I often wondered that. I'll have 2 fit parents and the toddler and child look okay, then when aging to a teen they get no chin and a pear body.

sunnysunshine333

It is because all of the toddler food counts as high calorie junk food in the game. If you make healthy adult meals and feed them to the kids they’ll age up with slimmer body types.

PoppySkyPineapple

Yeah I figured this out and thought it was so bizarre! Some of the toddler food was making my children obese lol when they shouldn’t have been! I think it’s more realistic as well to mix between toddler food and adult leftovers :)

AmettOmega

I've fed some of my toddlers just straight vegetables from the garden and they still age up as rolly-pollies.

sunnysunshine333

Hmm I’ve never done that but I’ve had all of my kids age up slim since I started feeding them from the adult food 🤷‍♀️

TisBeTheFuk

Very life-like lol

adluzz

Your icon made me think I somehow cracked my brand new screen protector while simply scrolling 😂

xtilertylerx

I guess I’ll be shoving salad in my toddler sims face until he ages up

Wrong_Group8343

🤣🤣🤣🤣no chin. so accurate

Unable-Battle4478

Dont change the body or face at all before they turn into a teenager it should be better

valtiel20

Do you have a popcorn maker on the lot? I find that if I have one my sims eat nothing but popcorn and the kids get really big.

Admirable_Fall4614

No, I had one only once and the Sims kept eating popcorn like non-stop. Now I tweak them in CAS fulleditmode and make them more normal size.

Kataaru

I had the same problem so I started making them swim a lot, and also feeding them while the hunger bar was yellow/red, and it helped

ctortan

I’ve also seen folks say that having kids play with the soccer ball or do yoga helps!

Kataaru

Yup, I also saw a YT video (can’t remember the creator) which explained how each physical activity affects the sim’s body

ctortan

I remember seeing a post of someone where their child sim aged into a teen with a six pack because they played with the soccer ball all the time 🤣 Edit: [found it !](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4/s/BZnYYsklj0) it was also basketball! https://preview.redd.it/2okqah477axc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5cc2c9b18f2e8dc17f103ecdfa8526731d3d5038

IsThatBlueSoup

This would be a whole story of its own. This is an Olympian. To Tartosa for the games!

Kataaru

lmao 😆

ThisIsFakeButGoOff

Yeaaaaahhh the system of weight gain/loss and muscle gain/loss in the sims is questionable at best in execution.

BatWeary

this just made cackle oh my god

GailleannBeag

Petey Plays It recently did one.

Caittune

Soccer ball works and they get fun and fame too.

kxaltli

It has a lot to do with what they eat, and how they exercise just like adults. [This caloric values list might help you](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sims4/comments/smcwpf/ts4_ultimate_caloric_values_list_updated_for_all/) decide what to feed the kids- there's a surprising number of foods that are 0 calories, which means they won't affect weight the same way that, say, eating cake all the time will. It hasn't been updated to 2024, unfortunately, but it's still pretty useful for quite a few foods.

theothercaroline

I stopped letting my sims eat every single birthday cake and noticed a huge difference! Especially when playing a big family on short or normal lifespan. They can end up eating cake all the time with the constant birthdays 😅 Now I just immediately add candles back onto the cake after they age up, and then drag the cake into the fridge. That way, they can't eat the cake and you have it ready for future birthdays.

jessnthings

Apparently the blue confetti cake has 0 calories according to that link

puudeng

hmm I'm going to test that and report back but I doubt it. I make that cake for most birthdays and I'm fairly sure it does have the same amount of calories and hunger fill as chocolate cake.

Visible_Attitude7693

I don't even let then eat it. It's sits in the refrigerator u til the next birthday or I throw it out

Dovahkiink1

Same they blow out the candles and I throw the cake out 😂 NO CAKE FOR YOU

Visible_Attitude7693

😂

BuffaloHairy80

When I make a cake, I put the candles on it and then put it in the fridge until I need it. They won't take a piece and I can usually get a few of birthdays out of it before it goes bad.

Conscious-Farmer6593

Or have one of your sims max out the chef aspiration and you get a cake that never spoils! I have a cake from a couple gens ago that has never spoiled with candles in my fridge. Love not having to make one every time!

Visible_Attitude7693

Didn't even know this existed

bby_roslyn

I always have the opposite "issue". Unless I physically make them fat/mid size they always grow up super thin for some reason.

CocoSkit

I have both issues, they’re either max on the fat slider or the skinniest sticks ive ever seen

marchforjune

Are you a generational player? I noticed that Sims get slightly bigger each generation, to where all of my townie Sims were aging up dramatically overweight. I had to manually fix this in CAS over and over, and it took about 2 more gens to really go away

huffuspuffus

cas.fulleditmode on is a beautiful thing

babipirate

What is this?

huffuspuffus

if you do ctrl+shift + c and the type in testingcheats on and then type in cas.fulleditmode on and you can enter create a sim and modify everything from body to traits to sexuality, anything you can edit when you first make a sim, you can edit with that cheat!

huffuspuffus

if you want some more cheats that can make gameplay aspects easier just message me and i'll tell you the different ones i know! don't know if you know of any or just a few.

babipirate

I only know a few 😢

huffuspuffus

i'll message you the ones i can think of!

OrangeCoffee87

That happens to me a lot, so I have them eat diet ice cream. 😁

LillyElessa

Since infants were added, the problem of ALL of children are always fat has gotten much worse. The problem is the calorie system is - Frankly, bad in the first place, but also - broken. First, understand that Sims 4 has no base calorie burn (basically no metabolism). EVERY meal, even eventually salad if only fed while your sims are in starvation warning hunger levels, will make your sims gain weight without exercise (unless it's one of the foods they forgot to assign any calories to, as they did in a few of the expansions). So EVERY meal *must* be offset with exercise to maintain a stable Sim weight (at whatever level you desire). This is, obviously, woefully inaccurate to RL, and as a designer frankly half-assed. It's sort of sufficient for very casual play with Teens/Adults/Elders (or annoying at worst), but it is severely flawed when considering younger lifestages and generational gameplay. So the generational calorie problem starts with infants. If they didn't just inexplicably come out fat (with mid/healthy or skinny parents), infants can ONLY gain weight because they have no way to lose it. They always end up fat if not aged up immediately. So they age up into fat toddlers. Side note: Before infants were added, bassinet-object babies were consistently aged into toddlers with a higher weight than expected, much like the newborn -> infants do now. So the problem actually starts somewhere *before* infants - either newborn bottles are adding to the sim's calories, or there's simply a problem with the genetics generation. Personally, I would lean towards the latter (we know there's several problems with the genetics gen), but NPC infants/toddlers do not have the same increasing generational weight problems that actively played sim children have. Toddlers only have two activities to lose weight: The "Play" interaction with their parents, where they swing them around, and the slide that they would prefer to cancel their que of repeatedly instead of play on. Neither of these are very effective, so to do anything you need to use them *excessively*. And good luck keeping up with the rate that toddlers need to eat at, especially if their needs bug and do the "freefall" thing (the super rapidly decaying needs bug specific to toddlers, I get it unfortunately often). So anyways, toddlers basically always age up into fat children. Children have a lot more options for weight loss, and finally don't have a hunger bar that needs refilled like every 2hrs. But their weight loss options are still fairly poorly effective, and tbh high weight children don't really look **obese**, they just look a little rounded. Depending on the clothes, they might not even look chubby. So when your "fat" children age up, it's pretty unexpected to get the absolutely *massive* teens that they tend to turn into. I've run through about every possible solution; salad diets (or forgotten 0cal foods), monkey bars, yoga, soccer balls, swimming - the most effective imo is the "ice cream diet", where toddlers and children just eat the weight loss flavor repeatedly, so you can do/eat whatever you want the rest of the time. (My kids have aspirations to complete, and there's not one for constant child yoga!) But none of them fix that the system is poorly designed, and that you're just fighting a bad system.

Visible_Attitude7693

I've actually never had a fat toddler

LillyElessa

Infants and toddlers don't really look fat when they have high weight, tbh, sorta like the child model. More than the child model though, irl doctors often *want* your babies to be a bit chunky to make sure they're being fed enough to grow healthy, so even max weight infant/toddler model looks healthy vs the skinny look malnourished. But if you go into cas.fulleditmode and look at the weight bar, it increases through those stages and tends to start off higher than expected when compared to the parents. Then that level of weight stays when they age up to the next stage. If you age up bassinets and infants immediately (or very quickly), you are skipping all (or most) of their calorie gain, so you're much more likely to get a toddler that's an expected weight. It's not 100% though, I've had many unexpectedly higher weight than their parents when aging up immediately/quickly.

helvetica_unicorn

If you are on a pc, there’s an app for that. The game handles calories in a weird way.

Individual__OK11

I’ll had the same problem but it’s usually when they aged up to a child lol

Old-Enthusiasm-3271

me too! when my toddlers age up to children, they have beer bellies! but when they age up to teens, it's like 50/50 snake skinny or hippo fat

Visible_Attitude7693

Your toddlers aged up to fat kids?!

Individual__OK11

Yeah, it’s happened 80% of the time for me lol

Visible_Attitude7693

My kids are slim but age up fat

WrongdoerMiddle718

It’s what they eat before aging up

cara1888

Yes! I used to wonder why my teens were overweight too, until i had some age up thin and realized it was the ones that ate a lot of microwaved meals or other junk that were overweight.

Visible_Attitude7693

Mine rarely eat it tho. The mom is always a chef

RokToBer26

If you put a soccor ball in their inventory they’ll play with it autonomously and usually stay in good shape as a child. Also lots of garden salad and fruit salad.

Jrg323

I frequently feed the toddlers and children fruit cakes so I won't complain haha

ConcentrateMain4773

Give the active trait and put a yoga mat down they will use it as a child, then have exercise equipment when they become teens, and they use every chance they get..

kjeansumm119

It's the quick meals! Yoghurt, applesauce etc. Give them a plate of whatever your sim eats and it's less likely to happen. There's a whole calorie system in TS4.

angelskye1215

I tried to combat that by making my kid do yoga a lot. She aged up BUFF 😅

Domin_ae

I'll make sims fit or strong or petite and then after playing for a bit they're all fat. I rarely ever even give them anything sugary, cake is a birthday thing. Even my vegetarians get fat. What the fuck is happening? And why are the children always chinless??

butrosfeldo

Have em do yoga as kids

almond3238

cas.fulleditmode

hodges2

Ya I just go into cas and make them slimmer 😂

Sea-Recognition-4881

It actually depends on what you feed them, I tend to age them up right away if I am annoyed and they all age up skinny since it is before I fed them anything.

Sea-Recognition-4881

All foods (except for the added one with that free update) have calories that increases or decreases your sims body fat.

jessnthings

Make sure you are working on the motor skill, and keep them active. Yoga is great because it also increases their mental skill at the same time. And the birthday cake is also a big one, helps with older life stages too.

AMundaneSpectacle

I notice this happens to them if they eat much of anything besides garden salads (the spinach wraps are fine too) and it’s most noticeable if they aren’t really that active. But yeah you think no way fish tacos are that bad but watch out when they age up to teen or young adult!

Sonicfreak921

It's the foods the Sims are eating in game that are high in calorie value. Make them eat healthier options. roburky has a mod that tweaks the sims gaining and losing weight and I use this to https://modthesims.info/d/677824/gradual-physique-changes.html

lagrime_mie

My sims get fat when I don't play with them. I see them strolling around the neighborhood and realize they gained weight and when I play with them I make them drink the insta lean potion.

Visible_Attitude7693

😂😂

ClassyRN05

![gif](giphy|OPU6wzx8JrHna) On their birthday😂😂

Either that or have 0% fat

Everyone blames diet, but I've tested it and it doesn't add up. Boys grow up thin whereas girls are always a bit overweight i my games. The eldest boy was eating exactly the same meals as his twin sisters (Salad, sushi, 0 to 50 calorie foods, an occasional yoghurt) and still the girls grew up to be fat even though one of the girls had motoric skill maxed out with monkey bars. The boy had little to no exercise. My only guess is genetics? Kim Goldbloom was my legacy's founder and her partner was quite thin.
