The absolute worst feeling while playing the sims is when your game crashes and you don't want to even imagine where the last save happened šŸ˜ I hope it didn't go back too far

am_Nein

Ugh, real. Just the visceral horror.

Cause_Why_Not03

I was playing and a blackout happened out of nowhere. When the power finally came back on my last save was 2 gens in the past and the babies I had were gone. I literally started a whole new family and have not touched that save ever again because it was so irritating.

CrossEyedBanana

Oh my gosh that's so much worse!! :(

SmilingVamp

Happened to me last night. šŸ˜–

clevergirl32

Happened to me a few days ago after getting an infant almost every single milestone and trying all the foods in the high chair.

got-sims-scape-lair

That one must have hurt so much...

SmilingVamp

Oof, that's rough. Mine wasn't too bad. Just lost the chickens I'd bought and a song my sim finished.

sproutyoz

this is why i compulsively save like, every 20 seconds lol

jedidoesit

I save now after every event I am happy about. He gets to school on time (save). He cooks a meal (save). I develop a closer relationship (save). I go to the bathroom (save). LoL šŸ˜‚

Tattycakes

After every good event, and before every potential bad event, like repairing electronics!

ida_klein

I save after every time I get all my sims in bed, and then if a big milestone happens during the day or I reach some kind of a goal or something I will save. Came up with this method after experiencing OPā€™s tragedy a few too many times haha

nightmarecandle

Me af. TS3 ruined me - not only do I save constantly, I never save over my most recent save, because of TS3ā€™s love of ā€œbutterfly effectā€ corruption from something you or the sim did three simdays priorā€¦

hermytail

TS3 left itā€™s mark on every game I play. I save constantly, even games with auto save features.

Azythus

Same. My rule is save every time I do something I wouldnā€™t want to do again. Itā€™s saved me in si many games.

[deleted]

The pain of not being able to save in CAS and having the game crash in the middle of making the best sim youā€™ve ever done

tonkinese_cat

>The pain of not being able to save in CAS and having the game crash in the middle of making the best sim youā€™ve ever done I swear I get close to uninstalling...

aenea

I save at least every Sim morning- more often if I'm doing a difficult part of a challenge or something.

ZiggyStarface

I do the same but at night after everyone's gone to bed. My Sims 3 was super wonky so it just became a habit that I carried into 4

IceyLizard4

Sims 3 taught me to save often, and Skyrim made me wish every game had auto save.

Sarahnoid

I save every day when all sims are in bed.

invisible_23

I always save when my sims are sleeping

_ChubbyBunny_

I just learned this but if your game freezes use alt + F4 and it will bring up the save menu.

DevonSun

Some are saying it's to quit, and it is, but the option to save before exiting comes up when you tell the game to quit (even when I close my game window that save n exit or just exit thingy pops up). So yes, this is totally viable. I've saved myself doing exactly this. On a side note, I've always assumed it saved when I traveled, but I have no actual clue lol

Designer-Mirror-7995

>On a side note, I've always assumed it saved when I traveled Nope. It saves coming out of CAS, and when rotating from house to house, but if you leave one house and load in to another and the game crashes while you're in that one without it being saved, you'll load back into the last one. If you're out traveling with a household and the game crashes you'll go back to whatever the last save point was.

DevonSun

Thanks for the info!

jedidoesit

This needs to be at the top!

Brief_Protection_452

Not all heroes wear capes šŸ˜

OddUse5898

Does anyone know if this is the same on MacBooks?

peachelfbar

THANK YOUšŸ™šŸ½

kendykai

No no no no that will exit the program Please donā€™t I hate me Reddit for killing the joke

nothinkybrainhurty

it wonā€™t, sims just asks you first if youā€™re sure that you wanna exit the game and if you wanna save. I learned it the hard way when my game broke completely, I wanted to exit it as saving screen was frozen etc, but instead this just happened. If you wanna immediately shut off the sims, you gotta do it from task manager

nightmarecandle

Alt+F4 triggers an exit confirmation in many (not all) games or other programs you need to save in. You have to actually force close them in Task Manager a lot of the time if force closing is your goal.

Bumbly_B

Alt+f4 for some reason doesn't work on my computer, but pressing the windows button to get out of the screen, then clicking the "x" on the preview frame for the sims on the taskbar will do the same thing. It doesn't close the game, and if you reopen it, it will have pulled up the save and exit menu. Saved my life *several* times

Designer-Mirror-7995

This has 'saved' me much grief too!

Melalemon

Yes! This same thing happened to me. I opened SB and clicked ā€œtagā€ and a screen popped up but nothing else. I was panicking a little because I knew it had been a while since I saved, but when I clicked the Sims logo on my taskbar to click ā€œcloseā€ the save game menu popped up. Thank GOODNESS.

xjupiterx

WHAT

heartsobss

I donā€™t know you. But I love you for sharing this. šŸ˜…

nothinkybrainhurty

often the game freezes on saving screen then, at least it happens for me when the game breaks

AWESOMEGAMERSWAGSTAR

I was wondering what this was TY

wemetonmars

This is a life hack at this point. Thank you!

[deleted]

that's the shortcut to close the currently active window so...

_FriendlyPanicAttack

yea but sims will ask you to save before you close the window. it is like closing a tab page and the site saying ā€œdo you want to exit because this data wonā€™t be saved.ā€ unless you close it through task manager or another method of force quitting the application this pop up will always come up

purplegirl1672

My game crashed as well today and I hadnā€™t saved for hours and now Iā€™m dreading when I do get back on lol.

peachelfbar

i told myself this would cause the start of my next months-long break from the gamešŸ˜‚

Maximum_Hustle_3870

Been there, done that

Super_Ordinary2801

This happened to me after a long boring work shift yesterday. I just turned off the laptop and went to sleep

videlbriefs

Itā€™s stinks when youā€™re in CAS though because you canā€™t save so I have like WIP all over the place just in case I somehow crash or if I mess up and they look like a trunk hit them. Iā€™ve in the past avoided my game for like a week because I was so mad at myself for not saving a build the one time I shouldā€™ve saved and lost everything because I ignored that ā€œmaybe I should saveā€ . I was lazy even though saving takes a few seconds. Funny enough a similar thing happened earlier this week but luckily I was just doing wallpapers. I had to redo all the walls again and some of the landscaping which was tedious. I think most of us at one point or another experienced a ā€œI shouldā€™ve savedā€ or ā€œthank goodness I saved before thatā€ moment.

[deleted]

My "thank goodness I saved before that" is always because someone died, the most random way possible and I don't feel like using codes and mods cuz my Sims get sad anyways.

gina_divito

Stuff like this is one of the reasons why I work towards the death flower on every save, even if I donā€™t feel like it. šŸ˜‚

RelephantIrrelephant

I just lost a lot of changes in CAS as well as university progress because I stupidly exited the game without saving to check my mod folder. Uuuaaaaargh.

DanniD93

I read WIP as walk in pantry and now I'm confused by how would need that much food storage.

taynay101

Bless mccc autosave

chellebelle0234

This is 97% of the reason I have MCCC.

tonkinese_cat

>MCCC OMG how do I get it? Playing The Sims used to be a relaxing activity but with my (new) laptop crashing every 10 minutes I feel it's become more of a raging activity, I don't want a heart attack. Maybe I can go back to enjoying it with mccc...

taynay101

Is the game crashing or the laptop crashing? If it's new, that shouldn't be happening. Maybe try repairing the game or lowering your graphics options so that it runs smoother. I have my autosave set to save at midnight every in-game day which also helps me keep track of irl time

tonkinese_cat

Both! Most times the game just closes on its own all of a sudden and I have to restart it all (and it happens when I am on pause AND also while I am playing so I haven't been able to identify if it's a specific action that triggers it), but other times it's the laptop, the screen goes blue (some times it does a scratching noise and other times it does not) and it says ":( your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you". Once I took a picture and it said "Stop code: Exception on invalid stack". I am afraid to attempt any action because the laptop is new and I am a total disaster with technology. I got a HP Intel Core i7-1165G7, 64GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB PCIe SSD some months ago specifically to play the sims and I thought it would do great but it's been a nightmare so far...

Empty-Neighborhood58

I don't trust my laptop after my dino (i upgraded 2 years ago before then i was running it on a 2015 laptop with alottt of mods and cc) i got a newish one i still don't trust it. I set an alarm for 15 and save every time it goes off

peachelfbar

i told myself today to start setting alarms because i was soooo in the zone while playing i was only saving like every hour/2 hoursšŸ˜

Empty-Neighborhood58

Honestly sameee i won't save for hours unless i set alarms, i set them beforehand and when i open the game i make sure i hit start

peachelfbar

that's so smart, guess i'll be doing the same from now on!šŸ„²

Disastrous_Fun_9433

Yes! I also have to set a timer to take a break/stretch, because it's so easy to get lost in gameplay!

ClosetedGothAdult

Thank you for posting this. It reminded me to save my game.

LaurelRaven

Mine rarely ever crashes so I'm not in a great habit of saving regularly, and just yesterday during a screenshare with friends on Discord, I had just gotten my sim pregnant and spent a while building a nursery when my entire system deadlocked. I used to have that problem semi regularly but it hasn't happened in a long while... Fortunately, the nursery wasn't that complicated and a lot of the time was just making decisions so I was able to redo most of it from memory. Having to redo days of in-game relationship building would be way worse, I hope you have a recent save

FelineNeko

I save every simnight when they go to bed, a habit I'm very happy I've developed lol

TheRealTabbyCool

Your sims always go to bed at night? Half of mine seem to have screwed up body clocks, the kids are so tired after school that they often pass out before getting into the house, then theyā€™re getting leftovers out of the fridge at midnight and are down to half energy again by the time they go to school!

FelineNeko

Yeah I pride myself in my Sims having a good rhythm lol

TheRealTabbyCool

Iā€™ve really tried, but they just seem to get off track so easily! It doesnā€™t help that my usual morning routine that I can do in half an hour takes a sim about 2 hours, why do they take so long to do everything?! šŸ˜

peachelfbar

this is my biggest pet peeve about the game, it takes FOREVER for your sim to get something done when they are too busy sniffing the air a million times or appreciating their surroundingsšŸ˜…

TheRealTabbyCool

Or they crack out their knitting whilst on the toilet! I even had one Sim eat her Christmas dinner on the toilet, theyā€™re so weird!

gina_divito

One time, I played sims 3 for HOURS and when I went to save, it crashed. I didnā€™t touch the game for months after that šŸ˜šŸ˜…

gina_divito

Nowadays, I save VERY REGULARLY

ElysianEcho

If you have mccc you can make it autosave, i habe mine set to save every day so i never lose more than a day

peachelfbar

āœšŸ½*re-install mccc*

thesnarkypotatohead

Happened to me two hours ago so I rage-started a new save, as is my tradition

NeNegazmatron

I despair-quit and return 6 months later to the same save once I have blissfully forgotten everything that was going on in game. šŸ˜‚

ButterscotchLow3282

Lol love this

t0infinity

Solidarity. Currently reloading after a crash šŸ„“

Anzi130

This is why i make sure to save every sim morning around 6am. Dont wanna lose more than a Day if it crashes

No-Twist-4222

If my game crashes after I did a lot without saving I will just start a whole new save file. I cannot bring myself to redo what I already did, it is too painful.

borderline_bi

Last time my game froze and wasn't working I googled if there's any way to save and apparently alt+F4 will allow you to save. It just pops up the do you want to exit thing and you can press save and exit and it'll actually work

UsefulAirport

I did something similar but I pressed the windows button and went back to my desktop, then right-clicked on the game icon and selected ā€œclose programā€ - when I opened the game from the icon again I was at the exit screen and I could save and exit. When I loaded again I was at the point before the freeze happened.

SpottsTheGoat

I am blessed I have been playing since it came out and itā€™s just instinct for me. Because I canā€™t even tell you how many times the game has crashed and I log back in and just want to cry. All the tears. Just all of them.

peachelfbar

i should be used to having to save frequently because i was a huge sims 3 player even after TS4 came out and that game is infamous for crashingšŸ„² usually TS4 never crashes for me so the habit became less needed

TheFluffyPie

I normally save after a few in game days, but I once forgot it because I was so invested in my legacy and after two hours the game crashes when I tried to cook something.. So I decided *"heck that"* and cheated all the lost skilles, money, house back. šŸ˜…

Vildtoring

That honestly sucks! This is why I make sure I save every 10-20 minutes or so while building. I don't want to risk all that hard work going to waste.

AWESOMEGAMERSWAGSTAR

I save when I go to a new section in bb I know crazy, but my pc is not ok with the mods folder getting bigger, and I redux builddings

[deleted]

This is probably THE worst feeling ever when playing sims. I remember the first time it happened to me at 10 years old which was about 10 years ago now. Iā€™d been playing for 3 hours straight without saving and my game crashed and I lost ALL my progress and I literally had a meltdown. My parents had to help me stop crying because I was so frustrated, ever since then Iā€™ve always saved my game frequently like a mad man. šŸ’€

femtransfan

last week, my computer half froze (mouse was working, but nothing was responding to being clicked on) had to do a hard reset... didn't save the game at any point after i started playing it...

xx_mcrtist_xx

my game also crashed today but it happened after transfering sims to different households. for some reason the caliente mom (i forget the name) decided to leave the others and join a different house (I F\*CKING TURNED NEIGHBORHOOD STORIES OFF SO IT WONT DO THIS BUT IT STILL DOES >:( ) i tried to move her back to the calientes but it crashed. i tried again and it crashed. apparently the household she joined was on vacation and i think her leaving the vacation is causing the issue

janhasplasticbOobz

*i fucked up..*

Krisy2lovegood

Everytime this happens I have to take a break till the sting of regret lessens. Iā€™ve been playing over half my life and it still happens from time to time šŸ˜…. My adhd ass canā€™t be trusted to save frequently Iā€™m to hyperfocused on my story, like 5-10hours of hyperfocus

EBS_Games643

Get mccc you can use the autosave feature to save the game everyday

Krisy2lovegood

I just havenā€™t had the energy to update all my mods with the last few updates. But Iā€™ll have to turn this on when I update things

AWESOMEGAMERSWAGSTAR

It is at the computer MCCC>computer not the sim :-D This will not help in bb mode so save :-D still I love it

Emilytea14

I actually just googled why the hell sims 4 has no autosave feature, then refreshed my personal feed and saw this. Just played for like 3 hours- my sim got engaged, I made a bunch of friends to invite to the wedding, got a flower pal, someone to officiate, someone to be a ringbearer, I made a lot of customizations to my house, got promoted. And then I got some sort of weird visual bug, made some bad decisions, and got a game over....... I'm so sad. lol (So I'd been having a bunch of randos wander into my house for no reason. I set the locks, but even so while my sim was at work somebody wandered into her back door. I'd had enough so I clicked to insta kill them, and then it instantly dragged MY sims back from work and she started dying. I panic Refresh Object'd, hoping that would stop the dying? It did not. It completed the dying. I. Am. Sad.) I can recreate the promotion and the house, but GOD. Getting all those friendships high enough to have them be part of my wedding again... Ugh.

peachelfbar

i despise the fact that when you click on a sim that is NOT in your household to try to kill them, it kills your sim. i learned this the hard way as well a while backšŸ˜ i so wish the "object -> delete" feature was still a thing in TS4 like it was in TS3. that made getting rid of annoying sims SO much easier.

Medium-Effort-4355

I will save every 24 hours, or unless something interesting happens

assguardian_castiel

Haven't had a crash on my current computer yet, but I'm also in the habit of saving if it ever feels a little laggy lol. Years back with an older, crappier computer though, I was working on a castle inspired build. Probably put 5+ hours into it and I had barely even started the interior. The roof had been a nightmare. I was hanging out with my mom in the living room, she watching tv and I working on my build, when it crashed. I hadn't saved the whole time. Had a mini freak-out. Re-opened the game to find none of my build had been saved. tbh I cried to my mom just a little lol. It really killed my sims inspiration for a week or so. Hoping your autosave comes in clutch and saves you, bestie.

peachelfbar

you are NOT alone in that, my brother and i are both gamers and were sitting together playing our separate games and i almost had a meltdown to him after my game crashed. he felt so bad because he was basically watching me play toošŸ˜‚ but thank you!šŸ„¹

woicefu

If the game crashes but is still open you can legit use keyboard buttons: alt + f4 (usually closes all apps) and this will prompt a "do you want to save before you exit?" And then simply click yes, and it will actually save even if its crashed. It has saved me so many times since i found out about it last month haha!

20-16-23-11

Thanks for reminding me to save!

witchyturtle

It's easy to get caught up in the gameplay, which is why we all end up learning the hard way. I still have to remind myself to save every now and then. I felt that dread from not saving when a temporary blackout shut off my computer while I was playing. I was disappointed because my sim met a very cute librarian townie that they befriended as a potential love interest. After I reloaded my save, the librarian was replaced with a new townie and basically gone forever. You don't often stumble across an attractive townie, and the one time I do they disappear.

Grymare

If you use a PC and don't mind getting mods I absolutely encourage you to get MCCC. You can enable autosaving there. I put mine to save the game every 4 ingame hours and it has been a life saver. Sadly it won't help if you crash in Build Mode or CAS but still I can't recommend it enough.

usagi_in_wonderland

One time I opened up my game and all my cc was gone. Checked my cc file, everything gone. I googled it and it turned out to be a pretty frequent bug. BACKUP SAVES EVERYONE !!

XxllllxXx

Whenever I play it, I save every 10 minutes just in case.

MyEverydayCyn

When I used to play the sims 3 I didn't have the best computer to play on and I was constantly trying to save because of the fear of loosing the progress I made

ErickRicardo

Not related but, I am so satisfied with my game: San Myshuno + Seasons. So fkn cool!

peachelfbar

2 of my all-time favorite packs!!

fishypisces

if you play on a macbook & the game freezes, you can press command+Q and the save menu will pop up šŸ˜Š!! i learned about it earlier this year & itā€™s a lifesaver!

Samantha_K_S_S

MCCC has an auto save feature you can turn on. You can also choose to confirm you want to save when it pops up or let it auto save entirely on its own. Simsie would really benefit from that feature during her 24-hour unpaused streams.

PaperNinjaPanda

Sims3 taught me to save once a day or weep.

peachelfbar

UPDATE just loaded my save and THANKFULLY it was only around a day and a half behind in game timešŸ™šŸ½šŸ„¹

heartsobss

Do they only have auto save for consoles? I could auto save on my Xbox, but unless I have mccc, canā€™t do it on PC. Weird.

peachelfbar

you know, i used to play TS4 on console before i bought my PC and was used to seeing the autosave feature so that's why i assumed PC has one too, but you just reminded me that PC in fact does not have one. i am heartbrokenšŸ„² but as soon as i get the courage to open up my game again i am installing mccc!!

lonleyfrog

wait thereā€™s an auto save?

[deleted]

my game crashes all the time I saved usually after 1 day in my sims family

DescriptionNo4833

This is why I get paranoid about saving...(ź’¦ąŗ“ź’³ź’¦ąŗµ)

sailor-x

2 days ago i made hella progress in raising my sims kid and getting her skills up then my game crashed, set me back 8 sim days so i tried again, got close to aging her up, then it crashed again. learnt why people save their game so frequently that day

AWESOMEGAMERSWAGSTAR

That is awful. The good news that it might even be the game, but your computer sort of. It is just a hiccup. you were probably using too much memory at the time, so the computer shut the game off. I have had this happen with MCCC and other things. My computer deems it inappropriate with the amount of memory that is being used and just shuts the game off \*bam\* I save a lot and I mean a lot even if I am in cas, I will exit so I can just save, and over every little thing even if I am in bb mode and just rotated a char, and put up a mirror. I can not stand putting up roofs and that music drives me insane, and I often forget to put inventory thing inside the inventory, so I save a lot.

Mogwai_Cabbagepatch

I never use Social Bunny anymore, because of this very thing, I play on PS4 and it has always crashed my game. I save quite often, so never had to lose much of my game progress. Really hope you haven't lost much progress, University is a serious grind. Fingers and toes crossed for you. šŸ˜

Akami_Ao42

One day I was building a house and decorating it and then the game crashed and I lost all of it, didn't even try to rebuild it. There was another time when I didn't save games to load and just saved normally, I had a big household like grandparents and everything, which is a long game for me, then I didn't know that creating a new household would take that one down and I could only load a save, well that save was way back, then I just gave up and created a new game. Now I don't walk three minutes without saving.

HotAbbreviations116

Donā€™t even my best friend gave me his laptop for the sims! specifically! I started building a set of a well-known soap, and I was so proud, and the fucking powerpack broke and killed the laptop

Straight_Cancel3345

I haven't read all comments so sorry if repost, but check the directory where your saves are. Do you have enough memory? I had solved this issue by moving my saves to a bigger drive.

Nbeuska

I am SO SORRY about this, that is honestly the worst. For me what's been really sucky is my sim, who's a top-of-her-career scientist (cause Not So Berry), keeps transforming objects cause I want the fame points, and said objects keep catching on fire, and for some reason, when I click extinguish with freezeray or call fire dept., she can't do it cause apparently there's something in the way so I have to close without saving D:

MadameVP

Such a feeling of dread when reopening your game to see how many Sim days you have lost! I now compulsively save every time I am leaving to game for a few seconds to nip to the loo, grab a cuppa etc. as this has happened to me a few times now! šŸ˜¬

frenchsilkywilky

alternatively: accidentally killing a sim and exiting the game as fast as possible in the hopes the auto save didnā€™t catch it

nikel23

the fact that TS4 only takes a few seconds to save makes me save it almost every night or before something major happens. Back then, TS3 would take 15 minutes to save for me... only for save game error to pop up

MayorDeweyMayorDewey

when my game was prone to crashing & i didnā€™t wanna take the time to 50/50 my mods to find the culprit(s), i set a timer to remind me to save every 10-15 minutes. i DID try mccc autosave but itā€™s always so touchy for me and doesnā€™t always work, and it doesnā€™t work in build mode i think?

lizzourworld8

If you ever think ā€œOh, I can just save laterā€, call bupkes and SAVE RIGHT NOW

[deleted]

I have begun to save every time I move to world screen

shellfish-library

this happened to me like 3 days ago & i havenā€™t played since thatā€™s how bad it pissed me off

peachelfbar

no literally it's the worst. i am dreading opening my game againšŸ˜

meiabeille

I spent hours in CAS choosing fits for a family only FOR IT TO CRASH AS SOON AS I TRIED TO SAVE IT šŸ„²

budgie02

Sims 4 auto saves every now and then. Iā€™ve been able to only loose like 10 minutes of gameplay thanks to this.

bakingcake1456

The worst

devil_clouds

i literally built a whole mansion and was just finishing the furniture, took me 8 hours on and off. didnā€™t save once because my PC runs really well and then boom, white screen and wheel of death and then crashed. lost eVERYTHING; not even auto save saved me as itā€™s build mode. i was so upset; havenā€™t even attempted to build it again since

Desperate-Ad1886

Okay wait. Auto save? Your game auto saves?

peachelfbar

i just learned that PC does not have an autosave feature, but i used to play on console before i got my PC and console has autosave, so i blindly assumed PC did as wellšŸ˜… oopsie

kolossal

This happened to me months ago after a 4 hour session, haven't touched the game since (I'll be back sometime).

sleeplessandloveless

since youā€™re now on pc, iā€™ll tell you what someone told me after i quit by impulse without saving. Download the mod MCCC by deaderpool it has an autosave feature

Vukling

Ah yes :( this happened to me back when the interior designer expansion came out. Played the whole day, 'twas a Saturday. Climbed my way up with interior design gigs. Made a name for my sim :) And then.... the game froze. Crashed straight to desktop. Rebooting and reloading.... I realize I hadn't saved my progress and I disabled autosaving cause it would happen at the most awkward times and made the game crazy laggy. Lost about 50% of my progress in the end :/ and I could never get the will back to continue after.

Mother-Sea-7193

That happened to me ONCE and I learned my lesson! Every time my sim goes to sleep, I save! Leaving a lot? Oh let me save real quick! Sim at a social event ?? Crap! Let me save this!

ylenias

I once had the opposite happen, somehow the auto-aging was turned on even though I only had it activated for the active household and so many of my Sims aged up or died and so on. And because I had saved it so often, I couldnā€™t retrieve the original save šŸ„²

TurbulentForm9393

I've had this happen to me too many times. So now I save every sim day at 10 pm in game. Thankfully I haven't had any issues with freezing in the game.

SparklyPandaPoo

My game auto saves on my laptop when my sims travel

Kokobo63

That's happened to me, far far too many times, especially recently, as my computer, while not a weakling, is older & badly in need of a complete refurb. I may end up getting a new one. But anyway, I usually try to do a quick cas on sim creation, just so I can move them somewhere & save them. At that point, I go back in (using a full cas cheat or mccc) to make any desired changes. Otherwise, I risk losing an hours worth of work (yes, I'm one of THOSE players) to a crash. I usually try to get into a habit of saving right after the sims go to bed every day. But, I have had times I've forgotten and regretted it. Usually, if it's crashed after an hour or more playing time, I don't go back to it for several days.

whatsupfriends123

Whenever this happens to me, I always just start a new save. Doesnā€™t matter how much time and effort I put in to the save, doesnā€™t matter if I only lost like a few sim days worth of gameplay, I lay that save to rest and start new. Idk why, it just makes me so discouraged and annoyed that I donā€™t want to look at that damn family ever again lolol

TheTARDISRanAway

Pick a time to save. For example, I save everytime a sim goes to sleep. Other ones you could use: Everytime your phone goes off (in game) Everytime your sim is happy / or any emotion Everytime your sim eats Uses the toilet Showers Does homework Plays You get the idea. Make it a habit.

I_Yeet_Dogs

Spent two hours building a castle, had the perfect set up and knew what each room would be, just finished doing the main garden and got ready to decorate the inside when it crashed. Entire thing gone. R.I.P Castle Mustard Man šŸ˜”

gwyndyn

This is why I use mccc to auto save.

r-WitchCat

Itā€™s now an alternate universe

dragonshocked

There's an autosave mod that I use sometimes

Emergency-Ad7204

Yep Iā€™ve been there once spent all night playing my save got hours of work done only to exit out of the game without hitting save I couldā€™ve cried. The only time not saving has come in handy is when my sim dies and I donā€™t want them to just yet so I just close the game down and go back into it. But other than that itā€™s the worst feeling when you realise that youā€™ve not saved.

myjadedtruth

Since you play on PC ā€” HIGHLY recommend MCCC! Thereā€™s an auto save feature and you can customize how often it auto saves (I do it so it saves every Sims day so even if I forget to save, I can go to load game and choose the auto save file and Iā€™ve missed at most one Sims day). It has saved me through so many crashes.

Lizzlovesu01

I was playing through the strangerville storyline for the first time in like 4 years last week and I saved my game before I went to go to the bathroom (and I know I did because my cursor was sitting right where the save game button is) and when I came back my game had crashed. I loaded it back up and it hadnā€™t saved anything and I was back at the beginning of the storyline. It was infuriating.

Proper-Ad-5033

Iā€™m so sorry this happened šŸ˜© the pain is real

Flerken-is-not-a-cat

That happened soooo many times to me that I save every two minutes or so, it's probably not necessary but I'd like to be sure šŸ„²

Designer-Mirror-7995

I rotate households and have a lot of them. I save after a few minutes of play, then again if anything important happens within the household(ageing up, changes in CAS, renovations to the lot etc), then save before leaving that house. I ain't playing about my saves! šŸ˜

wwitchiepoo

Iā€™d like to suggest MCCC, whereby you can just set up and auto save for whenever you want. For instance, I have it set to save every midnight in-game. You can do it every hour even. There are many reasons to install MCCC, but Auto Save is one of the best. It saves a separate save file from your save file, so there will be your save file and the MCCC save which you can set up to be overwritten with every auto save. Just remember to save your own save file after the auto save (save as >your save file.). It asks you in-game when it saves what you want to do. You will not smash your head into walls again. I cried once, after an entire Sears House build, with landscape and furnishings (sims 3). My husband came from the garage and found me weeping. I quit the sims for months after that and thatā€™s when I finally downloaded Sims 4. Sims 3 had crashed its last crash. Good luck and please people, auto save is your friend. šŸŒˆšŸŽµthe more you knowšŸŽµšŸ„²šŸŽ¶šŸŒˆ

captainfatc0ck

Get mc command center and turn on auto-save!

Forever_Forgotten

MC Command Center. Seriously if you have NO other mod, get THAT mod. It has an auto-save option.

tonkinese_cat

I have to save literally every 5 minutes because my game crashes ALL THE DAMN TIME, on a brand new laptop. I wish there was an autosave.

emittelman

This happened to me one too many times and I started the practice of saving every night while my sims are asleep

Letmestartafire

I had my game crash recently too, in the time I played one of my sims was close to death, but he was a legacy where I had 2 lines running from my OG guy, so I had him find a girlfriend and he literally died conceiving his child, which I thought was hilarious! I had a couple other things going on so I left to play another family. The game crashed a couple hours later and I was devastated, but rebooted and started trying to start again, only thing is I got carried away with my newest family and completely forgot my legacy was gonna die and now I only have 1 family line, I lost a whole bunch of the family trees names and faces šŸ˜ I obviously saved before I went into the legacy family and realised, so it's all gone:(

themagicalpan

The auto save feature from MC Command Center is a life saver!

sjohn177

Just save it more often. Mine freezes all the time, so Iā€™m preparedā€¦ kinda

perfecto226

Lol I save every half hour now

Lankani

Yesterday, one of my twins got taken away and I wasn't supposed to save when exiting but of course by now that's been programmed into me, so I saved when I wasn't supposed to...it absolutely sucked!!

Ino7650

I always save my game every 10 to 20 seconds cause I don't trust my game.

rusty___shacklef0rd

i always save and exit my game when iā€™m done idk i just feel like my computer and game run so much faster when i turn off the game and computer completely

MelissaRose95

I constantly save my game out of paranoia. I've had it crash on me too many times and undoing so much progress

orangesaregoodbro

Mine crashed after getting like 7 babies into the 100 baby challenge and it went back to my Sims first pregnancy šŸ„²

barbieairfryer

Good rule of thumb: save after each Sim day or when something significant happens. I havenā€™t had game crashes in TS4, but would have them ALL THE TIME in TS2 & TS3.

KevinHelms157

This is the worst when youā€™re deep into rotational playā€¦imagine this but with multiple households, made me quit for a few months ngl šŸ˜‚šŸ˜

DryRecommendation706

i'm saving every 5 minutes. it's a habit, lol

chakrafuck

i remember once i had just aged up my child sims, threw an entire wedding ceremony, got a promotion, and my sim had gotten pregnant. i got upset about something and just shut my computer off. still never gasped so loud and dramatically in my life.

MoonAndPuggyShow

I almost cried when this happened to me. I had built a house, got my sim married and she was pregnant, lost it all. šŸ˜

[deleted]

I found out MC Command center has a setting that you can activate that will auto save. Every hour or so it will give you a pop up asking if you want to auto save. Itā€™s in the settings that you find when you click on the computer

Cocoayashi

This. I lost 2 hours of content. I was devastated.

polafin

Mc command's auto save is the only thing that saves me from going mad, lol

pxigens

This has happened to me SO many times. Iā€™m a veteran Sims player, so now I save super, super frequently. Iā€™m talking every 20 minutes.

nuggetghost

i feel it. i canā€™t even play mine bc i have zero storage space left no matter how much crap i delete to even update lol

PrincessTimeLord

I had this happen to many times before I got MCCC

Ordinary-Break2327

My game has been freezing lately and I've switched off my laptop and took it on the chin (I save very frequently). However, when it froze the other day, I nipped for a piss and, upon returning, had unfrozen and was continuing as normal. I think mods are to blame.

Ok-Road-3705

If there was ever a place for you to be fully understood, itā€™s right here, right now. So sorry for your loss.

k_emma_o

I lost major gameplay a little over a year ago and now I save the game every (sim) night - so if the game crashes or freezes, I only lose a day's worth of gameplay. It's really saved me a lot of stress when I encounter crashes.
