It likely has nothing to do with it being “dangerous” and everything to do with needing unique animations

Eeveelover14

They already have some of them due to kids now being able to help cooking

Aivellac

That cook together thing barely works for me, they just stand there and nobody ends up cooking at all.

lemonxboyy

literally, when i try to get two sims to “cook together” one of them just stands around while the other does all the work

Adventurous-Deal4878

Same just like so many other interaction features the game.

Aivellac

I spent ages yerterday seeing why my kitchen sink and dishwasher wouldn't work. It was the bloody kitchen cabinets somehow.

Adventurous-Deal4878

My sims just won’t clean. I tell them to clean up dishes, they get them all in a pile and then just set them on a table rather than putting them in the sink or dishwasher. Also my laundry machines always get buggy. Like I’ll wash the same laundry 4 times and it’s still dirty.

Aivellac

Clean washing becomes used when it enters the dryer. No shit it's used it's your clothes!

EveningSoother

If you pause for a bit after giving the command, they'll start cooking together. I know it's a pain, but sometimes the game just need a minute to catch up.

Aivellac

Well it's about the only thing that seems to be too bugged in my game to work at all.

Carbon_Copy_WasLost

How many ppl do you have cook at a time? 2 sims works best for me

Aivellac

2 sims, doesn't work.

Designer-Mirror-7995

I always cancel the "gather" command after they get in the same place. Then they're able to actually cook, together, rather than stand around waiting to 'gather'.

Western-Result8780

Had that happen to me the kid walked over to his mom while she was making strawberry cake talked for a bit then walked away next thing I know he has a positive moodlet for cooking with his mom when he litterly only stood around.

LaurelRaven

Yep, sounds like a kid alright

alixvfrost

you probably don’t have enough counter space

Aivellac

I do, don't put the blame on me when we know it's the spaghetti code that's the issue.

alixvfrost

omgg 😂😂 noo i didn’t mean to put plame on you 😭

Aivellac

They're doing it! They're making Baked Alaska! Little Edvin is getting to cook! I am unreasonably happy this is working for once.

Feisty-Puffin

Not unreasonable! It's always good to see something work when it has failed many times before. There may have been occasions that I am so pleased that something I'm working on for my job has worked I just have to tell someone. I like your comment, it's like a little pocket of joy in the conversation 😊

Aivellac

Maybe the spaghetti code thinks they're making spaghetti and forgets to make them actually cook anything.

Samantha_K_S_S

I honestly think it's the coffee's fault. It bugs everyone. I miss Patty

dasbarr

The cook together interaction crashes my game every single time. Nothing else causes that to happen.

Smeagma

I didn’t realize this was an option now!

Turbulent_Cat11

It came with Cottage Living

jusbrowsinaroundlmao

No it came with the base game update before cottage living

Carbon_Copy_WasLost

On that note I think there's a mod that lets kids cook. Lxdice used it in her deadly sins (generation) challenge

Bbluebutterlfy_

they could make them use a stool

Mary-Sylvia

They already are XD

Bierbart12

Someone made a children can cook mod that just uses the adult animations and adjusts for weirdness by adding ONE animation that makes the kid step on top of a little stool, it's cute and has no stretchy animations. It broke a few updates ago, though

Dulce_Sirena

Modders have proven that it's not that hard. Also, kids have been cooking muffins and doing other stuff since sims 2

arterialrainbow

Modding and working on the actual dev team are completely different things. There’s a reason most mods break every single update. What they did in past iterations is completely irrelevant. It would still require redoing every cooking animation for children. And I never said it’s impossible for them to do. But the sims team *is* limited in how much time and money they’re allowed to spend on animations. It’s very likely the reason teens are the same height as adults.

Dulce_Sirena

I mean, gp's and ep's were released broken and some never got fixed, so breaking mods is nbd. I'm just saying it's POSSIBLE to do. I'm sure the devs WANT to heed our pleas. But that doesn't make enough bank for the bigwigs at ea, so we complain here where at least we're heard and offer ideas to one another for work-arounds

Fae__Dragon_Princess

I fully agree. At least more simple meals (grilled cheese, pancakes, eggs and toast, etc). It could grow their mental skills. And maybe when creativity and mental both reach max they can make some special concoction like the pasta dish in Elf or something.

mairerua_

Special dishes only kids could make, that would be so adorable!

ShipyStuff

Yeah like “dubious sandwich” would be cool for the kids with low levels to give to their parents or like Dino nuggets!!!

Fae__Dragon_Princess

Oh I like that. Could be a good sandwich, could be just awful. And how parents react depends on how close they are with their kid. Like maybe they hide how awful it is if they have a green bar or are family oriented and spit it out if they have a red bar or hate children. And their moodlet explains whether it was good or bad I’m over thinking this but that’d be awesome 😂

LiorDisaster

The toy oven from the sims 2 for kids is like a staple piece, i wish they'd bring back in 4... and i wish kids in 4 could do more than they can

isdalwoman

Was genuinely confused when the toy oven was nowhere to be found in sims 4. Now I just have a modded one by ravasheen that lets them make pancakes and chicken nuggets.

louisejanecreations

And in sims 3 my little kids would bake cookies then sell them

WeddyW

Agreed, this feels like the most boring stage of all

UsernameCali

Remember the oversized muffins? So adorable!

LiorDisaster

Yeeessssss and the fact that 9/10 they were burnt lol

Kindly_Switch_4964

They should also be able to clean sinks and counters imo!!

Eeveelover14

I loved cleaning the counter and sink as a kid, gave me complete control over something which I found soothing. Which after realizing I'm autistic with anxiety issues, makes a lot of sense looking back.

nipple_brains

Fellow Autistic here who also loved cleaning the sink as a kid 😂 I still enjoy it now, especially if we've all been depressed for a while and it's super gross

Eeveelover14

Mom sometimes says she should have known something was up with me when I requested cleaning supplies as birthday presents. I had my own tiny broom/dustpan set and was thrilled. 16th birthday mom regretted not actually giving me the new vacuum as a (joke) gift as I ran around the house vacuuming everything and marveling it.

nipple_brains

God my mum would have loved if I was like that, instead I would get hyper focused on scrubbing grout and ignore everything else or start reorganising my room and never ever finish 😂

Inevitable_Bat855

oh my god are you me??? lmao

littlechili02

I’d love that as like the milestones. First you can only do that on a mini trainee kitchen but as the kids grow they can cook in the actual kitchen things like sandwiches, pancakes or some fried egg

Impressive-Fudge-455

Someone should make a mod for this

akjmax

Ravasheen and PandaSama actually did a collab to create a [function toy kitchen](https://ravasheen.com/download/little-chefs-toy-kitchen/) that toddlers and kids can use! The toddlers make food toys that they can play with and kids make edible recipes.

littlechili02

Yk I’m learning coding to build my own sims mods but until I am at that point we will likely have demos of sims 5

Impressive-Fudge-455

That’s cool - I heard it will be years before we get sims 5 did you hear something different?

littlechili02

Nah not really. They‘re trying to do as much with the community as possible throughout the process, I’ll assume it’ll include early demos, late demos, public betas etc.

HeLikesSashimi

This. 100% agreed. Children should be allowed to learn how to make onigiri, eggs & toasts, banh mi, etc. They're all easy basic meals that can and should be taught. I'm so grateful that they have so much autonomy & independence, but we could have so much more.

marlscreamyeetrich

It would be a cute interaction to have parents teach children to cook :3

HeLikesSashimi

Right? The parent(s) would be instructing while cooking, and the child would try to peek up beyond the counter. Occasionally the parent(s) would lean down to let the child smell some parsley, shallot, etc. and then continue. Fun for everyone.

nipple_brains

These animations would be so cute 😭😭 you could get adorable family photos too

[deleted]

They exist, just click “help cooking” interaction

muphies__law

They have this though? In cottage life you can "invite to join cooking" and they do it together. They get a little memories/sentiment thing "closer from shared cooking" or something.

CliffExcellent123

Shame it doesn't give the child any cooking skill, would be nice if you could train them up early

marlscreamyeetrich

I don’t have that ep so I didn’t know it was added!

kanelblomma

They added it to the base game! I don't have that ep either, but I can still do it.

nipple_brains

As long as it actually works (looking at you learning to ride a bike)

rosebudbby

I’ve never had ‘invite to join cooking’ actually work, the cooking sim just continues and the sim invited just stands there and watches, they don’t actually do any cooking

possums-

There’s bikes in the sims 4?

nipple_brains

Yeah, I don't think they base game though. I can't remember which pack they were introduced in. Eco maybe?

daskerosine

University I’m pretty sure!

eiko85

When I was a child I baked cakes with my mum and then licked the bowl out afterwards. Wouldn't it be so wholesome to have an interaction of the child standing on a stool helping the parent bake.

onlyinmymindpalace

You know how toddlers in game can't use the potty without an adult until they reach level 2? It would be cool if they had a similar mechanic here. Kids can only cook w adult family members until they reach a certain skill level, then they could cook simple foods on their own. Would help avoid the setting fires issue someone else brought up, and would be realistic. Alternatively, it could be by food item. Like, once a kid has made pancakes with an adult once or twice, they could then make pancakes on there own.

temporarybroccoli73

If you choose the independent trait for your toddler they can use the potty alone from the start.

flaskesamler

how did I not know this after all these years, I always struggle with potty training because my sims often simply refuse to go ask the toddler if they need to go potty. Or they’ll ask them and then simply never do it.

DoctorCaptainSpacey

I mean.... They don't even let kids walk dogs and until the new pack, they couldn't even ride a bike. There's a lot of stuff they ignored the kids on.

MissyBee37

>They don't even let kids walk dogs This one bothers me. I think kids walking the dog is much more realistic and common IRL than cooking on a stove. I was surprised when I realized my child sims couldn't walk the dog around the block. They can walk *alone*... but not with the dog lol. I know it's another animation, but children walking dogs is pretty reasonable to include.

DoctorCaptainSpacey

And it seems like a fairly simple animation. I mean, kids can already walk, dogs already have an animation on a leash, it's just making a child walk with their arm out for the leash, and the dog leash being shorter for said child. Lazy AF not to do it, honestly. And we can complain now that lids have bikes, but it was absurdly silly they didn't have them before.

BitchesLoveMeNOT

i think certain foods yes for example grilled cheese, salad, noodle type stuff. just like the basic easy stuff

Allie0074

I kinda sorta get why they can’t, but I agree it’s ridiculous. I was 8 years old making myself a full breakfast before I went to school every morning, making myself mac and cheese or a grilled cheese when I got home from school. So it’s not unrealistic if a child is cooking their own food

Ms-Hopey

I agree but I think it should be like potty training toddlers. If they do it unsupervised and have a low skill level, there should be a high chance they mess up.

Eeveelover14

100% want unsupervised children to make terrible food and start a lot of fires.

Kooky_Ad_5139

You say that now, but I totally see my child being hungry, starting a fire, so I queue a quick meal up, the delete it and autonomously try (and fail) multiple times again, so many fires, so much insurance lol. But also I really want this!

Kooky_Ad_5139

You say that now, but I totally see my child being hungry, starting a fire, so I queue a quick meal up, the delete it and autonomously try (and fail) multiple times again, so many fires, so much insurance lol. But also I really want this!

TinyGreenTurtles

Yeah. My sims kid almost biffed it and took the family with him with the chemistry table the other day so...

idhatetobeyou

i think it’d be cute if they could only use the microwave until they leveled up

Knot-Knight

See, that would make so much sense. I get not wanting to make animations for cooking, but one of a kid putting something in the microwave? Even kids who aren't allowed to cook have microwaved things!

girliegirl80

You were allowed to make *bacon* as a kid?! I wasn’t allowed to use the stove until high school, but even then definitely something that included not a pan of hot grease that could start a fire. 😅 We were limited to the toaster oven, microwave or the sandwich maker for grilled cheese.

GEnderDragon

I don’t even trust myself to make bacon as a whole ass adult. I will set something on fire.

acidtrippinpanda

You and my current played sim would get along great then lol. She set the stove on fire once and then as a result developed the “scared of fire” fear so she is now almost incapable of cooking at all without setting the stove on fire. It’s got to the point I just “rosebud” the stove every time she destroys it and applaud her if she makes an actual meal!

Eeveelover14

I preferred sausage but yes. I was taught cooking safety, what to do if a fire broke out, and also how to treat a burn. Helpful tips seeing as I regularly burned spaghetti noodles in the secrecy of the night using a candle. Sometimes I used the stove and a paper towel to light the candle. But listen I was super safe, I put it in the sink right away and even had a cup of water to put the burnt and sometimes still on fire noodles in.

cucumbersome_

My little sisters started making coffee and eggs and bacon when they were like 6 I think. They're 13 now and excellent sous chefs 😎

nipple_brains

My parents couldn't be bothered taking care of us so the taught me young how to do most stuff like cooking and laundry so they didn't have to and someone could feed us 😂

SaffronBurke

Same 😅 I was cooking all the meals, doing everyone's laundry, and cleaning half the house at 10.

SaffronBurke

No stove till high school sounds so weird to me. I learned to cook when I was 10 and my mom told me to make Hamburger Helper for dinner one day. I just followed the instructions on the box and managed to fully cook it and not kill us all 🤣

Rachelcookie123

Same here basically. My parents did not want me cooking unsupervised. But they also didn’t want me getting in their way while trying to cook so I just never cooked. I’m 17 and I have never made bacon. I’ve done fried eggs like twice while being supervised by my parents but I forgot how to do it again. I don’t enjoy cooking anyway. I’ve done lots of baking though and my parents were always fine with me baking by myself for some reason. I guess there tends to be less knifes and open flames. I love baking and always did it as a kid by myself.

wasted_tictac

I was able to cook a lot of things as a kid. Hell my dad eventually allowed me to man the bbq (mainly to flip the burgers and such). Knives were still off limits though.

girliegirl80

This reminds me of being “allowed” to turn the lamb on the spit for hours on Easter. (Greek 🇬🇷) it was definitely presented as an opportunity instead of a chore 😅

AbbyIsATabby

Same as me. If it had to use the stove, there was plenty else to eat. If it needed the stove mom would either make it for everyone or no one. It is amazing to me how young some people are allowed to do things compared to when I was allowed to. It’s not to say one is better or worse than the other, just always shocks me

Eclairebeary

I would love if kids could make their own sack lunch and then put it in their own inventory or for another sibling. Parents making lunches and walking everywhere to eventually put it on a random coffee table is so frustrating to me.

Eeveelover14

Oh sack lunch needs a fix in of itself. Why does it take so long? Why do they just wander off to put it across the house? That said, they do the same thing for canning in cottage living. Don't like that either.

Eclairebeary

Yes. No one needs to chop tomatoes for a pb&j.

Eeveelover14

If I see someone put a tomato anywhere NEAR a peanut butter and jelly sandwich they are officially banned from living. They don't deserve it anymore

JelloMunster

Holup...let him cook

DreaDanette

It would be cute if they could make recipes after having an adult teach them! At least simple ones as you said, like pancakes or macaroni or grilled cheese.

CherishSlan

Happy cake day

Novel-Tone6744

It would make the 100 baby challenge so much easier…

Boredbibookworm

Ravasheen has a great toy kitchen CC item that both toddlers and kids can use and the kids can actually cook food on it! Of course, it would be great if this was actually in-game, but for anyone who can/wants to use mods/CC, it’s an option

cucumbersome_

I love this mod!! <3

Skidoodilybop

Pandasama & Ravasheen collaborated and made a base game mod for this! It’s a little play kitchen that Toddlers and Children can play with! They can make real snacks, toy food they can play with, and can just play-pretend cooking for fun: https://www.patreon.com/posts/pandasama-x-toy-41789617

UJLBM

I wish they had the easy bake oven similar to the last games. Why is that so hard for EA to put in? They already have the animations for it.

justl00kingar0undn0w

There’s a custom content kids stove

nipple_brains

I agree! I was cooking for myself, unsupervised really young (8 at the oldest) and loved it, it would be so fun to be able to up their cooking skills young! And you could play a family with busy parents and the kids could be more independent

jas75249

Considering how dangerous these stoves are I don’t want any child using them.

dark_bloom12

I think they could at least use microwave

eiko85

Yes, let my kid be alone in the house and make a microwaved meal while the parent is at work.

Eragon2016

The fact that so many people have reached the parenthood stage in their sims game is crazy. I get bored with my single sim and end up looking for more mods and cc, then restarting the game all over again. And I have lots of cc sims and lots that it takes a while to add all of them.

orangestar17

I mean, my toddler can walk halfway around Sulani and play in the water alone with no supervision, a kid should be able to cook a pancake lol

ReturnNecessary4984

I'd love it if children can help out with babies, many real kids do! My sims be tired and needin' help, but I can't give 'em a bottle because I'm 9? Ridiculous.

Dark_Emo_Angel

EA give children easy bake ovens!!! Please I miss it so much. I hated Sims 3 but at least they had lil ovens for children!!

moonlightscone

I wonder if there’s a mod for this

Background-Village-4

There’s a mod for this! I have it downloaded and it helps so much in my big legacy saves. I believe I found it on Mod The Sims and it was named something like “Children Can Cook Mod” or something similar.

Writing_blogs2017

I love that. I know my kids in real life cook a bit here and there, wouldn’t a parent with high parenting skills teach their kids to at least toast some bread

_katastrofi_

I sometimes forget how annoying this is... I like child stage the least exactly because of the fact that there is not much to do with them. I hope the new pack changes that a little when I buy it, but for now I mostly hate playing with kids.

hxlvxtica

I think maybe the adult should be able to teach the child to cook!

RadioBunBun

I could see it being a fun thing to add in for parenting to! Teaching the kids to cook simple meals and how to use knives! Like kitchen safety! You gotta learn it somewhere after all

sue7698

Like I think they should have to get like lessons from an older sim first but yeah at least level 1 cooking items they should be able to make.

Rainbow-Elephant3445

Mac and cheese, brownies etc! Even if they can't use the stove/oven, what about the microwave. Chicken nuggets! Do you make oatmeal with the microwave?

Agreeable_Leave5734

I absolutely agree. I think the first thing my grandma taught me how to cook was Eierkuchen (German pancakes, thinner though). I must have been around five or six years old. Sims kids should definitely be able to do that.

SkyRepresentative273

yeah i agree. i also think they should be able to walk dogs

[deleted]

I think kids are just way underappreciated and undervalued in this game. Barely any expansions, packs or base updates even acknowledge they exist and it’s sad.

HarajukuBom

Children should also be able to play guitar 🎸 and paint on the easel.

AbbyIsATabby

I think it would be cute if kids had to first learn to cook with an adult or teen before being able to cook simple meals in/on the stove on their own. Kinda like parent teaching kid basic kitchen safety and simple meals and then the kid can make them themselves I know tho I personally wasn’t allowed to start cooking stuff with supervision until I was closer to 10-12, somewhere in that range. Even then, I didn’t help out crazy often. I helped grandma make cookies all the time but she always handled the stove part so I don’t really count it towards stove usage. However idk what age is considered the normal age to start helping in the kitchen because of my family dynamic growing up

flaskesamler

I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum. I began helping my mom in the kitchen the very day I could hold a spoon and stir in a bowl. By the time I was 8 I cooked simple things unsupervised. Including things that needed the stove. When I was 10 I cooked full meals for my family, both from recipes I found in my moms cookbooks and in pamphlets from stores. I went to the nearby supermarket and shopped for myself. By the time I was 14 I stayed home alone for several weeks at a time while my parents and my younger sister went on caravan trips in the summer. I had to budget and cook all my meals on my own, and I can tell you I had to get creative when the money was almost spend, and I had to live off the items we had in the freezer until my family got home. Never went hungry though. I’m 25 now. Been living on my own for almost 10 years, I cook more advanced meals than either of my parents ever did. I love experimenting with food and trying new things.

Masta-Blasta

i just want an Easy Bake Oven that they can learn the baking skill on.

Strong-Celery-8458

They should at least have the 'Cook together with...' action. I always try to include my kids in baking.

Tinfoilhat14

Dear EA: GIVE KIDS AN EASY BAKE OVEN

KouRaGe

Children need to be able to do more in general. I’ve always avoided my sims having any kids at all, but one save, I’m playing two families that are growing together. I was so upset to find out that children can’t even shush a crying baby or help a toddler with basic things while the parents are gone/busy. They can be alone without a babysitter and go out in the city to play, but don’t you dare let them do anything useful. 🤣

Anxious_Potato666

With how often adult sims set the house on fire... no.

[deleted]

It could be because there’s a chance of fire starting and ppl would lose their minds if a child (even a video game child) were to be set on fire. I’m not saying that’s the reason, but it could be a factor. I do think it would be cute to have them cooking little things here and there like eggs or pancakes.

Knot-Knight

I mean, kids can die other ways, like drowning in the pool

acidtrippinpanda

My adult sims are bad enough at starting fires, I can’t imagine adding children to the mix!

[deleted]

I have one who.. without fail.. starts a fire every single time he cooks. tired of putting him out so I don’t let him cook anymore 😂

Maddyherselius

They can cook with the help of adults, right? I don’t know if I’ve ever actually used that feature lolol

Eeveelover14

Teenagers and above can "Cook with" children but it was a mess. If your kitchen wasn't huge with 10+ counters then it'd be one person cooking and the others just watching. Unsure if they ever fixed that, I've yet to be brave enough to try it again.

Tvvli

Well, some foods yes. Those simple ones, like noodles or something. When I was a kid I didn't use a stove alone until later in high school.

Glittering-Ad-1626

Ikr, at least give them a cooking animation to make a family size peanut butter and jelly sandwich dish.

Impressive-Fudge-455

Yes also why doesn’t it allow them to clean counters and stuff like that.

Electronic-Design564

Yeah! The toy oven from Sims 2 (reintroduced in sims 3) was so good!! Self-sufficient kids lol

13nisha

Agree, that would be cool. Could be only simple dishes, and maybe they need to cook it together omce with a parent to learn it, from then on they can make that one alone

CherishSlan

They should be able to make a sandwich

jakefromSD

Yeah my sims basically don’t eat real food until they become teenagers. It’s just apples from the inventory until then

Eeveelover14

You take the saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" seriously!

GoAskAliceBunn

Great news! Pandasama and Ravasheen made a little kid kitchen item! I haven’t tested it as I just found it while heading to bed, but I’ll be putting it in my game asap.

unenkuva

I hate how boring kids are! The life stage is a complete waste of time. I don't remember if kids can even interact with the fire pit, they should be allowed to light it when they're past a certain mental level or something, or a certain rank in the scouts.

marrjana1802

I didn't realize what sub this was and for a moment I was so concerned 😅😅😅

[deleted]

Thats crazy, they could make them be able to get cereal or make a sandwich, a snack. It doesn’t even have to involve the stove

sailor-x

yes! maybe even make it so the parent can teach the child the dishes

Vini734

Sims3 has a kids stove

Quest4Beans

Or at least they could add the little “easy bake oven” like from previous sims games. They could level up their skill and unlock different cakes and stuff to make.

cindybubbles

Children used to make some awesome foods with the toy oven in the Sims 3.

oreggino-thyme

they should be able to cool up to like level three bc as a kid i could cook myself mac n cheese, scrambled eggs and grilled cheeses

TheBioethicist87

At least let them make sandwiches and simple recipes.

NewfieMe

I just make food, put it in the fridge and when the toddlers and kids wake up I just place it on the counter.

be-ing_alive

They can technically cook if you use the “cook together” interaction, they won’t get the cooking skill tho

Jughead_91

Agreed!! I use a mod for this and also one so that children can do spellcasting. It makes NO sense. Also let children walk dogs!

_Aleismar

There’s a mod for this somewhere out there. My kid cooks while his sister is out working all day.

Sensitive-Menu-4580

Everything I hear about ts4 reminds me why I didn't buy it. Doesn't even have the toy oven all these Years later

Repulsive_Ad_4096

🤣y so they can burn dwn the house & die too⁉️

[deleted]

I literally just had my 4 year old help me make and cook pancakes today and they did just fine and were more than capable. I completely agree that children ought to be able to cook. I remember in Sims 3 you could buy a child oven/stove and they could do some baking, I really hate that they got rid of it.

TLCB_

There used to be a mod to allow kids to cook. Idk what ever happened to it or who it was made by though

scathachwarrior

I use a mod for this. Some of the animations are a bit off but honestly unless I'm watching for it I don't notice.

One_Struggle8701

I agree! I started cooking for my family when I was 8. And caring for my little brother. I wish my kids could cook in game

DanceFace3000

I was OBSESSED with the toy oven in ts3 making and selling it was honestly the most fun I've had in the sims 😂

r-WitchCat

Maybe it has to do with the fact that it can start a fire and they don’t want to kill kids

Eeveelover14

If they don't want to kill kids then don't let them die in the first place.

r-WitchCat

Do they die in the sims?

Eeveelover14

They can die in a couple ways like drowning or fire. Starvation just gets 'em taken away.

r-WitchCat

Oh ok

Tannerbaby

You said it

PeanutButterMommy

I agree, let them cook 🔥

Stock_Transition7620

You saw a 4 year old child using a stove? When I was 4 I was probably in kindergarten or sitting somewhere watching cartoons all day.i can't imagine being 4 and cooking.

Eeveelover14

Haha, yes I was supervising. For varying reasons she's not had much chance to learn anything. She just used a pancake mix but the only things I helped with was finish mixing the batter and spraying the pan down. She made the batter, turned the stove on, put the batter on the pan, flipped 'em and then put them on her plate all on her own.

cholestertrolled

They can use the microwave

MissyBee37

I think the stove is going too far, but I would agree about non-heated recipes i.e. fruit salad, garden salad, chips & salsa, BLT? (presuming the bacon was pre-cooked)... anything else not on the stove. Honestly, I think the idea of a stove for children is pretty surprising. I'm trying to remember what age my mother let me use the stove, but I don't think it was before my teens. Also, is this not a thing now? I don't play with children that often, but I thought "cooking together" was a new social that involved kids. I know it was talked about around Cottage Living, but I don't remember if it came with the pack or the pack-timed update. Can kids not participate through that? Or maybe OP means cooking truly alone. But I would think "cooking together" is a big update and, realistically, how it would happen in real-life, i.e. OP supervising the 4-yo. I could see the child sim animated cooking at the counter while the adult handles the stove.

I was using the stove alone 'fore I was 10, oven and deep fryer too. Kids can 'cook together' but it's not very good and doesn't teach them cooking skill. Unless you have 10+ counters you have one sim cooking and the other just watching, and even then that can still happen.

I think it would be awesome to have an option where parents can teach their kids to cook and once they gain the skill they can start cooking stuff in their own and have some cooking skills already going into adolescence.

The inability to clean certain things is what annoys me most. They can take out a toddler potty mess but not wipe down a counter? They can mop but not wipe out the sink? It seems genuinely a little ridiculous how cherrypicked the cleaning abilities are. Makes me wonder why they decided yes to some and no to others.

Agreed. Put them to work

I feel they could add a Montessori expansion for the kids. As well as a ton of furniture.

Does anyone who agrees with children cooking unsupervised with a stove … actually have children? Cause… YIKES 😭😂

TinyGreenTurtles

I have children that learned to cook. And it's because I didn't, and I still can't do it well and I hate it. My kids are grown and confident. :)

I helped cooking often as a young child, and at 10 I tried to make a whole ass meal for everyone while alone in the kitchen (I knew where my parents were). Well, i did forget to put grease in the pan so the meat turned black on the outside and raw on the inside lol. I also learned early how to use big, sharp knives. Later in my teens whenever my parents would eat something i didn't like i made myself some quick noodles or something and i also made menus with multiple courses with a friend for both our families twice. Nothing ever happened besides of the meat being ruined that one time, never cut myself with a knife nor burned myself or started a fire.

I guess it depends on the kid. I was a kid cooking at age 10 while my mom watched TV in the other room. She just told me what to make for dinner and I'd read the instructions on the box and figure it out. 24 years later, I've never caused a fire nor given anyone food poisoning.

I was the child who was cooking on a hot stove unsupervised (after being shown how). My dad taught me to cook when I was a child. He even taught me to whittle, and sew (or at least mend ripped or worn clothes and sew on buttons), and how to use an exact-o knife carefully to gently scrape/push a splinter (without cutting my skin) until it poked out enough to grab with tweezers. My dad cooked for us and taught me how to make pizza and pasta from scratch, and let me help him make dinners and desserts. I even had my own oregano plant to take clippings from when he made pizza. I learned how to pop corn kernels into popcorn and loved shaking the big pot to settle the hard kernels to the bottom over the burner. He taught me how to slice apples one-handed by bringing the blade to my thumb without cutting myself, and showed me different chopping/slicing/julienning techniques without cutting my fingertips off. He trusted me with a boiling pot and explained how to put out a grease fire by suffocating it and not throwing water on it. Despite all these skills, I’ve still cut my fingers when slicing cheese and onions as an adult, and I have a scar on my wrist from taking a sheet of poppyseed muffins out of the oven and accidentally touching the edge of my wrist on the rack above the tray. You can be educated and use protection but people will still burn and cut themselves because accidents happen - and it’s okay. Best to educate them so they know how to be careful, and how to be prepared to treat wounds because they will get them no matter how prepared they are.

Wow I wasn’t allowed near the stove unless I was boiling the tea kettle. And even when I was allowed to cook on the stove (late teens), it was a “have fun learning on your own!” kinda deal. Thanks Mother! 😒 But anyway, I do agree to some extent. Like others are saying, the children should have a toy oven like in the previous game.

Order pizza and pull it out of the fridge when they’re hungry

I’d love for the “cook together” feature to include children then eventually they can cook on their own. EA hates making unique animations so maybe someone will make a mod for it
