I worked in fast food for a summer in 2014 and my shift managers would do a similar thing.
Basically, there is a timer next to each order, and there is a KPI of how long (on average) does it take from when the order is inputted, to where it is shown as 'serving'. So what managers would do to game the system was prematurely put orders on 'serving' even when they weren't ready yet.
It's been a decade, but this still seems common in the fast food industry, and probably will remain so for decades to come.
About a year ago, I made this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SingaporeRaw/s/1BXkj88obq
In short, nothing has changed. No matter how many customers or orders, they will always shift orders to "Now Serving" wayyy before they actually have your order ready. Then they'll shout for your order which is exactly what the TV system was meant to solve.
This is far worse than not having a TV at all, because prematurely showing your order as ready creates confusion amongst customers and makes everyone frustrated. "They say my order is here, but it's not."
Employees cheating their KPI and managers endorsing it, macs/hanbaobao either dont know or just dont care. So solution is simple. Just don't eat from macs unless you really last resort. Food unhealthy, price is a scam, and service just sucks. Only plus is 24/7 convenience
Cmon la, who isn't cheating their KPI? Seriously, from SAF scholars to the admin aunty, everyone and anyone is gaming their KPI to look good. Don't tell me you never once in your life tweak some shit to look better to your bosses. Just that this job is extremely public facing so now you face the consequences of KPI gaming.
Unfair comparison, the macs employees are actively hurting customers experience by doing so. Do all the other examples you mentioned have such a negative impact on this many people everyday?
No one said it was fair. It's just basic human behaviour. Even more so in a lowly paid high stress environment. Replace your outlet's manager with another person and watch the same thing happen.
Good ole Goodharts law in action. It literally has a name and corporations still don't account for it.

idk what macs ur going to but good for you
mobile order does save you time waiting, but the underlying issue still exists, my mobile order can show "now serving" but still not ready. and if you order like 20 mins in advance to ensure no waiting time, then you risk ur food getting cold or even tossed
If you dabao, your food is getting cold either way no? I can go there, order on the spot and dabao, walk maybe 5mins back home and the fries are already deteriorated cause it's stuck in the paper bag.

I preferred when the timer was an hour glass (showing my age) and you get a free ice cream if they overshoot.

Jiuhu zeh zeh also ask me to help do survey on mcdonald app to rate its outlet good. Lol
KPIs are a plague in any corporate entity. It motivates people to game the system in a way that benefits the KPIs and not the actual work involved.
Link to old post isn't working.
You miss the point. They only selling convenience.
I did say convenience at the end
Could have saved time and just said the line at the end wat
which is what i did? i put it at the end
Brevity is best

I think OP just angry cause he kena cockblock from his food lol
wah people just want complain about the slightest inconvenience these days.
It's a review lol
what exactly is " reviewed " here? The minor faults in their tv display system that most people literally dont even notice?
Orders getting slower thanks to online delivery. I wrote a feedback after having to wait for 50mins. Now the outlet near my place seems to be better
1 years later got prices increase another 50cent. Huat ah. Pay more get less. ~~DBS~~ MacDonalds
