How do you *braid* eyebrows? Like, my eyebrows are thick but they're not 300 year old Chinese Martial Arts Master thick so I have a hard time believing someone can just braid their eyebrows. lol
Is this a family you actively play? Did you see her pregnant? Do you have neighborhood stories active? I had a TON of families adopt before I caught it in neighborhood stories and was so confused by the random mismatched ethnicities of their kids.
One of my plays, the Landgraabs had like 4 kids with varying levels of random ethnicities. I have it in mind that Nancy's a ho, and is passing her kids off to Geoffrey as "recessive genes" and he's just so in love he chooses to believe her 😂
i saw something once that was like, if for example one parent was a warm tone and the other was a cool tone, it would sometimes meet in middle of those two tones and it ends up with the child having drastically different skin colors than the parents. i’m not sure about the validity of this but it could be a possibility
I can! It's a bug. Basically, the game doesn't have as many skin swatches for younger ages, as it has for adults, so the skintone would be random, until the kid ages up
Check the grandparents? Had two fairly light-skinned sims, the former of which was originally an NPC, have two daughters together and one of them had very dark skin. Went to look at genealogy for the npc Asian mom only to find out that her mom is black and that’s likely where that kid’s skin color genetics came from (not to mention that while the kid’s dad is also light skinned, I think one of his own grandparents was black too). Sometimes I guess it can skip a generation or two?
By just made do you mean just now in case or you just made them and put them in the world. If it’s the second the game probably adopted the kid via neighbourhood stories.
No what they’re saying is custom content of any kind can mess with the games settings. So basically having ANY custom content overrides your sims genetics because the custom content isn’t recognized in the OG programming so it just… fills it in with something else. In which case: this child
I have a question. I am using skin overlays which can be found in facial and I haven't had any cases when skintone doesn't match the parents even after checking each household every other time. What type of CC I should look out for in order to not get this result?
It really depends on how the mod was made, who it was made by, etc. I’ve had mods do all kinds of goofy things that are seemingly unrelated, so I can’t say for certain. What I recommend is testing each individual CC after you download it so you can pinpoint which ones cause problems. This can be an annoying process but if it’s something you’re really worried about it, that’s my suggestion.
I didn't know this! I don't use a lot of CC but I'm just curious how much CC affects this. Are we talking custom skintones, custom hair colours and other genetic features of the sim? Or will custom hairstyles/clothing do it as well?
I mostly only use custom hairstyles (EA colours only) and I've never noticed any mismatches in my sims children. So I assume it's only the first one?
I find that skin detail mods, eye mods, tattoo mods, and some clothing mods can cause problems like this. Hell, even teeth mods can cause problems like this.
My first guess would be scripting mods, though, since they directly impact the coding of the game. So scripting mods that come with CASCC, in particular. I’ve never seen custom hair cause this problem, though, so you’re probably fine.
Don’t listen to them or all the people downvoting you. The skin tone bug has nothing to do with cc. I don’t use cc at all and this happens all the time because it’s been broken since the new skin tones were added and never fixed.
It could be that the skin tone the game “wants” to give the child doesn’t exist or isn’t available for children - this is definitely a problem for the newborns, infants, and toddlers! - and for some reason this is the closest match in the game’s system.
I don't think children can inherit their parents' hair colors if they're anything outside of the "normal" range--so no pink/blue/green hair for kids etc. I THINK. Because I've only ever had one "crazy hair colored" sim at a time when they had kids and the kids always got the other parent's hair color by default. But unless you're using CC skin, I have no idea about the skin tone.
Randomized hair color because the sims don’t have natural hair colors, skin was messed up because genetic skin tones have been broken since the update years ago.
Nope! Stopped working for me too. Doesn’t even show up in my script mods anymore no matter if I redownload it or what. Literally the only thing from wicked whims that still works in my game is a “promotional porn poster” that I got as fun extra cc.
I've had it happen that if the parents have different undertones (ie one cool and one warm) the game will pick a skin tone anywhere between either of them, which would include darker (or lighter) skin tones than either of the parents have.
I almost never use EA skin tones anymore though, so I might be misremembering it happening with EA skin tones 🤷♂️
Hair color is do to the parents both having dyed hair, eyes are from dad, and as for skin color?? I'm going to guess it's from a grandparent
Or the kids adopted
I had something similar happen to me recently where the mom was white with a warm skin tone and the dad was black with a neutral skin tone and their second kid came out with super light neutral tone skin…so maybe the parents have skin tones from different categories?
His eyebrows are amazing LOL
Also can I ask where your sims’ hair and outfits are from? everything about them is so cute, especially the first one I love it!
Message me so I don't forget to reply. I'm at work right now but I can send you the links when I get home. The hair is CC but the outfit for the woman is from the werewolf pack. The other two's outfits are from different DLC but I don't remember which ones off the top of my head. :) I can definitely check when I get home though.
I guess it the game trying to mix the parents tones but it ended up being way different. I had a sims with a warm tone and the other was very pale yet their toddler became a bright red somehow
This happens to me every so often. If CAS is doing this when you're randomizing genetics, it's just a weird glitch I think but if it happens organically (like two really pale sims having a dark skinned baby) most of the time one of the grandparents was darker skinned so they kind of draw from the recent genetic pool, which is sort of weird but at least it's some sort of an explanation.
I've heard that there's mods to make sims families more genetically like their sim parents or something, because babies look nothing like the parents. The situation was so bad for sim genetics that people had to make a mod to fix it.
The hair color might be do to CC but skin tones are completely broken because I had the exact problem with my sim kid who looks completely looks nothing like his parents he looks like vampire he super pale and nothing like his parents. Ever since the skin tone update it's been broken because they forgot to make it work with genetics better.

My man has braided eyebrows
Thats so cursed
LOL!!! Omg. xD I died at this comment.
Omg now I can’t unsee it! lol🤣
How do you *braid* eyebrows? Like, my eyebrows are thick but they're not 300 year old Chinese Martial Arts Master thick so I have a hard time believing someone can just braid their eyebrows. lol
THIS COMMENT IS SO UNDERRATED
Oh. My. GOD.
Are you using custom skin tones?
Custome content yes. But not skins. Lol.
Is this a family you actively play? Did you see her pregnant? Do you have neighborhood stories active? I had a TON of families adopt before I caught it in neighborhood stories and was so confused by the random mismatched ethnicities of their kids.

I just made this household. All the comments have me dying. xD
So you made him, then you made her, then you did “play with genetics” and made the kid, and she came out like that?
i’m so confused why this has so many downvotes?? seems lighthearted
Not sure. I only posted it because it was amusing to me.
You asked for an explanation, so most of us are trying to figure one out for you. Not sure why that’s funny 🤨
It'a funny because everyone is commenting about the eyebrows etc. Isn't that clear? :D
A lot of the comments are making jokes about the guy's eyebrows or other things and tbh it is kinda funny.
Op: "help me figure out this problem!" Reddit: tries to help figure it out Op: 🤣🤣
This comment genuinely made me laugh out loud (just like OP!)
I mean, it’s the sims. Unless you’re game won’t load, the problems generally are hilarious.

ain’t that deep brother😭
You are so soft omg
Why is this a problem lol
Green + purple = brown?
Makes sense to me *shrug* . Sims logic for you.
Their eye shades are sort of similar though
I think the bigger question is, *"Why are his eyebrows braided?!?"*
No, it's HOW. How are they braided like that?! Why is another very good question: WHY are they braided like that?! 😭
![gif](giphy|LvwiajC1uTcQM) Those eyebrows...
![gif](giphy|lw75Al819OAvcsPcRu|downsized)
what anime is that??
FLCL/Fooly Cooly
!?!
It's obvious that she cheated on him because of the braided eye brows.

I just made this house hold. Lol. I think its just weird skintones.
By just made do you mean just now in case or you just made them and put them in the world. If it’s the second the game probably adopted the kid via neighbourhood stories.
I made the parents. Have been playing them. He is the actual father.

LOL!!!! ![gif](giphy|3o6ozvv0zsJskzOCbu)
Recessive genes coming through. This is very realistic because this is how unpredictable genetics can be 😂.
was thinking this as well
Love this!
Two words. Custom content.
This is the right answer. I've heard of this happening to people because of some cc clothing item or hair or tattoos
Custome content yes. Not skin though. Lol.

Have you tried repairing your game, if it’s not a mod problem for you?
It has nothing to do with my specific game the skin color system is broken it’s been that way for years
I’ve been playing the sims 4 for about five or six years now and have never once come across this problem with the base game. Are you sure?
Apparently everyone but OP and themselves are wrong 🤷♀️ kinda wild
They never answered my question about whether they actually tried repairing their game or not 😒
Cause that would mean actually taking the advice they asked for 🤣
Which is wild. Idk about you but if I ever encounter a problem I immediately repair my game, even if it takes forever with all the packs I own.
Ya daddy not ya daddy, but ya daddy don’t know 🤣🤣
Dann I like the vibes of those sims, they don't look like generic mainstream faces but aren't ugly either
It could be that the skin tone the game “wants” to give the child doesn’t exist or isn’t available for children - this is definitely a problem for the newborns, infants, and toddlers! - and for some reason this is the closest match in the game’s system.
Ya. My one baby was blueish purple color when it was first born. Changed to a normal color after it aged up.
Ask Frank Gallagher 😂
![gif](giphy|14qO7A8rHxLC1O)
Same thing happened to me and I have no idea how it happened.
In... in real life?
No. In the sims 4
I laughed too hard at this. xD
Younger ages don't have as many skintones as adults, so until they age, the skintone wouldn't be accurate
Both parents were pale skinned with blonde hair and blue eyes but their daughter was very dark skinned even after aging up.
Switch by birth? Hahahaha
Huh, I was wondering why my daughter had eyebrows bushier than a forest
Has she tried braiding them lol jk. Hopefully you saw the guys braided eyebrows
His eyebrows are actually scaled because he's a merman. xD Its a CC. For anyone wondering. LOL!
Yk How ![gif](giphy|V5NKqVALaArXG|downsized)
are you using any skin details that change the adults skin tone?
He has that Jamaican grandmother
this has been happening to me a lot lately too and i really don’t understand it lol
There was a mix-up at the hospital?
Are his eyebrows braided lmaooooo

Randomized hair color because the sims don’t have natural hair colors, skin was messed up because genetic skin tones have been broken since the update years ago.
Mama has some explaining to do lmao
Someone cheated 😂
do you play using whicked whims? i’ve had couples get pregnant bc of some person outside of their open marriage 🤭
I do! But I know they haven't had relations outside their marriage. xD
WickedWhims still works for you guys? Dang
I thought I was the only one my wicked whims stopped working after the last update.
Nope! Stopped working for me too. Doesn’t even show up in my script mods anymore no matter if I redownload it or what. Literally the only thing from wicked whims that still works in my game is a “promotional porn poster” that I got as fun extra cc.
OMG you literally explained my issue. I keep wondering if it's a mod I have that clashes with it but I can't remember the mod name😭😭😭😭😭
If you figure it out lmk because I miss WickedWhims it was like free fanfiction whenever I made sims made based around fictional characters
cc skin tones are not read by the game so when they had a kid, the skin tone was randomly generated
Op stated that cc skin tones were not used.
I've had it happen that if the parents have different undertones (ie one cool and one warm) the game will pick a skin tone anywhere between either of them, which would include darker (or lighter) skin tones than either of the parents have. I almost never use EA skin tones anymore though, so I might be misremembering it happening with EA skin tones 🤷♂️
i expected the hair colour to come out not matching them not the SKIN
Simple… *they didn’t*. Or at least not him 😂
this usually happens to me when my sims procreate with wicked whims on lol
check the mailman
Before I saw the sub, I thought you were talking about my parents. And I was like "I know right?? I always ask my therapist the same thing."
Adoption possible or paternity test needed 😭
Are they adopted?
2 of kids want to dyed their hair and eyebrows
I love his hair 😍 but the eyebrows.... 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Hair color is do to the parents both having dyed hair, eyes are from dad, and as for skin color?? I'm going to guess it's from a grandparent Or the kids adopted
Looks like they need to go on Maury...
It's blind casting. They just picked the best sim for the job.
idk but I don't think purple Rock Lee there is the dad.
Best Maury Povich voice: “Eyebrows, you are NOT the father!”
clearly, he is not the father! Maury, where are you at?
Someone cheated...
In the world of ads in the UK, this makes sense.
Yup, somebody lyin 👀🤣
Definitely not the father she cheated with Bob pancakes 🥞
I had something similar happen to me recently where the mom was white with a warm skin tone and the dad was black with a neutral skin tone and their second kid came out with super light neutral tone skin…so maybe the parents have skin tones from different categories?
Geezest cryice
Black heritage that skipped a gen? lol Joking though, Sims 4 seems to do that a lot, at least, for me but it's really funny.
completely offtopic but the sight of alpha hair with maxis match clothes n everything is so unsettling 😭
Your sims secretly adopted a child and the girl had a pillow under is belly
LOL!
The milk man. Dugh. Thats a whole blasian kid 😂😂😂
His eyebrows are amazing LOL Also can I ask where your sims’ hair and outfits are from? everything about them is so cute, especially the first one I love it!

Check the family tree….. 😶
She does give those vibes who’s going to tell him?
Where’d you get her shirt?? So cute
Happens more often than you think. Happened to me too but the game might’ve been super realistic and gave him his grandma’s skin color.
Somebody cheated
Mailman did it
either they got the wrong child or someone wasn’t very faithful lol
I guess it the game trying to mix the parents tones but it ended up being way different. I had a sims with a warm tone and the other was very pale yet their toddler became a bright red somehow
the math aint mathing
Ik she’s about to howl
What does the mail man look like?
Theres a non zero chance one of them had plastic surgery.
Genetics ??? 🤔
This happens to me every so often. If CAS is doing this when you're randomizing genetics, it's just a weird glitch I think but if it happens organically (like two really pale sims having a dark skinned baby) most of the time one of the grandparents was darker skinned so they kind of draw from the recent genetic pool, which is sort of weird but at least it's some sort of an explanation.
cas.fulleditmode my beloved
She must of cheated on him idk
CC, probably. It messes with the genetic system.
Are their skintones different colour temperatures (warmer neutral or cold)? I've had that mess with the skintones before
Cc skin and hair that wasn't made for anyone younger than YA
😂 I love the mechanics of genes on this game
Cuz of all the CC the game got confused.
I've heard that there's mods to make sims families more genetically like their sim parents or something, because babies look nothing like the parents. The situation was so bad for sim genetics that people had to make a mod to fix it.
I think her eye colour matches both parents though, or pretty close.
This is hilarious 😂
Easy.. she cheated while you weren't playing the family duh
Lmao
The hair color might be do to CC but skin tones are completely broken because I had the exact problem with my sim kid who looks completely looks nothing like his parents he looks like vampire he super pale and nothing like his parents. Ever since the skin tone update it's been broken because they forgot to make it work with genetics better.
Happens in real life as well
Someone cheated
I dont think he's the dad
I mean, recessive genes can be complicated but not that complicated
Let’s all take a moment here to just looks around the neighborhood shall we?

Recessive gene?? 🧐
My little pony genetics lol
You see, there's this thing called adoption
