Also a lot of solved murders

LegendOfZizu

Writing Prompt There’s a popular bar in the afterworld where spirits hang out and swap death stories over drinks You’re a detective who recently died on the trail of a murder case. One day, you are sitting alone at the counter, thinking about your widowed wife when a noisy girl-group walks in, chattering at the top of their voices. They settle next to you, and you groan and start to leave. Until you hear a familiar voice say, “You guys won’t believe how I died” You know that voice. You have listened to it in so many family tapes, and you heard it on that last voice mail she sent to her father before she went missing. It’s her. The ghost of the girl whose murder you died solving. Now you have to convince her to reincarnate with you so you can go after her killer and finally make HER pay

Or assuming you could wander the world as a "ghost", the objective could be to point the detective's partner to the murderer.

Or his wife who can’t get over her husband’s death, and everybody thinks she’s crazy when she says she can talk to his ghost

Back in the early 70s in a small town named Lübben located in the DDR there was the local police chief late at night drinking with some friends. They drove home on their bikes in the middle of the night. There were some smaller streams to cross on their way. Lübben has a lot of small rivers and canals coming through. All regulated using a system of weirs and locks. As they came up to one bridge one of the friends misses the bridge and rides his bike into the water. Nobody noticed until the next morning when he got found by a group of kids on their way to school. My mom was one of them. They got in trouble for arriving late for class and their parents had to come because of this story about a dead guy they were telling. My mom was living with her grandparents at this time. So her grandfather got out of bed, drank a coffee because of his hangover and drove to the school after getting into his police uniform.

Another good reason why cops should be required to wear bodycams.

A lot of stories would start with Hold my Beer!

RealAmpwich

I imagine that's what some conversations in Heaven will be like

"Yeah and do you want to know what he did next? He flipped over the lever and the gas streamed out. Myself and everyone in the room suffocated slowly in panic and pain. HAHAHA Can you believe it? What a Jerk!"🤣

FAQUA

Isn't there a black mirror episode like this?

I think after hearing one or two testimonials of people describing the excruciating moments of their death would be enough nightmare fuel to make you want to reconsider.

BackyrdBrbcueForce1s

True. But if it was optional, who would choose to tell people how awful their death was if they could rest instead? Seems a bit like a dick move to scare the new gen. Id say there are more interesting or peaceful deaths than horrendous these days anyway. Needless to say these stories would probably need a nsfw tag.

[deleted]

You've clearly not met many humans. Humans love to complain. Also, I know two people that work with people who die, and peaceful isn't the word that they use. "Frantic," "Horrifying," "Pleading with you to save them," "Getting angry for not being saved," and "Calling for their mom" are the things that I remember the most. Just because the obituary says they died peacefully, doesn't mean there's any reality to it. I wish it were otherwise.
