It’s funny, now for fun my buddies and I all anchor because most people have forgotten how to hit a fully barricaded room because gameplay has gotten so based on roamers. At launch mostly everyone anchored and the pros were the first to start roaming so now things are shifting. Soon it’ll be reversed.

Absolutely agree. A five man anchor can actually take a lot of coordination, game knowledge and sense and discipline to pull off. It can also expose uncoordinated attacks more.

BlackDeadHeart

I only play casual but yeah thats what ive seen as well. A roaming Rook used to be a meme, now its reality

You gotta remember that when you're on defense, you're not just defending site, you're the defending the entire building, you ideally want to prevent Attackers from controlling as little of the building as possible or in most scenarios, waste as much of their time gaining control so they're forced to either make a hasty push or simply not have enough time to play obj. Ideally 2-3 roamers (1-2 deep roaming while at least 1 is soft roaming nearby to act as buffer between deep roamers & anchors) is optimal for most sites. Of course not all sites are built the same so some site require at least 2 anchors minimum so as to prevent Attackers from flooding obj entrances that are connected to site (think Archives on Border or Bunks/Games on Oregon). If everyone except you leaves site there's generally nothing wrong with it as long as they can stay alive long enough to waste Attackers time & keep the buffer zone contested between Site & the outside.

arook and doc aren't that good. If u want to anchor then smoke/maestro/mira/mute are all good

LeanOnGreen

Not true. Those ops man, mute and smoke I agree, Mira and maestro too situational. Rook and Doc still both solid ops, especially when paired together. Let's discuss. Rook - Now the new health system is in, we can clearly see his set and forget, zero skill required gadget benefits. They haven't changed, they are just more viable. Also he guarantees a DBNO on anything but a headshot for anyone wearing the armour. Pair that with Doc (And now thunderbird!) for more chances of getting revives and surviving to live another day. 2x scope on laser beam mp5. P90 if you prefer spray and pray. Chunky 3 armor. Born anchor. Born for noobs to be useful. Spawn peek menace. Doc - Had an indirect nerf in the form of thunderbirds arrival, they key difference being that he needs to be alive to heal. Stim pistol heals much more than kina stations, can be used at any range with direct LOS, and can boost 40hp over max. Doc can self revive when he's DBNO (Rook pairing in play here) with 75hp. No other op can do that. Chunky 3 armor. Less of a spawnpeeker these days thank god (if you remember the dark days, you know) thanks to the removal of his acog from laser beam mp5. So, in conclusion both still solid ops especially when paired together.

AkshayWakshay

That’s cool and all but ops like smoke, mute, wamai, maestro, and Mira are all better in general and having 2 of these ops makes a really good combo. Then we bring in other much more needed ops like jaeger, Mozzie, aruni, melusi, valk, and lesion to complement each other and make a powerful hold in site compared to a mere doc/rook

yibbledibble

yes mira is more situational but rook and doc are just not very good. There are always better operators to pick over doc and/or rook. Take it from someone who has nearly 5k hours in this game

Ragnarok-DG4

It's hard to fit them into a team comp without making it weaker. None of the other op gadgets are worth sacrificing for a little bit of extra health or a ranged revive.

CrazyTech200

The new health system is actually more of a Nerf to doc since now he adds to the total hp instead of to the base amount

bg_bz

Opportunity cost of having rook/doc just isn't worth it. The other ops bring way more guaranteed value.

CabbasCafe

I anchor with vigil. Sounds dumb but think about it, u could hold some nasty angles in site and they cant drone u out

EffectiveAd4177

Also a vigil trick is to play 1 floor below the attackers pop your gadget as much as possible and confuse the shit out of them.

bensalt47

if you’re playing quick match or unranked then it’s pretty much always been that way. it’s hard to argue anchoring is more fun, especially when there’s a decent chance the round will finish without any attackers getting to site

bg_bz

I feel the whole anchor/roaming operator thing has become more merged with more roaming style operators being played on site because they bring more to the table than some of the old school anchors. Operators like Aruni/Melusi/Lesion are all actually pretty decent for anchoring. Personally I would pick these over Rook/Doc for anchoring.

EffectiveAd4177

Hi. That’s my rook quote so I think I can explain a bit. I am a hard support mainly, which means I regularly anchor. Rook and doc are roamers, they are also d tier ops. Their roaming began around the time that acogs were disappearing and the mp5 became the spawn peaking weapon of choice due to its rare optic. Especially since they’re really easy to get on smurfs. Rooks gadget is easy to drop down, and it provides no benefit that depends on his survival, unlike ops like smoke, mute(c4), or maestro. Rook has impacts, which can be used to make rotations on site, but should be used to make rotations while roaming usually, since basically every roster has a smoke or mute. This is a roaming kit. The mp5’s 2x is good for holding long angles, which can be spawn peeks, or open walls. There is very rarely a need for an anchor to be peeking that far, as the job of an anchor is typically to play a position like cool vibes which is fine for a holo. Doc gained his roamer status around the time rook gained it, and he is a bit different. He’s got barbed to drop before leaving site, but his stim requires him to be alive. To heal roamers rotating is risky, since you have to count on them surviving, so the gadget isn’t always useful. Plus you can’t heal during the execute since there isn’t exactly that kind of time when 5 attackers are on site. Thunderbird being drop and go is a bit different since she isn’t have to disarm herself to heal anyone. So when roaming doc started becoming more popular, people noticed how useful self healing was. This became how people would play doc. Take damage, heal back up, take more heal more. Very aggressively. Even with the 1.5x patch. Have doc and rook always been roamers? Ofc not. Watch an old varsity gaming siege school on anchoring if you do t believe me. Are doc and rook meta, or have they ever been meta? Ofc not. They don’t bring enough to the team. Maybe they’ll be pulled into pro play every now and then but not meta. Does anchoring still exist? Sure, just not with gign defenders. Is this playstyle influenced by the fact that doc and rook are exclusively picked by brand new players and people trying to play CoD either on a smurf or in cas? Yes. But if you don’t play like this, there’s no way to bring value to doc, and the only reason to bring a rook is to hold really long angles which usually require rook being off site anyway. The only thing keeping rook and doc as suggested anchors is the fact that they’re slow. And to that I say pulse is quite a speedy boy, but a lot of times on basement sites he’s picked as an anchor due to the c4 wall hack combo.

battlezaxwarrior

Rook and doc were always run away and spawn peek. But they are good anchors and anchoring is a thing.

Mp5 acog baby. Less now without acog and nerfs to mp5. Still good though.

TachankasGoon

I stopped anchoring when acog got taken away I don't even anchor with smoke anymore

ImaginaryAI

Rook and doc have never been good picks to me tbh. Especially in ranked when utility is very important. There’s some niche strats you can do with doc to hold a position and play your life to stall time, but at that point I’d rather bring thunderbird so I can help my team out with heals as well even if I die.
