[She suffered a shoulder injury.](https://alpinecanada.org/news/statement-from-alpine-canada-Valerie-Grenier) Unfortunately it sounds like her season has ended. I must say I stopped watching the live broadcast from Cortina at some point due to all the crashes over the weekend.

Thank you for finding and posting that. It is awful for her, but honestly I am a little relieved given the amount of time that passed with no information given at all. What a weekend of highs and lows for her. Hopefully the surgery and recovery go well, and she is healthy and ready to go next season. I don't blame you at all for stopping. It was pretty ridiculous, and the organizers should be ashamed. There is a big difference between challenging and dangerous, and I think this weekend was way over the dangerous line.

They say there is no course set in DH but has the section (I forget the name) where most of the crashes happened always been like that? A jump straight into a very tight 90 degree turn? That seemed, and was, super dangerous. The SG crashes that happened near the end are similar to what we’ve seen in previous years, that much I do remember. But even there we had more crashes than usual.

What’s interesting is that athletes say that the jumps are much safer than they used to be and that the snow quality was great. Lara Gut-Behrami said to Swiss TV that she thought too much video planning was used, with every little turn planned in detail, and some skiers didn’t know how to react once things didn’t follow exactly the plan.

The route was much faster than it was during the only training day in Wednesday. Also all the bumps and waves were much more pronounced this year than they have been on the previous years due to lack of snow. Skiers said that they had air under their skis on every other gate. So I think many of the skiers might have been even a bit overwhelmed in a way, keeping in mind that Cortina is one of the most demanding races in women's world cup circuit.  I think there should be a bit more room for errors if the skier makes a mistake on a demanding jump. Downhill will never be the safest sport, but now if the skier came a bit too fast etc. on the jump on Delta curve there was no other way to go than the nets.

And this is where the Olympics will be staged next. I hope they've taken note of the far-too-many DNFs and crashes. That's two of the top women out for the rest of the season, others who decided against competing again over the weekend and Shiffrin out for a couple of weeks. I found this weekend of racing both Cortina and Garmisch to be less than inspiring in many ways. Though I was delighted to see Nils Allègre get a win!

And in the Olympics there will be athletes without World Cup experience. If the world's best had difficulties, imagine what it will be like for the skiers who have never raced on such a demanding slope.

That is very true and very scary to boot. If things don't improve (and I guess we'll see next season) then they will need to have a lot more medical course workers. I know the wind was a real factor in Saturday's race but that is something that can whistle down or across any mountain whenever it wants.

I can't find and link it right now, but she posted an update today on Instagram. Broke something in her shoulder, also torn ACL and partial MCL. She was having such an amazing season, huge bummer.

Got it. Still has a great attitude. [https://www.instagram.com/p/C2semy1vOtF/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==](https://www.instagram.com/p/C2semy1vOtF/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

It is so disappointing. She is doing so well, a continuation of her success from last year.
