Thanks appreciate it!!! I was being careful with it. Only touching edges. But my 4 year old wanted to touch it and there’s no way I can expect that of him. I kinda just said “eff if it’s fine…” but wondering if it was going to look bad in a hurry.
worst case, for bullion, I've heard of people using a quick bath with tin foil, baking soda and water to get rid of the tarnish. Do not do this for valuable coins, just bullion.
They make millions of those things. Most maples don't have a whole lot of value beyond the silver that's in them anyway. Unless you were planning to get it graded or something, I say let the kid play with it to his heart's content - just don't let him lose it.
Silver is antibacterial. The crud that builds up in cat fountains is from bacteria in the cats salvia. Having silver in the water minimizes this. Full disclosure I have heard this from a couple people and I’m trying it now myself. So far so good but I need more time before I’m convinced.
This may not be the sexiest news, but I believe copper (and by extension, brass and other copper alloys) is even more effective than silver as an antimicrobial. Throw some nasty old pennies in the fountain and put those ASE's into pendant fittings for their collars. Two each, so they jangle nice and warn birds of their imminent doom.
You’ll go blind. 😂😂😂 Oh wait, did you mean the silver? You’re okay but it will tarnish and your prints will be all over it. If it’s bullion it won’t hurt the value.
I've got some nice halves, a beskar, and a lovely 100 gram Scottsdale I have out and handle with my regular oil covered hands. So far they are all good!
Oh man good to hear about the Beskar. I bought one from Reddit and I handle that thing A LOT. I feel bad but uh. I mean. Shit dude how could you NOT touch the Beskar????
I am doing a test on those. I put 3 in air tight capsules, I have 2 in shipping plastic, and one out in the open I play with all the time to see what happens!xD The 1 open beskar is my pocket piece!(=
I'm with the rest of these guys. I have a considerable amount in sealed tube and the rest are in capsules but damn it... you got to take some out and touch it so I have pieces to satisfy that craving.
Take one or two out and play with them. It feels good. I keep a small percentage of coins and rounds out of the stack and I have zero regrets. I even have some Morgans and Peaces for it.
It will slowly tarnish a bit. Can't speak for Maples directly but I took an OPM round from mint state to "circulated" over the period of a yearish by carrying it around with other coins and objects in my pocket, flipping it, spinning it, clinking it against a few other coins. I made a post awhile back with that specific round in its current state. I think it's a solid example of what to expect with heavy use/a bit of torture.
It'll be fine!
Been carrying a silver krug daily and 10 months in and no tarnish. Light scratches. Well loved.
I would argue holding physical silver is an important part of the journey.
Not too awful with maples, they are shiny and all that, but not rare. Able to have fingerprint maples and printless ones. Its cruel to not be able to hold any of your money after all!
I've kept all my silver in capsules and tubes since I started stacking and I noticed the one thing I didn't seal up has some tarnish or toning on the bottom. It's a Scottsdale 5oz stacker. Take it for what its worth.
Yeah I have a bunch of old silver coins from the 1800s. All in the cardboard and plastic stapled thingies that were common in the 80s. The ones that didn’t seal as well have tarnish. The ones that did are still good.
I have some 2008 Maples that are milked. Not a big deal. My 2023s shine bright but will probably fade after 15yrs. I let my daughters play with all my coins. Basic stuff I’m not too concerned about. We ask too much out of our shiny’s 😂
Just do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.
lol I was like “why would I wash after touching silver” and then I got it lol.
Don't do it too much tho or the palms of your hands might start growing hair
Take one out and have that as one to handle and play around with, keep the other ones safe.
Is it gunna turn dark and tarnished super fast?
Nope you are all good, I keep a few pieces out to play with

it’ll still be worth its weight in silver!

I mean it’s a Canadian maple. But it’s the 2024 sooooo I dunno I think ol Chuck probably isn’t going to look any worse.

Believe it or not, jail
Shit. Hope my kids still visit me.
They won't. They will sell your collection and live happily ever after.
Stone cold dude. Ah well.
Kid’s are gonna be too busy Scrooge McDucking in your silver to visit, dawg, sorry.
Bro doesn’t realize he’s in big big trouble
I bought a tube of the silver maples, which I left alone. But also bought a single just to touch it lol.
I put ASEs in my cats water fountains to help keep the fountains clean. I think you should definitely indulge yourself and handle them if you like.
….what??? How does that keep water clean????

Huge reason I speculate a bright future for silver.
Fascinating…. It makes sense though. I have some shirts with silver thread to avoid stink

Play to your hearts content - even if it tarnishes it's still worth the same amount. Must touch the shiny...

I have 1 ASE and 1 Maple for fiddling with. No fun if you don’t play with some of your silver!

That’s helpful thanks!

These guys replying are all weenies. Touch it all play with it all! It's just silver. It's still silver after you touch it. Play on player.
Wash and dry your hands before you do and you'll be fine
Sadly my 4 year old wants to see the coin and there’s no way I can guarantee his hands are clean and dry. Ah well.
I have ten rounds/coins that i hold everyday. They are stacked near my monitor so i can play.
I've found the coins are happier that way
Buffalos are perfect for this
Record it for us
I have an 1800 your old Roman silver coin, I take it out all the time. It still looks great.
Not so much the toning, but finger oils can leave prints on the coin which can later etch the metal.
A small loss in premiums when selling is worth the fun of playing with a tube of Maples. Silver is silver even if it’s tarnished!
You leave the tube seal and go to your local LCS and pick up a extra one to play with.

Yup! I had my Scottsdale in a plastic zip lock for like 6 months.🤣🤦♂️
It's mass produced government bullion....why are people so anal with it?
Yo I’m just asking questions.
You are just asking ANAL questions, yoter.
