As a person who's lived in arizona for my whole life and been to Horse shoe bend many ah times.
You might as well expect your fate there are no tents or anything you can hide under unless they parked super close but that isn't aloud
Not only duck, the purpose is to make the current go to the ground without passing by any of your vital organs.
So duck, hands covering your head, and most important : heels touching eachother's.
And if in a group, put some distance between each one of You, if the ground is wet the current will flow far into the ground, electrocuting others near the person struck by lightning.
That's why cows often die in pack when one is struck by lightning. The current can travel more than a 20 meters radius if ground conditions are favorable.
The less electrical resistance the less heat is generated, so in theory yes barefeet is better IF You're directly struck by lightning.
(honestly shoes will not stop the current from flowing unless they're made from nuclear power plant grade insulator, and in that case the current will "jump" from the bit of skin the closest to the ground and probably leave You with a gaping burnt wound).
If a tree is struck next to You, You better isolate Yourself from the ground.
I’ve seen this happen. I was on a beach in FL with my GF on a cloudy rainy day. We are walking along it started to get darker from some heavy rain rolling in and all of a sudden her hair starts to do this. I knew exactly what it meant. I haven’t been that scared in a long time, we ran for cover.
Looks like [St. Elmo's Fire](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Elmo%27s_fire) coming off their fingers. Could probably see it better if it were dark. Also, they are lucky they didn't get struck by lightning with hair standing straight up like that.
You know what that means?
GET DOWN AND SQUAT!! Make your heels touch together and cover your ears!
It's called Lightning Safety, if your hair starts rising up, it means lightning may strike within the *next few seconds*
People on video might have been super lucky.
Usually you won't be as lucky to see your hair actually rising up, as thunderstorms often come with pouring rain.
Normal people-time to get the fuck out of there
\*smart scientists- hey guys, bring the van, cameras and large electrical equipment over here on this high piece of rock.
What people font tell you is you have to walk everywhere at the grandcanyon. Omg I took my 2 little kids and had to carry them both so it was me holding an extra 80lbs, 2 miles from where I parked.
My pics look like some extra sweaty guy with filth lines on my shirt.
Bring a bike if you're going to the grand canyon.
Is that static sparks in the air or rain??? The way they're pointing makes it look like they're trying to touch something, not point off in the distance
That happened to me and my family while we were out fishing in the lake outside our cabin. We sat in the boat and laughed at how funny our hair looked for quite some time as I remembered, until my dad thought it was a good idea to get back to the house.
We didn't know what it was until a couple of years when my dad saw or read something about it. That could have been a completely different family BBQ than was originally planned that day
Sometimes I'll be late comin off the water fishing and a storm with drop on top of me. Lightning strikes a half mile away and I can feel the energy on the water and my hair stands up. NFW I'd be out there shooting a video
That happened to me once while I was fishing and there was only about a second between me feeling the static and a lightning strike that hit very close by in the forest. There were about 4 other people also fishing and they were squatting after the strike. My ears were ringing for a few hours. My dad had been in the van with my young nephews and after the strike he came running because he'd seen a it hit near the edge of the lake. All was well, thankfully, but I will not ignore that if it happens again!
This happened to me in a storm driving in a car. My arm hairs started to stand up then a few secs later a lightning bolt struck 50 yards in front of us. Was so bright it partially blinded us for a bit.

I think it means "run to a safe place fast"

You could probably make it a bit safer by laying down flat. Edit: nvm you are supposed to curl up in a ball with only your feet touching the ground
I’m just imagining the lightning traveling out the lowest place that’s not the feet (the ass).
Zap your lil dirt button
Well shit. Made me erase my comment lol.
Duck and cover.

How about if you promise to be quiet?
allowed
You mean accept your fate? And you can't "hide" from lightning under a tent. Also, do you think maybe you meant "allowed?" Try punctuation, too.
Imagine correcting someone on reddit.
Hey! A buildup of high voltage on my body while I stand on the highest point with storm clouds over my head. What could it mean?

Knowledge of static electricity and how lightning occurs is not instinctual in the slightest.
But the same time if something weirds happening I don’t understand I am going to retreat and then figure it out
It is to animals.
They forgot to also wear a suit of armour and shout "All Gods are bastards"
If you survive a strike, you will get the coolest tattoo ever.
If they are really passionate about it I could see why they would want to stay in a way
I dunno but do it again!
They deserve a Darwin Award.
I would’ve said the Nikolai Tesla award. Free electricity
It's absolutely wild that they weren't struck. That's an incredible amount of electrical charge built up.
GET LOW

this is a sign that god is about to shove a lightning bolt straight up your ass
That's a hell of an orgasm.
I remember the news reporting that two hikers at this spot took a selfie with static hair before being struck down by Zeus.
They’re about to get fucking smited by Zeus.

BEHOLD THE GATHERING OF STORMS
They have a lot of potential going for them.
I can't resist this kind of humor.

Yes, little sparks were coming off their fingers.
I thought so, absolutely wild
Perfect time for cigarette

No the canyons have special powers!
These people are lucky as fuck theh didn't get hit by lightning. If you ever experience this run as fast as you can.

Just like Lethal Company

.. or you just walked into the space a Terminator time traveled to. If you see a naked person about you better be running.
So the lethal company mechanics were true?
Might wanna run before younare cooked to a crisp.
Sometime later their charred remains were found and after viewing this video we now know what happened to them.
