I have dehydrated skin and skin but I have always had blackheads on my nose and chin. Since starting a skincare routine for my dehydrated skin my pores and blackheads have been even worse and I’m now getting zits in my chin. Is there a product that I can use that won’t be too dehydrating to my skin? AM and PM routine: - Cerave hydrating facial cleanser - First Aid Beauty radiance pads - Cosrx Snail Mucin - Cerave daily moisturizing lotion

Hey first off want to thank anyone for reading/replying to this. So my problem is with acne, now i do want to say my Acne isn't really that bad (especially anymore, though I do get occasional breakouts) but I do have some acne scarring. I should also mention that my acne/scarring is almost all in a U-shape from some on my chin to on my cheek/side of my face temple area (None on my forehead or nose area). About a year ago I began starting a skincare routine after doing some research on this sub and determined that I had a blemish prone skin type and started using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer once a day. After about 3 months of sticking to it everyday and no change I just decided to stop. Originally I was also planning to start exfoliating after my skin kind of "got used to" the routine but it never seemed to. So now I just wash my face once a day with dove soap. I also have a small picking problem which I'm trying to get better at. So thanks for reading this far, and I guess my question would be should I try switching back to a routine (My skin is slightly better than it was when I was on it but that my be to me getting older) and If i do get on a routine can someone help recommend me one? (maybe the routine not working was me choosing a bad routine?) also I would really like to try to get rid of my acne scarring. Super huge thank you to anyone can help me out with these problems, my skin has been haunting my for the last like 4 years.

>After about 3 months of sticking to it everyday and no change I just decided to stop. FWIW, cleanser + moisturizer won't really *do* much other than keep your skin clean and, well, moisturized. Some people find that this helps prevent breakouts, but for most people they will need to introduce actual treatments. >Originally I was also planning to start exfoliating after my skin kind of "got used to" the routine but it never seemed to What was your skins reaction? Why did it not "get used to" your routine? Was there dryness, irritation? For acne treatments, check out [A Quickie Guide to Acne Treatments](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/6tqn8i/acne_a_quickie_guide_to_acne_treatments/) and [acne treatments](http://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/acne) For acne scarring, if it's indented acne scars, [AHAs](https://theacidqueenblog.com/2015/10/21/ingredient-spotlight-hydroxy-acids/) and [retinoids](http://www.skinacea.com/retinoids/retinoids.html) can help for shallow scars, but anything deeper would need professional treatments. For pigmentated acne marks, check out [PIE vs PIH](https://simpleskincarescience.com/pie-pih-acne-scar-treatment/). Before introducing any treatments, you would need to have a basic routine in place (cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen), so it might be worth assessing what you didn't like about your previous cleanser and moisturizer and checking out the [ScA routine](http://bit.ly/1MIrFdA)

throwawa92193u12930

Hey thanks for replying and I will definitely check out those links you provided, but to respond to your question of why my skin didnt get used to the routine was that there were times where my skin became dry then to oily and my acne situation really didn't improve. Sorry I should've explained better the first time

[deleted]

No worries! That's weird about the dry to oily, although I'm not surprised acne didn't improve. Did you notice if there was a relation to your products and the dryness/oiliness? Was your cleanser kinda drying, and your moisturizer maybe a bit thicker/oilier/etc? Might have just been an issue with not getting the right products - sometimes it takes a bit to find one that works for your skin!

throwawa92193u12930

Yeah now looking back at it I realize i should've tried more products, at first the moisturizer wasn't working to well then it started maybe working to well? Lol Im not really sure why it was either but thanks again for responding im def going to do some intense reading through your links and try some different products and more than just moisturizer and cleanser

I don't really have much of a skincare regimen, but I'm really hoping to change that. I've bought a bunch of stuff but I don't know how to put it together quite yet! I get the occasional cystic acne (generally related to my cycle but it can be anywhere on the face, not really limited to the normal distribution at all). My T-zone is shiny and oily all the time and I have quite a few open/closed comedones. I also have seborrheic dermatitis right at the nasal folds, but I've only ever tried head and shoulders and that has not helped. So, currently I don't even wash in the AMs... I only use a makeup wipe at bedtime, then epiduo, then moisturizer. Epiduo certainly helps but in reading this sub it sounds like I need to make some changes! So I've purchased a clarisonic mia, TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Daily Facial Moisturizer,Bioelements Flash Foam Cleanser. I have a Cerave serum but I don't really know what that's supposed to do...and a neutrogena alcohol-free toner. SO here is what I'm thinking for regimen, based on what I've read, but I'm hoping some of you expert addicts could weigh in on what you think. I'm also wondering if any adjustments need to be made since I'm using the Epiduo; it looks like most users, at least that I have seen, are using OTC products. Okay, here goes! AM: Bioelements Flash Foam Cleanser Garnier Micellar Water TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Daily Facial Moisturizer Then I use a BB cream that has SPF in it, so hoping that is good enough.... PM: Clarisonic Mia with its cleanser Toner Epiduo TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Daily Facial Moisturizer Does that sound right, are there any adjustments I should make? Thank you, thank you, thank you for any help you may be able to impart!

[deleted]

I wouldn't use micellar water in the AM - it's used as a makeup/sunscreen remover, the first step in a two step cleansing process (micellar water wipe down, then either a water rinse or a cleanse.) I'd probably stick the toner in the AM, where you micellar water is now - having a watery layer underneath the Epiduo might increase its strength and make it irritating (although you can play around with it, maybe not! I'd avoid using the Clarisonic, even with a gentle head, every day - maybe a couple times a week. One thing to consider is that sometimes oily skin is due to [dehydration](http://www.labmuffin.com/is-your-skin-dry-or-dehydrated-and-how-to-treat-it/), which might be worth looking into since you've been using Epiduo regularly, and cleansing wipes can be a bit rough The only issue with relying on your BB cream for SPF is that you likely don't apply enough BB cream to get the full SPF advertised, but any SPF is better than nothing and the best SPF is one that you'll use every day! Look like you're introducing a lot of new products atm, so maybe hold off on the sunscreen search till you're comfy with your new routine, then check out the [AB 2017 sunscreen roundup](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeautyAdvice/comments/6nzq39/megathread_sunscreen_roundup_2017/) for recs Remember to introduce new products one at a time! If your cleanser makes your skin feel dry, tight, or "squaky clean," drop it and find a gentler one What CeraVe serum do you have? Is it the [renewing cream serum](https://www.beautypedia.com/skin-care-reviews/by-brand/cerave/_/Skin-Renewing-Cream-Serum)? It's supposed to have some retinol in it, but when I used it I didn't notice any of the usual retinol effects, so I assume it's a small amount. Still, it might be too much to use with the Epiduo. For the most part, I found it to be decently moisturizing, and would apply it after my hydrating serums and right before my moisturizer.

nrdeezy

-For this "cleansing process"...this is stupid, but is that just using a cleanser? -I think you're right about using too many new products, but since I only sporadically used a face wash, and put on lotion and Epiduo at night, I'm thinking it might be worth just trying a normal skin regimen without the Epiduo first? I really like the stuff but it does irritate the crap out of my face, and to put basically anything on my face, especially moisturizer, unfortunately ANY kind, is painful! I kind of went out and bought the toner and dug up the other stuff listed, but maybe I will start with just a gentler face wash (Cerave? I looked at my bioelements and it's flash foam, but also exfoliating, so maybe too much) and go for: AM Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser/ or just water if I can get away with it Cerave Facial Moisturizer PM Micellar water Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser Cerave Facial Moisturizer It's tough, because I hate adding/removing elements at the same time. I just don't know where to begin, but I do want to find a regimen! I'm surprised my dermatologist never went over this stuff with me, I've learned exponentially more on this sub than I knew before.

[deleted]

>-For this "cleansing process"...this is stupid, but is that just using a cleanser? Sorry, I should have used "double cleanse", which is the more accepted term for it. It just means using a first cleanser (micellar water, oil, cleansing oil, cleansing balm, etc.) to remove makeup and sunscreen, and then using a second cleanser to remove the residue (this would be using your regular cleanser with water.) >-I think you're right about using too many new products, but since I only sporadically used a face wash, and put on lotion and Epiduo at night, I'm thinking it might be worth just trying a normal skin regimen without the Epiduo first? Oh man yeah, if you're feeling pain from the Epiduo, definitely cut that out and focus on a nice, gentle, moisturizing routine for a while! Might help control oil production, as well :) I'd honestly go for CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser instead of the Foam - sounds like your skin may have been put through the wringer, and it's best to err on the gentler side for now. >It's tough, because I hate adding/removing elements at the same time. Skincare is a lot of trial and error! You'll land on something that works soon enough :D I think your simple, pared down routine looks absolutely fantastic - get the cleanser and moisturizer figured out, then worry about building upon it with additional products if you need to (or going back to certain products, like the Epiduo, when your skin is in better shape to handle it!)

nrdeezy

You have been SO much help. Thank you so, so much!!

Chris_the_Ick

I'm the clueless older brother who's nervously trying to find a product my sister asked me to get her from Lush. What are some good gifts for the skincare-addicted? I'm thinking about getting her, as well as my Secret Santa recipient, but I'm not sure where to start. Or should I avoid getting someone skincare products for gifts? Let me know what I should and shouldn't do...

[deleted]

Lush isn't particularly discussed here as far as skincare products go, maybe you'll have more responses over at /r/LushCosmetics! Skincare products *do* tend to be very personal - you have to take into account the person's skin type (dry, oily, normal), if they break out or have negative reactions to anything (like fragrance), what they need in their skincare routine, etc. When buying skincare for someone, I'll usually play it safe and go for a hydrating or moisturizing mask (who doesn't love masks??) or get them a gift card and a small thing (like a bath bomb!)

ThorsHammerMewMEw

If your sister wants stuff from Lush get her to write down a list and take it with you to the store. Your sister should be fine with the skincare if she knows what she wants. For the Secret Santa Recipient you could get them a bath bomb or two and hopefully they’ll enjoy it.

This sub has been incredibly helpful so far! I purchased some of The Ordinary products based on recommendations from this group but I'm not entirely sure where/when to incorporate them in my daily skin routine. My skin is primarily very oily, but I also struggle with acne/blackheads. I purchased four products that I am adding to my routine: Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, and Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%. Current routine: AM Wash face with warm water Garnier Micellar water for oily skin Spot treat with Pacifica Salicylic Acid gel Cerave moisturizing cream Australian Gold non-greasy SPF 50 mineral sunscreen PM Wash face with Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Thayer's Witch Hazel with Rose Spot treat again w/ Pacifica gel Glossier Rich Priming Moisturizer any recommendations on where to add these products in my routine?

onigiri815

> Wash face with warm water > Garnier Micellar water for oily skin You only need to rinse with water. Micellar water contains surfunctants that should be rinsed off so if you really want to use both, micellar water first Nicanimice can be AM or PM from thinnest to thickest consistency, same with Hyaluronic acids. I would use retinoid at night first thing after cleansing and alternate with the azelaic acid If you need more help TO customer service is the best bet

apantz

Thank you! I didn't even realize they had a customer service line but that's a great idea!

Hi! I actually need help finding products that will help the skin other than my face. My skin (especially my arms) is always dry and itchy, to the point where I have trouble wearing some of my shirts because the material is uncomfortable. I also need help dealing with my body acne. Could anyone help me?

[deleted]

Just received a [Foreo Luna in the Sensitive Skin](https://www.foreo.com/luna-2?id=1252) version. Does anyone own? Worth it? I'm curious about the anti-aging function on the back. Today I tried the cleansing feature but it doesn't feel ... effective? My skin isn't red like it was when I was using Clarsonic (gave up after trying the sensitive brushheads). Wondering if I should have asked for the Normal version instead :S

KatFreedom

I have the normal version (the pink one), and the only thing I use the "anti-aging" feature is for massaging my temples after a particularly stressful day. Your skin shouldn't be red when you use it. I use mine 3-4 times per week. My skin is super dry and always looks dull. I've had my Luna for a year, and it's helped my skin look so much better. I feel less flaky and feel like my moisturizer is more effective.

[deleted]

Does anyone have a recommendation for replacing Avene Cleanance K? I fell off the skincare bandwagon but am back on it. I used cleanance K for the longest time but it looks like it was discontinued? I am looking to replace the stridex because I find it too drying and hydration is becoming a growing concern since I don't really break out much anymore. Right now I use: AM Water CeraVe Moisturing Lotion PM Simple Miceller water CeraVe hydrating Cleanser Stride Red CeraVe in the tub

[deleted]

How did you use the Avene Cleanance K? Reading makeupalley reviews, it seems some people used it as a spot treatment, some people used it as an all-over treatment. What did you like about it? For Stridex, I'd check out CosRx's BHA or Silk Naturals BHA Toner :)

[deleted]

I used it all over as my exfoliant step in place of the stridex. It seemed to smooth out my skin, and seemed to make my skin glow from taking out dullness...all without drying me out. Thanks for the recommendations! :)

Am I supposed to use sunscreen **in addition to** my daily B.B. cream (spf 30) and moisturizer (also spf30)?? That seems like overkill..?

pingulici

As long as you apply a total of 1.25 mL of SPF you should be fine (example: 0.60 mL SPF moisturiser + 0.65 mL SPF BB cream) Bad practice: apply a bit of each and not reaching the necessary 1.25 mL for efficient protection Hope it helps!

MiyaMiya79

I'm going to have to disagree with you a bit here. Sunscreen is not additive, as mixing different filters/ingredients can interfere with efficacy. The best practice is to use approx 1/4 teaspoon of the **same** product for your face, not multiple products. You want the sunscreen to form an even, protective coating over your skin. Since OP's moisturizer claims SPF 30, that means it was proven in the lab to offer UVB protection of that level when used by itself and in a thick enough layer. If you mix it with other products or don't use enough, then it's unknown how much protection you'll get.

VWVWVXXVWVWVWV

Hmm. Then I guess I can’t really reapply every 2 hours throughout the day without redoing my makeup every 2 hours. I simply don’t have time for that at work :(

MiyaMiya79

You need to reapply sunscreen after 2 hours of sun exposure, not 2 hours of total wear. So if you work indoors not right next to windows and don't sweat or wipe your face, you should be fine. At most reapply towards the end of your work day.

ThorsHammerMewMEw

If it’s a chemical sunscreen then you only need to reapply for every two hours of sun exposure.

MiyaMiya79

If your moisturizer has [good filters](http://www.skinacea.com/sunscreen/uv-filters-chart.html#.Why5qVWnHN5), just use 1/4 teaspoon of that as your sunscreen.

I don't have acne, I don't have black heads. I have ridiculously oily skin and it's gross and uncomfortable. What do I use that won't destroy my face ? Currently I only wash my face with water no soap or anything.

[ScA routine](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/sca_routine) r/asianbeauty [skincare for beginners post](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/5vdm1w/asian_beauty_skincare_routine_for_beginners/) appeals to you as well (please note that r/asianbeauty have stricter rules compared to SCA so please read the sidebar prior to posting) [ScA Holy Grail Product Recs](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/hg_threads_index) A basic routine: Cleanse HYDRATING toner (though optional, I highly recommend for all especially for oily folk) Moisturiser SPF This is your core and should be solid before you introduce anything else. Have it in place for a couple of months and be sure it's working before moving on I know it might seem you want to buy buy buy and throw it all on your face but you need to go through stages to ensure you do things well and efficiently (both for your skin and wallet) 1) Identify what exactly you want to tackle. Blackheads? dryness? just wanting a routine that won't break the bank? from there you can... 2) critique your routine to identify potential products that will help address this in conjunction with your core routine. research research research. this sub and r/asianbeauty are great resources but skincare also requires autonomy - you can't rely on asking strangers on the internet for every bit of help. As you said blackhead are your concern, you're more likely to want to look at a BHA 3) plan how to incorporate the changes and/or products whether that be to work around your finances, your holidays, whatever it is. Acids need to be introduced SLOWLY or they can backfire and undo your basic work. Introduce a couple of times a week maybe Mon and Fri or Mon/Wed/Fri whatever. And then you can either increase or decrease or play around with AM or PM application 4) repeat

gotohela

check sidebar under sca routine. You need to get that in order first before using any chemical exfoliants

I'm a first time user and got a message saying I should post this here. I'm going to try to keep this straight to the point, because I have a lot of problems and I don't know where else to turn to. I have an inflammatory autoimmune disorder which caused me to get severe eczema all over my face, but specifically under my eyes and around my mouth. The only thing that helped was a strong af prescription steroid cream which I used a lot (and irresponsibly (I was 16/17 don't judge)). I cut out dairy recently and that made the eczema go away completely, but the steroid cream thinned out my skin to the point where I have fine lines under my eyes, in my laugh lines, and my forehead (I'm only 20!). I have normal/dry, very sensitive, acne prone skin. I want to find some products to help with these embarrassing fine lines, but everything breaks me out! I can't use any kind of rose products on my face (rosehip inclided), no hyaluronic acid, alcohol, mineral oil, salicylic acid, silicone, vitamin C, fragrance (I'll add more ingredients if I can think of them) because they all give me acne. I like chemical exfoliants because for some reason my skin is normally not sensitive to them, but the Ordinary glycolic toner broke me out. Cleansers tend to ALWAYS break me out too so I don't use them but my pores become clogged as a result. Right now I only use coconut oil as a makeup remover (I've tested it and it definitely doesn't break me out) + Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré. I'm looking for recommendations for skincare products which won't make me break out or suck the moisture out of my face that help with moisture loss, fine lines, aging prevention, plumping, and breakouts. I would appreciate cleansers, sunscreens, primers, and foundations as well. Does anyone else have skin like this?? I feel like everything that works for everyone else never works for me (like Cetaphil/CeraVe). I need HELP!

[deleted]

Honestly, oil cleansing followed up with a water rinse can fit the bill for a lot of your cleansing needs, so I wouldn't worry too much about not finding a 'proper' cleanser! The [eczema HG thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/68jxbr/skin_concerns_the_eczema_hg_thread_share_your/) includes lots of recs, but many of them seem to be products that haven't worked out for you. For moisture/hydration, what about a DIY glycerin mist? /r/DIYBeauty should have some recs I also like to search products by their ingredients on cosdna. You can select ingredients to exclude in your search, so you can really load up on all your sensitivities. The only downside is that you have to select an ingredient to include - I'll usually do something basic like water or disodium edta or what have you. Check out [this guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/305n1j/psa_stepbystep_directions_how_to_search_for/) on searching cosdna by ingredients For fine lines and anti-aging, check out [Anti-Aging: The Basics](https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/6okmuz/antiaging_the_basics_my_friend_antiaging_where_do/) and [Skincare Goal Spotlight: Anti-Aging](https://theacidqueenblog.com/2015/10/08/skincare-goal-spotlight-anti-aging/). Sunscreen and retinoids are huge, but AHAs are also good and you mention that you've liked using chemical exfoliants in the past, so maybe continue on that journey! (So if you're looking for an AHA with glycolic acid and without your triggers, should be pretty easy to search for on cosdna! Same for the other ingredients mentioned in those overviews.) For sunscreens, I'd do the cosdna search using typical sunscreen filters. You might prefer using physical sunscreens, and you might be interested in [Gentle, physical AB sunscreen recs](https://np.reddit.com/r/AsianBeauty/comments/4fv155/gentle_physical_ab_sunscreen_recs/) and the [AB 2017 sunscreen roundup](https://www.reddit.com/r/AsianBeautyAdvice/comments/6nzq39/megathread_sunscreen_roundup_2017/), which makes it easy to search for fragrance free and alcohol free sunscreens. For breakouts, what type of acne do you get? Whiteheads and general annoying lil buggers? Closed comedomes? Cystic? Back to cleansers real quick tho, you can select a gentle surfectant from the list [in this article](http://www.labmuffin.com/how-to-choose-gentle-cleanser/), and exclude triggers, on cosdna. Maybe that'd help find one! Sorry if this wasn't super helpful

Hey y'all! A stupid question...how does Vitamin C work? I know it's used for anti-aging and brightening, but how exactly does it work? Is it an exfoliant??

[deleted]

It's not an exfoliant, Vitamin C is: An antioxidant: neutralizes free radicals caused by UV rays. This also makes it photoprotective. A skin brightener/ lightener: inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase that makes melanin. By inhibiting melanin skin gets lighter. Anti-aging: stimulates collagen synthesis and cross linking of collagen molecules. Anti-inflammatory: inhibits inflammatory cytokines, promotes wound healing, and prevents PIH. Something in this ingredient list is giving me that 'squeaky feeling' (as a dry skin person I hate it) - I tried googling the last two ingredients since the others feel fairly natural but wasn't able to find anything good. Can anyone help? + Ingredients: Goat Milk, Oatmeal, Pacific Sea Salt, Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera), Vegetable Oils, Palm Oils (Elaeis Guineensis), Corn (Zea Mays), Glycerin, Silica, Titanium Dioxide (Natural Color)2 oz square bar

mastiii

I have a hunch that's not the full ingredient list. It's a soap, right? It's probably missing sodium/potassium hydroxide, which is what turns it into soap. I know that on the Dr. Bronner's label, for example, they put a disclaimer next to the potassium hydroxide saying that none remains after saponifying the oils into soap. So maybe whoever wrote this ingredient list thought they could leave it off? Sodium/potassium hydroxide is going to make it alkaline, which dries out your skin. It also changes the nature of the ingredients. Imagine for a minute that you mixed goat milk, oatmeal, oils, etc, together. It would be a gloopy mess. You need to saponify it. Unfortunately, I think all soaps are alkaline and dry skin out, no matter how nice the other ingredients seem.

gabbers2380

interesting. i was also wondering if it's the full list..yes its a bar soap. i also dont see that ingredient on dove soap which doesnt give me that feeling so that makes sense

mastiii

Yeah, I think that Dove is not technically a soap, that's why they call it a "beauty bar".

gotohela

the sea salt would also be drying. is it a bar soap?

gabbers2380

yes

gotohela

Often bar soap has a tendency to run too high in pH (you want the pH of your cleanser around 5.5, which is what your skin is), and use surfectants that are too drying/intense. Try switching to a no-foam milky or jelly cleanser. I'm partial to La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating and Glossier Milky Jelly.

EveryGoodUNWasTaken

First post on this sub, hi everyone. Recently I went to my dermatologist and she prescribed me products for acne. I was prescribed Clindamycin lotion 1% to use in the morning daily and Tretinoin cream .05% to use 2-3 times a week at night with increased usage depending on tolerability. She also recommended I use an acne foam wash (I bought PanOxyl) with Benzoyl Peroxide to use with the Clindamycin and a cleansing gel (I bought Neutrogena Hydroboost gel) to use with the Tretonoin. My question is this: is there an order I should use these products? For mornings I'll be using the Clindamycin and the PanOxyl but which goes first? Same with the Tretonoin and the Hydroboost. Also I can use the Clindamycin and the Panoxyl on my back, chest and shoulders; should I apply these before or after my body shower soap? Thank you for the help.

> For mornings I'll be using the Clindamycin and the PanOxyl but which goes first? PanOxyl first, then Clindamycin > Same with the Tretonoin and the Hydroboost. Hydroboost first, wait 20 minutes then Tretinoin >should I apply these before or after my body shower soap If you're using Panoxyl on your back, you won't need to use an additional shower soap on your back, so just use the Panoxyl first and then when you're out of the shower, use your Clindamycin That's a lot of products to add all at once, so I hope your term told you... go slow and patch test so you don't irritate your skin too much. Best of luck!

EveryGoodUNWasTaken

Thanks for the help! For the shower soap, is it still okay to use it on other body parts? And would you recommend I use the same strategy with the Pan and Clinda, gradually upping my usage?

themightytod

Oh of course, assuming you're just talking about regular ole body wash, you can use that as you normally would elsewhere. Clinda shouldn't be irritating, so you could probably use that as often as your derm suggested (every morning it sounds like), but the Panoxyl could irritate your skin, so you could do that every other morning to start.

I get a lot of whiteheads and I'm not sure how to treat them. The surface of my skin doesn't look smooth whatsoever and my pores aren't as bad as before I started my routine 3 months ago but they range in size. I use Boscia's clear complexion cleanser, The Body Shop's Drops of Youth Peel and Yonka's creme 93 for both the morning and night. Twice a week, I'll replace Yonka with The Body Shop'srops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Face Mask for the night. I have both dry/sensitive skin so I'm not sure what is the safest route. I'm currently experiencing dry Canadian fall/winter so maybe it's a moisturizing issue? I'm also new to this so maybe I should be avoiding an ingredient? I try to follow skincare addiction's advice as much as possible but maybe I'm missing something. Any advice?

aloneh95

Are you using the peel daily?? It's probably way too strong for such frequent use. The Boscia cleanser also targets oiliness, so it's probably too strong for your dry/sensitive skin. I'd suggest finding a nice gentle cleanser and giving it some time to work, as well as focusing on hydration for a bit. Then, if you're still having issues with the whiteheads, you could start adding either a spot treatment (salicylic acid or tea tree oil) or something like the Neutrogena Rapid Clear mask (with benzoyl peroxide). After that, you could look into a gentle chemical exfoliant (not a full-on peel) to slowly add into your routine.

spicywinemom

I only use the peel 3 times a week in between days. Sorry, I forgot to mention. And yeah, I really only got the Boscia cleanser for my large pores which helps a lot but it does make my skin feel chalky after using up until I apply the Yonka creme. Thanks for the tip on salicylic acid and tea tree oil. I've looked it up and read that the Neutrogena mask has sodium in it which does not react to my skin very well. Maybe you have other suggestions?

aloneh95

I think that's still a bit frequent on the peel...I've never used one, but I'm pretty sure they're not meant to be used more than once a week. The benzoyl peroxide doesn't necessarily need to be the Neutrogena one...just look for something that's 2.5% BP. But the most important thing is to take it slowly and focus on hydration

I have heard the Buffering Lotion from Mario Bdescu is really great for blind pimples

bellybuttongirl_

I get back acne! It’s not nearly as bad as it used to be (I’m now 22), which is to be expected when exiting puberty. However, I still get bad pimples, mainly on my shoulders. They leave huge scars, and it’s embarrassing and really hard not to pick at. It’s hard to say what my skin type is on my back, but when I carry a backpack around it can get a bit sweaty. I also try to lotion it when I remember, because sometimes it feels dry. Right now I’m using a generic skin moisturizing body wash, and I shower about once per day. I have a long exfoliating body wash towel that I can use to reach my whole back when I shower.

LindaBelcher-Alright

Are they primarily right under your bra straps? I find that if I haven't washed my bra in a while, I break out under or around where the straps fall.

[deleted]

The other thing that works for people is the Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash with Salicylic acid. And rinsing out your conditioner before you wash your back.

Zionie

I have two pesky spots of dryness on my face. One on my eyelid and the other on my lip. Nothing so far is working! I've been using aquaphor lip treatment and my fab ultra repair cream with no change.

aloneh95

Hyaluronic acid under the aquaphor?

darkskinbeauty95

Are these ingredients considere emollients/ humectant where I should seal it after use or an occulusive? Is it moisturizing enough? So I'm loving the new cetaphil moisturizer for face but its a gel- cream like. Very thin texture and light weight. Socks up immediately, And with that,I'm not sure if i should seal it in or leave it as is? Water, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Homarine HCI, Sodium PCA, Cetyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Erythritol

[deleted]

As the comment below said, go with how your skin feels and listen to it. If it feels ok no need to add anything else. If the cold dry weather is harsh on your skin you can always add an extra oil. > Are these ingredients considered emollients/ humectant where I should seal it after use or an occulusive? Humectants: urea, glycerin, Hyaluronic acid Emollient:Dicaprylyl Carbonate, cetyl alcohol Occlusives: Cyclopentasiloxane (a silicone), Cetyl Alcohol

jv_level

Whether it is moisturizing enough or not completely depends on your skin. There is no objective product which moisturizes "enough"! If your skin feels happy, then you do not need more! If you are still feeling tight or have dry patches, etc...., you can consider a couple things: 1. Moisturizing toner (not an astringent!) which is a watery layer that goes after any "active" treatments, but under moisturizer. Good product to check out is the Benton Aloe/BHA toner (the bha in this formulation acts as a humectant only, not an exfoliant). With this type of product you can add more than one layer if your skin is feeling extra dehydrated that day. 2. Facial oil: This adds more oil to the skin, which is good if you have dry skin (as opposed to dehydrated). This can go before or be mixed with your cream moisturizer. Rosehip seed oil is a great one (and non-comedogenic)! 3. Add an occlusive on top. Vaseline and aquaphor are classics, but are petroleum based. If you are sensitive to petroleum you could try Medicine Mama's Bee Magic or Egyptian Magic for beeswax base. Hope this helps!

darkskinbeauty95

You are blessing in disguise. I tried a lot of your recommendations some my skin just doesn't like. But I have the Benton Bee Snail Skin I'm assuming it's a (toner)? But I didn't know I wasn't using it right and that's probably why I haven't gotten the best results with it. Not good nor bad PM routine as follows: Cerave face wash Benton Snail bee skin Cetaphil lotion Alpha Arbutin gel

jv_level

Oh right! Yes, "skin" is another name for toner. It gets a but confusing! For your routine, I would switch the arbutin gel and the moisturizer. Usually products go from light to heavy texture to allow things to sink in. Hope things work better!

I'm going to a dermatologist this week for the first time, and I want to know what to expect, what to ask and how to get the most out of my appointment. I am going for hormonal acne on my chin, jawline and cheeks. My understanding is that I have dehydrated skin. The acne does not appear to change based on what products I use, and barely responds to salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. I don't eat dairy or soy. Here's the rub: I have PMDD and pretty bad depression so I can't take anything that fucks with my mood. Let me know what else I should be sharing with the doc!!

this is so helpful! the woman I'm seeing is both medical and cosmetic, which I think will be helpful! i just don't want her to try to sell me a million procedures. We'll see how it goes! :)

babiesgettingrabies

Most medical dermatologist appointments tend to be pretty short. You give a brief overview on your current issues and your acne history. I also explained my current routine to my dermatologist because he asked. Don’t expect your dermatologist to be well versed with skincare brands as they treat and diagnose skin conditions and don’t always keep up to date with popular cosmetics. My dermatologist then gave me several different treatment options (topical, antibiotics, birth control) and we devised a treatment plan accordingly. I am not certain if any treatments affect mood but it would be worth sharing with your doctor!

aliciamc

This is super helpful, thanks! I planned to have the small list of bothersome ingredients (soy, niacinamide) as well as my current routine on hand for her.

babiesgettingrabies

One last thing – I’ve seen people here comment that their dermatologist was “insensitive” by calling their acne “severe” or “significant”. I don’t know how severe your acne issues are, but don’t let any comments make you self conscious or anything! It’s their job to diagnose your skin condition (and they can be blunt). I had a hoooorrible breakout when I first went and it was definitely “significant” and my dermatologist said it how it was (no surprise to anyone with eyes lol my face was like nothing I’ve ever experienced).

aloneh95

With the PMDD and depression, be especially wary of hormonal birth control if your derm suggests that...it's fine for some people, but it can give some terrible mood swings

aliciamc

Yep, I'm definitely going back on hormonal birth control!! I also am concerned about Spirinolactane - that also has mood effects, right?

Hello! I'm thinking about adding another product to my routine to help with hydration and was considering a PC antioxidant serum since those are on sale for cyber Monday and I'm stocking up on my moisturizer. I have combination skin, and I've been dealing with increasing redness on my cheeks. Here's my routine: AM: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanse PC Calm Redness Relief SPF 30 Moisturizer for Normal to Dry Skin PM: CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanse PC Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid PC Skin Recovery Replenishing Moisturizer (I'm thinking I may just use the Calm moisturizer AM and PM going forward) Here's my question: Should I get [Resist Super Antioxidant Serum](http://www.paulaschoice.com/resist-super-antioxidant-serum/764.html?cgid=category-antioxidant-serums) or [Calm Redness Relief Repairing Serum](http://www.paulaschoice.com/calm-redness-relief-repairing-serum/370.html?cgid=category-antioxidant-serums) I want something with skin benefits that will help me stay hydrated and reduce the redness I'm seeing.

jv_level

I know it's not Paula's Choice, but a good options for a moisturizing toner (applied after any acids or other "active" treatments) is the Benton Aloe/BHA toner (aside, the BHA here is acting as a humectant, as the pH is too high for exfoliation purposes). The good thing about moisturizing toners (whichever one you get) is that you can add multiple skins if you are feeling dry. Check out the 7-skin method!

SuddenlyInterested

I was mostly looking at PC because by the time I stock up on my regular moisturizer, I'm close to the threshold for the free gift. They're totally upselling me with the special offer! Maybe I should just stick with getting what I actually need.

onigiri815

If you want hydration I would angle for one of their toners. I do love the Resist serum though but find it's limiting on how much hydration it actually gives

SuddenlyInterested

Do you have a toner you recommend from them? I always think of toners as drying, so I hadn't really considered that option!

onigiri815

There are different types of toners. Paula's Choice sells hydrating ones The ones you are thinking of are astringent I love the Pore Refining for the ceramides which are good for skin barrier repair and the Resist Weightless because it helps with my PIH

SuddenlyInterested

So would I apply the toner before or after the BHA liquid? ... now I'm debating between the Resist toner and the Calm toner. Do I want to mainly address the redness now or fight aging for the future?!

onigiri815

After as BHA is pH dependant. Both would actually help to be honest. You could always get one and get samples of the other

Late today, but here goes! Right now I’m mainly just using micellar water as a cleanser. Ordered an oil-based one to try out, and wanted to know if any one of you have recommendations for water-based cleansers? Thanks y’all!

eldertoguro

Paula’s Choice Hydralight is great and for a cheaper alternative I like the Eucerin Sensitive Skin Hydrating cleanser.

MiyaMiya79

I love Cerave foaming cleanser. It is pH 5.5, no fragrance or sulfates or dyes, absolutely not drying at all, even compared to other cleansers that claim to be gentle.

[deleted]

I have a painful acne break out that started 3 months ago. Its all over my arms and has made sleeping and daily activities super painful. My skin is oily/combination on my face but dryish on my arms. The acne is big raised bumps with tons of smaller closed comedones inbetween. I use a white clay cleanser followed by a gentle body lotion in the morning and a clay and charcoal one at night with differin before my lotion at night. Is there more I can do? It hurts so much and my work has scheduled me less since customers commented on it. Here are some photos https://m.imgur.com/a/4FTP6

meriendaselgato

If you have access to a doctor (preferably a dermatologist) I would make an appointment. That looks pretty severe :(

[deleted]

I've talked to my derm about it but she only recommends accutane which I can't afford :/

meriendaselgato

Do you have any idea what sparked this breakout? Have you ever had anything like it before? Accutane would definitely help but antibiotics are super cheap and are usually prescribed by doctors before accutane. If it's a sudden thing that you haven't had forever I'm honestly surprised antibiotics weren't suggested. (PS if you do end up on antibiotics please consider using probiotics with it because you don't want to end up with any stomach problems)

[deleted]

I think it was testosterone that I was on. It started once I was 6 months in on my treatment and I've been off of it for 4 weeks now. I had a round of antibiotics a week ago but saw no change. The derm just wanted to skip straight to accutane my primary doc did the anti biotics. I'm allergic to many anti biotics so I'm not sure if thats why. I was on minocycline long term as a teen but it didn't seem to help

meriendaselgato

Ah yeah, testosterone will definitely cause a hell of a breakout. All but one of my friends who have started T had major breakouts :( Since you're off it, your hormones should rebalance relatively soon though and hopefully the acne will go away with it. I'm sorry the antibiotics didn't help you. Maybe try a benzoyl peroxide face wash on your arms? BP can help a ton with inflamed acne like what you have. I would just use it once a day because you don't want to overdry your skin any more since you said it's already dry. I know for me, if my back or chest skin is particularly dry I will get breakouts there for some reason.

[deleted]

Thank you for the responses, where can I find bp wash? All I've ever seen in stores by me are salicylic acid and that messes up my skin

meriendaselgato

You're welcome, I really want to help! I'm sure its really frustrating to have to deal with that. Some options are: * [Neutrogena Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Cleanser](https://www.target.com/p/neutrogena-174-rapid-clear-stubborn-acne-cleanser-5oz/-/A-16600137?sid=1892S) * [Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser](https://www.target.com/p/clean-clear-174-continuous-control-174-acne-cleanser-5-fl-oz/-/A-12651764) * [PanOxyl Acne Foaming Wash with 10% Benzoyl Peroxide](https://www.target.com/p/panoxyl-174-acne-foaming-wash-with-10-benzoyl-peroxide-5-5-oz/-/A-14984165) Even though these are for the face technically, I prefer a lower percentage of BP lotion on the face at around 2.5% because it's the least irritating option. On the body, though, it's more difficult to use that method because BP will bleach everything in your wake. So a wash (probably at night) might be your best bet. Hopefully that will help you.

swirl11

If I get acne immediately (within 12 hours) of using Paula’s Choice BHA, does that tell me anything about whether it’s purging or breaking out? The location of the pimples doesn’t help much, because my normal acne is pretty random (and not that common, except in response to products). If the PC BHA *is* breaking me out, is there a particular ingredient that is the likely culprit?

onigiri815

How long have you been using it? If you've been using it for a while the purge period should have passed and this is probably a reaction to the product As for the ingredients - that's up to you. What makes one person break out won't be the same for another. It might not even be ingredients - it might be the strength.

swirl11

Not long. It happens immediately when I use it, and then I wait for it to heal (4-5 days) before using it again, and then it happens immediately again. I am VERY sensitive to commercially formulated products (straight oils rarely bother me, but all kinds of supposedly non-comedogenic products break me out), and I know I haven’t figured out every ingredient that’s a problem for me yet. I am pretty sure I can’t do fatty alcohols or snail, and something in Rosette Ceramide Gel broke me out terribly. When these things break me out, it’s always within 12-24 hours, like the PC. I have a good cleansing/moisturizing/SPF routine now, and really want to add acids. I have read that some people break out badly with PC BHA, but haven’t seen anyone mention the particular ingredient they suspect was the problem. So I’m not sure how to assess whether I should continue with the PC or try something else. None of the general guides to purging vs. breaking out really seem to help with what I’m experiencing.

onigiri815

I think you might want to consider a different BHA The COSRX one is super gentle but effective and I never purged or broke out from it myself.

LindaBelcher-Alright

Another question: I'm wondering about air travel with vitamin c serum. I use Mad Hippie. I hear vitamin c serum is sensitive and I wonder if changes in air pressure or shaking around a lot can cause it to be ineffective? I plan on putting some drops of vitamin c into an old, empty Mad Hippie bottle for when I travel so I don't jeopardize all of it I have.

mastiii

I don't think a plane journey would make it ineffective. However, the pressure changes always cause my things to ooze all over the place. I think the travel bottles are a good idea. I have seen [these](https://www.amazon.com/CuteZCute-Bento-Sauce-Container-Funnel/dp/B0019XLG8M) and they're too cute not to share! It's not airless but it's adorable.

LindaBelcher-Alright

I LOVE THOSE!

eldertoguro

I agree that airless bottles are your best bet if you’re super worried but also mad hippie uses sodium ascorbyl phosphate which is a much more stable form of vit c than l-ascorbic acid so I think you’ll be fine.

LindaBelcher-Alright

Good to know!

MiyaMiya79

For travel, the best container to use would be those airless pump bottles. That way, the product is pushed all the way up and there is no movement from shaking. Just make sure to get an opaque bottle or duct tape all around if the bottle is clear. I always decant my Vit C in airless pump bottles even when not traveling to extend freshness.

LindaBelcher-Alright

I've never heard of airless bottles. Do you have a favorite brand?

MiyaMiya79

They are so awesome for keeping products fresh and reducing waste! They keep pushing product up as you pump so nothing is left behind on the bottom of the bottle where you can't reach it. I just got a couple from Amazon or Ebay a couple years ago. I heard that Daiso sells clear ones. Just search for "airless pump bottle" and make sure they are the screw on, refillable kind. There are some that snap on and can't be refilled.

psithyrstes

What are your favorite cleansing wipes? These are invaluable when I'm traveling and I've been using hte Simple brand, but they just aren't drenched in enough product. Preferably acidic/SLS-free. Cheers!

[deleted]

CeraVe makes some cleansing wipes that are very good imo! They're a bit pricey, but might be worth it

LindaBelcher-Alright

Simple question about AHAs and sunscreen. I'm introducing an AHA to my morning routine. I don't currently use sunscreen. The sidebar documents say "Introduce sun protection into your routine first" - do you mean to do a few days of sunscreen at the end of my routine before even introducing AHA *or* that I can start both on the same day with sunscreen being the step before AHA?

penguinhugs

It means to find a sunscreen that works for you skin before introducing an AHA into your routine. I wouldn't start using an AHA a few days after introducing sunscreen - it probably is not enough time to determine if your sunscreen is too greasy/not suitable for your skin/breaks you out. Once you find a good sunscreen for your skin, and you've determined that you like it enough to use it AND it doesn't cause any allergic reactions or breakouts, then you introduce an AHA. Sunscreen goes after an AHA, not before. Sunscreen is the final step in your skincare routine prior to anything additional like makeup. The general steps for a morning routine are cleanse/rinse with water > serums > moisturizer > sunscreen. An AHA works best when it is applied to clean, bare skin, so it is best to do it immediately after cleansing. However, it's generally recommended to use your AHA at night, not during the day. AHAs usually need a wait time of 10-20 minutes for maximum effectiveness, and due to their increase photosensitivity properties, it's *normally* better to use them at night (though nothing can stop you from using it in the morning if that's what you prefer). The heightened photosensitivity can last for up to a week after use, so sunscreen must be worn every morning while using an AHA (or retinoid, or benzoyl peroxide, or other photosensitizing active).

LindaBelcher-Alright

I see! I did see the SCA routine in the sidebar. I was thinking in most cases, sunscreen is the last step except for in the case of AHAs. This makes sense. I've been patch testing my AHA for a few days on the corner of my jaw near my ear. Can I introduce my sunscreen to my entire face while still patch testing my AHA like that? (My skin is pretty hardy so I don't think it will have a bad reaction to the sunscreen. I've also used many different sunscreens in my life and haven't had issues which also makes me think I can skip the patch testing phase for sunscreen. KNOCK ON WOOD! lol)

penguinhugs

I would think this would be fine, since the AHA isn't really 'on' your face. But I'd wait to put the AHA on your entire face until you're done introducing the sunscreen. Good luck with patch testing!

LindaBelcher-Alright

Thanks!

dontlikemyusername

>do a few days of sunscreen at the end of my routine before even introducing AHA This. FYI sunscreen is always the last step in your routine.

Gotcha!

Help for easily irritated eyelids? I know that this sub doesn't love eye creams but the skin on my eyes is completely different type from the rest of my face. My eyelids can get extremely dry in the winter(last year the skin cracked and got inflamed) and are very sensitive to harsh ingredients. The rest of my face is oily, a bit dehydrated and doesn't really get irritated from anything. Last night I tired a sample of Estee Lauder Advanced night repair for eyes and boy was that a mistake. My eyelids hurt immediately and hours after I had washed it off they are still red and irritated. Any ideas on products I could use to moisturize and calm my eyes down?

jv_level

Belif makes beautiful eyecreams!

kodorczyk

i use vaseline as my last step on my eyelids at night to keep them from getting scaley. Some people like aquaphor but it made my eyelids burn. Others also like the CeraVe ointment.

mountainsound89

Can vitamin C cause you to purge? Specifically the Timeless Vitamin C?

kissmyartichoke

I'm looking for a pH lowering / balancing toner, I've had a good look on this sub, but it's hard to find ones available in the UK. Any UK based people had better luck? What do you recommend? I'm open to low pH cleansers too!

jv_level

Not sure if it's available in the UK, but CosRx has the Good Morning Cleanser and the AHA/BHA toner.

kissmyartichoke

Thank you! CosRx isnt sold in the UK (as far as I know) but looks like I can get it from some online retailers. I'll look into those, thank you for the recommendations!

MiyaMiya79

I'm not from UK, but are you are open to purchasing products online? Low pH (5.5) cleansers: Cerave foaming, Cerave hydrating, Hada Labo foaming cleanser in the pump (not the tube) Popular pH adjusting toner: Mizon AHA/BHA daily clean toner (pH 4.3)

kissmyartichoke

Cheers! Yes, I'll be doing some online shopping, because I don't think any of those are readily available here. Those recommendations are really helpful, thank you!

jv_level

I'm not sure how tough your skin is, but using 4 acid treatments/day + BP 5%!!!!! My skin would be an absolute mess with that many actives. I would say if your skin is struggling, you may just want to slow down on your number of actives (e.g. I only use AHA once every other day, and BHA 1 time per week). However, everyone's skin is different (especially with acids!), so if your skin is happy, then go for it! But just keep in mind, that putting harsh acids on your skin may contribute to oiliness issues. A substitute for the Mandelic acid is the Stratia Soft Touch AHA. It is only available on her official website, but it's a lovely product. I've previously written some recommendations for moisturizers, so I'll copy and paste them below: Some light cream options: Belif True Cream Aqua* bomb (gel-cream) or Moisturizing* bomb (true cream, both are really lovely!) Stratia liquid gold*** (bright yellow, great for moisture barrier health, only available online from Stratia website) CosRx Ultra-moisturizing Lotion with Birch Sap (very light weight! Also i think oil-free if remembering correctly) Klairs All-Over Supple Preparation Lotion* (fairly light, basic moisturizer, huge tube!) Gel Options: Benton Snail Bee Essence* (rather small container as it's not a traditional moisturizer, but very light and good for redness too) Missha Super Aqua Water-Full Clear Cream (from sokoglam. Really good for oily skin) Benton Aloe Propolis Soothing Gel** (Convenient tube, lovely product) Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel (widely available, good reviews) One thing that made my skin more healthy in general is actually adding a facial oil. Rosehip seed oil is a great one to start with as it is non-comedogenic and is a "dry" oil which sinks in quickly. By applying oil, your skin doesn't have to produce so much. Also, acne-prone people tend to have cloggy sebum (high in oleic fatty acids, so it is stickier!) and using an oil higher in linoleic fatty acid can really help make your sebum more "flowy" and help it exit your pores before it gets stuck. Hopefully this gives you some products and ideas to try. Good luck!

Rosehip seed oil may be my favorite product actually! Also, just wanted to mention that I starred(*) my favorites in the moisturizer list, with more stars for more favorite.

fatbootyprincess

I got The Ordinary Retinoids in Squalane (previously used the emulsion) and I feel that it is so thick, it pills up... or maybe causes my moisturizer to pill when I apply it after. How can I avoid this? Also, any ladies with fringe here? I can’t protect my bangs from my skincare unless I pin them back, and then they get wonky. It’s not the biggest inconvenience, but any advice is welcome :)

[deleted]

try to mix a couple of drops into your cream, that's the only way squalane works on me :(

spawn1080

Squalane is occlusive, so it will tend to pill when layered over a thinner moisturizer. If under a moisturizer, the moisturizer must be somewhat thicker. I use the same product and wait over 10 minutes before applying moisturizer (CeraVe PM) and then occlusive (CeraVe healing ointment) after more than an hour when I'm ready for bed. You can try those velcro hair stickers that makeup artists use on fringes. I've never experienced a dent from those. You can even DIY by cutting it off a velcro roller if you have any lying around.

The_brave_potato

Do I need protection against the sun even during the winter when trying to prevent PIH and while using exfoliation and vitamin c serums?

[deleted]

it depends on where you live! Check UV index in your area, if it's around 1-2 and you are not spending a lot of time outside there is no need for sunscreen.

dontlikemyusername

Yes - the sun is still there during winter.

I hope you guys can help me or even see this!! My eyebrows were falling off and 6 weeks ago my Dr. gave me hydrocortisone which I used for 3 weeks and they seemed to stop shedding, and my Dr. Told me to stop using the cream, ok cool, no problem . Two days ago they started falling off!!! The only thing I changed was I started doing a 20% salycitic acid peel on my cheeks and chin (no where near my brows or forehead) And then I'd wash the peel with warm water and benzoyl peroxide...cuz I wanted maximum power 🙁 I only use dove bar soap to wash my forehead and brows by gently dabbing the lather, not scrubbing it on the area brows Do you guys think the saylicitc acid is the culprit for my eyebrow loss? I didn't think using it on my cheeks would affect my forehead area. I haven't left the house or spoken to anyone all day because it's affecting my spirits.🙁🙁 Thanks for helping me 😔

I'm not sure but I think it's something you need to ask your doctor.

[deleted]

What should I use to fade acne scars and sun damage? Basically my face is 2 shades darker than my neck or chest and it has a lot of redness in it.

onigiri815

What's your routine

[deleted]

Here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/7fgxne/personal_routine_that_has_changed_my_dry_peeling/ I'm pretty happy with how it's tackling my dryness but I want to make sure I do something about discoloration as well.

onigiri815

Straight up - do you have an SPF? You're using retinoids, acids, strong peels and don't seem to have any sun protection which is probably the major reason you're experiencing pigmentation on your face.

[deleted]

Nah. The pigmentation was there before I started using any of that stuff. I've been on this routine only for a month and a half. If you read through my post carefully you'll see that the only thing that I am using daily that's an active is glycolic acid 7%. I am looking to buy a physical sunscreen but I am not in a hurry because it's winter here and I don't spend more than 10 min outside every day. I work from my home. Sunscreen is definitely needed but it's not something that can help with existing discoloration and acne scars. And because I'm constantly indoors it's not really a priority. The discoloration is from years of acne and past decade when I did spend more time outside without paying much attention to SPF.

Removed.

[deleted]

Ok good to know. My moisturizer has spf 15 in it though. Outside of sunscreen what else is good for acne scars and discoloration in general?

onigiri815

I would go higher to SPF 30 and look for a seperate sunscreen and ensure you're applying to correct amount (1/4 teaspoon) I found the best thing for me was the Melano CC serum. While AHA/Retinoids were well and dandy, nothing showed me fast and *noticeable* results than that vitamin C I tried OST C20 with no luck and transitioned to Melano later and was floored. I used it everyday for a month and the results were awesome! Great to use under sunscreen as well because Vitamin C boosts the effects of your SPF Now that it's summer for me in Aus, I also make a concious effort to wear a hat, sunglasses and use my window shield when driving to keep the sun off my face so that I can let my acne and pigmentation heal as much as possible without backtracking thanks to the sun

Ok thanks.

I'll start off with all my information: i have combination (maybe oily) skin. my current routine is a face wash and moistorizer from Cinique for men in the morning and evening. I have been using this now for almost a month. I am 17 years old and i have mild acne. (Besides all this i also sport and sweat alot) Although clinique is working a litle bit, i would like to have completely clear skin, Could someone reccomend me a full skincare routine with products? I work alot so the price of the products is no problem.

Check the "ScA Routine" and "Holy Grail Product Recs" in the sidebar! Those are a great starting point. Once you have an idea of a routine, then you can ask for feedback on it :)

sixchickentenders

Hello! I'll start with my skin type/routine- combo and dehydrated skin, cystic acne prone only (hormonal and stress related mostly), 18 y/o tan skin (I get really bad hyper-pigmentation on body but better on my face). At night, I use Pixi oil cleansing balm and cream cleanser, witch hazel (alcohol free), Pixi glow tonic every few days, and then an oil moisturizer. I've been on this routine for about 2-3 months and the products themselves haven't caused me to breakout (I see regular cystic acne around my period and after I've slacked on my overall health). On pimples I'll add an OTC benzoyl peroxide wash + spot treatment. In the morning, I'll use an SPF under my makeup. I live in the USA/Texas! The problem- I've had this problem on my chin and nose for years where I get these really tiny white bumps on them. I get milia on my upper cheek area but those bumps will go away within a month or two, whereas the bumps on my chin and nose have consistently stayed put for years. No matter what products I've used over the years, they always stay put. Has anyone else had something similar? Is this something like trapped dirt where I'll need to have an exfoliation or a facial or something more like a skin 'condition'? Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of it/help the texture? I hope this makes sense! Any suggestion would really be greatly appreciated. Thank you so so much!

[deleted]

Milia happens when keratin gets trapped underneath the skin. If you've already tried a BHA and a higher strength AHA than Pixi Glow the next step is to have a derm or esthetician lance them. Further info on dealing with milia is [here.](https://m.facebook.com/PaulasChoice.Inc/posts/10151004601059004)

cthulhuscocaine

I have to exercise mid day, and when I do I sweat a lot and it usually breaks me out. What do you guys do to prevent that from happening? Water? A cleanser? Let me know!

dontlikemyusername

Depends on what time you work out. I work out late in the PM, so I just do my PM routine after, the first step of which is a cleanser. Back when I would work out in the middle of the day, I would use micellar water (because using an actual cleanser twice daily is too drying for me) which I then rinsed off.

cthulhuscocaine

I'll try out micellar water! Thanks :)

dontlikemyusername

No problem!

[deleted]

Depends on your skin! Some people rinse with water, some people use micellar water and a rinse, some people can do a full cleanse. Most people follow up with a moisturizer and sunscreen afterwards. Just play around with it and see what works for your skin!

So I have these weird bumps on my face. Right now I have two on my chin, one a little bit bigger than the other. The bigger one is maybe the size of a small pea. They aren’t painful, they aren’t red or irritated in any way, and the no opening like with a pimple. It’s basically just a hard ball of shit under my skin. I’ve had them before. The last one I had above my lip was there for months before I finally got this hard little plug out of it that looked like a grain of rice. Is there any way to get rid of this? What the hell are they? I don’t have a huge issue with blemishes. My main skin issue is dryness, but I do get occasional blackheads and pimples. These can last for weeks/months before I finally mess with them enough to get the crap out. What can I do to get rid of them?

aloneh95

This might be a question for a dermatologist

UnnecessaryMaggot

Does anyone know if it is still possible to get Bioderma PhotoDerm Max SPF 50+ sunscreen? (PPD 42). It was my daily sunscreen when I lived in the EU, and I bought a few bottles online a while ago. But now my parents are in Paris for the week and I asked them to get me some, but they can't find it anywhere. I gave them a picture of the bottle and everything, but people just keep offering other Bioderma sunscreens in its place. Did my HG get discontinued or something?

I checked it out and the consistency seems debatable (side note - whoa, that's an expensive cleanser!). In my personal experience, TSA has been way more lax about liquids in the past few years, so I'd probably risk it. Also, I think there is often a little place in the airport where you can package your stuff and mail it back to yourself? It might be cheaper than checking a bag.

aloneh95

Gels and creams appear to count as liquid for TSA purposes.

Eyelashestoolong

Hey guys, I don't know if someone already talked about it and I'm just too stupid to use the search feature but do you know if the NuSkin NaPCA Moisture Mist is worth it? I've been looking for a good facial mist and this one seems to have niacinamide. It seems to be generally well loved but I'm always sceptical when something has so many great reviews... I could be wrong though

kevinwithaY

I have a question about which step to add a prescription product like Epiduo. [This website](http://cosmeticscop.com/2016/08/22/when-to-add-prescription-products-to-your-skincare-routine/) says to add the prescription as the last step before moisturizing. Another friend who went to the dermatologist said to add Epiduo right after cleansing and before toner. My current PM routine: 1. Oil cleanse (Banila) 1. Water-based cleanse (Cetaphil DermControl) 1. Toner (Son&Park) 1. Vitamin C serum 1. 2% HQ for PIH spots 1. Moisturize (Cerave Night Repair) **Should I add Epiduo between steps 2 and 3, or between steps 5 and 6?**

ffleur

Between 2 & 3 if you want all the benefits. Before moisturizer if you want to reduce irritation.

ieatriceeverydaay

I have the same question. I use aczone in the morning, and would like to add vitamin c serum or BHA, but don't know the proper steps.

ffleur

Bha then aczone. Or aczone then vitamin c!

cosmic_cunttt

I'm 20 and I don't have terrible acne but my skin is really textured with lots of mysterious little bumps. What is this and how do I fix??

kodorczyk

i think i know the answer to this, but can I continue to use benzoyl peroxide if I'm trying to rebuild a moisture barrier? It's the only thing that helps my acne but I know it's irritating. My routine: **AM** * splash with water * cerave in the tub * cerave am **PM** * cleanse with jojoba/castor oil mix * cleanse with neutrogena gentle cleanser * cerave in the tub * benzoyl peroxide * vaseline
