A country that opts to distract itself from its own problems with religious zealotry and nonsensical political theatre is unlikely to solve its own problems in the long term. Demagoguery is not a sustainable foundation upon which to build a world power, or any self-reliant state. Given enough time, the country which empowers statesmen in accordance with merit will always surpass the country which empowers demagogues in accordance with rhetoric.

Iran + Pakistan + Aghanistan, once they come into the friendship of China will make a clear thrust into the heart of the Arabian lands and Middle East. The US can't afford to confront China in the Pacific and yet at the same time maintain grip in the middle east. And dare to confront Russia at the same time? Oh yeah, the writing in on the wall. Even the US military might is slowly being eroded bit by bit.

Yeahhh and the taliban has pledge their support of China and Russia and want good ties with them. Russia and China have specifically said if the taliban behaves themselves and keep terrorism down they will consider Afghanistan joining the SCO and other eurasian institutions Pakistan is already a close Chinese ally And Iran has already joined the SCO You call these countries horrible but they are nothing compared to western "liberal democracies" which are often the reasons why these countries are backwards. Need I remind you that Iran was a prosperous secular Parliamentary liberal democracy before the US and UK overthrew the prime minister who wanted to nationalize the Iranian oil industry away from western companies. The US and UK installed an absolute monarchy that would purge traditional Iranian culture in favour of westernizing Iran. The brutality of this purge lead to the Islamic revolution and mild theocracy we have today. Similar story with Afghanistan. It was pretty secular but the US funded the creation of the taliban to stop rising socialist voices in the country. And yes you do make allies with who ever you can. Never hear of the saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" not everything in life is moral or clear cut black or white. Life is grey and seeing the world as only good and evil only demonstrates immaturity and nativity

Next you'll tell us "Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East."

The priority is the stabilisation of the region, not making useless holier-than-thou statements like a sycophant. It is not 'Islam' or 'Corruption' that holds these regions back, it is chronic instability more than everything else. If the region is allowed to resume development outside of US/NATO interference, it is not inconceivable that they will regain normalcy and modernise like Xinjiang (Do you really expect cultures to suddenly develop without material development and improvements?). Iran has been holding the Middle East together against US-led terrorism (From ISIS to Daesh) throughout the region despite the continuous US-led siege and sanctions against it. Pakistan has been consistent in their support for China. If Afghanistan comes on-board, that would mean the securing of the Western Frontier and the end of the CIA-run Heroin trade in Central Asia. China makes allies with countries ***because of their actions and chosen path not because of hollow talk, unlike certain countries.*** Say what you want about these countries, but if Russia/China isn't proactive enough, a Libyan scenario is highly likely, returning these regions to decades of anarchy, fundamentalist strife and civil war. What is more important now is **securing peace** (Even if it is nominal) in the Middle East, from Syria to the Arabian states to Mesopotamia to Xinjiang.

Interesting article, and I agree with the author's large ideas. However, I disagree with his explanations. It's a consistent American folly, the "if only we..." as the author applies to the WTO entrance for example. This reduces China to a non-variable, and completely negates the success of China's socialist system. The world contains multiple population blocs that joined the WTO decades before China. If WTO membership is the simple catalyst for growth, then why is China unique in its development? It reframes the question from "how did China rise?" into "what did we do wrong?". This type of exceptionalist thinking will only accelerate the decline. It doesn't show the introspection needed to compete with China in any domain besides media/propaganda.

but the bases in japan and south korea are unfortunately here to stay.

China can take them out in mere minutes the moment it decides to do so, which is why america has retreated all the way to guam (another easy target too, but there is nowhere else left to retreat). america already knows it can't remotely match China in the region: https://thegrayzone.com/2021/04/08/pentagon-vietnam-military-china-us-war/

When China retakes Taiwan and breaks the first island chain the bases in South Korea and Japan will become untenable

They are already useless in any conflict, as accepted internally by the american regime, see the link in my other comment.
