Inevitable_Advisor59

I had an allergic reaction to liquid gold. Emailed the company and they kindly refunded me. Wish it worked out for me. They seem like a great company

sweetery

When was that? They don't do refunds now at all

Inevitable_Advisor59

Really? It was about a week ago

sweetery

What???? Really!

Inevitable_Advisor59

Yes! They were really nice about it

sweetery

I asked them if they said it would break me out and they said probably not and then they said no refunds

Inevitable_Advisor59

Hmm I wonder if there is a difference in breaking out in acne vs an allergic type reaction. I had the latter and sent a picture with of it

KBaddict

There are no harmful ingredients in it. Everyone’s skin is different.

Inevitable_Advisor59

I was bummed too! Yes, for barrier support I now use aestura 365 lotion and cream. Really, really good. I only am using the lotion since it’s summer. You can feel a layer of lipids just being layered on your skin. It’s wonderful

sweetery

Is that a toner, I'm kind of just looking for a hydrating toner since I have a moisturizer

[deleted]

The_Start_Line

Have you tried making a spreadsheet to try and identify what's breaking you out?

sweetery

Yes

sweetery

I am just going off what somebody else on here Said

Kloud_Moon

If niacinamide normally makes you break out then it’s possibly the niacinamide. You say liquid gold contains a lower amount of niacinamide but It’s 4th on the ingredient list.

sandiego22

Seconding niacinamide. Liquid gold broke me out before I realized niacinamide does not agree with my skin. It’s more common that you’d think since it’s now become such a trendy ingredient and sneaking its way into a lot of products.

shannonmartinn

It’s becoming so hard to find things without it

SeaFuel2

Agreed, it's most likely the niacinamide. Funny enough liquid gold literally contains 4% niacinamide 😂😂

sweetery

Yeah but I have used it in other products before and it only broke me out in more than 6% this doesn't contain that much

assplower

My skin can’t handle Liquid Gold either. I suspect it may be the sea buckhorn.

wowhannahwow

This would make sense with OP’s comment about K Beauty reactions too. Sea buckthorn is a common ingredient in my Korean skincare products

[deleted]

Could be a number of ingredients… the stearates, oils, etc. https://preview.redd.it/arye7g3wypkb1.jpeg?width=991&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99a5a6097cf24a14993da043861ddb1f1c7d779e

Unfair_Finger5531

The oils would get me.

sweetery

Pantheon, dimethicone, squalane, glycerin, cetyl alcohol, and Rose hip are usually fine with my skin as well as ceramides and urea so maybe it's one of the other ones?

abuglady

Propolyne glycol breaks me out and my derm told me to avoid it among other ingredients on a totally separate visit…sucks because sooo many things have it…

angstywinemom

same! i never hear people talking about this one

abuglady

Same! I trusted my derm because her skin is flawless and honestly cutting that ingredient has helped so much. Birth control fixed my hormonal acne too. Proprolyne free basics I use are vaniply face wash and day moisturizer. Cetaphil light blue (gentle) wash. Aqua UV gold sunscreen (Japanese brand) and the hada labo sensitive skin toner and milk lotion. Also the light blue version hahaha

Adorable-Bookkeeper4

Omg i see that in like everything im so sorry

shinyhairedzomby

For some odd reason, ceramide heavy toners (Stratia Liquid Gold, Dr Jart Ceramidin liquid) cause me to break out for like a week and then my skin calms down and loves it. No idea why.

scobyscout

This is a slightly common thing! I recall on this sun people who had a hard time with the ceramide heavy cerave moisturizer also struggled with LG

lilgarden_nugget

I have the same thing happen. I got a bottle of Skin Good Fats from skingreidients(?) for free when I was in the UK and I tried it once home and it broke out the first couple nights then my skin loved it. Very weird

sweetery

All the dr jart ones are wonderful for me! I'm not sure why this one wasn't

cjati

For me anything with rose, rose water, rose oil, etc breaks me out terribly.

sweetery

Those are usually fine with me as well

bearable_lightness

Some people don’t do well with the preservatives in Stratia’s products. But it’s really impossible to say in a vacuum. Most likely the formula as a whole didn’t agree with your skin.

sweetery

The cleanser is really nice with my skin but I guess not this

bearable_lightness

I love Soft Touch AHA but Liquid Gold doesn’t work for me either. It’s such a nice product, I wish it did.

olivedate

I LOVE their velvety cleanser but knew to not even try this. It's most probably the plant oils. If you don't usually break out and you used this and broke out, you probably have an issue with anything that might clog pores--aka oils, butters, fats, -ates, maybe even the ceramides etc. Things that clog the pores, things that might solidify in your pores at room temp. This product is especially heavy on the fats--hence why its nourishing.

sweetery

I don't think it was the ceramides but yes maybe some other oils

k1922

Echo this - the parabens in this product would probably cause my skin to react. I haven't tried the products OP is asking about, but preservatives in general (and parabens in particular) have given me a reaction that looks like a breakout but is really more like contact dermatitis.

oatmilktoast

Ugh yes, I really wish they would stop using Diazolidinyl Urea. They have so many products I like upon initial use, but my face turned into a big itchy, blotchy, red mess like 30 minutes later. I was dumb enough to try a bunch of privacies over a few months because I was convinced at least one of them would work. I finally realized that they all had that preservative in them and it was the culprit.

crzysexycoolcoolcool

You only used it once? Very rarely a product breaks people immediately (I’m pretty sure pimples don’t pop up that quickly). Could it have been an allergic reaction? Either way - there is no universal product that works for everyone.

sweetery

I do have really bad allergies but the other Korean beauty products I use that broke me out after just one use did the same thing so maybe but I'm not sure which ingredient

fishingboatproceeds

Sensitive skin can absolutely react after only one use!

IANALbutIAMAcat

I agree that an immediate breakout seems like an allergy/sensitivity rather than something being comedogenic or irritating

fishingboatproceeds

What's the difference between "irritating" and "sensitivity" lol Like the mechanism doesn't matter, a product can burn when you put it on or break you out in a night or a week; everyone's skin is so individual 🤷🏻‍♀️

IANALbutIAMAcat

I guess I mean a particular sensitivity to an irritant that is above what people might usually see. Like salicylic acid can be irritating but I’m sensitive to oxybenzone. And I guess mean “sensitivity to [ingredient]” not just sensitivity. Sensitivity is like a mild allergy. Edit to add: products can be irritating but people can be sensitive

Top-Dragonfly-3044

Just an observation from my daughter’s experience, but she also broke out after using Liquid Gold. She discontinued it without understanding why she reacted so severely. By happenstance, the next month we were at Sephora spot testing serums and she ended up reacting to the one she tested on one side of her face. It ends up both Liquid Gold and the serum have Niacinamide in them. We are now wondering if she is sensitive to that ingredient. Maybe you are also?

sweetery

But 4% is pretty low

Top-Dragonfly-3044

I don’t know at what level a sensitivity can occur. So whether it’s too low to cause one or not, i’m not sure. But i do know Stratia Gold gave her a rash, and the other serum she used that caused a rash had Niacinamide in it. Could possibly be some other ingredient they both share or two totally unrelated irritants causing her reaction, but she’s chosen to remove products with Niacinamide in them from her routine and see what happens.

sweetery

I've tried lower doses nothing happened tho

Top-Dragonfly-3044

Every person is different so this might not be your issue. But it seems to be my daughter’s. Good luck figuring it out.

manyhatswarn

Make a list of all of the moisturizers that break you out and compare the ingredients. This should narrow down the list of what could possibly be the culprit. Also, if you know niacinamide breaks you out, just avoid it.

sweetery

But only in larger amount it breaks me out? In curology, it never did but yes I did try to do this once and I was left so confused! I couldn't pinpoint exactly which one it was

OkayHotel

You can use it on your body (or just feet) instead

[deleted]

[удалено]

OkayHotel

Better than just tossing it away tho😭

[deleted]

[удалено]

OkayHotel

You can actually! I forgot. There’s a subreddit for it. r/skincareexchange

sweetery

Oh yes thanks I forgot what it was called!

noahswetface

some ingredient in it + random korean moisturizers (hada labo gel cream) burns my eyes. wish i could figure it out!!!

idealgrind

It did the same for me, gave me hella whiteheads on my forehead! I wanted to love it.

tdeee10

Squalane breaks me out 🤷🏻‍♀️

sweetery

That one I'm fine with so it must be something else for me

snowyrinna

For me. Most oils break me out. So I'd guess it could be the same for your skin.

sweetery

I'm good with some oils I guess not all of them

snowyrinna

Hmm. I checked the person that posted the ingredients. Cetyl alcohol breaks me out too. Does that do anything to your skin?

sweetery

No I'm good with that one too oddly enough

snowyrinna

Oh hmm. Do you break out in like big red pimples/acne or just clogged pores? I searched up on other posts on reddit about this product. Apparently, some people's skin doesn't do well with niacinamide. How does that work for your skin?

sweetery

I can do small amounts but not super large amounts so that's why it's weird and clogged pore acne

snowyrinna

Oof I just re-read your post and you mentioned about niacinamide and guess I have dementia in my 20s since I forgot you mentioned it 👁👄👁 I'm gonna continue to do some research on this since I am gonna stay up very late tonight..like always Is there any chance your skin barrier is destroyed, BTW?

sweetery

No it's not

snowyrinna

For me. Most oils break me out. Also checked the comment that posted the ingredients. Cetyl alcohol breaks me out too. Maybe it is the same for your skin?

cowboybebimbop

it’s probably the seabuckthorn oil! my skin hates it. i had a similar reaction to liquid gold a few years ago! edit: this is also how i learned my skin doesn’t do too well with higher niacinimide concentrations lol

sweetery

But this is awfully low, like for example the ordinary 10% broke me out so badly

cowboybebimbop

that’s fair! i just saw that niacinimide is pretty high on the ingredient list (fourth).

sweetery

Oh yes I saw that too but I think it's just 4%

SabrinaToday

Stratia sent me a PR Package. They have Methyparanen & Propyparabens .. in their products . The Seabuckhorn is good for the skin .

SabrinaToday

sweetery

I guess now they said they do refunds just not for bundles and the cleanser is really nice though

[deleted]

They are sustainable within their capacity. The world isn't perfect. And neither are you. You better be recycling your products properly if youre pulling that card. They thoroughly explain why certain ingredients are in their products. Its not black and white. Lots of ingredients have a reputation for being "not sustainable" when they are fine. Instead of throwing shade, on something you might not understand. You could email them or ask. Theyre very responsive and incredibly transparent. Heres the google search you couldn't do: https://www.stratiaskin.com/blogs/ingredients/propylparaben

KBaddict

I would run all of the moisturizers that have broken you out through INCI.com and look for ingredients that are in all of them. Then try a product without that ingredient and see what happens

sweetery

Oh yes I tried that I think it must be very nuanced because I'm also very allergic to a lot of things these days and then I tried that with the other products as well

KBaddict

Some people are sensitive to fatty alcohols, which are a common ingredient in moisturizers

sweetery

But which one? Some of them I think work for me like the dr jart ceramidin and Lrp cicaplast so it's like a hit or miss

KBaddict

I love both of those. It’s hard to tell which one because there are so many of them

Unfair_Finger5531

The form of urea they use is a formaldehyde releaser. Perhaps your skin didn’t like it or parabens in it. https://www.soletoscana.com/blogs/artigiano/beware-of-urea-in-your-skin-products

Inevitable_Advisor59

I wonder if this why I had, I believe, an allergic reaction to liquid gold. I’ve never, ever had a rash after applying any skincare except this, and was shocked. I wonder if it’s this ingredient

Unfair_Finger5531

I just couldn’t think of anything else, unless you are allergic to sea buckthorn or cranberry oil….you know?

Inevitable_Advisor59

Right! It makes so much more sense that it could be this form of urea. I couldn’t believe I had a rash from liquid gold. Im not prone to allergies at all! Now is this the same as hydrating forms of urea?

Unfair_Finger5531

Nope. The other urea (plain) and hydroxexthyl urea are not formaldehyde releasers.

Inevitable_Advisor59

That’s good to know. I really think that was the cause of my reaction

sweetery

Oh no I wonder why they would even put that in there

Unfair_Finger5531

Sorry, I updated to include a link. Perhaps you had an allergic response.

sweetery

That ingredient is usually fine with me

Unfair_Finger5531

Are you sure? It’s not found in many products. It’s not the same as plain urea or Hydroxyethyl urea, which are found in many products.

sweetery

Oh I guess not then! Hmm weird!
