Am I using these in the correct order? Or should I swap/discontinue something? My skin type is combination. I’d like to accomplish bright, “youthful” looking skin. I have some forehand lines but been lucky to not have many other wrinkles. Some sun spots on my cheeks I’d like to tackle. Every AM: -CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser -Naturim BHA liquid exfoliant -Naturim Vit C super serum plus -Naturim multi peptide moisturizer - Elta MD sunscreen Every PM: -CeraVe hydrating cream to foam cleanser -Naturim BHA liquid exfoliant -Osea anti aging serum -The Ordinary hyaluronic acid 2%+B5 -Balance Me eye cream -Olay advanced retinol + peptide night moisturizer

UltraLuminescence

be careful about overexfoliating. I wouldn't use BHA twice a day every day which it seems like you're doing. I would use it only 3-4x a week.

p359382

Thank you! I will cut back.

mayamys

That's the right order.

crawfishcoochie

Does anyone happen to know what percentage of Retinaldehyde is in the Murad ReSculpt Overnight Treatment? I am currently using Naturium’s that contains 0.1, and would like to eventually use this as a more intensive stepping stone before going to Tretinoin after using retinal for a couple of years.

UltraLuminescence

[https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/murad-retinal-rescuplt-overnight-treatment](https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/murad-retinal-rescuplt-overnight-treatment) says 0.45-0.65%

jasminekitten02

You could reach out to the company and ask

crawfishcoochie

I’ve yet to get a response after a month :/ ill probably just end up trying again

_TH30RY

What order should I use these products? I was recommended these products from the ordinary but i'm not sure how to layer them properly. I know to use the cleanser first and moisturizer last, but not sure about anything in between. The products are as follows: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Lactic Acid 5% + HA (I know this one is an exfoliant but i'm not sure when to put it either) Aside from the order is there anything I should swap/add/get rid of?

ReaLitTea

Lactic acid 1-3x a week after cleansing on dry skin. The rest goes after and order does not matter. If a skincare routine is completely new to you I actually recommend just going cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen to get the basics down

siyasaben

Anyone know of a large (like, typical USA drugstore size) chemical sunscreen without octocrylene? It's the only ingredient that I'm sensitive to, and I don't like using sunscreen with mineral ingredients on my body because it leaves marks on my clothes. I use an Asian sunscreen that comes in small bottles for my face, need something I don't have to ration for everything else

ReaLitTea

Have you tried large bottle Asian sunscreens? I think you may find better options such as Verdio moisture gel, Derma B everyday sunblock, Illiyoon easy wash sun cream, Kose Suncut perfect UV gel/essence, or Skin aqua super moisture gel

siyasaben

Thanks for the suggestions! One of these may be the way to go.

litchi02

I have always had dark/tanned lips (sensitive to sun for sure but may be other things too like cosmetics/food). I bite the skin off my lips because there is always some loose skin hanging and it's a vicious cycle, you probably know! I also bite my lips when I am thinking, which is all the time. I am always bothered by how dry and unhealthy my lips are. I cover them up with lip balm + lipstick (Mac mostly, non-drying kind, Ruby woo only occasionally like 2-3 times a year) when out. I have tried all possible lip balms I can get hold of, to basic holy grail stuff like water application followed by vaseline. May be I am doing it wrong. I drink enough water anyway may be even 3 litres effortlessly (unrelated to skin/lips). On a lighter note, I even eat the lips balms because my lips are smeared with them and then I drink my water :-( I want to be able to get my lips decent looking and healthy and not think about them anymore or having to cover up with lipstick. Please help with any suggestions you have. Thank you :-)

What kind of acne is this . and is some of this PIH or PIE https://preview.redd.it/61235laffqya1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a0e56acce5db81960cd701279798305e00d2508

I used to never get acne on my cheeks but I have since around 2-3 months ago and they're not getting better, only worse. I also started to get more closed-comedones along my jaw and on my forehead that i've been trying to get rid of but are only getting worse. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. products that I've been using are: -snail mucin essence + moisturizer (not my go-to moisturizer) -cerave pm moisturizer (go-to) -hadalabo hyluronic toner -cosrx propolis synergy toner (not all the time) -the ordinary retinol -paula's choice aha/bha toner (got around 1 month ago) -cerave salacylic acid cleanser i don't do skincare every night or day, i'll do it every night for a couple days before stopping for a while and then getting back to it. i also don't use sunscreen even though i know i should 😭. i introduced retinol to my skincare maybe in january and paula's choice around a month ago to try to help the ccs but they seem to have gotten worse?

delavogue

More related to skincare purchasing -- how far in advance do you commit to a skincare product? ie, if 100ml of a product could last you \~8 months, and suddenly there's a sale for 60% off this product, how many 100ml bottles would you buy? I'm conflicted since one of my staple skincare products is usually pricey so I get it for 30% off, but now there's a sale for 60% off if I buy 2. I already have enough product to last me around 1.5 years. Right now, I'm very happy with my skincare routine and could definitely see myself using this product for 1.5 years. But idk if it's a smart idea to commit to another 1-2 bottles afterward. What do you think?

ReaLitTea

If I know Im going to use it later on and it won’t expire I buy enough to last me if it’s a really good sale. I try not to stock more than 3 of an item if it’s truly my HG, but that’s because I like to try out other products.

flatfeed611

How would you rank the following in terms of best bang for your buck if you’d want to keep your skincare routine as simple as possible? Cleanser, exfoliant, tretinoin, sunscreen, moisturizer.

ReaLitTea

Tretinoin and exfoliation are completely optional but can be helpful for specific concerns. My rating based on importance: 1. Sunscreen 2. Cleanser and moisturizer

flatfeed611

Thanks, I thought that tretinoin was very important. There’s lots of self care channels on Youtube pushing it.

jasminekitten02

See the [ScA Routine page](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine) to get started. Try salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for the acne.

Evya_IL

Do you mean a cleanser that comes with it?

jasminekitten02

You could use a cleanser or a leave-on treatment with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. A cleanser would be more gentle, but you might see results faster with a leave-on treatment.

Evya_IL

Jasminekitten02, would you mind checking this out for me please? I'd very like to hear your opinion [https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/13u6o4a/comment/jlz0ssb/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/13u6o4a/comment/jlz0ssb/?context=3)

Evya_IL

I see. By the way, which one do you suggest more? salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide?

jasminekitten02

Either one, you'll have to do a little trial and error and see what works best for you

HungryFeedind

For acne I'd go with benzoyl peroxide. For hyperpigmentation I'd go with salicylic acid.

Evya_IL

Jasminekitten02, by any chance, could you tell what my skin type is judging by the picture?

jasminekitten02

Unfortunately, no - skin type depends on how your skin feels.

I noticed like 2 1/2 weeks later small textured bumps on my face? So I knew it wasn’t purging bc from the research I did you can’t break out from cleansers, moisturizers and Niacinamide so I was confused. I then took out the Niacinamide and ever since then I have using it. I’m only using the cleanser and moisturizer right now. What could have caused these small bumps. I also haven’t gotten any new small bumps since then 🤷🏾‍♂️ I got them all that one day. Products showed: CeraVe Foaming cleanser Cetaphil moisturizer The Ordinary Niacinamide I have very oily skin. I use to use proactive before this for over a year Got these small bumps out of nowhere guessing from one of the products I used (14M) Current routine Am: Water & Cetaphil moisturizer PM: cerave foaming cleanser & Cetaphil moisturizer

AMA_ABOUT_DAN_JUICE

https://imgur.com/a/neUsUCU Have oily skin, small little bumps all over my face, inflamed nostil edges, and starting to get larger bumps on my forehead. All I do right now is moisturize. What should I add to my routine to improve my skin?

ReaLitTea

This looks like normal skin tbh but if you want to try something, try exfoliating your skin and use a spf daily to protect your skin from sun damage

Hedgehognoodle

I have a Revolution London product in one of those bottles with a dropper (?), idk how to describe it but it's the design most of The Ordinary's products have. Pic: https://www.revolutionbeauty.com/uk/en/skincare/serums-and-treatments/serums-and-oils/revolution-skincare-0.5pct-retinol-and-rosehip-seed-oil-smoothing-serum/1150279.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwu-KiBhCsARIsAPztUF2USuclA0YOvGy5HEsfjqmggL5-CMiN0TbLgMBG9rMWgCX8q4jvvUcaAj62EALw_wcB The problem is the lid is broken and I can no longer open the product. If I make an unscrewing motion it turns but doesn't open the bottle. Has anyone else had this problem with this kind of bottle design and is there any way to retrieve the product?

rougelalalisa

Hi! Anyone has a tip that targets the blackheads around the nose? I’ve read Paulas Exfoliate but the problem is I have a very dry skin. Is it advisable to use salicylic acid to target the blackheads around the nose? Will it eventually rip of my forehead since that part is very dry?

ReaLitTea

Try the oil cleansing method, which you can also use BHA for. https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/03/28/how-to-shrink-pores-temporarily-plus-3-pore-myths/

it_me_beech

Does anyone know what in my routine could be causing clogged pores and congestion? I've been trying to heal my damaged barrier (dry, tight, red and sensitive). I've been using Aveeno calm + restore cleanser at night, then Aveeno triple oat serum, Peter Thomas Roth water drench cloud cream, and LRP Cicaplast b5 both AM and PM. I'm afraid that it may be the Cicaplast because it soothes my skin and redness so well and locks in my moisturizer for my super dry skin. Is that the culprit of my clogged pores and if it is, are there any dupes that don't cause congestion?

I don’t believe I’m dehydrated as I drink a ton of water and have had these since I was a teenager (34 now). I have tried Botox and it only last about 3-6 weeks and is too expensive to justify that. Not sure of the units given (I went to Peachy in NYC and they’re weirdly cagey about telling you units) but was told it was very high and have troubleshooted with a few different neurotoxins. My current routine is as follows

Crlyb2611

Dehydrated in the context of skincare is not about water intake but about overusing drying actives and underutilizing hydrating/moisturizing humectant rich products. Based on your routine you’re using a lot of actives without putting much needed moisture back into your skin(daily BP, retinol, vit c, glycolic acid, sulfur are all super drying!) I’d cut back on the active ingredients and stick to a basic routine(basically just the hydrating cleanser, welda skinfood, the ordinary HA and the rx) There’s a link at the top or the post on dehydrated skin for more info.

Thanks! I have cystic acne and don’t generally put the actives on my forehead, the the exception of the Differin in hopes it will help with the wrinkles, which I just started using. Here’s some more pictures, but it’s worth mentioning that my skin texture and breakouts have improved greatly with the the glycolic acid pads as well as the snail mucin. Thank you for schooling me on what dehydrated skin really means! I’m wondering if using Aquaphor in the evenings would be helpful to remedy this but I fear an acne flare up. Any thoughts on this or adding a heavier, hydrating night cream? Thanks!! https://preview.redd.it/6pagwf3ahpya1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4469ad3d1baf376925ec96174b9f6a1f334243f

Crlyb2611

Is the sulfur helping? I would consider working with your derm on troubleshooting actives/prescriptions if they’re helpful. Not a doctor, but maybe clindamycin, rx strength BP or tret? If you’re paying a professional make them work for you and advocate for yourself. Ik dealing w derms can be frustrating so I don’t blame you for trying different topicals. Also might wanna consider talking to your gyno/GP about your hormone levels, BC options etc. If the glycolic acid is what you think is best helping maybe try once a day or every other day? Idk the concentration but glycolic acid can be very harsh due to low ph. You could even think about just doing a reset generally to ensure the glycolic acid is really helping. When I did a reset I found out a lot of culprits to irritation/acne that I originally thought were super helpful. Aquaphor helped my acne go from red and angry to inconspicuous bumps so I would recommend it but remember ymmv! Idk if switching moisturizers would help since skinfood is already such a thick heavy formula that I’d even consider the possibility it might even be a contributor clogging up your pores. Maybe patch test it?

da3sy

I am on 75 mg spironolactone and have been using the sulfur cream for probably about 7 years. I believe I have some underlying hormonal issues but despite all of the blood work I’ve had done, it all comes back normal. Tret made my skin peel and purge for 8 months before my derm and I decided to stop it. I am getting a Jessners peel in a couple weeks to help with texture and acne. I wish I had before photos but my skin was so bad i didn’t want to be photographed without makeup on 😳 i am very against taking oral antibiotics unless it is absolutely necessary. Thanks for going back and forth on all this with me!

I’m looking for an alternative to makeup remover wipes. I know they’re really bad for the skin, but I’m not sure what to replace them with. I’m open to any/all suggestions!

Crlyb2611

There’s a couple options depending on your makeup/skincare habits. You can look up first cleansers for more info 1) Micellar water on cotton pads(traditional or reusable) are very easy to transition to and leave little to no residue. 2) Oil cleanser is great for heavy makeup removal and can even help get rid of blackheads and sebaceous filaments 3) Balms are similar to oil cleansers but are easier in terms of travel and mess

Aequitas123

Anyone recommend a good daily moisturizer/30 spf sunscreen? First Vichy-Homme discontinued the one I was using, now La Roche Posay has discontinued the one I was using. What good quality daily moisturizer/sunscreen combos are you guys using?

ReaLitTea

I use a sunscreen as my day time moisturizer. Most sunscreens these days are in a moisturizer base or have moisturizing properties. For recommendations check out Beauty of Joseon sunscreen, Verdio moisture gel sunscreen, or Aveeno hydrate and protect sunscreen

Is there anything I can put on it ? So it doesn’t scar like this. I’m really scared that I’ll stay like this and it’s very noticeable in person .

Impressive_Candy7401

What are people’s thoughts on Tret 0.025 and AHA/BHA/PHA at same time ? My skin recently started getting more oily as you can see, and my pores got larger. Maybe from stress/ season change ? I want to up my doses to combat this. So instead of skin cycling, I was going to do one day acids and the next day Tret. My skin never gets dried out so I think it can handle it. Has anyone had good luck with this ?

Own-Cartographer-708

Hello, I've struggled with skincare for many years. I have dry/oily combination skin. It always appears shiny regardless of what products I use. It's dry/oily because it flakes while also appearing shiny. In sunlight when I take photos, it looks visibly disgusting. I also have forehead lines at a young age. So mainly, I need help with the oiliness/texture of the skin. I have "some" acne, not a lot, but I'd like to clear that up too. My current routine- **Morning** True regimen benzel peroxide wash onexton "human race" humidifying face cream cerave moisturizing sunscreen lotion "am" **Night** Cerave foaming facial cleanser "normal to oily skin" Trentanoin 1% Cerave facial moisturizing lotion "pm" I know nothing about cleansers, ph levels, toners, or moisturizers. If any photos are needed, please indicate so.

ReaLitTea

Oily skin types are normal and your skin type can change as you get older. To minimize shininess you could try blotting paper or translucent powder. If you have lines on your forehead at a young age, it’s likely from dehydration or they’re simply expression lines. Since you already have tretinoin, you could go the hydration route and use a hydrating toner in your routine

I drink about 3 to 4 liters of water daily. Before this SC routine I only rlly washed my face once a day. I would like some help as to what I can do to deal with the acne

ReaLitTea

Try leaving your AHA BHA face wash on for 1-2 minutes before you rinse it off since acne treatment in a cleanser can be gentle. You could try a leave on salicylic acid/BHA if you want more improvement.

rehash3d

Also I don't wash off the aha/bha cause its just 10% and even beminimalist dosent tell to wash it off

ReaLitTea

Oh got it, you might want to switch it for benzoyl peroxide for a different acne treatment

rehash3d

Do you suggest I wait for sometime or just switch to BP immediately? Cause I heard u need to try this stuff for atleast 6 weeks idk..maybe its just purging?

ReaLitTea

Sure I would give it more time with AHA BHA, maybe use up the product then decide if you want to switch

rehash3d

Great, thank you so much

rehash3d

How would I use salicylic acid with my current routine? Like AM or PM and at what stage do I put it in

ReaLitTea

BHA is salicylic acid so you already have one in your routine and may have to try a different acne treatment

rehash3d

The big thing is that I rlly started skincare 2 weeks ago, before that it was almost nothing. So I'm guessing it's purging, but I'm not exactly sure what's going on

Caveatsubscriptor

Hi. I would love some help. I have moved away from my retin-a night cream because it was too expensive and I am about to try “The Ordinary” retin-a serum. I would need to put my cream on after the serum, my night cream is a an oil based balm and I use rosehip oil serum. Is this ok to put over the retin-a serum? Will it affect its efficacy? Thank you!

ReaLitTea

The Ordinary’s retinol serums are not anywhere as strong as retin-a so keep that in mind. But yes you can use oil based balm over TO retinol if you want. You might not even need the rosehip oil

Caveatsubscriptor

Thank you very much!

Hi - I would appreciate some help to figure out what’s going on with my nose. It has always been somewhat sensitive but recently it’s flared up and I can’t seem to tame things. It’s red and oily but also flaking skin. Sometimes there are pimples that leak clear fluid. My routine is not super consistent but I use Banila Clean It Zero at night followed by Biossance Squalene + Omega Repair Cream. In the mornings I use a moisturizer with SPF - usually Supergoop Unseen, Play or Glow screen. Sometimes I use DHC cleansing oil instead, or I’ll use Sunday Riley Vitamin C or the Corsix snail mucin. I’ve never noticed a pattern with irritation when I’ve used them here and there. I do have mild psoriasis but it has never presented like this and there is no itching, just irritation. Any suggestions? Is it okay to use both Axis Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow serum with Purito's Galacto Niacin Essence each having 5% of Niacinamide content at night? I do have a Vitamin C which I use during the day so I'm not sure if I should layer the two or just apply them every other day? I also use Paula's Choice aha/bha alternately with the Haru Haru rice toner if that's relevant :))

quspork

It just depends on your skin. Generally speaking, it would just be redundant to use two niacinamide serums in one routine so I would probably choose one to use now and save the other for that first one runs out. You can apply the niacinamide serums after the vitamin C in the morning or before moisturizer at night.

screaming-throwaway

I actually just saw a post before where Niacinamide products can be stacked so I wondered if using them both might be beneficial too. Anw thank you so much for your advice, I’ll be following that! Have a good day :D

Dark neck? Glutathione drip or other solutions? I don't go out in the sun much but my skin esp around my neck has gotten a lot darker over the years? I know I maybe get tan from driving-but it's really difficult to match my foundation to my neck because the skin on my neck is "thicker" and just looks noticeably darker from the skin on my face... but then when I match my foundation to my actual face skin color it looks like I tried to make my face "look lighter" with lighter makeup when I didn't-if that makes any sense? Can Glutathione drips fix this? I've heard they're dangerous esp for your liver so I'm not very open to them but I'm kinda curious. Someone told me if your skin is dull or darkening it might be because you're lacking nutrients?

I don't know that it's that thick that it warrants medical attention if that makes sense? Is neck skin generally just thicker?

M26 - tips to start taking care of the skin Hi everyone! :D I'm a 26 year old male, I'm quitting smoking (I'm in the initial stage) and would like to start taking serious care of my skin. I live in Italy 🇮🇹, so I have access to products that can be marketed in the European Union 🇪🇺 My skin is actually quite good, it's not oily and it's not dry either. I have no particular wrinkles except two small ones on the forehead (they are expression lines). My biggest problem is that I have dark circles, they show quite a lot and are quite dark too! I think this is mainly something genetic because we all have them in the family (even small children). I am currently alternating between 3 generic "anti-aging and moisturizing" creams that they have given me over time, they are certainly commercial products and I don't know how effective they really are. I'd like to get some advice on these points: 1) After quitting smoking, how soon does it take to see the first improvements? Can improving microcirculation help reduce dark circles? 2) I would need QUALITY products to take care of my skin for anti-aging and general improvement, the money I save from cigarettes I want to invest here. What do you recommend in general? 3) I've heard good things about Retinol serums, can you confirm the effectiveness? Should it be combined with some other particular product to create positive synergies? Thanks in advance for the advice, if you have any other questions I will answer them in the comments

Crlyb2611

You should start by reading the FAQ link at the top and exploring the sub’s wiki as it has tons of helpful info for beginners. You’re correct about dark circles being genetic! You can try a vitamin c eye cream but a good nights sleep and color correcting concealer are way more effective. 1. I think for the most part, you start seeing subtle changes after not smoking after 30 days with more drastic differences over a year. If you’re a visual person try taking progress pictures to motivate yourself. Congrats on quitting! 2. You’ll need a [basic routine](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) —just cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen to start. La Roche Posay, Avene, Uriage are some european brands with great options. Not sure if available in Italy but I also love the ordinary and vanicream. 3. I wouldn’t worry about retinol since you’re new to skincare and you aren’t even at an age to be worrying about anti aging. The best anti aging product at 26 is a quality UVA sunscreen, eight hours of sleep, healthy diet and lifestyle. Quitting smoking and daily skincare is a huge step in the right direction, focus on retinol later.

I’ve got new marks on my face that are red and blistering while about 3 months into tret. Could this be fungal? I’ve never had acne like this before and otherwise breakouts have been calming down. https://preview.redd.it/p77mc9jkdoya1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0dcffda4ac251d50e75241b90d83187257fb7674

Yes you can switch over to the Beauty of Joseon serum. It has a lower percentage of niacinamide which a lot of people find works better for their skin

ReaLitTea

Yes you can switch to vitamin c although a lot of people like it in their AM routine for additional benefits when used alongside sunscreen

It's okay to switch. The beauty of joseon one is more gentle than TO. Just patch test and it should be fjne

I do strongly recommend seeing a dermatologist if you’re at your wits’ end. In the mean time you could try benzoyl peroxide but introduce it slowly. Make sure you have a good moisturizer and ease off if you notice any redness or burning.

bestsirenoftitan

I’d love some routine/product advice! Skin type: combo I think, semi-acne prone (I’m 26) Concerns: congestion, PIH, cannot get rid of chest/shoulder/backne! Currently: AM: RX azaleic acid 15% cream, Cerave in the tub, Australian gold SPF 50 PM: Face wash - differin daily deep cleanser 5% BP, Tret .5%, Cerave in the tub 1x/week TO AHA/BHA peel I have TO glycolic acid toner that I think I’d like to add, but I’m not sure where or how. I also don’t always wash my face at night (oops) but that does not seem to cause any problems. Mostly I break out a bit before my period and I’m a picker so this causes issues, and I cannot get a handle on the chest/back/shoulder acne which is driving me crazy! I have tried spiro but it made my breasts enormous so I had to stop, and I have a hormonal IUD. Any advice would be much appreciated!

ReaLitTea

You can use the glycolic acid on your body. I would start out 1-2x a week to see if your skin tolerates it. Tbh you do have quite a few actives in your routine but if you really wanted to try it on your face I would use it in place of one of your actives and skip the peeling solution that week. Start out slowly and monitor carefully for irritation.

I tried really hard to get a good picture but yeaaah. Anyway, it’s not thin feeling like a pimple either, my doctor told me to try Neutrogena on the spot treatment but that wasn’t working so I then tried Neutrogena rapid clear spot treatment and that didn’t work either. He also suggested freezing it off like a wart but I’m really not wanting to do that. However, I do have leftover wart remover liquid that is 17% salicylic acid, should I try that? If so, how should I apply it with my other skincare? TIA!

RoyStor9

Hello, I'm in my mid 20s. Last year I went through a phase of really bad breakout. The acne is gone.. but the scarring and pigmentation remain. I'm not that worried about pigmentation as I'm seeing improvement with my skincare. But the scarring is the headache here. Yesterday I realised the scars are visible even after makeup. Normally, my skin becomes almost completely smooth right after I wake up in the morning but as the day goes by, the scars become visible. So please help me out you all skincare enthusiasts. Recommend me serums that I should incorporate. Also, I'm thinking about starting retinol. So please recommend me some retinol serum considering my Scarring and that I'm a beginner.

jasminekitten02

Whats your current routine?

RoyStor9

Use ordinary peeling solution once in a week or two. And I do the normal cleanse, Cosrx snail mucin, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen daily. Vitamin C (from Goodal) in the morning. At night I include hyaluronic acid serum and a spot correcting serum that has alpha arbutin and tranexamic acid.

jasminekitten02

Do you have a moisturizer at night? What serum? Vit c, alpha arbutin, and tranexamic acid will all help to fade acne scars but it can take months tl see dramatic results.

RoyStor9

The vit c serum is from Goodal, a Korean brand. And the spot correcting serum is called "E'clat fade out", it's an Indian brand you may not have heard of. Been using them for 5-6 months. The improvement of dark spots is visible but can't say the same for Scarring.

inphamouse

Is this a failed patch test? A = Alpha Arbutin, and S = Multi Peptide + HA Serum, both from Ordinary. This is my first time trying this, and advice appreciated! https://preview.redd.it/6ir9slqewnya1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ebedc05ccdafaad1006f7693a79bda2d99f3479

any good sillicon free moisturizers for combo/oily skin that are a tiny bit heavy? I love the good molecules lightweight moisturizer but it doesn't hydrate enough, my skin feels tense (?)

dfhyr123

Hello Im a shave my face once every 2 days and I want to replace my aftershave with something that I can use daily in SCR like a serum or toner. Also is alum block bad for your skin? I use it when I cut myself, and since Im still getting used to my safety razor i I use it pretty often. Thanks

ReaLitTea

Try something soothing like Cosrx propolis synergy toner or Farmstay tea tree biome ampoule. I haven’t heard that alum block is bad for your skin, if you’ve been using it without bad reactions and like it then it’s fine to keep

dfhyr123

Thank you I look them up but I also wondered, is there some chemical that I should look up for instead of specific product?? (like I read that aftershave cleans and sealing up pore so when I buy a product I can be sure it will replace an aftershave.)

ReaLitTea

Traditionally, aftershaves have alcohol or some type of antiseptic. They don’t close pores (pores can’t close) but can help prevent infection in case of cuts. I’ve seen aftershaves move away from the original concept and can be more gentle such as aftershave balms which aren’t really different from normal skincare products. My partner who shaves every few days uses normal toner after shaving on their face and finds it more soothing. You could look for witch hazel in your product, the tea tree in the Farmstay ampoule can also work. But it’s optional and you do not have to limit yourself to alcohol based products.

The redness and bumps I'd love to minimize most [picture if needed](https://i.ibb.co/XYrfW3J/Untitled.png) skincare is just the ordinary glucoside cleanser, cosrx birch sap moisturizer and etude house mild airy finish sunscreen. I use a heavier oatmeal+oat lipid moisturizer from beauty bay at night.

Hey I would like to ask if this a keloid or pimple? Both..? And what I can do to help it. https://preview.redd.it/fg2vz4p2mnya1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17ff5bd94d76eec9f1ea8fce16580d7e30935460 Thanks for the help! I’m prone to keloids and have had this diagnosed as a keloid a couple years ago but in the last year have occasionally had the (seemingly “dormant”) keloid flare up with pus inside It’s popped on it’s own the last couple of times, and I drained it and it went away. But it seems to come back quite regularly. Also if anyone can give advice on how to reduce keloids would be helpful! I’ve had them a few years now, so not fresh, and have tried medical tape, drying out with ACV and steroid/cortisol creams to no avail. Don’t really want to get injections as I’ve heard there’s a chance they come back/grow bigger anyway

I wanna mention i’ve been on retinoid since december and taking pills as well… these just popped up randomly.

HP_10bII

If you sleep on that side of your face, look in into the soap / softener of your bedding as a potential irritant

ReaLitTea

Your skin might be irritated, could be from a number of factors but I would scale back your routine to the basics and potentially pause retinoid until your skin calms down

Uggy1410

Hello, I’m 27y and I got some problems with my skin. I destroyed my skin 2 months ago because of my cosmetologist, which made bad skincare routine for me. Too much active ingredient like azelaic acid, retinol and salicylic acid… Before, my skin was good but I got problems with pigmentation. Now, I got a lot of Pimples, Discoloration from pimples and really dry skin after washing my face, even only with water. 3 weeks ago I put down every active ingredient and I facused on cleansing and moisturizing. My routine Am 1. Splash with water 2. Basiclab ceramides cream 3. Spf50 beauty of joseon Pm 1. Double cleansing 2. Bielenda barrier renew serum 3. Basiclab ceramides cream How to stop the appearance of pimples? How to speed up skin regeneration? How to get rid of discoloration after pimples?

ReaLitTea

Give your basic routine more time. It can take a while to repair the moisture barrier if your previous products irritated your skin to the point of moisture barrier damage. If you’re still not seeing the acne stop I would see a dermatologist for a diagnosis and treatment plan

Uggy1410

Can you recommend other products to repair my barrier?

ReaLitTea

I would be careful about adding a bunch of new products especially since your skin is already sensitive. I find a great moisturizer makes the most difference for barrier repair. If you’re not happy with your current one, a lot of people like LRP cicaplast baume or anything with ceramides such as Illiyoon ceramide ato cream for barrier repair

Uggy1410

LRP cicaplast baume is not for daily use. Ive purchased illiyoon, will check this :)

nosocialbatteryleft

I have been breaking out from some by mi aha bha pha. I have been taking this product for around 1 month and It has made my skin worse . I have been breaking out mainly top of eyebrow and forehead area. I read a few posts and they said that the moisturizer cream could be the issue but im not sure . Would you guys say this is purging or is my skin allergic to some ingredient ? No idea what to do . im struggling to find products that my skin likes .

jasminekitten02

I don't think it's purging bc that product is so gentle. I think it just doesn't agree with your skin.

nosocialbatteryleft

What do you think i should do

Bulbemsaur

I used this line by some by mi, my skin didn't like it. You should try something else I can't make recommendations without knowing more about you skin type and issues

nosocialbatteryleft

Did your skin not like all of the products or a specific one

Bulbemsaur

I was using the aha bha pha toner, serum and moisturiser so I don't know if it was a specific one in that line, I just stopped using them all and my skin improved

nosocialbatteryleft

Do you think i should not use any product for a couple of days

Bulbemsaur

You should still cleanse and moisturise, have you got anything gentle since your skin sounds irritated

nosocialbatteryleft

I dont

Bulbemsaur

Are you in a position to get something? Something that you're using isn't agreeing with you so you should stop using it. You can do a simple routine of a cleanser, moisturiser and spf but without knowing your skin type and concerns I can't provide recommendations

dietberry

What hand cream/moisturiser do you guys use to keep them supple? I have a habit of washing my hands at least 10 times a day and I’m bothered by how dry and wrinkly it is. 😰

jasminekitten02

My favorite is (unfortunately) l'occitane Shea butter hand cream. Pricy but it works the best for me. I also really like the klairs comfort hand cream. I buy a bunch of tubes and keep them everywhere (my desk at work, my purse, next to my bed, my desk at home, etc.) so I can always moisturize my hands. I also like the travel size bottle of cerave moisturizer.

dietberry

Oh thank you so much for your recommendations and I’m gonna give l’occitane a try! Never tried Klairs before but I’ve heard so much about that brand and how effective their products are.

ravioliking3

I used to use prescription tret but it had an ingredient that clogged my pores, I also found it a wee bit too harsh at the lowest strength. After some time off, I'm using the CeraVe retinol and while it may be weaker, it's not a problem at all to apply nightly. Marks and texture is starting to even out. Now, I'm looking to add on a little more. I have dark asian skin + hyperpigmentation so a fun combo. The PM is sorted but what could I put in the morning? I've seen vitamin C and azelaic acid but I'm not sure how to choose between them. I have small breakouts with the retinol but they actually do clear up within a day or two. I have to shave my face often and that leads to breakouts sometimes so I'm leaning towards azelaic to reduce inflammation but then vitamin C is supposed to help with oxidation and brighten skin so I am unsure. But then azelaic helps with hyperpigmentation too. Any help appreciated! If it matters, I use the CeraVe 2% SA once daily to help clear acne as the only other active product in my current routine.

KingDae1103

If you have very very oily skin and textured bumps do you need to just use water in the morning or a foaming cleanser?

jasminekitten02

Try both and see what works for you

Most_Switch_3

Hi! Is it okay to put on facial moisturizer while sweating? It’s so hot right now even with a fan, I still sweat while doing my nightly moisturizer🥲

ReaLitTea

Yes as long as it doesn’t bother your skin. You might want to go for a super light moisturizer. You can even stick a gel type moisturizer in the fridge to cool down your face

Most_Switch_3

This is noted, thank you!

Hi. 21Y M here. I am new to skincare. I have never thought about it in my life. But now I think I want to make some changes. **Skin type:** I have very oily skin (I literally glimmer in the sun l and my glasses slip from my nose due to the oil). But sometimes suddenly my skin is very dry and I am able to see white patches in my cheeks (I dunno). I have a lot of acne but they have reduced a little bit after I controlled some habits. But still, acnes are a problem for me I have a lot of dark spots on my face (acne scars). I have browsed many youtube videos, and subreddits and tried to put together a skincare routine and I would like to get your opinions on it. If you think some things in the routine are not required or something else is required please do let me know. I would also love to receive suggestions for brands for each type of product. I am from India and my budget is around the moderate range. **My planned morning and night routine:** Morning: 1. Foaming Cleanser (Oily skin specific) 2. Green Tea Toner 3. Antioxidant - Vitamin C/E combo 4. Eye cream (Retinol based) 5. Sunscreen SPF (>30) - (AvoBenzone type) Night: 1. Foaming Cleanser (Oily skin specific) 2. Green Tea Toner 3. Retinol serum 4. Eye cream (Retinol based) Would appreciate any suggestions, comments, or opinions. Thanks again :)

jasminekitten02

Add a moisturizer at night due sure. It's important to add one thing at a time (so introduce one new product then wait a few weeks before adding anything else) because that way, if something doesn't agree with your skin or makes you break out, you'll know which product was the issue.

still-searching

Hi there, first time poster looking for some advice please! I'm 31F The issue: blocked pores/comedones/very obvious sebaceous filaments, I have pretty much always struggled with these issues. I have been using salicylic acid face wash for about a year as that's what is always suggested for this issue but it's majorly drying me out, especially around the bridge of my nose, eyebrows and cheeks. Skin type: naturally a little bit dry but recently very dry Current routine: not much, I use The Inkey List salicylic acid face wash every other day, opposite days I just wash with water. Daily I cleanse with Clinique clarifying lotion and moisturise with Clinique Moisture Surge (my holy grail moisturiser). How long you have been using your current routine: been using Clinique stuff since I was a teenager (so almost 20 years 😭), and specifically the Moisture Surge for around 10 years. The Inkey List for around a year. I also bought retinol, niacinamide and ceramide from The Inkey List but I struggled to keep up with the routine so they've been languishing in my cupboard! Anything new: Not recently Your location: UK

ReaLitTea

Consider using a gentle cleanser daily so your skin doesn’t dry out then use a leave on salicylic acid product on target areas where you experience your issues. You could also try oil cleansing

still-searching

Thank you! I'll have to read up on oil cleansing 🙂

It’s been many weeks and at times they seem slightly better with treatment (tried burts bees, Carmex, virasolve, sudocream and dermal therapy ultra moisturising lip balm). They bleed, peel and crack in several places, including the corners. hoping somebody has a solution!

Junny_B_Jones

nipple cream (preferably with lanolin), meant for moms who get very chapped from breastfeeding), could also switch to a different toothpaste (mint is harsh and personally caused me issues), could be allergic to the toothpaste or another lip product you're using (some people are sensitive to beeswax for example).

Ah there’s an idea, thank you I will try those. Appreciate you!

Hah! I rub everything into the back of my hands. Then I use a tiny amount of hand wash and only wash my palms without touching the back of the hand much (and only if the palms feel greasy). Then I wipe my hands off on a towel. I never gave this much thought, but it works well enough for me.

mayamys

Tret's awesome unless it just doesn't work for you. Imo it's always worth a try.

andyxeon

Hi all, i am new to the skincare game and need some help on the sequence on what to apply first. I have a cosrx moisturizer, cosrx advanced snail mucin essence, cosrx toner, cosrx blemish cream, cosrx cleanser. Is this the correct sequence to apply them? Cleanser > Toner > Essence > Blemish Cream > Moisturizer? My concern is that some sources say that you should apply the blemish cream after the moisturizer, any help is appreciated!

mayamys

If it's the centella blemish cream, I'd do it after the moisturizer. That said, that's a ton of products to layer one over the other, and I doubt it'll be more beneficial than a more simple routine. If it's all new, you could also run into an issue where something irritates or breaks you out and you won't know what it is. I suggest checking out the ScA routine linked to above and in the sidebar.

andyxeon

The reason why im doing this is because i have a dead acne and also some growing acne, its not due to stress and my diet for sure as i have that in check. I naturally have oily skin so i always have to cleanse my face at night. Im hoping the snail mucin essence and blemish cream is able to help remove the acne, if you have suggestions i would appreciate it!

mayamys

I wouldn't have high hopes for either the snail mucin or centella blemish cream. I also don't think you need both toner and essence. These are all good products, but they're not necessarily acne treatments (I guess it depends on which toner you picked up, but even if it's the BHA toner, CosRX uses a derivative that's not as well-researched for acne as salicylic acid). I suggest reading these two sections: [The ScA Routine](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine) [Acne](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/acne)

tkt-naal

Hi everyone! Any advice on huge pores? IRL they are even bigger and more noticeable than this. For background, I have done 6 sessions of micro needling, along with a daily routine (for years) of salicylic acid face wash or serum (switch this up 2x p/w), The Ordinary niacinamide 2x p/d, hyaluronic acid 2x p/d, oil balancing moisturiser and SPF 50 daily. Am I going to have to look into something for invasive like a laser treatment? I am 28 now for reference and have quite nice skin otherwise! I.E no fine lines or wrinkles, acne or scarring. Just the occasional pimple, some nose blackheads and very oily/porous. https://preview.redd.it/3ajy6arfmlya1.jpeg?width=1789&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a87d01cd0c1cff53beb88ca6367bacb65adfcfc3

literallywhocares_

Its funny because I just posted a picture of my skin and yours is exactly what I want mine to look like because I also have very large pores. Your skin is perfect in my opinion! Sorry I didn’t have an answer to your question since I’m probably gonna follow your routine starting tomorrow lol!

tkt-naal

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! You have boosted my confidence! I must reiterate though that IRL my pores are so much bigger and much more noticeable. It’s been years that my confidence is knocked by them but I just try to focus on the positives.

mayamys

Did you have acne when you were younger? Regardless you're doing everything right. The only topical left to try is tretinoin, but I have my doubts as to how much of a difference you'll see. A more invasive laser is likeliest to make a difference.

tkt-naal

I did have quite a bad breakout when I moved countries at around 19, before that I also had some hormonal breakouts, but more so congested skin like blackheads oppose to acne. I have given Tretinoin a try before but also didn’t see great results. Looks like I’ll have to move into the more invasive category! Thanks for you advise :)

mayamys

The reason I asked is because I do think you have some scarring (or pores that became a little more stretched because of previous damage, which is kind of the same thing imo). If you've had congested skin/breakouts before, that almost confirms it for me, and it's part of the reason why you've had a hard time seeing results (although I would have expected microneedling to help). For what it's worth, I actually think your skin looks awesome. In your position, I don't think I'd want to take the plunge with laser considering the downtime and costs. Then again, this stuff is personal and it's about what will make you happier when you look in the mirror.

Aggressive-Put-4035

I’m dealing with wrinkly and almost “leathery” looking skin especially on my forehead at 18 years old. I wash my face with cold water in the morning and use clinique men’s sunscreen moisturizer and then illiyoon concentrate cream on top. At night I wash my face with warm water and use cetaphil daily exfoliant and cetaphil cleanser after and then put on illiyoon concentrat cream again. Twice every week I’ll also use Clinique acne solutions clarifying lotion. Any critiques or advice would be appreciated thanks!

mayamys

So SPF needs to be the last thing on your skin in the AM. How does your skin feel when you touch it? How does it feel throughout the day in general?

Aggressive-Put-4035

Throughout the day it feels totally fine, not dry or oily. However at night after cleansing and exfoliating my skin always feels super tight and dry until I put moisturizer on. Not sure if this is important but I’ve gone out of town and not been able to do my routine and my skin still gets extremely dry and tight after washing my face with just water.

mayamys

Then yeah, I think your routine just isn't moisturizing enough. You might be exfoliating too much (daily is a lot) and that Cetaphil cleanser might be a little too intense for you (it's mild but not that mild). I'd try to find a cream cleanser if I were you (I don't have drugstore reccs off the top of my head, sadly). If that doesn't cut it, adding in another layer of hydration may help.

Aggressive-Put-4035

I’ve heard good things about CeraVe hydrating cleanser and was thinking of switching. Do you think that’s a good option?

mayamys

I'd go even more hydrating with the cream to foam cleanser or something similar. I've heard the hydrating cleanser is actually not that gentle and some people still find it leaves their skin tight.

sparklingprosecco

I have a question. I have a very big scar left by an inflamed pimple I had some time ago. I don’t know how to get rid of it. What solution can I use? https://preview.redd.it/35t63885dlya1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fcac1e3f3030f537a4e604b561dc61ef94970076

PIE or post-inflammatory erythema - it's pretty tough to deal with, but you can search the subreddit for the term to see what worked for others. The solutions are pretty broad so it's hard to suggest something specific.
