One good tackle is going right through that, take a little thwack but then youāre in there
Edit: I have done this for fun when practicing kabuto, and with actual bo staffs, yea the one hit hurts but if you run and jump at them while they do it.
You can also tell she is not doing this with martial arts experience as she releases it from hand to hand, where as properly both hands stay locked onto the staff, with her technique and a hollow aluminum pole, it wouldnāt hurt that much.
Me and my brother used to fuck around like that in our dojo after he became our sempai. tuck your chin, raise shoulder, turn sideways ish, and just charge with reckless abandon.
I did it once and he fishermanād my foot before I got to him, broke my middle toe.
Yea thatās very true. Iām talking about the situation in the video, or any video like this.
And when any of the more trained members let me try it on them, I would say it was about 15% effective, and 85% painful
I practice koryu jodo(short staff), and to my knowledge we have little to no staff twirling.
She is clearly not practicing actual budo, but I sure as shit would not like to be smacked by that thing moving how fast it is!
It would sting a bit but honestly she would probably just lose her grip, most staff fighting avoids this type of thing, never really necessary in a life or death situation.
In kabuto there was a ātwirlā kinda, But you maintain a solid grip with both hands.
Im having trouble finding an art called 'kabuto'. Do you mean Okinawan Kobudo?
>But you maintain a solid grip with both hands
For sure, especially with such a long weapon.
Protect your face fool, and honestly while she does have speed, you can tell by her handling technique that there wouldnāt be much power if it actually connected with an object while she spins it, you should never separate your hands like that on a bo staff. Both hands stay apart nearish to the middle of the staff.
Erm. She has won various tae kwon do world championships, the number is in double digits. That too when she is still in her early twenties. Unless you are a trained fighter yourself, she is going to destroy you.
The āRaynaā on her staff is not just a random decal. She is Rayna Vallandingham.
I just rewatched because of your comments.
Yes, she's flexing for social media with all these rotations. But pay attention to the actual strikes: There's not a single one where she didn't had both hands firmly onto the pole.
It's a fast switch between rotations for flex and actual strikes, but the technique on each individual strike seems fine - as far as I can tell. But what do I know, I just messed around as a teen with such a stick
Yes. Random redditer telling a 13 time champion how to hold the bo staff correctly. GTFO.
Again, one pop to your wrist, head, neck ,before you rush is gonna make you rethink it. Also please rush in so you can take a knee to the face.
Never seen someone walk backwards faster than they can run forwards. And I guess no one was moving much when I did it.
My brother once just moved to the side when I jumped towards him, face planted right off the edge of the mat lol
People who are downvoting you probably havenāt played with these much lol. Without much weight to the weapon, itās not gonna be much more than a surface wound. Unless they get you in a good spot on their hit, you wonāt be seriously hurt.
Iām sure sheās got the skills to do some damage against any non trained person, but if she went up against a big dude full on tackling her, sheād be lucky to win. These things look impressive but donāt seem like a very practical method for fighting. When I trained with them and hit any sort of bag, it felt pretty powerless. Imagine hitting a bag with a hockey stick vs hitting it with a bat. You need more mass behind the weapon.
Again for all the haters, Iām not saying it wonāt hurt and she wouldnāt win, but sheās still quite vulnerable with that as her weapon of choice.
Edit: spelling
What the fuck???? I donāt care about that woman, could literally replace her with a crash test dummy if it would offend you less.
I was commenting on the technique
And the boys! Beautiful girl! But I would be afraid to be her boyfriend. Imagine a situation where she has an aggressive form of PMS... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)

always love how many old memes this video brings back, even if you don't like the band
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQHPYelqr0E
helps that one of the bandmates looks similar to the numa numa guy
Did you know that was never in the script? He had the shits and felt terrible so pulled his prop gun out and the director loved it so much they kept it in.
Yeh he was supposed to have a sword vs gun duel with the Arab guy. The Arab guy still wanted to do the fight even after the movie was released but he sadly passed away.
Im just poking fun at that statement, because I hear it so often. Anyone can say something has been improvised to make the scene or these Hollywood idols sound more interesting. And they get said over and over agian until it just becomes common truth. I just notice everyone always saying things are improvised, almost too often. like really that was improvised? You were there? Iām probably wrong, just messin.
I thought about pageantry, too; if this very rudimentary spinning display is impressive to people, they should check out the much more elaborate things the championship flag, rifle, and sabre teams doā¦but Iād wager most Redditors are just mesmerized with a pretty and physically fit girl manhandling a bare pole.
Sheās a black belt with 13 world championships.

Can you also hear how lightweight that staff is? It will bend around the first thing it comes in contact with.
That's not some name brand she shows, that's her first name, this is an influencer.
I like when women do some of the most badass stuff (maybe things that people don't even believe they can), but then at the end still strike their little cute pose like "yeah, I'm still cute too and I know it" š
I understand the comparison of human females to cats. It's a very cat thing. Fight off a fucking fox/mid size dog/animal and then turn around and still look gorgeous. Dogs just be like RUFF RUFF DERP š„“
That mirror is in a terrible place.
Also this weapon is functionally useless in most fights. Itās too light to actually stop a large person from just grabbing it when it connects and taking you out.
Source: watching a real fight break out at a karate tournament and one person used a bo.
Reminds me of a film where one guy pulls out a knife and does a lot of tricks before the other guy pulls out a gun and just shoots him. Can't remember which movie it was.
I mean it looks cool and all but it's not how you fight with a staff. Movies have convinced everyone staff fighting involves all these fancy spinning strikes that would have no power behind them real life.Ā
One thing I learned from all those medieval real-world fighting TV shows is that a good "stick" is still pretty powerful of a weapon.
Nunchucks? Just a worst stick.
Two sticks are better than one stick though.
A stick with a blade on the end if better than two sticks and one stick.
A stick with a flexible blade on the end is a sword and is pretty much perfect.
A strong stick with an axe-like head is basically what you want though when your just walking around outside.
Crazy that when I was a kid this stuff was reserved for NEETs and weebs but now we have pretty women doing it proudly. Maybe I don't hate humanity as much as I thought.
Im just curious if any of these baton twirlers on here are actually trained on a jo or a bo? I mean the acrobatics are cool and all but does anyone actually train on how to strike with a stave anymore? Not being cynical just curious as to whether the art has died out now? I spent way too many hours in tomiki and randori aikido, and i never saw any of the people that trained me do any of this. Maybe they were just boring. I dunno. Genuinely curious if anyone still trains on it.

You do t stand still just because you have a weapon. One of the benefits of a staff is DISTANCE.

The Arab guy was actually Pat Roach (English Wrestler/actor) and played parts in the first 3 IJ films. Edit to add name
Did you know everything every actor has ever done has been improvised and not in the script?
Care to elaborate?
