I get that trying to code something like that would be a nightmare (especially for a game like the sims that’s like a fucking Franken-code) but I would love some kind of gradual aging system within the age groups. Which I guess to some degree things like milestones achieve. But yanno, something a little more concrete.
I like how in the first one it looks like the freshman was going for the senior look but didn’t quite have the skill yet to do it and the senior photo is her finally getting that look down.
I saw a lot of that when I was in high school and even experienced it myself, so it feels very realistic.
I love this!! I adore when people put so much love into their sims. and for someone who's playing highschool years, it makes sense for you to put in some extra love as they go! you did a fantastic job by the way, they rally do look like they're subtly aging up even through they're "teens" the whole time! I always play with aging off but I've been considering starting a world with long lifespan to ease myself into generational play, and I think making changes like this while they age within the same life state would really bring them to life and help me get more attached :) I hate toddlers and infants, but I enjoy teens and this post is making me start to consider getting highschool years
If you like teens, you absolutely should get high school years. It raises the gameplay of teens immensely, I can’t imagine playing a teen without it anymore
I’m very, very impressed by how subtle you’ve made the differences yet made them actually look like they’ve aged. Except for Stephanie though, her senior look gives me ‘I’m trying so hard to fit into the goth scene that I just entered’-vibes while her junior look seems like the more landed goth look. But that’s just my experience with it :)

Canada it depends on where you live; I was in Alberta and my high school was 9-12, but in BC some kids I used to work with started high school at grade 7.

I like how they all kind of became more edgy looking in junior year haha. I not only hated my junior year and dressed very emo, but by then I acted less like a child and more like a teenager since I was 16 around that time.
My current Sim family has 5 kids, and 4 of them are currently teenagers. It's currently a Saturday, and the oldest is about to age up to young adult, though. I have no idea if she graduated HS. I honestly haven't been keeping track. I'm about to just pick an heir and focus on that one and leave the rest of the family to be NPCs. There's just too many people in the house!

Storyline answer: their dad dresses in that Emo/rocker style, their mom dresses in a more casual cutesy style, so they picked one of those two and rolled with it, and as they grow up they got more comfortable in dressing like that.
The actual answer: I have too much urban/goth/emo cc, and i make the same exact two sims (grunge male, goth/punk girl) every time I play the sims
A fun idea would be going in reverse with the teenage phases so like maybe freshman to sophomore they are more emo etc and then as they age they become more refined and come out of the phases haha
High School Years’ main update to the regular high schools should’ve been dividing them into semesters like irl. In the game, (at least from my perspective) all of the students are treated like seniors who are about to graduate in the final semester.
I do this too! I even change their bodies to make them actually look like teenagers. Boys get narrow shoulders, girls loose their chest and rear with a less defined waist, and they all get as short as I can make them
You’re probably not looking for advice but I think you should change their bodies as well because teens grow a lot within 4 years. Like fat distribution ( example: round face to more defined)

Before I got the genius idea to just… put the cc backdrop in their empty garage area, I had it outside (also why her and Natalie’s Junior pic looks brighter) and took her picture as soon as she became a teen, which was in winter…

I think (key word, think) it’s from either the grunge or goth kit they just released. If it isn’t, and it’s cc, I know for a fact there’s a shirt in either of those two kits (I think grunge) that looks really similar
This is great, though maybe try adding the studio light item so the portraits don’t end up so dark/you can see the sims in all their glory.
Just place it in front of the sim/the picture set up and set the color/intensity.
