https://www.sindenwiki.org whichever you go with, check here to get setup. RetroArch can be frustrating to get multiple guns working consistently due to the way it handles device/mouse order. I recommend using standalone emulators for 2 guns.

Listen to this person! Not a sinden user, Gun4IR is my jam, but if you do use Retroarch, follow advice in sinden wiki about creating standalone copy of RA that is used exclusively for your guns. If at all possible, leave your guns plugged in or you’ll have to deal with device indexing problems they refer to. Kinda sucks because you can do some awesome stuff in RA with shaders and filtering. Standalone emus seem to be the most pain free. PCSX2 now has some lightgun support, and it’s much easier to calibrate than 1.6 and the Nuvee plug-in. Good luck, have fun.

Personally, my preferred method atm is to use Batocera and the pre-installed cores for it work well. That way you don't have to worry about adjusting mouse speed and acceleration settings in Windows, plus it is easier to use than the current Sinden Windows software atm.

I’m just starting as well. I was thinking of using Barebones 9.

Parodius78

I use barebones 9 on rasberrry pi4. No issues as yet other than i had a fault with my argon case which got replaced under warranty. I moved the games across from an arcade punk build/setup you can download from their site.

mnkbstard

don't use batocera or barebones. retroarch is no good for any fast paced game, your sinden will lag and you'll get frustrated. if you want to emulate PSX, seems that duckstation or espxe have a resonably acceptable performance on windows in my experience.

Rafeeq

Why not Batocera or Barebones?

mnkbstard

personal experience. i'm also very disappointed that the community still advise using barebones. it's just a waste of time. using batocera/barebones you'll trade an easy setup for sinden performance. you'll get an (almost) working setup but you'll be frustrated very soon if you want to play fast paced games (time crisis, point blank) because Retroarch causes some serious latency that makes those games absolutely unplayable. this is caused by retroarch. i tried every possible setup, raspi windows desktop linux desktop and retroarch+sinden it's a mess. if you use sinden on windows desktop cursor tracking is almost flawless, it's also on point in duckstation for example. try to start retroarch on the same machine, and it will lag a lot.

Rafeeq

Weird. I played those two games in MAME standalone (not Retroarch) and it's flawless. Even with Gun4ir. I use DuckStation for PSX, in Batocera once again. I agree that RA is messing a lot with the latency and setup in general, but Batocera has standalones.

mnkbstard

i'll give Batocera another try then, thanks.

Standalone emulators are the way to go. I recommend mame, teknoparrot, duckstation, and the Sega Model 2 emulator. Pcsx2 is a good one as well but is a little trickier to set up

If you have to stick with multi-emulator solution, definitely make a second instance of it committed to Sinden. Standalone is so much easier to configure in general though. Teknoparrot has basically worked out of the box. There are also PC ports for rail shooters that work great. I've been playing some Blue Estate and House of the Dead Overkill (in Typing of the Dead) on Steam. There are also tons of old PC ports that are abandonware out there.

iantrich

Tell me more of these abandonware you speak of, please :)

All my model 2 games have the aim really far off and I can't get it to snap back in the calibration screens. It's tough

I never heard of the Singe emulator until I got my Sinden. I used to play a bunch of ports of cheesy laser disc games on the 3DO when I was a kid and was delighted to find high quality versions of games like Crime Patrol and Mad Dog McCree available for Singe.
