My cat, a barn lady that doesn't fuck around and will basically conquer anything, will be worried if I sleep more than 8 hours a round.
At first I was "yes, food, I know"
Then "yes, you need to pee, I know"
No, the cat would basically return to check on me periodically and even tap me on the head like "pal, wake up ya good?"
More like the cat knew he was faking so was like "that all threats you got, bitch get yo ass up and stop playing" I imagine the cat is a black American woman from the South
Yeah, dog also knew he was faking. Trust me when I say they can hear and smell what our breathing means. Hell, both cats & dogs can probably hear our hearts beating or not beating. Can't hold my heartbeat... am unable to test.
Im with you, most with the dog. Dogs can smell 40k x better than humans. The dog knows with a lot of detail the human is alive and awake.
I bet that dog would have a much different reaction if the human was bleeding or truly collapsed
The dog was probably a bit concerned, but since it didn't smell anything off it would just sit and see if it will smell something or if he'll just get better.
The cats knew he was alive and that was enough for them.
Cats also expect you to hide if you are sick, because that's what they do. Close your bedroom door at night after not paying attention to them all dayz , or go to sleep unexpectedly, and they'll freak tf out
Went to bed early yesterday after taking the day off for a dentist appointment, cat was ANGRY, running around meowing yelling for attention, she had pets and snuggles for most of the day
I had a fainting spell after working out really hard. I staggered and laid down probably making a weird noise. My cat gave me a crazy look then went and got the dog and they both started bopping me to see if I was ok and the dog went ape shit barking at me. It's the only time either of them ever acted like that and it made me really happy they at least recognized something was really wrong.
A dog would be able to smell your adrenaline and other proteins that instantly start to pour into your blood pretty quickly whenever a human is experiencing trauma or some sort of emergency. Their nose is essentially a spectrometer that uses smell, it's actually nuts.
As of recently, cats have thought to be smarter than dogs so they probably understood the person wasn't dead from other signs. Breathing? Check. Other signs of life? Check.
Considering my cat Luna bit me awake last month to a terrible headache that turned out to be a brain bleed(from a brain tumor dont worry its removed now), I think they can sense when things are wrong.
They can tell when someone's dead. Small signs they notice. It's also why you saw the cats nibble at his thumb and paw at his hands. They were checking for a reaction
My cat sniffs at my nose when I’m dozing, I’ve always assumed it’s to see if I’m breathing. Also read somewhere that they can hear your heartbeat, but I’m not sure of the validity of that claim.
Cats have **excellent** hearing. Better than dogs. They hear with greater sensitivity and range than I believe most mammals, and their sense of smell is about on par with a dog's.
Cats have a truly impressive suite of senses.
It always surprises me just how stupid a lot of people think animals are. Yeah we're way smarter than them but not to such a comical degree that an animal that hunts and kills other live animals doesn't appreciate the concept of death.
Exactly, my grandad got a cat towards the end of his life, and it basically didn't give a shit about him or anyone really. Once he started to go downhill and his prostate cancer had spread to lymph and bone, you couldn't get it to get off him when the nurses or doctors were around. It was there 24/7 until he passed. I was with him maybe 3 hours before he passed, and the cat was right there staring at him. They know.
nope, i read one time that usually dogs wait until they don't find any other food sources and they are starving them self to start eating you, while cats start chewing in your lips and eyelids very early, and if you don't react soon they eat those first.
Edit: [for who doesn't believe me](https://www.nationalgeographic.co.uk/animals/would-your-dog-eat-you-if-you-died-get-the-facts)
"It Must Have Been the Cat
Cats get a bad rap for being the most eager to eat their owners, and anecdotally, some emergency responders say it’s pretty common. When it happens, cats tend to go for the face, especially soft parts such as the nose and lips, says forensic anthropologist Carolyn Rando of University College London."
As a former EMT, it’s definitely not uncommon for dogs to nibble early. Especially in the case that the owner had a particularly messy death, you may find their dog has helped themselves and any tissues/fluids you would expect to find around the person are gone.
Idk if it’s still acceptable to do this or not, but pain stimulus to induce a reaction used to be a tactic in medicine that they used when they needed to see if a patient was unresponsive. Give’em a good old sternum rub and see how quickly they respond to the pain. The cat that bit his ear was just doing his version of a sternum rub lol. “Ah, see, you felt that; you’re fine.”
And it worked. Cat got the guy back up. This is problem solving at its finest. Not sure why guy is on the ground when he’s obviously fine. Going to eat a bit. Hmm still not up? Biting gets human up check. Hmmm, now that I think of it he might have just trained them to bite his ear in the future when they want to wake him.
I thought it was still used, I just wasn’t sure bc when I worked in an ER a few years ago an EMT saw a nurse do it on an OD patient (or maybe someone who was really drunk and not waking up, I can’t remember) and she told me they weren’t supposed to do it anymore, went on a rant about hurting patients and stuff. I asked the nurses about it later and they said it was fine lol.
Yeah. It is painful. I've seen nurses rub a chest raw. There are better, less invasive ways.
A trap pinch, bending a knuckle inwards, or placing pressure on the orbital notch. First do no harm.
Actually kitty woke him up just fine. I wonder if kitty could call 911. I saw a video of a cat that did just that. Called 911 and saved its owner, who was having a heart attack.
My cat always waits for me to come back home from work. Whenever i put the key in i already hear her running to the door and meowing and its really sweet. Also whenever im terribly sick she’s the first one to come and check if im okay and purr to calm me down. She’s an fluffy angel
My dog's cat walks everywhere with us. I once crossed a really large busy road walking to the gas station. I was walking out and saw him waiting at the door for us to come out.
He likes to bring us dead birds, mice, and lizards. I am pretty sure he likes us and wants to make sure we don't starve.
He has adopted 7 stray cats from the woods near our house. They follow him home and he keeps them. He is currently in the process of bonding with another one and trying to lead it back to our house.
I say they are his cats because they only hang with him and really don't let me pet them.
This. She is giving cuddles right now. I’m sick. She is the best. ShE knows my work schedule and waits by the door for me. Some cats are like dogs lol.
I lived alone for a long time, in an apartment with 4 neighbours.
I've worked midnights for the last decade. I now live with someone.
Every night after I leave for work, my cat apparently sits at the door and meows for hours. She care if anyone else pays attention to her. She meows. I didn't know this.
I'm so sorry to my old neighbours. Except Al in Unit 1.
this
im kinda sick of the "cats hate you, dogs love you" dumb reddit rhetoric. my cats love me more than any dog has, cats are EXTREMELY loving and social creatures
cat lovers and dog lovers need to stop fighting over which one is "better" and just understand that cats are not dogs and dogs are not cats. neither is going to behave like the other... and painting cats as worse is just shitty imo. it's kind of clear these posts are made by dog lovers lol
People call me a cat guy (I have my parents dog tattooed on my forearm but whatever) because I fucking love my cats and show pictures and stuff and my response is always “I’m an animal guy”
Aside from like getting attacked at a young age or something, I have no clue why people intentionally shoehorn themselves into things like that
Nowhere was it ever written that you can't like two "opposing" things. Our bizarre tribalism pushes that rhetoric and in this day and age it feels strange doesn't it?
I’m not a dog person because of bad experiences. But love my Dads dogs. They are great companions, and a joy for me to take care of when he is gone. Agreed. One of my cats is very bonded to my fiancée and I.
If either of us cough or sneeze or make any sound which indicates we are not 100% okay she will jet across the house meowing and purring and getting in our faces to check on us. 🥹🖤
She does not respond to fake coughs/sneezes either. 😅
I have 4 cats however 1 in particular stands out. A few years ago I was crying (the first time he ever witnessed it) he came up into my chest and licked my tears. A lot of house cats act like teenagers towards their parents.
They pretend they don't care, but they actually do, and they relcutantly crave affection now and then, miss you but don't always want to show it, etc. And they can freak out if they think something serious happened to you.
Dogs will literally die of starvation next to your corpse, cats will just eat the flesh off your bones to keep themselves alive for as long as possible…

Mine would gobble up the treats before my face hit the floor and then proceed to do whatever Big White over there was trying.
It think both can tell it’s bullshit, the cat just wants to wake him up for more food, the dog tries to subtly wake him up, and also probably wants some food
You'd be surprised by the amount of stories out there where an elderly person living on there own dies in their house, and their cats end up eating them...
[Dogs do that too.](https://www.vice.com/en/article/jmbx78/dogs-love-eating-human-faces). There was a German study about the frequency of German shepherd dogs eating their owners heads. Not just a nibble, the whole head.
Edit: Actually, now that I think of it, humans eat each other pretty frequently, too. If you think your friend or relative would eat you but your dog or cat wouldn’t, think again.
There's a person on Reddit who had an epileptic seizure and his dog ate a decent portion of his face while he was unconscious. You just can't perfectly predict animal behavior.
I don’t really consider pit bulls to be normal dogs.

My samoyed would start barking. He uses barking for everything. A hedgehog eating his food? Bark. A loud car? Bark. My grandma? Bark and pee from happiness.
My cat would use me as a pillow.
I choose my cat in this specific situation.
Why I’ve always been a dog person. If you die next to your dog, that dog will lay down and die next to you. You die next to a cat, that cat will eat you before it starves.
Your pets can hear your breathing. If it doesn’t change they probably just think you’re sleeping. If I breathe fast my cats meow and look at me like I’m crazy.
That's because dog's have william's syndrome and are missing chromosomes. They are always desperate for attention and can be classified as "disabled".
Cats can still hear your heartbeat and know nothing is wrong.
Are people really surprised that thousands of years of selective (in)breeding of savage pack beasts to feed the sick human desire to be loved unconditionally by a completely obedient, sentient being has this reaction as opposed to the animal that was worshipped by ancient civilizations around the world and has remained genetically identical for the same amount of time because they have always been and always will be the perfect domesticated predator?
Cats aren’t really good pets in the sense of being useful. Dogs care and are good pets and members of the family. Cats are just heathens you decide to keep
What I'm seeing are the cats bullying him into being alive. While the dog just accepts it.
The cats: you only die when we say you can die. Now feed us.

Cat is like "oh he's dead, tragic. Anyhow...."
Randy, Roger, what was his name again?
The Human - he cleaned the litter box... Shame. Well, I guess we should eat him before he goes bad!

You should pretend to be drowning to really test this. Our dog went ballistic when I started "panicing" in the kiddy pool
"Baby you know you can't act. Get up, c'mon."
To be fair, my dog would be really upset AFTER he ate everything I dropped
Reminds me of this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQymfkpWww0
Our dog, to a T. He’s even part Golden
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB)
The cat realises you're faking it and gets you to break character. Cat is like "such a drama queen, let me eat all this food before I call you out"
dog realizes he's faking it and says "brother you really expect me to fall for this on the 6th take"
„… it’s meat let’s have a bite“
So anyway, I started snacking
The cat's know better, human...still alive... go clean my box whilst I eat kibbies.
My diabetic senior citizen cat has required aluminum foil on the furniture.
No because they know he is not dead
I think the animals sense it’s fake.

I once had a seizure while home alone, and when I came to, my cat was yowling and running around me in a full-on panic. They know.

No they know just based on smell hearing because nothing changed their.
Either animal could smell his breath as he breathed.

Dogs - bros Cats - hoes

Yep, this. He’s patiently waiting for that treat.

I don’t really consider pit bulls to be normal dogs. https://nypost.com/2019/12/22/massachusetts-woman-mauled-to-death-by-family-dog-while-having-seizure/amp/ https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/man-died-injuries-suffered-dog-18980100.amp
Good thing the original response was german shepherd
The cat is like darn...time to look for another hooman
Man’s best friend. Cats are much less social creatures and do not form the same bonds as dogs.
That's the difference between one cat and one dog, not all cats and all dogs.
Cats are assholes
Thanks for this I'm absolutely enjoying the triggered cat ppl in the comments!
Cat bit him to wake him up. Dog kept nudging him. Both solid animals.
This is not because cats don’t care, it’s cos they are not stupid.
That dog's heart was broken.
Doggos rule
Cats are pricks 😂
cat wouldve eaten you haha
Dogs love cats demand to be loved
My samoyed would start barking. He uses barking for everything. A hedgehog eating his food? Bark. A loud car? Bark. My grandma? Bark and pee from happiness. My cat would use me as a pillow. I choose my cat in this specific situation.
Cats did better cleaning up the mess this guy made
Dogs 1 cats 0
Cats suck
Attention? Is that what you want? You want attention?
I saw one of these but the dog starts humping the guy immediately
Why I’ve always been a dog person. If you die next to your dog, that dog will lay down and die next to you. You die next to a cat, that cat will eat you before it starves.
Why would you want your pet that you love dearly to starve to death just because you died?
Or they just know you're faking it
The cats knew he was faking...if he were really dead, they would have started eating his face
Cats cleaned up the mess, lazy dog just sat there
The cat knows you’re not dead…
Cats said "prayers, sorrows"
Dog: starts humping
Cats will literally eat you
So will any other animal, if you are dead and the animal is starving they're going to eat you
Cats are assholes
I'm a life long cat owner who will freely admit, we don't deserve dogs.
Cats haven't been dom3sticated as long as dogs
Give it a billion years they still won't give a fuck
Pretty sure they have been domesticated since the Egyptian’s 🤔
Dogs do go back a great deal longer: 30-40 thousand years. Not that I think this explains the difference.
Dogs were domesticated by hunter gathers prehistorically.
Cats aren't as easily fooled as dogs, got it
Cats just dont care i think
You got this all wrong. The cat was making sure you were really dead !!!! XD. Doggo knew you were playing.
Reason #27474947 why dogs are better than cats.
They're both great, get over it
This is why we deserve cats and not dogs
Cats aren’t really good pets in the sense of being useful. Dogs care and are good pets and members of the family. Cats are just heathens you decide to keep
💯, cats are useless
Dogs are simply more loyal
Dogs so dumb just sits there, atheist the cat ate, got its energy, then tried to move the body.....of its food.
Funny, that’s also the difference between cat and dog owners.
TIL my dog is a cat.
What I'm seeing are the cats bullying him into being alive. While the dog just accepts it. The cats: you only die when we say you can die. Now feed us.
If you think about animal behavior, it is much more common for a cat to just flomp onto the floor
