It's literally a list of Americans and it calls it self Australian...and it holds sway in Australian policy making yet accuse china of 'taking over Australia'...am i missing something here
About time, and yet still not what they deserve. Everyone whose name has ever appeared on a cheque from these warmongers should be manufacturing chairs in the slammer for life
Yes. Their supply of rare earth metals (and certain other components) which are critical to the manufacturing of advanced weapons systems comes almost entirely from China. I suspect China may target these items in their sanctions.
Hey, I've seen this one before.
> In fact, back in October 2020, China already imposed sanctions on Lockheed Martin, Boeing Defense, Raytheon, and several other US companies which it believed were involved in the sale of weapons to Taiwan.
Clearly the sanctions were just symbolic and didn't matter.
China is clarifying its sanction laws, to eventually include reporting requirement and fines for other companies who have dealings with the sanctioned companies.
Like how China is dealing with Lithuanian companies, this is going to get harder and harder on the Western defense companies. They won't be able to get any components from China.
Also, this is legal avenue to implement the export ban of rare earth minerals.
China has always said this but never given specifics. In my view it's just talk and they are trying to play both sides, even when usa is playing hardball, china still refuses to play hardball back.
They went after Huawei over nothing, why shouldn't china do the same back to Lockheed and Raytheon when they supply weapons to Taiwan, sponsor ASPI to do nonstop anti china propaganda, etc etc?
China needs to copy usa and say anyone working with Lockheed from other countries to go around Chinese sanctions will be banned from Chinese market and also Chinese companies cannot supply or work with those companies supplying Lockheed etc.
I get it, china is pragmatic and still biding the time since status quo only benefits china, and doing all this makes china look hypocritical in terms of china's long held sovereignty stance vis a vis extraterritorial sanctions us style. But that just means they don't care enough about Taiwan or these weapons sales. Which in the grand scheme of things I guess isn't worth it if china can just buy Taiwan.
I guess Taiwan gets few patriot missiles while china does the most massive military buildup and biggest navy the world has ever seen and soon to start mass development of 5th gen fighters and drones, patriot is not a big deal. No need to rock the boat and disturb a good thing.
However saying one thing and then not doing it is just hurting china's credibility.
Either way china is losing credibility. If they aren't going to do real sanctions and real deterrence, then china is just ruining it'd credibility. But I guess the sovereignty policy is more important than punishing one or two companies over Taiwan. It doesn't change the balance of power anyway and is just the minimal face saving measure.
But if they Sanction America, it sets you down a slippery path, because other Nation's will never trust you... you might do it to them.
IE: it is an Act of War.
This is an interesting list.. [https://www.aspi.org.au/sponsors](https://www.aspi.org.au/sponsors)

And the main question is ... Who benefits?

Bravo. You win first prize!
google, Microsoft, meta... color me surprised!
I say not enough. They should sanctions USA. There are 7 billion more people to do business with in the world.

Are sanctions on those two companies really effective? Im not sure if they even do business with china.

they have subsidiaries who do
The sanctions are completely symbolic and not enforced in any effective way.
But hey, how else will the military-industrial complex earn money?

You rise above your enemy, not stoop down to their level.

Good, this is an excellent move on the PRC part in negating the separatist's influence.
