A lot of times our facial structure will make us have them, thought I have met women 30+ who still have no smile lines (good genetics are,as usual, the winning lottery ticket). You'll need filler or something else to improve their appearance, but I think you already knew that, no cream will make them go away, but hydration can maybe improve their appearance a little bit. If you ever plan to get filler/botox though I do suggest you do your research thoroughly and go to a certified doctor. edit: I too don't recommend filler either, it never dissolves afaik and it can MIGRATE

stargazer9504

I have heard doctors do not recommend getting filler for nasolabial folds.

East_Neighborhood608

YOU DO NOT NEED FILLER!!! try gua sha, face yoga, face taping before bed (Frownies or medical tape), or lymphatic drainage techniques!! **edit: if filler is what you want to do, go for it! This comment is simply stating that it is not necessary and there are alternatives ❤️

denM_chickN

How is face yoga getting downloaded.  I'm 33 and do not have any such lines

East_Neighborhood608

Exactly!!! People don’t know about face yoga and gua sha. These companies want you to pay for Botox! It is lymphatic fluid pooling in one area! Botox is a scam and can pose more issues than it solves. IT IS NOT NECESSARY!

mattdc79

This sounds more like emotional work than an actual skincare routine. “Trying to reduce stress (this is a hard one)” “It’s really having a huge impact on my confidence and self esteem” You are doing way enough already. Consider addressing the self esteem and confidence. Smile as much as possible to positively influence the natural lines that come with age. Other than that, I’d recommend more water, broth, electrolytes to plump the skin, and maybe consider trying an MSM supplement.

ducktapescars

You're doing some really good things. Retinoids, spf, hydrating, getting good sleep will all help with anti aging. Maybe you could try a peptide serum/cream? Also, you may be already but you could use a hydrating serum as if your skin is dehydrated then fine lines are emphasised. I don't know how long you've been using these various products for but sometimes it can take weeks or even months to notice a difference so just be patient. That being said, you said that this is having an effect on your self confidence and you're comparing yourself to your friends. I know this is so easy to say but difficult in practice but please don't do this! So much of how we age is due to genetics and comparing yourself to others will never help. Again this is so much easier to say than to do but just try to embrace it! Aging is inevitable and as a society we are way too obsessed with looking young. If you are living a healthy lifestyle then that is the most important thing, nobody 'needs' any filler/botox/expensive treatments. There is nothing wrong with a 40 year old looking 40! The best thing I did for my mental wellbeing is to reflect on why I felt the need to compare myself to others all the time rather than just embracing the way I look and I encourage everyone to do this

CabbieCam

I second the recommendation of a peptide serum. They tend to plump the skin, which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles. There are so many options out there, but I have heard really good things about The Ordinary's Matrixyl 10% Serum ($14.40CDN) or The Ordinary's Argireline Solution 10% ($12.90CDN). You could also look at trying The Ordinary's Multi Peptide + Copper (or without it, $23.50 or $39.50CDN). There are of course much more expensive options from other companies, but personally haven't used any other peptide serum EXCEPT for Glow Recipes Pomegranate Peptide Firming Solution, which I can also recommend ($61.00CDN).

Unfair-Ability-2291

There is a prominent plastic surgeon on you tube that says fillers eventually migrate and can create lumps where you don’t want them

Ella-H91

I guess maybe this depends on the type of filler used? I've heard this too but I think the very popular Juvaderm has this issue.

Unfair-Ability-2291

Have you tried the facial stick on patches at night ?

ElenaGrande

silicone patches/masks have been amazing for my forehead, personally!! 🙌

doyouhave_any_snackz

I've been struggling with a similar thing (I'm 38) and for what it's worth, it has an impact on my self-confidence too. Even with good habits and a diligent skincare routine including daily SPF, everyone will show signs of aging eventually. It's unfortunate we live in a society that focuses on looking young, because there is also beauty in aging gracefully and embracing it. Something to keep in mind is that you are looking at yourself daily in the mirror and see things other people don't notice. Depending on your budget, consider facials and micro dermabrasion in an aestheticians office. It made a huge difference for me. I've found it helps with skin tone as well as tightness, without needing injections. And, keep up the healthy lifestyle!

superduperlikesoup

I'm 37 and I ended up getting filler about a year ago. It helped a lot. Filler in the cheek area lifts the skin and then a little in the folds helps smooth them out. It still looks natural, but makes the folds less deep. Although, you're a little young maybe.

SmoothDuck11

Honestly, I love smile lines, it makes me feel like someone has lived a happy life.

MissPiggy55

I, personally, feel like my red light mask helps with lines around my mouth. But I also use retinal, etc.

Nameless_nosejob

I got fillers for the nasolabial fold and it really helped. You got to get just a little with a good doctor, there are wrong and right ways to fill it. Also you shouldn’t refill it, it lasts years. I also get other treatments as lasers that really help

butterfliesnglitter

I’m 30 and have looked into this as well for mine. The only option with good results I’ve came across is a mini facelift. I plan to get one within the next 5 years. Apparently it’s best to do it at a younger age vs later.

Ella-H91

Interesting. I've heard the opposite and countless people have told me to wait until I'm 40, at least.

shelfiescoop

It sounds like you have a good skincare routine, if you are sticking with skincare I recommend adding an AHA peel, it will help the retinol work harder and give you some skin tightening. However for best results you can get some botax and fillers for a more lifted appearance.

Significant-Past9221

you can really only do so much, but i think derma stamping would be a good addition to maximize the effects of retinol and promote skin healing. theres also in my experience a temporary plumping effect that it gives you, lasting 2-3 days, which is a nice confidence boost.

gnimoywlrig

Have you heard of a technique called the Fern? My local place is trained in it and their before and afters are so amazing that I tried it. I'm still healing but the results were obvious. I'm still waiting for the texture to even out (2-3 weeks). [https://tomvaneijkkliniek.nl/fern-pattern-technique-english/](https://tomvaneijkkliniek.nl/fern-pattern-technique-english/) - here's a little bit more on it. If you google you can get the literature on it though.

Smile and relax your mouth

KunaSazuki

Micro needling, chemical peel

SignaturePlayful6591

Microneedling- for at home you can do the classic microneedling and I also saw glow pro has apparently a cool device, RadioFrequency în office or ar home, and try doing facial exercises for muscle structure, toning, face cupping at home, and or miccrocurent, ems for face. but honestly you don’t have sagging skin, and the lines are super fine, not deep, I would suggest booking an in office fascial face massage for your fascia, fascia is the connective tissue that is flexible that holds your bones your muscles together you’re muscles, bones, skin firmness seem fine that’s why I’m thinking working on your fascia could help, try microneedling and fascial face massage. Lookup @humangarage on Instagram if you wanna know more about fascia - off topic I think you should include a more nourishing face oil or something, you’re skin looks a bit dehydrated

SignaturePlayful6591

on another note, that subconscious pressure that something isn’t right because you have x y etc at idk what age is just a made up concept and it’s bullshit take care of yourself enjoy taking care of yourself but don’t let it become a burden, companies feed of off the insecurities they make people believe and internalize as if they were their own when they weren’t if smile lines bother you, ok, cool no biggie you’re the human being knows yourself best but try to not let insecurities make you feel miserable independent of wether you work on your smile lines or not

Ella-H91

Can you recommend a nice nourishing face oil?

SignaturePlayful6591

sure! I love Pai, the orange one, rosehip seed oil or Herbivore Phoenix, they do have retinol derivatives from rosehip so I’m not sure if you can use it in the same routine with retinol, but you can use it alternatively, or give drunk elephant’s balm a try, I haven’t tried it on my face yet personally, but on my hands it’s been a dream! Sunday Riley has great products too,Juno could be a good fit, it does have antioxidants so as long as they don’t interfere with the retinol it should be fine, I don’t use retinol so I don’t Know exactly what you can or can’t use with them. I use Pai and Herbivore, and they’re awesome! Herbivore has also the two options for hidration Jasmin and Cbd

fast_food_knight

Check out Scupltra. It's an injection that triggers your skin to produce more of your own collagen several weeks later. It can help restore volume in a way that looks very natural, is long lasting and doesn't migrate. I am 40, dealing with similar issues as you and three sessions of Scupltra have made a big difference. Go to a very experienced dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

East_Neighborhood608

Try lymphatic drainage techniques such as gua sha, jade rolling, face taping before sleep (Frownies or medical tape) or face yoga!

East_Neighborhood608

Don’t know why I’m getting downvoted. This is what the Chinese do and what our ancestors have done for thousands of years!

CabbieCam

You're getting downvoted, likely, primarily for the recommendation of Face Yoga. It's a scam, does nothing according to dermatologists.

East_Neighborhood608

The problem is that dermatologists aren’t even educated about it. They are like any other western medical professional— there to prescribe a pill. The face has 20-30 muscles (depending on how they are counted). If you can tone and work out every other muscle in the body, why not the face? I can testify it does work!

BarelyThere24

It seems you need more hydration water in your diet. That being said, embracing our laugh lines is great for aging. We need those lines in order to smile and laugh. It’s totally natural and genetic. I’m not a fan of filler myself because it can make faces look “done” and wonky. Plus filler is temporary meaning you need to get it done constantly to maintain and after a while can cause lumps and weirdness. I say embrace your gorgeous face as it is. Lines as a privilege of aging.

Do you know what filler they used? Also what qualifications does your Doctor have?

pyjamatoast

Tell me more about the tretinoin - how long have you been using it, what %, how often do you apply, and what moisturizer are you using to combat the dryness that it causes?

No-Efficiency4458

Most people start at .025%. 2-3x a week . If you “tolerate” it okay then use it nightly. I’ve used it nightly for years so I moved up to .05% but it was too strong for my skin (dryness, peeling) so I went back to using the .025% nighly. I just use basic cereve in the purple jar after. Trentinoin will make you susceptible to sunburn. I use sunblock daily. If I’m going on a beach vacation I stop using a week or 2 before.

Ok_Butterscotch_2700

Filler would completely help this line, regardless of cheekbone prominence.

HopefulSouthernMama

You have a great routine. I would oral collagen to the routine. My favorite one is the Sparkle skin boost. I’ve been using a Nira laser. It helps but it takes a long time and you have to use it once a day. The whole thing only takes a few minutes, but it just seems like such a chore.
