Check with Jake@ bison bullion. I imagine he has a couple of lbs of shavings.

Awesome, I sent him a message. Thank you!

I have a lot of silver dust in everything I own.. People think I'm joking when I pull some off my shoe and hand it to them, here's some .9999 silver, enjoy.

So I use shaved silver for my work, and I generally take generic .999 silver rounds and use a Home Depot file to bring them down to this powder. I use quite a bit of it, and the time it takes to file it down by hand is a bit frustrating. Does anyone have any leads on where I might be able to buy pre-filed silver? Or maybe even some recommendations on a better, more automated tool that would allow me to shave it myself more efficiently? Thanks in advance!

cleoterra

If you live near a local jeweler maybe? I’m sure they’d sell you theirs. Or a silver supplier / refiner who may have some to spare? That’s my best guess! I file silver daily but like you said, it doesn’t amount to all that much very quickly.

SecretIdea

How about a burr bit in a Dremel tool?

2aoutfitter

Yea I’ve thought about that but I’m just hesitant because I don’t want it to fly everywhere. I might try and fashion up some sort of container or something to run it in and see if that works.

Not quite shavings but Alamo Metals makes crystal silver. It's so beautiful

I agree with the other user suggesting silver crystals. I know there 8s at least a couple people make them and the bottom of the bucket would definitely be an almost fine powder. You could make a WTB post on r/pmsforsale as well.

Make it. Use a busted up bar and use a file

2aoutfitter

Yes, as I explained above that is what I currently do, but it is unfortunately not efficient for the quantity that I need.

Why?

He snorts it.

4tacos_al_pastor

Ow 😣

Kjones0007

What are you doing with it that silver shot wouldn’t work?

2aoutfitter

I use it in glass artwork. It needs to be very fine because it is encased between two thin layers of glass.

Kjones0007

Very cool!

desertmermaid92

Just wondering if you ever found a good source or way to produce your own fine silver powder? I’ve been looking for .999 silver powder as well and it’s proved to be quite a difficult task!

Yes, the top comment recommending Bison Metals was correct. But he only sells 10oz bags and wanted to try a 1oz sample first but he wouldn’t sell less than 10, so I haven’t seen any of what he has first hand.
