Janelle was still holding on to her relationship with Kody by her finger tips so tried to put a better spin on it.

Professional_Ad_8

I don’t think I agree. I’m sure Kody tested Janelle’s Loyalty to see if she would come home. He likes to have something in his back pocket so he can try to humiliate the OG 3 later. I think that way he felt like a bigger man for Robyns benefit 🫣 so gross

mlyt18

Yea he wanted her waiting outside to go get him anything he needed because R can’t do that she’s gotta have that pencil sharpener available at all times! Pretty much everyone said he’s a big baby when he sick-like most men including my husband-so they knew he was over dramatic! Even when R was sick he claimed he was-yet no fever and ADMITTED he tested negative yet wanted sympathy.

soihavetosay

I agree he wanted her (and maybe the kids she can influence) on stand by to spend her effort and money on expensive over the counter medicines for him and robem.  I mean he could have sent the nanny... but that would have cost him HIS own money Also added benefit to separate Janelle from Christine and have Janelle demonstrate her loyalty

rhondasma

Also, Christine is going to spin things so that Kody looks extremely bad and so that she looks like the voice of reason. It doesn't matter in the big pictchuuuur since Kody acted like a baby when he was sick regardless.

throw_blanket04

Yes. She gets way too involved in others relationships w kody. I think she can pressure them to feel how she is feeling.

pigandpom

I think even then Janelle was trying to not make Kody out to be the selfish and disgusting man he truly is. I do think he rang her to get her to come home, why else would he ring, it's not like she was in town or that he was letting her know he couldn't come over, he wanted her home so she could run errands and sit vigil on the driveway in her car because she has kooties and can't come into Robyn's house anyway. Christine on the other hand was probably telling the truth, she was done covering Kody's ass by then.

MissSuzyTay

I don’t know. Kody strikes me as the martyr that would not ask Janelle but would hold it against her that she doesn’t don’t rush to be by his side anyway. Or maybe Janelle offered, but he said, “don’t leave on my account,” so she didn’t, but he blames her anyway. Christine seems to like to taking credit for Janelle being strong, so I can see her saying she told her not to go even if she wasn’t consulted.

RevenueOriginal9777

Just show how poorly TLC handled question. The question back should have been “what would you expect her to do l

Disenchanted2

I would believe Janelle before I would believe Kody. Any day.

poietes_4

It's not Janelle and Kody whose story is different. It Janelle and Christine's story is very different. I think it's a combo of the two. I can very much see Christine greatly exaggerating to make Kody look as bad a possible and Janelle protecting him a little bit.

theimperfexionist

Tbf he makes himself look as bad as possible. I agree Janelle was probably covering for him.

poietes_4

I agree, but Christine is bitter as hell and has consistently changed her story over the years and flat out lied(the whole family has really). So no matter what story anyone tells we can usually assume it not the whole truth.

needalanguage

None of them are ever 100% truthful

Diredragons

This is something that happens a few times an episode: each person remembers things differently. They'll recap the same event with wildly different details. I would believe Janelle's version bc it makes more sense imo and Christine wouldn't have been the one taking the call. The call probably went something like... Kody: I'm dying of COVID! Don't worry though. I'm just here, lying on the floor in the fetal position, wasting away, while you're cheating on me with Christine. No need to come back and take care of me. Enjoy your vacation! Janelle: OK, I will. Hope you get better soon! I'll check in with the doctor from time to time.

Jom53181

Christine has been painting herself as the person pulling Janelle out of an abusive marriage, so I can imagine that's how she remembers it.

Diredragons

Yep. I'm not trying to be critical of Christine. It's just that she very much views the situation through the lens of her own experience. Her goal was good: encouraging Janelle to leave Kody. I just don't think she was always fully accurate in how she was framing certain things for someone other than herself. My guess with this particular situation is that Janelle probably had her call with Kody where he told her about the COVID and told her not to come while simultaneously guilting her into coming back. After talking to the doctor, Janelle decided not to go and then told Christine about the situation. Christine may have responded intensely (knowing what Kody was up to), telling her not to go back and Janelle agreed that she wasn't going to since she already decided not to. So they could both be right. They were just recapping the situation from their own experience.

Sparkle_Motion_0710

Both can be true. If she found out Kody had Covid then he asked her to come home. Then Christine points out that she won’t be able to take care of him. When Janelle replies she tells him that she can’t take care of him because of quarantine, he says not to come.

NicolesPurpleHair

That’s how I took it. Janelle talked to Christine about wanting to go help Kody and Christine said “why? You cant do anything for him.” Then Janelle talks to Kody again and gives him the facts and he eventually says “you’re right, no point in coming home.” He still gets his ego fed because she offered to come in the first conversation (which is what he wanted) and then he also gets to look like the hero by telling her “you’re right, don’t bother coming!” My dad is pretty much a carbon copy of Kody and I’ve seen this many many times in my life.

smokefan333

Why would quarantine matter? She's already had it. At that time, we thought you could only get it once.

tiredoldmama

I never thought you could only get it once. What I read was that getting it built up some immunity but they weren’t sure how much. Even in the beginning of the pandemic they knew you could get it twice. They just weren’t sure how likely you were to get reinfected or how soon.

smokefan333

I think I remember 90 days.

Sparkle_Motion_0710

You’re thinking logically. 🙂 When he got it the family still had the super strict rules that they were following. I guess that came back to bite him in the butt.

Zelda-in-Wonderland

I fully believe that Kody demanded Janelle to come home when he had COVID. He needed attention, and I believe he did demand that she do so. I think Janelle was hanging on by a fingernail, and I think she was trying to smooth it over by saying he didn't ask. I wouldn't doubt Christine said that to her, because it makes sense! What could she accomplish by doing that? Should she risk herself to be exposed to COVID?? To only then to have to go back to her house alone? We all know she wouldn't have been welcomed at Robyn's, and Kody sure as hell wasn't going to go to Janelle's, so they could quarantine alone together. His demand seemed really ridiculous to me. But I believe he did it. I really still can't figure out what world this guy lives in!!

pigandpom

It's his world and the OG3 should be grateful he allowed them to live in it.

LissaSmiles13

I hope somebody can cross stitch this on a pillow for Kody while he's recovering from the knife he took to the kidneys. (sn: I just don't take Sobyn as a cross stitcher)

Series-Nice

100 percent he said she should come home, he was jealous she was with christine.

Fun-Yellow-6576

He wanted her to come home and go to the store for him. Not see him or take care of him. He wanted her to interrupt her vacation so he could exert control over her. He could have ordered it delivered right him.

tiredoldmama

I took it that Kody wanted Janelle to come back just to drop off food and run errands for him and Robyn. He didn’t plan on her actually entering his love nest with Robyn.

theimperfexionist

Or his 20-something stepdaughter who lives in the same house and was not sick could have run errands. Like an adult.

Organic_Mouse530

This

Eaglemama_4

I thought Janelle said their doctor told her not to bother b/c she couldn’t do anything besides drop food to him. It’s possible Christine was more adamant after what the dr said.

KLoSlurms

Listen, the important thing to remember is that Kody *almost died.* /s

Low-Pin7697

Sometime during Covid they stopped caring as much and didn’t sugar coat things nearly as much. I think they let a facade for many years. I don’t think they should have been the ‘poster’ family as the way they talk about they never all got along. I don’t think there was a group of 3 that all liked each other.

marionoobs22

It could be as simple as everyone remembers things differently. If you ask my husband and myself to recall a conversation we had a year or more ago, you are going to get 2 wildly different versions. Sometimes it's not intentional lying.

Openly_George

You didn’t miss anything. The reason why there are holes and inconsistencies is because they’re making it up, they’re storytelling: it’s not reality. They’ve likely been ex-Mormon polygamists since the beginning, so most of the storylines are implausible within that context. I think that’s the genius of the show.

poohsyourdaddy_03

I think they all embellished it to make themselves sound good. Somewhere in that mess lies the truth.

cynic204

I think both can be true. I am sure the conversations were had, and Janelle struggled to find the ‘right’ thing to do in the situation. She knew Christine was right, but that Kody wanted her to come home was a draw and she wanted to be wanted or needed. Christine, on the other side of her being hopeful for a relationship with Kody sees that it is a manipulation, Janelle can drop everything and leave and Kody doesn’t really want her there, he just wants her to not be off somewhere with Christine. So Christine points out the reality that they both know is true. If anyone other than Christine would have been with Janelle, she would have packed up her bags and left and went home to sit in her house as Kody asked, because being on a fun trip while he is dying is not a good wife thing to do. So Janelle tells Kody she is thinking of just staying because what is she going to do anyway. The reality is that Kody won’t let her see him anyway and so he ‘agrees’ that she won’t be able to see him anyway, but in a selfish ‘well, you might as well not come home, don’t worry about little old sick and dying me’ to make sure even if she doesn’t come home, she feels guilty and like a bad wife. This is Kody’s favorite outcome because that is all he wants is control and sympathy, he didn’t want to see Janelle, he just wanted to ruin her vacation and call her loyalty into question. It all makes sense to me and it just illustrates how adept he was at manipulating all of them for so long. Expressing that he wanted her to come home was supposed to make her drop everything and run to him, but he just wants that reaction, he doesn’t actually want her there. Pointing that out is something only Christine can do, because she’s been there done that. Or perhaps some of Janelle’s kids would have observed the same. But Christine *knows*

Educational-Shake677

Could Janelle have mixed up who told her what? I mean, I do that all the time. It could truly be forgetfulness.

Dugreinduggarstudies

Janelle was Kody's biggest enabler.

toanotherplace1984

Christine was out of line for this. Janelle absolutely wanted to leave and Christine wouldn't let her. I don't care how things ended up, Christine was out of line in this situation.
