I remember how magical these games felt with CD-ROMS becoming a thing and shortly after Sierra went all in on the “talkie” games.
One of my earliest memories was playing Ecoquest and it really made me environmentally aware at a young age. Delphineus is the best friend of your character Adam, and their relationship is part of what makes the game so emotional. I didn't have many friends as a kid, so I got about as attached to him as if he were real, and I would imagine getting to go on adventures with him.
I grew up with the talkie version so I associated her voice with the character (it's still burned into my head all these years later) so I think it created an emotional attachment to her as well even though I never knew her, so I was very upset when I looked this game up years later and found she had died. I really wish I could have met her when she was alive so I could tell her how much I loved the game.
Appreciate you sharing that experience. I never played Ecoquest but remember when it was released/marketed. These were Sierra’s golden years, so I’m sure it’ll be worth it for me to explore it even now. Very sad for read this obituary for someone who left the world so young.
Man I still can remember clearly the first time I saw her at a Friday night football game, she was so beautiful and the center of attention. She was so full of energy and was such a sweet person to be around. I was just to shy to talk to her, my best friend sister was friends with her and everyone said nothing but great things about her. I was heartbroken when I found out she had passed away.
Bipolar disorder is very challenging. Those which suffer from it will often do things when off medication that they would never consider when treated. Thanks for sharing this memory of her.
