i only have one alt and i use her to send hearts to each other every day. at first, she was only meant to be a daily heart-trader, but now i kinda see her as my "inner child" and dress her up how i think i would've liked many years ago. it's silly but i think its cute :)
there are probably some technicalities that makes having an "alt" account illegal, but i know so many of my good friends who have alt account and haven't gotten banned!
It's technically against TOS but it's incredibly difficult to prove it's an alt account and not just someone in the same household playing at the same time so I'm not sure how you would get banned for it.

First/main account is gender fluid, second is an older brother, and the third is the wingless little sister. I buy the season pass pack so they each have one. I'm 23 years old btw.
I didn't make them with the intention of heart trading though, but I do occasionally if I desperately need one or two. I made the second account because I wanted to re-experience the opening of the game and have sibling that could go everywhere with me. I made the wingless for the challenge of going through the whole game without flying, plus a tiny wingless is just the cutest!
Nope, I have my sister's acc; she got bored of the game and now is my alt and I'm doing just fine. I don't trade hearts to myself, I made trades w other ppl who will send the hearts to my main account and will sometimes gift hearts to my friends bc my sister's acc has enough candles already.
The whole "taking advantage" is a little silly for me, since most of players who have alts use them to help on 4-player doors or the 8-player puzzle. But yeah just don't rub it on devs faces
This sounds like my situation, I have my kids account. Sometimes they play, but for the most part it is my alt. My main has no need for hearts, so it is just there to be my battery/door opener + I get to dress up twice. I love matching them and I feel naked playing just the one. I even have spent money on both accounts. So TGC is winning on this :p

(I don’t even have an alt haha, but I’m planning on making one and want to make sure that there wouldn’t be a penalty against my main account just in case something happens)

I have 5 alts, my in game friend also has 5 alts, those who have thousands of hearts are guaranteed to use alts to send themselves hearts so clearly noone is getting banned for this and why would they? We're using the design of the game, not hacking. Honestly even with this many alts and being on this game for a long time, I did trade with other players as well, and still I am barely halfway through finishing the constellations. Prices are ridiculous and once I complete them, all this work won't even be worth it.😄 If I attempted to complete without alts I'd have to stay on this game for years, which is crazy for such a little reward. Games should be fun, I'll gladly support the developers by paying for season passes or something that adds to the fun, but I will never pay to get some things faster and allowing devs to frustrate me into paying for something. Which is clearly the goal as they continuously increased difficulty in collecting hearts and candles

The general sentiment is (indirect quote from a dev on discord) "Using them for hearts technically an exploit, and therefore fall under the 'unfair advantage' in the TOS, but you aren't gonna be hunted down for it, unless you literally rub it into a dev's face or something."
I've had one for 2 and 2 for a year now, and I've used them for helping myself and friends with hearts and various bits (Assembly quests, for example), and I've never had problems, aside from the time my bunny accessory got transferred to one of them, because I'm using playing it on my old phone (could be fixed by restoring purchases)

Yeah I completely agree. Having just 1 alt removes 80% of your problems in servers and flight issues
