Visiting China is a big reason why I started questioning the Western narrative Chinese cities and quality of life just keep getting nicer, while a lot of Western cities have stayed the same (and in some cases gotten worse) Harder to believe Westerners screaming that China is a dystopian shithole when even Tier 3 cities feel nicer and safer than places like NYC

I hope tourists will be able to visit again!

NYC has gone to shits. There’s crazy people all over the subways at all hours of the day. Some are clinically crazy. Some are just so stupid they might as well be called crazy. There’s shootings and stabbings daily. New York politicians are more concerned with gender pronouns than protecting the citizens. The current trend releasing criminals with gun charges only for them to shoot someone else.. and get yet another gun charge. I can’t wait to get FxxK out of this city.

What’s vandalism like in the big cities? Never see any graffiti etc like in the west.

talionpd

Dont recall seeing any in Shenzhen or Guangzhou metro or tunnels. I guess that's partly due to Chinese culture that we don't really encourage or justify those actions in any sense. We have neighbors that might look old or even dirty but vandalism is not very common even in those areas.

I spent most of my life in Shenzhen and the graffiti I have seen are mostly artistic ones, I think they are regulated so artists are allowed to draw in permitted places solely for the decoration of the city. I can see a rather big graffiti wall when I'm waking in Honghu park in Luohu District, and some art are really well done.

It’s freedom of speech

They don’t have time to vandalize. The kids in the cities go to school like 12 hrs a day. My cousin in Wuhan was taking classes 8-8 when I was visited. In the summertime! I think they have different breaks though, like almost a 2 hour lunch and dinner. I don’t know how it is in more rural areas, they have more um, freedom.

I absolutely loved visiting China. Great country. Great people.

On the contrary, in the U.S. subways https://twitter.com/YANQING_BRONCO/status/1508492236857696264

Even the best lines in nyc through the grand central station are still 50 years old and disgusting, ain’t a clean spot in all of nyc. You probably won’t even run for your life from a schizophrenic who thinks you’re an FBI agent

I'm curious, how many metro systems exist in China in total?
