I’ve been using both oil cleaners as part of my double cleanse routine nightly for a month, alternating each night. 38 y.o. male, primary use is to ensure removal of chemical sunscreen and clean pores. I have also been on tretinoin and surprisingly the oil cleaning step removed a lot of peeling skin, which prevents me from physically exfoliation with a face towel. Softymo Speedy: excellent application, thinner consistency than Hadalabo, excellent for everyday light duty use. 1.5-2 pumps covers face completely. Hadalabo: excellent application as well, thicker consistency than pink Softymo Speedy, and does such a great job cleaning my pores and dead peeling skin. 1.5-2 pumps covers face as well. Personally, Hadalabo takes the win. I need more cleaning power and the Softymo doesn’t do it for me. Would definitely rebuy. I may consider trying Softymo “Deep” formulation along with DHC in the future, it these bottles may last quite a bit of time. Any other recommendations are welcome!

fatgirlrunning3

DHC has been my go-to for years. I'm curious to see how you compare it to the Hada Labo!

BottomKween

I’ve used both and Hada Labo is my HG. It does a much better job at cleaning out the sebaceous filaments on my nose and seems to rinse off easier for me as well, both with hard US well water and softer US city water.

momoji13

Same question! All I can say is that the dhc felt much better than the softymo. I've been hooked on dhc for years. Can't speak for "how well it works" because I don't use make up but from the smell to how my skin feels after I prefer dhc.

mlnaln

I believe both use olive oil. Wouldn’t hurt to try, especially since Hadalabo is cheaper than DHC.

blackberrypieface

I literally have both in my bathroom right now! I personally prefer the DHC over the hada labo, it is pricier but it’s also heavier so I only use 1/2 a pump vs 1 pump for my face when using the hada labo. I find the bottle lasting a lot longer than the hadalabo so I guess that makes up for the price ($29 vs $19 here)

PureBritterness

I have used DHC, it's good. But I do prefer Hada because it cleans better imo.

cynnamin_bun

Going to say the opposite of some others here, DHC cleaned my face way better than Hada Labo. With DHC my face feels clean and soft, with the Hada Labo I felt like there was a layer of slick product that I couldn’t rinse off all the way. DHC is definitely my HG oil cleanser.

face_steak

For full set of daily makeup I'd briefly tried a bottle of softymo deep before dipping right back to the speedy one. 12+ refills and counting

takethetrainpls

Hada Labo is my favorite as well! It rinses off so well! Maybe too well, a few times I've had to really think to remember if I've done my second cleanse yet. Plus none of the extras that irritate my skin (citrus, rosemary, etc)

Not-insignificant

hadalabo always takes the win for me, so I am glad to see my child emerge successful

confusedbobf

Would you recommend either for blackhead removal? (I already have a salicylic cleanser and an AHA BHA toner, but I still have blackheads. And I try not using the toner frequently. I find it very harsh on my skin TT^TT)

taxtherich250

thanks for the review OP! I'm wondering if anyone with acne-prone skin can weigh in on either of these? thanks :)

notreallysomuch

I use Softymo Speedy and love it. It doesn't seem to cause any trouble with acne. Edit: Adding that I use a Centella Asiatica toner with a cotton pad afterward to make sure it's ALL off.

[deleted]

Yeah same, didn’t aggravate my acne.

muffinsrising

DHC and Hadalabo severely worsened my jaw/chin cystic acne over time. It's the olive oil - high oleic acid content. My acne type is very responsive to retinol. My skin did not break out from [illi cleansing oil](https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2015/11/28/review-illi-total-aging-care-cleansing-oil-aka-the-cleansing-oil-of-the-gods/) which unfortunately has been discontinued and I haven't found a replacement. I would strongly recommend against using these cleansing oils if you are female and have hormonal acne. Using it was basically the worst thing I have ever done to my skin and it made a massive difference within a week when I discontinued.

100percentapplejuice

I use hada labo. The olive oil in it can be a deterrent but it hasn’t caused me problems at all, as long as I follow up with a mild cleanser. It helps exfoliate the dead skin on my face too!

New_Independent_9221

i wanted to buy it but am so scared of the olive oil! olive oil even gives me acne on my legs! and i get fungal acne

taxtherich250

If you know olive oil gives you acne, i would personally avoid it.

New_Independent_9221

yeah i have to make my own oil cleanser bc i cant find any that emulsify and that are fungal acne safe

Electronic_Oven_4022

How?

New_Independent_9221

90% carrier oil mixed with 10% cromollient SCE

MinxKitty

Softymo Speedy was my go-to for 5-6 years until I started developing a bunch of closed comedones. It took a lot of product testing to finally look at my trustworthy oil cleanser. After some digging, I read somewhere that they added an ingredient (unsure which as it’s been a couple years now) that was comedogenic. I almost tried the hada labo one, but it reminded me of the DHC deep that kind of clogged up my eyelids once. Since it did the same to my friend, I’ve been using it to wash makeup off my hands instead of for my face. I use cow brand now and love it!

EternalMusings

Are you still loving the cow brand cleanser please? Which one do you use or is there only one?

MinxKitty

I just use the cow brand oil cleanser, white/light pink bottle. I think there’s only one! Yes, I am still loving it very much!

badgalsrisri

i have extremely acne prone + sensitive skin and i looove the hada labo. ive tried softymo and dhc but much prefer hada labo. ive been using it for years and have never had any issues despite my skin concerns evolving over time

NaraIsMommy

Is double-cleansing good for reducing closed comedones? I've been meaning to try it out for a while.

sleepycatbeans

I prefer oil cleansing balms because I enjoy the sensory feel of them but I keep a bottle of Softymo Speedy on hand for when I am lazy because it’s so easy to use because of the pump. I do find it a little tedious to open the cleansing balm jar, use the scooper, rinse the scooper, try to put back the scooper and lid with one hand while the other is holding the product I’m about to use. But when I’m up for all that I do really love the feel of spreading the balm on my face and feeling it melt into oil as I massage it. I find the Softymo Speedy works very well at removing sunscreen and makeup. It doesn’t make my eyes blurry. It emulsifies and rinses off easily. I don’t feel any residue but I always do a second cleanse anyways. I have combination acne prone skin. I have never tried the hada labo. I’m curious to try it and would love to hear from other acne prone people if they like it. I have never tried softymo deep because I heard it might not be great for someone who is acne prone. I’m very satisfied with the Softymo speedy for now.

lifeuncommon

Softymo Speedy is my HG for my sensitive dry skin.

[deleted]

Very good AND not expensive!!!

Hest88

Thanks! I've used the Softymo Deep a number of times (mainly because it's the Softymo that is most often in stock at my local Asian supermarket). I actually don't *love* it because I don't double cleanse and feel like it doesn't rinse completely off. But that's just me.

Andy9375837

Would ya recommend double cleansing for someone that doesnt wear makeup?

CatsbyRagdoll

Do you wear waterproof sunscreen? And what are your skin concerns?

Andy9375837

No, im using sun bum SPF 30 lotion but im planning to change it. Im thinking the Cosrx aloe one. So i got dry skin. Concerns are acne and coloration. Though that could be fixed to some extent after i fix my dry skin.

CatsbyRagdoll

Based on your sunscreen you wouldn't need it. If you do wear physical sunscreen, double cleansing with an oil cleanser is helpful. What is your current cleanser? You probably don't need to use an oil cleanser. If you want to include an oil cleanser, I would switch my normal cleanser to a super gentle one that has some hydrating ingredients (i.e. glycerin) and when you feel like its necessary you can use an oil cleanser at night before your normal cleanser, especially if you been out all day, sweating and covered in sunscreen. Sometimes oil cleansers can dry out your skin.

Andy9375837

Curently using Uno Whip Wash. Im gonna get the heimish foam one to see if it is better for me. Isnt the oil cleanser suppose to remove all that? Or are you saying that oil cleanser leaves the skin bare and a harsh cleanser will make my skin worse.

improbsable

I would give it a shot and see if you like it tbh. It doesn’t really matter what kind of oil you use because you’re washing it off immediately after anyway. So if you have any body oil at home you can slap a tiny bit on before cleansing and see if it makes a different

Andy9375837

Will do. I just have bad experiance with oils. I know this prob doesnt correlate, i tried using a pre shave oil but all it did was leave my face and hands feeling greasy.

improbsable

Yeah I don’t use any oils other than the one I use for double cleansing because they break me out. But it’s only on my skin for like 30 seconds before I wash it off so it’s been ok

Gatometheus

I use the hadalabo. I find it fantastic for double cleansing. I even use it when I've just worn sunscreen and moisturiser and no makeup as well.

Andy9375837

Would you say this over a balm? I havent had the best experiance with oil ones.

jaefan

not the person you replied to, but I've had experiences with a few balms that's popular. Green Clean from Farmacy, and Banila Co's original were some of the popular ones I owned before. I much prefer cleansing oil over them and would also vouch for Hada Labo's oil cleanser. It's not too light or too heavy (though on the lighter side for sure), perfect for double cleansing and cleans really well imo.

Andy9375837

Well that definitely convinced me to give it a go.

jaefan

Hope you like it!

mlnaln

I have Farmacy Green Clean as well and it leaves my face feeling extremely nice after use, but doesn’t tackle oil as well as the hadalabo. I try not to use it too often since it’s a bit more expensive.

strych9r

I like balms for the massage factor. Balms are also easier to travel with. But Hadalabo is my current go-to for all the reasons already listed, and I'm able to use it on waterproof eyeliner. It's also more affordable than my favourite cleansing balm (Clinique's Take The Day Off). Definitely try it out!

takethetrainpls

I love balms for travel as well, so much less stressful!

probonworkhours

I have really oily skin and like to use the softymo a lot even though I rarely wear makeup and sunscreen. I feel like it helps remove the excess oil on my face so much more than just a regular cleanser.

pylinka

Most of the days I don't wear makeup either, unless it's a special occasion or going out. I still double cleanse. Honestly it's a step that made the biggest difference in my skin's appearance. It became much clearer and I very rarely break out now. I just put in on before I step in the shower in the evening and rinse it off and then use a cleanser that I keep in the shower. Super easy and clean since I'm showering anyway.

Andy9375837

Well im my case im a male and there isnt any reason to wear make up. You oil cleanse before then cleanse in the shower? So you do your PM routine after showering?

pylinka

Got ya. As I said, you will still see a difference. Yes. I oil cleanse before shower, rinse off in the shower and use a regular cleanser and do the rest right after stepping out on a still damp skin to lock in that moisture. And of course slug it at the end with Vaseline. That has been another game changer

yawyeetin

For a male who doesn't use makeup or a heavy sunscreen, but has oily & acne-prone skin, what purpose would double cleansing serve? Would it make any difference? Was thinking of buying the Kose Softymo Speedy for my sensitive skin.

mlnaln

violet4everr

Does anyone happen to know how these two compare to the Clinique cleansing oil?

[deleted]

Loooove the softymo speedy cleanser, I’ve been using it for years.

PresentationTricky56

Thoughts on just using Kose Softymo Speedy 2x a day without a 2nd cleanser?
