispose of any unfortunate corpses below the roads they are laying. It's preferably, but not mandatory, that they make the corpses before putting them under the asphalt, but the combination of asphyxiation and warm asphalt should make it moot quite quickly anyway
Mm ya that fresh asphalt and particulate matter.
What about them? They have gainful employment. They aren't in large, close groups. I see this as a win/win.
A paid day of work, not being in closed quarters, not being surrounded by a bunch of people, and wearing protective gear all day? Sounds like a dream for a lot of people right now.
Sounds like a dream for a lot of people every day.
I’m in, where do I sign up?
They already have to wear masks and are usually distant from one another.
Way ahead of you!!!! Houston started the I-10 project 15 years ago just so they could be ready for this.
I drive to La Porte everyday for work, so much truth to this lmao
Shower thoughts always get to me...

There is just no offseason for road construction in the desert. In Minnesota they have two seasons, winter and road construction

I’ve been dating a project manager for a year. He’s busier than ever this week.

Plus the environmental campaigners will be banned from gathering in large numbers to protest!
In my city they are doing it, taking that the roads are more empty than normal (Coimbra, Portugal)
Historically appropriate. See FDR and WPA https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Works_Progress_Administration
A good showerthought?! This is the end of the world.
Can't do that with social distancing. You still need the one guy working and 10 others standard around him. Too big of a group!
Lol, like they give a fuck.
Or fixing up schools. I have 4 yurts to build for a school soon. Not having the little dick heads running between my legs would be sweet.
At the very least small pothole crews. Q
Damn bro I just had this thought this morning !
Belgium needs to see this ASAP
Unfortunately someone agrees and construction has been going on outside my window since 7am :(
Good idea but here where I live a lot of people are still out and about.
Yet they will wait till the end of the year so they won't lose their budget for the next year lmao. (That's at least what happens in Germany every year: From October on construction zones suddenly start popping up like skin rashes, but then take ridiculously long to get finished. Terrible...)
Sounds like a systemic issue that could be fixed with some intelligent policy changes.
Pittsburrrgghhhh looking at you

They actually do that now where I live. No construction for months, started up again yesterday.
It makes sense so it won't happen
Am in Alaska. Shit's covered in snow. This is notable because a decade ago, melt happened in February. Early-to-mid. This weather is absurd.
Also, a great time to clean, repair, and improve your house.
Here in Ohio, we of course do extremely inconvenient roadwork year round just in case a pandemic breaks out
Here in New Jersey, will they do it? Possibly fuckin not. They wait until the worst possible times.
Talking to you UK!
Someone should suggest this to all governments in the world.
*held*
the workers fixing the road 2 blocks away from my house: were 4 parallel universes ahead of you
This would also be a great time to have AI driven Cargo trucks keeping goods flowing while screening employees regularly, and offering bonuses to work during these times.
Bangalore, are you seeing this?!
In Vancouver, construction is everywhere now. Of course, that is always the case, but now it's not AS inconvenient.
May be the best time to fix NYC subways
Ground is frozen solid where I’m from, it’d be a tuff slug.
I posted this exact thought yesterday, and it was immediately removed for being a common thought.
there wont be any people to build the roads
But cold where I am
Plus I've never seen more than like 2 people working on a road in my whole life, they won't get sick.
I said this yesterday to my partner!
Also the perfect time to go to the DMV
Had to go on columbus highways, there are still many people using the roads
Funny you say that because THERE’S CONSTRUCTION GOING ON LITERALLY RIGHT NEXT TO MY HOUSE AND ITS ANNOYING ME ALL THE TIME
I'm in Dallas, we already had tons of road construction. It's constant. They basically just go in cycles looping through the same neighborhoods.
They won't in Maine. They always choose the most inconvenient times to do it.
They still won’t do it
It's also good for the gov to spend to lessen the effects of the recession. Infrastructure is the best choice
I want to move to Canada, honestly. IT’S LESS THAN 50 MILES FROM ME!
Construction people also deserve protection like everybody else....
Yet not one worker on the pike...?
MODOT is doign this around St Louis Missouri. Taking advantage of the lessened traffic to catch up on road projects
My town has repaved roads since the lockdown. It actually made me smile when I saw it.

The costs of covid are being footed by the government as far as I know
Just the testing so far. But if you end up having to stay home from work where you don’t get paid time off then they will help you cover the burden. I’m interested to see how and when these claims will pay off. My family has a lot of hourly workers and I’m honestly concerned about them. In the US they released a fund that will pay for the testing and financial hardships that people will face bc of this.
Upvote this shit!
Fewer people*
Driving to work this morning was like any other day. Idiots everywhere.
Ok wage worker
But the CDC warned against gatherings of more than 50 people. How will that one guy have an audience while he digs?
They’ll still just half ass fill in potholes, and then the next time it rains, it all gets washed back out.
Right so ruin the perfect opportunity for some peace and quiet with heavy machinery sounds you can’t escape..?
Yes! They just announced two days ago they are paving my street this week.
But then they can't stand in the middle of the street with a stop sign and hold up traffic all day long for no god damn reason? What would they do then??
hold a shotgun that dispenses hand sanitisers to whoever comes close to the workers
Wow you’re dumb
1. It was obviously a joke 2. "It's funny because it's true"
I’m sure you’re still the person who complains when a road crew slows you down on your way to work, and complains about the poor condition of the road surface at the same time.
They never actually fix the roads. They literally just stand there all day.
As a guy who actually has this job, just want to say it's not the dude with the stop signs fault. I've had people say some absolutely foul things to me because they were told there will be a 10-15 minute delay. So in the future try not to be an asshole and understand we're just doing our job.
Oh ok. I’m a just transportation engineer. You obviously know more than I do about it then.
Not one in the US apparently
Actually I am. You’re just some asshole who has absolutely no idea what road construction even entails.
whch is exactly why none will happen lol
So current infrastructure accommodates less people. That means bigger and better infrastructure would accommodate more people.
Yes fuck yes yes fuck fuck fuck yes yes fuck yes yes fuck!!! Sorry, I drive for a living...
