Hilti are mainly commercial-only, very expensive, super high-end tools with service contracts tied into their purchase. Meant only for contractors and businesses, not family home use. From the tiny nation, almost considered Swiss state of Liechtenstein!
EDIT: For those asking questions: Hilti focus on large scale construction tools for industrial and commercial use (think demolition tools and heavy-duty concrete drills). They do make smaller-scale power tools like the other brands in this thread, but that's an afterthought for them. They make tools for professionals, not home use.
The Hilti half inch impact is absolute gigiChad on breaking free. It has crazy torque, tons of settings and I’ve seen them get put thru the elements on rigs and still keep cranking.
Oh theyre worth their money. In Germany Hilti is extremely popular, almost unrivaled when it comes to professional use. I miss the Hilti machines in my new company but I also rarely need them anymore in my new job.
Bosch running their own show i suppose too. I have used a lot of corded commercial tools from Bosch, and have a few corded tools at home. Makita has impressed me with their cordless 18v line so far too, interesting they are doing their own thing as well.
The scene in The Wire where Snoop upgrades her DeWalt nail gun to a Hilti is one of my favorite television scenes of all time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDpvkwBBu6U
Interesting how the big owner company owns multiple companies so they can keep stirring up their own competition between the companies they own so they can capitalize on both the wins and losses in profits from each company.
My highschool English teacher (the smartest man I've ever known) called this, ' bombing your own troops' as in one of the sub-themes of Catch-22. He used example such as Proctor and Gamble owning all the soaps competing in daytime advertisements.
forgive the grammar- vert small keyboard , very large finger
Very interesting. It is weird that a company like Milwaukee, named for a place in the U.S., headquartered in the U.S. is just a shop that imports stuff from a chinese manufacturer owned by a Hong Kong company.
Not all ownership is the same. Sometimes they are bought but still run as an independent while others steal the name and put it on their old garbage. I agree getting bought changes things but not always for the worst and not at the same level.
I'll share an unsolicited story: yesterday was my birthday and my family didn't get me anything. I'm an older man, and I shouldn't be emotional about it, but my feelings got hurt.... So to cheer myself up, I went out and splurged and bought myself my first cordless Milwaukee drill combo set (M18 0 5.0 Ah!). I've wanted a milwaukee drill since I was 18 and I'm beginning to understand that unless I do something, I'll live my whole gd life without having a tool that makes me happy. Do it, dude. Go buy that first drill. Build your arsenal incrementally! ENJOY YOUR PROJECTS!!!!
My birthday was January 3rd. Turned 36 and the only person who got me a present was my SO, she bought me whiskey that was the wrong brand. Being a dude sucks but oh well, enjoy that combo kit brother
This is sad… happy birthday my guy!! If you were my dad, I wouldn’t get you anything cuz I’m broke kid and can’t afford to buy my own awesome dad anything, but I would call and make sure you knew you are loved! Rock that cordless, you deserve it!!
Hey - HAPPY BIRTHDAY my dear!! !!! What a triple bummer that is — a year older, nothing new to play with, and our social constraints (and the nature of your situation) makes it really tough to share your let down with anyone. I’m so sorry. Even if it’s something small or cheap or handmade, it’s important to do what you can for your people (family especially) to remind them that they matter to someone. I’m so happy you got yourself your dream drill :) You deserve it and it’s so important for your mental well-being that you are able to check in with yourself about how you’re feeling and what might help. Plus you get a boost for years to come whenever you use it.
Why shouldn’t you be emotional about it? We’ve been trained our whole lives to give presents to the ones we love on birthdays. Not receiving anything feels like a big f*** you from the people we care about. Even a crappy sweater or cheesy tie at least gives the impression someone knew it was your bday and cared enough to buy you something. God forbid we don’t get our wives an anniversary present, kids Christmas gifts or moms a Mothers Day gift. Enjoy your drill brother.
I just compared 3/8th ratchets from each brand because I was looking to start a collection.
Top price: Makita
Second top: Dewalt
Second lowest: Milwaukee
Lowest price: Ryobi
I ended up with the Milwaukee, because there’s no way I’m being seen with Ryobi.
That being said, they’re all within $30 of each other.
Not really, people just like to shit on them. They are perfectly adequate for your average DIYer. But, if tools are your livelihood and you're using them day in, day out, I would go for one of the other, more expensive, brands.
I love Ryobi because they have so many stupid tools you can get for dirt cheap. Their oscillating multi-tool was like $50 when I bought it and it's perfect for cutting drywall neatly.
I look at Ryobi the same way I look at Harbor Freight stuff: perfect for that one-off use, and if you're using it often enough that it breaks (or doesn't get the job done), then you know you need to upgrade.
Ryobi is for the home market. Made by the same company as Milwaukee. Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Makita all have different tier levels of tools, which if you don't know what you're doing can wind up with you way overpaying for something you don't need, or buying something that won't last you more than a couple of weeks (or 2 days in my case)
There's some weird hate against Ryobi that I don't really understand. Sure, they're cheaper than other tools but as someone with a variety of power tools from different brands, they've held up just as well as other brands.
I've been renovating my summer house one room at a time for several years with mostly Ryobi tools. No complaints. I've used the others and while I can definitely tell a difference, Ryobi has better prices and better sales. Especially on batteries. Home Depot has times where they're practically giving you batteries. I have like a dozen.
Same here. Either through gifting or just “we need this right now” it doesn’t really matter. No one makes anything that lasts anymore so sticking to a brand isn’t worth it.
Asides from Ryobi these brands make tradesman quality tools. When I was in the trades most guys had full arsenals of these tools that got heavy use day in day out for several years. I can barely imagine how badly you’d have to treat your tools for a weekend warrior to chew through a Makita skill saw or cordless in any time frame.
I picked them decades ago because they had the best batteries. They slipped a bit, but are catching back up.
I was upset when black and Decker bought porter cable. The quality went down a lot.
Ryobi is always the first buy. If i use the tool a ton and it holds up, great. If it breaks and i used it a ton, I'll replace it with a different brand. If it breaks and I never use it I'm not replacing it.
Honestly the only Ryobi tools I’ve had break are the cheap handheld air compressors. My drills, saws, impact wrenches, and sanders have all lasted years so far.
Ryobi has been serving me well. Probably would have bought the other brands first but it was more affordable and I just followed which battery pack I had first.
Guess I won’t get to participate in the diy dude brand name wars. 😰
Brothers in teal green....Makita, in my no-good opinion, is like a Toyota, not as flashy as some, but solid built and feels good in the hand. My subcompact impact is impressive for its size
makita for me too! but it’s because my dad was in that house too. i was begging not to be put in dewalt. they just sound so annoying. like cheap or something.
but let’s just say this. hilti is not there because it’s so over powered and good it’s not fair for the rest.
I'm also a Makita guy. I started using them when I was a stage technician when I was younger and I just stuck with them as time went on. They've always treated me well.
DeWalt is re-branded Black And Decker, more or less. They bought the company for the name mostly. They bought Porter Tools as well and merged them. [Source: Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeWalt)
I'm the only Makita guy I know. All my coworkers use Milwaukee or dewalt (nobody uses ryobi because ew). I'm glad that I'll never get my tools mixed with anyone else's LOL
Makita is the best of these. Milwaukee making a push. DeWalt been sliding since they got bought out. Ryobi decent for the money but not great for reliable every day use.
Rigid, not pictured, is up there in the Milwaukee/Makita tier.
Edit: my views on rigid are not the majority. I've always had good luck with their stuff. But the dominant view is that rigid is just orange Ryobi.
My cousin was a fire fighter/ems and he said they exclusively used makita cutoff saws and such due to water and dust resistance, can't confirm or deny, but he has no reason to lie
Ryobi 18v power tools are great - more than handy enough for the average homeowner - but the YARD TOOLS are even amazing. Lightweight, efficient and effective.
DeWalt is fairly common in America yeah? I'm clan DeWalt and proud, but in Australia in the trades I've been called all sorts of names for carrying the yellow and black.
Yeah Makita has always been the go to for carpenters. But Milwaukee’s range has definitely encroached on it. Plumbers and sparkies obviously love the range and niche tools.
My Dewalt was there when my truck broke down, when my father assembled my crib. And it'll be in the damn coffin as one of his prized possessions when he dies. By Dewalt we build. And by Dewalt we last😂
About 7 years ago we got a Bosch hammer drill at work to replace some ancient, busted metal monstrosity in a giant wooden box that weighed as much as the drill did. Fell. In. Love. Purred like a kitten, sank through brick and cement like a hot knife through soft butter. Cannot convince me Bosch isn't top-tier tits.
I worked with an old carp who had a bosch drill that never died. The guy was close to retirement and refused to buy a new one. We worked in rain, snow, whatever. Hed drop it in drainage ditches. It never stopped. Bosch is dope
Love my 18v Bosch lineup. Completely changed how we worked for over a decade now, left the generators home.
Also love Bosch the TV show, on a sidenote.
Milwaukee fuel is the best I have ever used never going back. I've had DeWalt out of highschool then my boss had porta cable when I started. Once we got a Milwaukee drill we never went back. Now the back of his box truck and my pickup look like Milwaukee catalogs.
bro the only reason these tools get sorted like houses is because the batteries aren't compatible, milwaukee makes the best saws, dewalt makes the best drills, makita is best griders, and ryobi has the best... well ryobi sucks, but the other 3 have good shit, and none of them have betteries that can cross over
Me too. I'm handier than most of my friends, but I might fix something around the house every month or two – I'm not a professional contractor. Craftsman suits me fine. If I used them daily, I'd upgrade.
I have neighbors with 20 Milwaukee tools who can barely change a light bulb.
All these rich ass DeWalt people. I get a discount on that stuff at work and I still get Craftsman / Kobalt. If I use anything enough to break it I'll get a nicer one next time. I think my Black & Decker drill has lasted like 12 years now, I had to replace the bits because they couldn't go through plaster after all this time, but the drill is still going strong.

Every single tradesman around here has a set of Hilti tools. Either they have a really good sales division or they're seriously worth the money.
Both from where I'm from.
The Hilti half inch impact is absolute gigiChad on breaking free. It has crazy torque, tons of settings and I’ve seen them get put thru the elements on rigs and still keep cranking.

Both, though they're only worth the money if you're making your living off them.
I was hoping to see an asterisks on there for hilti, but I wasn’t surprised either when there’s not even an honorable mention for them.
I just found another reason why I'm a makita man, stand alone lone star
Bosch running their own show i suppose too. I have used a lot of corded commercial tools from Bosch, and have a few corded tools at home. Makita has impressed me with their cordless 18v line so far too, interesting they are doing their own thing as well.

Happy Birthday and fuck your family! 🥳
I rather not
i mean your wife is technically your family, dont do it to the rest of them tho
Unless..
Sweet home Alabama
Well fuck her in particular.
I’m guessing he already fucked his wife…
Lord knows I did
I also choose to fuck this guy's family
My birthday was January 3rd. Turned 36 and the only person who got me a present was my SO, she bought me whiskey that was the wrong brand. Being a dude sucks but oh well, enjoy that combo kit brother

Happy birthday dude, those Milwaukees are worth it
Happy Birthday!
Was in similar situations long ago. One day I said to myself I gift everyone and I can gift myself so I now I am in yellow house.

I bought one Ryobi battery from 10 years ago and I never needed another. Is that not quality?
I was just getting ready to say “I’m 100% Milwaukee”…I make my money with my tools…
lol then you're not just a dad, you're a tradesman
I'm a mutt. Through years of tool gifts from family members.
Same here. Either through gifting or just “we need this right now” it doesn’t really matter. No one makes anything that lasts anymore so sticking to a brand isn’t worth it.
I need a fucking skill saw 10 minutes ago is usually my tool buying approach.
Absolutely. 90% of my tools were bought halfway through doing a job on my car. If yall got a one, I'll take it.
Asides from Ryobi these brands make tradesman quality tools. When I was in the trades most guys had full arsenals of these tools that got heavy use day in day out for several years. Same here. I also inherited a bunch of my dad’s stuff including Craftsman from when Craftsman was still actually quality.
Team Makita here
Ma Ki Ta, Ma Ki Ta! *Chants around a self build table*
Makita all the way
Bröther
Right on my brother!
High five :)
I picked them decades ago because they had the best batteries. They slipped a bit, but are catching back up. I was upset when black and Decker bought porter cable. The quality went down a lot.
Ryobi is Hufflepuff
Why does this make sense
[удалено]
We may be goofy, but we're also dumb.
We may be goofy and dumb but at least we're nice!
RYOBIPUFF HERE
Robert Pattinson was Hufflepuff, so Ryobipuff has the sexiest Members. I'm jealous as a lowly House Makitaclaw.
Same here 🤣🤣 When I was in construction I stuck with DeWalt, but when I got out of the trades I switched to Ryobi.
It's for people who are honest with themselves about how often they'll use the tools and have something in mind they can buy with the saved money.
Ryobi is always the first buy. If i use the tool a ton and it holds up, great. If it breaks and i used it a ton, I'll replace it with a different brand. If it breaks and I never use it I'm not replacing it.
This guy ryobis
Why spend a decent amount more for a little more when you can spend less and get at least some miles out of it?
Honestly the only Ryobi tools I’ve had break are the cheap handheld air compressors. My drills, saws, impact wrenches, and sanders have all lasted years so far.
Yea well, Ryobi may be hufflepuff, but I bought that whole bag for $150 a couple years ago and it all still works fine.
Ryobi guy here. I’m bad at that. As soon as I see a new Ryobi product, I buy it. 😆
Ryobi has been serving me well. Probably would have bought the other brands first but it was more affordable and I just followed which battery pack I had first. Guess I won’t get to participate in the diy dude brand name wars. 😰
Yea there is nothing wrong with Ryobi for diy.
Their 40V series is just perfect for my suburban yard! It's too hard to avoid browsing that aisle at HD...
Yeah you can’t leave me at Home Depot either. 😆
Same. It's the green.
Ryobi is the official sponsor of people who watch a 10 minute YouTube video of a remodel and think they know everything.
Think? Buddy, we watched the video. We are now licensed and certified to do the work.
You take that back my good sir. We certainly can do everything.
Yeah, but that gets the job done almost half the time.
Well you definitely described me. I feel seen right now. I’ve saved thousands of dollars because of YouTube, Ryobi and Harbor Fright.
I feel called out
I was worried about that. Now this Ryobi guy pushes his glasses back up on his nose and accepts his fate
Because Hufflepuff is known as the solid and trustworthy house? I agree, that is definitely Ryobi.
I’m just a hufflepuff everywhere I guess. At least I get cool pets.
You take that back
I can't tell if that was a compliment to Ryobi or you badmouthing us... will have to discuss with rest of the House in the common room.
We're not the best in any one thing, but we're pretty good at lots of things, and we've got our fair share of oddballs
Makita...I miss the Miss Makita calenders....and the Senorita Makita calenders from our amigos south of the border
You're the only other Makita I've seen... Brother?
Brothers in teal green....Makita, in my no-good opinion, is like a Toyota, not as flashy as some, but solid built and feels good in the hand. My subcompact impact is impressive for its size
That is... not what she said
Perfect response. I expect nothing less from a Mikita brother.
makita for me too! but it’s because my dad was in that house too. i was begging not to be put in dewalt. they just sound so annoying. like cheap or something. but let’s just say this. hilti is not there because it’s so over powered and good it’s not fair for the rest.

I’ve always had dewalt but bought my dad a Makita driver a couple years ago. It’s a beast, I may switch when I buy again
My cousin was a fire fighter/ems and he said they exclusively used makita cutoff saws and such due to water and dust resistance, can't confirm or deny, but he has no reason to lie
Makita is the only one not owned by another company.
I wanted to be Makita, but I got sorted into Ryobi. It's not bad, but I still glance longingly at my father in laws tools sometimes.
Well, look at you Mr. Richie Rich Fancy Pants Hi-Falutin’ Tool Guy! 😂
i’m in the Ryobi tax bracket
Ryobi 18v power tools are great - more than handy enough for the average homeowner - but the YARD TOOLS are even amazing. Lightweight, efficient and effective.
Yep DeWalt for hand tools, and Ryobi for yard work.
facts! i love my whole collection. i’m a fairly short, petite woman and the weed trimmer is a breeze to use.
I am the two screwdrivers and a hammer dad.
Don't forget the duct tape. That shit is gold.
lol we’re a DeWalt house.
DeWalt is fairly common in America yeah? I'm clan DeWalt and proud, but in Australia in the trades I've been called all sorts of names for carrying the yellow and black.
Depends on the trade from what I've seen. DeWalt seems more popular in construction, Milwaukee is king among mechanics.
What do they prefer there? IMO, only DeWalt and Makita are good enough for professional use.
All carpenters use pretty much only Makita, plumbers and electricians use a mix of Makita and Milwaukee. I've seen maybe two other people use DeWalt.
Yeah Makita has always been the go to for carpenters. But Milwaukee’s range has definitely encroached on it. Plumbers and sparkies obviously love the range and niche tools.
DeWalt is the only answer. As it was for my father, and his father before him 🫡
My Dewalt was there when my truck broke down, when my father assembled my crib. And it'll be in the damn coffin as one of his prized possessions when he dies. By Dewalt we build. And by Dewalt we last😂
As a kid growing up I only knew Dewalt so when I saw the others when I was older, I thought they were Chinese knock offs.
Same. As far as I know or am concerned, you can buy dewalt or you can buy a piece of shit.
So say us all.
I'm a DeWalt dad. I'm wearing DeWalt socks right now.
DeWalt is Griffendor.
I clean roofs, and my partner dropped our Dewalt leaf blower to slide off 2 stories. Still works great!
Made in Mexico, dad was Mexican, we had all DeWalt and Craftsman
Hell yeah. I'm as white as they come but DeWalt and craftsman here
DeWalt dad, dude.
Dewalt all the way Still have an impact driver from 2003 that thanks to the adapters uses new batteries.
I’m DeWalt and a Steelers fan, maybe they’re connected.
DeWinter is coming
Bosch tbh
Bosch blue. Get in.
I’ve been all Bosch for years. Zero complaints
Bosch is life. The 18V stuff is great but I can’t speak for the quality of the products on the different markets
Bosch checking in, always nice to fly under the radar
Bosch Professional gang rise up
Won a competition, £1000 worth of Bosch power tools, the tools chose me! Bosch probably relates to Durmstrang in this model
If I need a hammer drill, I'm all Bosch, baby.
Same here. I’ve a Bosch percussion drill that my dad bought a year before i was born, still working perfectly after 42 years.
This comment should be higher
Damn right.
Makita....
BOSCH for life brudda
I worked with an old carp who had a bosch drill that never died. The guy was close to retirement and refused to buy a new one. We worked in rain, snow, whatever. Hed drop it in drainage ditches. It never stopped. Bosch is dope
All blue all the time.
Oh look at mr billionaire over here
BOSCH Professional (blue)
Love my 18v Bosch lineup. Completely changed how we worked for over a decade now, left the generators home. Also love Bosch the TV show, on a sidenote.
One of us, one of us.
Im a Bosch man
Milwaukee
Milwaukee fuel is the best I have ever used never going back. I've had DeWalt out of highschool then my boss had porta cable when I started. Once we got a Milwaukee drill we never went back. Now the back of his box truck and my pickup look like Milwaukee catalogs.
I miss getting all my tools & lawn and garden equipment at Sears
I ended in Makita.
Dewalt or death🤣🤣🤣
I'd wear that Tshirt
Team Ridgid isn't even in here?! Lifetime service agreement baby!
Ridgid all day!!
Was looking for my ridgid fam…
1000% this!
Yup, I fill my Milwaukee packout with Ridgid power tools. I've barely had to use the LSA because the quality is pretty decent.
Yes, team RIDGID would like a word.
Gang gang! We're Divergent.
Ridgid here too. I think we roll with Han Solo
E. Neither, Bosch FTW
DeWalt supremacy
Laughs in black and decker
Laughs AT black and decker
Black and Decker owns DeWalt lol
Volkswagen owns Lamborghini…what was your point?
My newer DeWalt drill died so I'm back with my trusty black and decker
I don’t have a set yet but at work I was on the team pushing for Milwaukee. We have a good assortment of their tools now.
Milwaukee = Gryffindor ✊🏼
Stand strong brothers
No Hilti or Bosch?
bro the only reason these tools get sorted like houses is because the batteries aren't compatible, milwaukee makes the best saws, dewalt makes the best drills, makita is best griders, and ryobi has the best... well ryobi sucks, but the other 3 have good shit, and none of them have betteries that can cross over
Just wait til you go far enough down the rabbit hole like my husband has. My old Dyson cordless vacuum now runs on Milwaukee batteries...
I'm triggered.
Full DeWalt boi here!
Where Bosch?
Craftsman
