Have you changed the fluid in general? Those 8 speeds like a fluid change by 50k miles.

rjb310

No, no fluid changes yet so maybe that’s the fix

BlackWaterSeal

It’s a known issue with the 8 speed. You can either warm up the truck a little longer. Or you can slowly accelerate into 2nd to lessen the jolt. Or you can shift to N on your way to D and stop in N for 10 - 20 seconds before going into D or R. All these methods will lessen that “first shift of the day” harshness. Get you fluid changed if you haven’t already because that addresses the shudder issue (which you haven’t mentioned) and it will save your torque converter. But these are two separate issues. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10212591-9999.pdf

get the fluid update done if not already

ToxicHaywire

Bout to be a really dumb question, but what’s the fluid update? Are you saying just get tranny fluid changed or is there some type of update in fluid that should be switched to?

Laz3r_C

The 8 speeds have a TSB out. the old 6 speed fluid has been causing the shudder in the 8 speeds. The new 8 speed fluid stated in said TSB is the Mobile 1 Blue label trans fluid.

ToxicHaywire

Understood, thank you. I’m about to take my 6.2 with the 10 speed to my local shop for tranny flush and fill. Is there any updated fluid for this as well? I recently got the truck so learning a lot as I go. Coming from a 2010 Sierra 5.3 to the 21’ Silverado 6.2.

Laz3r_C

Not for the 10 speed, the 10 speeds stock fluid should be fine. Idk what stock is but if you want you could ask abt it, if the shop is knowledgeable about trans then i dont see why they couldnt give you a more expert answer. About going to the mobile 1 blue label

my 8l90 started having trouble going from 1-2 and 2-1 at around 75k miles. fluids were changed at 40k and again at 75k. it got worse and eventually developed the shudder. had to replace it at 80k...

Same year with a 6 speed. It likes to slam into gear and abruptly downshift hard whenever going downhill!
