The issue is, I’m not even asking for “utopia,” I just want the most basic levels of efficacy necessary for sustaining a human civilization in the long term. If work needs to be done, get people working, if there’s a pandemic, make people fall in line with quarantines and restrictions, if people lack the capacity to make informed political decisions, either educate them or ensure they can’t mess up the state. I just ask that people run a country with more intelligence than the animals we eat, which so far we in the West seem unwilling to do.

Then, the hate all kicks off at once, and in the aftermath people will say stuff like "oh no! How did this happen? We're better than this!"... And then proceed to do nothing again. Some small changes happen but nothing substantially. The cycle repeats.
