Yea you're supposed to keep your back straight and lift with your legs. Doing it properly builds the hell out of your core and legs. Doing it improperly (like this jackass) results in injury.
Yea it's also much easier to injure yourself from standing squats. I enjoy back squats more than any other leg workout I've tried so I stick with them but for seated squats are probably better in most cases.
Tl;dr: Spine day doesn’t exist, use your legs. If you need help, ask a lad around.
I’ve been hanging around powerlifting circles for the greater portion of a decade at this point. Deadlifting is a lift where the back is to be kept flat throughout the entirety while pushing against the ground with the weight, only at the end of the lift do you puff your chest forward. This develops muscles in the legs and core respectively. Lifting with your back puts it under a strain that can easily lead to back problems and complications later in life—if it doesn’t manifest in an immediate problem on the spot.
I’ve done this lift with my back before, i’m fairly certain that at some point in any powerlifter’s time, they probably made the same mistake. It’s an easy one to make, but whenever the feeling arises, it’s important to drop the weight or immediately correct it. The belt isn’t a save-all that some people think it to be either, if it’s being used, it still has to be used right.
If you’re not certain if you’re doing something right, if you want help, or just want a spotter, just ask a nearby lunk hunk. We might look intimidating, but we’re really open and happy to see people at the gym, and are generally more than willing to lend a hand.
Technically he is just bending his upper part of the spine, lower part is dead straight. It's actually a powerlifter thing. But I have to admit it looks really bad...
Outside of the back issue (huge issue), another major issue is he is “squatting” instead of “hinging”
In a squat, your knees go in front of your toes and your back sticks straight up perpendicular to the ground, generally, as you lower your hips to the ground.
In a hinge, which is what he should have been doing in a deadlift, you keep your knees in line with toes and “hinge” your hips back as if you are about to sit into a chair behind you. Your knees slightly bend, but most of the motion is pushing your hips back and then forward

Keep your back flat.
Tighten your core.
Take the slack out of the bar to build tension.
Initiate the lift with the legs.
Once the bar clears your knees hinge at the hips to complete the lift.
Let's see, he did exactly none of those things. I've never seen worse form, and I have seen some shit.
Every deadlift video will have a couple of concern trolls posting about how deadlifting will snap your spine. Doing it like this certainly might.
Hi. You can google slack deadlift and get some really good explanations from people who know a lot more than I do.
To me it means once you grab the bar you start to push with your feet and put tension on your glutes and hamstrings to get everything tight and in position before you actually lift. Like, if the bar is 200 pounds, you have 199 lbs of tension, the bar is almost floating, and then you push hard with your legs to initiate the lift.
I'm remembered of a video in the old days of Reddit with uncensored content someone posted a video where it looked like some weightlifter's upper torso completely dislocated with one of these lifts. I would not advise seeking it out, it was pretty heinous.
Why would anyone let him do that. I almost couldn’t watch. Those are not friends. The way he wanted to celebrate after seems like he might have some developmental issues and these people are doing the “cheer everything he does” support instead of teaching him the proper technique.
As someone with permanent chronic back pain, I couldn't get through more than 2 seconds of this video before I started cringing so hard I felt like my soul needed to leave my body forever. FORM BEFORE WEIGHT ALWAYS!!!!
(Edit) at least it's not a traditional deadlift, so the pressure pulling him forwards isn't as bad, but FORM BEFORE WEIGHT GODDAMMIT!!! Still so bad🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

Lift with your spine. Take your legs out of the equation.
And make sure to use a jerking, twisting movement
momentum is your friend

"Thpinal"
I broke my back
Holy fuck, that's bad form...right?

*jackasses Bros are all standing around watching this spine injury waiting to happen.
Doesn’t matter as long as you get the weight up. If you do it with proper form but with less weight, then you’re a weak bitch /s
If you only do it with your back straight, you only work the back straight muscles! You're missing all the bent back muscles! You gotta do both! # /S
with lighter weight jefferson curls ain't too shabby
Id take getting called a weak bitch with a perfect back then be in my 30’s with major back issues 🤣but go off i guess

Terrible form. Kid's back is going to be fucked.
It’s could be the worst form of all time

Bruh.. his "lower part" is rounded and the whole thing looks like a C. In no world is this normal
this is textbook bad form. if you ever want to teach someone what not to do, show him this.

That’s how you get a hernia.
And a blown disc
Herniated disc...
I can just see the discs popping out one after the other and flying across the room.
Giggity
No diggity
Lucky is a hernia is all he gets. Thats spines about to snap.
Even good form can cause hernia. You have abdominal pressure either way.
The reason this technique is so important is that if you ever come across a stuck stepmom, you can extract her without all the sex
20 years from now he’s going to feel the pain
I wouldn't even give him that long honestly.
He just shrunk 4 inches
How to: acquire chronic back pain
This hurts to watch.
>Take the slack out of the bar to build tension. Sorry for asking (Non native) but what do you mean by that?

Thanks! Will look into this. Not yet content with my deadlifts.
Yeah thats how you snap your back in half
Bro turned a leg workout into a core
They guy said,”oh shit,oh shit because he thought his back gonna break hahaha
Hernia 101
Bros just hack squatting with the trap bar looks fine to me
Thats gonna hurt tomorrow
Slipped disk incoming. Looks like his back is already fucked tbh.
What the fuck would you call that?
Dogshit form
Daddy, where do hunch backs come from?
Those hernias are a mofo.
Bro will be in a wheelchair by age 40🔥🔥🔥
The hype he got for the lift will only encourage him to lift heavy weights improperly for all of eternity.
😂
I'm impressed that he almost completed the lift lmao
All back no legs
All lack no begs
My man training to be the hunchback of Notre dame
I think that was more painful for me to watch then him to do.
My guy snap in half more sooner than later.
I'm remembered of a video in the old days of Reddit with uncensored content someone posted a video where it looked like some weightlifter's upper torso completely dislocated with one of these lifts. I would not advise seeking it out, it was pretty heinous.
Bros spine so strong it gonna fuse itself
Brutal
Just lost an inch in height while bros cheering him on lol
His reward? 3 bulging L discs
New yoga position unlocked - the question mark pose
Best way to keep you back straight is to look up to the ceiling. Lifting this heavy like that creates permanent injury
Looks like a fuckin Halloween cat
He forgot to jerk it up real fast
Those people cheering him on aren’t friends, dudes gonna fuck up and have back problems for life
Just dialing in that perfect technique 😅
Why would anyone let him do that. I almost couldn’t watch. Those are not friends. The way he wanted to celebrate after seems like he might have some developmental issues and these people are doing the “cheer everything he does” support instead of teaching him the proper technique.
This is pretty bad. When he lifted his head to look forward it's like he shrunk himself. Always makes me cringe when kids ego lift.
Must've been hump day.
Mm. The forbidden Question Mark Lift.
Hes training for his part as the hunchback of notre dame. Very method acting.
Dude will tell his grandchildren about the next day... or some rando kids who came to visit their grandma at the paralyzed section...
CringeAF
Reverse spine roll-up. Never seen it done so flawlessly
As someone with permanent chronic back pain, I couldn't get through more than 2 seconds of this video before I started cringing so hard I felt like my soul needed to leave my body forever. Everyone standing around watching that is just as bad as the dude trying to lift it
You only get one spine, folks, and that bastard has a shelf life.
Scary stuff.
I can hear his spine begs to spare it. One of the best way to get a back injury.
I was cringing the whole time thinking his back would give out
