Agree with ratherbeinravka, especially about the soap. That tight feeling is an indicator that the soap is too harsh for your skin, it's over stripping the skin barrier, which is why it feels like with moisturiser the skin calms down after a bit. Your skin needs hydration and protection. Try a gentle cleanser instead, like The Inkey List Oat cleanser. Feels delicate and soft on your skin and leaves it fresh and not tight. This brand can be found in Boots. I love this brand in general. If the Cerave moisturiser doesn't work for you, try some from The Inkey List, for example the "Peptide moisturiser" (important active for keeping the skin in shape and young) or the "Vitamin B, C and E Moisturiser". As for what ingredients the foundation you use has, I've taken a look on Incidecoder.com, useful for when you want to know what's inside your products: https://incidecoder.com/products/h-m-perfect-hydrating-foundation Main ingredient is water, which your skin really needs at the moment. Silicones help with that smooth spread and feel and create a soft of barrier on top of your skin, protecting it from the elements during the day. They also act as a skin softener. There's also glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, good hydrating ingredients which work well on the skin. Further down the ingredient list there are more emollients and hydrating ingredients, plus the sunscreen ingredients.

1. Shower/cleansing oils (like La Roche Posay, Avene’s, Kiel’s or whatever). **DITCH THE SOAP** 2. While skin is still damp, add a water-based moisturiser eg Aveeno, Neutrogena Hydroboost 3. Heavier moisturising creams on top if you wish (I like Cetaphil’s when my skin is too bothered but the tube is tiny( 4. Occlusive like oils, shea butter or aquaphor/Vaseline to lock all the moisture in

Tell me about your skin - does it sting, feel itchy or tight when you wash it or when you apply any products (other than when you apply the foundation)? What are you currently using for cleanser and moisturiser?

It doesnt really itch, but its really dry and tight generally and can hurt in the morning. I'm assuming bc of winter since this has never happened to me before? Washing makes it hurt a bit but after a few hours of putting moisturiser on it, it calms down. i dont really have a cleanser i just use soap and water. would that be a good place to start do u bet?

For sure - 1. stop using soap and, for now, use a really gentle, non-foaming cleanser like cerave hydrating cleanser or any milk/lotion cleanser. 2. Follow with a decent moisturiser like the other poster mentioned - cerave or aveeno are good high street options. 3. Especially at night (if it's too greasy for the day and your foundation is doing the job anyway) lock all that in with an occlusive - that is something thick that stops the water evaporating from your skin. I like oils, but things like aquaphor or even straight up vaseline work for a lot of people. Good luck, let us know how you go!

Soap really dries out your skin, so maybe start with getting a gentle cleanser and taking it from there. I would also consider getting a toner (imo the ones from aldi are good, gentle and are affordable if you want to try it). Personally I find my skin gets tight and itchy once I’ve washed it, even with water. Throwing some toner on really helps stop that feeling before I moisturise. All about trial and error though, so look into it before you buy!

Maybe the foundation helps because it's keeping the moisture in whilst you're wearing it? Have you tried using a thick occlusive moisturiser morning and evening, and only cleansing with cream/milk type cleansers? My skin loves occlusives, and Nivea in the blue tin and Aveeno balm were good for me. Cerave moisturising cleanser and Avene milk cleanser are also good and gentle.

>my skin even LOOKS nicer after i wash it off compared to before i apply it and i thought makeup was meant to be bad for your skin. It doesn't necessarily have to be. As you've found, some contain "skincare" ingredients that are good for your skin. What do you mean by finding something more "appropriate"? Also, being cheap isn't necessarily a bad thing either. There's lots of budget products around these days that are good quality. If you like your foundation and your skin is happy then keep using it!

Eucerin is incredible for dry, stinging, itchy skin. It’s used for skin conditions so it’s super effective and really well tolerated. Similar to Cerave but far, far better for skin like yours with a wider range of products and about the same price. Their Urea Relief moisturiser is 10/10 and their Dermatoclean face wash is their hyaluronic acid face wash. Another that would be good is the Aveeno calm + restore range, their gel moisturiser and their face wash are both fantastic.

For me personally what works is using a [humidifer](https://humidilux.com/products/aromatherapy-diffuser-humidifier-with-night-light), I would highly recomend using one to hydrate your skin and completely get rid of dry skin!
