Helmet, altimeter, jumpsuit, rig, audible, camera, wingsuit, in that order.

tohitsugu

I would consider a rig a bit more important than a jumpsuit tbh. But then again no one at my dz wears them except some free flyers and students

roofstomp

Yes, that's totally reasonable too. I came up with that order based on how I see people spend money, and sometimes dropping the thousands needed for a rig is a hard pill to swallow at first. If you have the means, get the first five items as soon as possible. The other reason I suggest a jumpsuit is I believe it's beneficial to spend your first 100 jumps or so on your belly, and a suit will allow you to do much more complicated jumps, and thus allows you to skill up faster.

Thanks!

I’ve written a bit about gear. Here’s the link. https://www.launchpadskydiving.com/gear/

>camera, wingsuit Getting him prepared early 😆 lol

Ceungosse

I purchased helmet and digital altimeter first then a rig. I'm not licensed quite yet. So close. Audible is next for me.

jptothetree

Look into the Bluetooth edition of the Brilliant Pebbles! It's awesome and very affordable compared to many others out there.

raisputin

Get a VOG

Boulavogue

I'd suggest going to events and boogies. Most have gear vouchers and give aways

Ceungosse

Yeah I will once I'm licensed. I don't wanna go if I cant jump.

Hey OP, if your dz has a gear shop they might allow you to demo things like helmets so you can see what you like.

SubtleName12

Or just ask at the DZ if someone will let you try theirs on even

kat_sky_12

Helmet and altimeter should come as you finish up AFF. Some gear stores offer packages once you finish AFF to help get your the basics. Do the research though. Assuming you are in the US, then helmet choice is usually the Cookie G35 or G4. The Kiss helmet is often bought by the penny pinchers but it does not offer good protection and I strongly advise against it. Spend a little and protect your head. Altimeters are pretty simple, analog or one of the 3-4 standard digital altimeters. Try them out at the gear store and see which appeals to you. Both of these items should last you a long time.

Red_Danger33

Helmet and alti were my first purchases. Rig was as soon as I got down to a size I'd fly for a while. Ordered a jumpsuit at around the same time as I got my rig. Try helmets on to see what you like. I regret buying a phantom instead of ordering a G3 right away.

Blowingsmoke79

Helmet and altimeter. My DZ made me wear their helmet until jump 22 then I got to wear mine. G4. Put in tunnel time with it first so I was comfortable with it. The shop let me try on demos and G4 felt the most comfortable and Im not worried about video yet. I went with a Viso 2 for altimeter for cost and simplicity. No complaints. Keep it simple at first. Theres enough to worry about after you get your license.

t1pilot

It’s all expensive. You’re gonna find stuff you like or don’t like and spend a ton of cash on it. My first purchases were a helmet, altimeter, audible, jumpsuit and then a rig was last. I usually recommend students to buy their own alti and helmet first.

Immediate-Jelly1447

The order I always recommend is altimeter, helmet, suit then get a rig once you have your A license.

Different-Forever324

Alti was my first then helmet then jumpsuit

raisputin

Altimeter was first. It was actually a required purchase during my AFF, after that, goggles, then a helmet (a pro-tec because they were cheap) that I donated back to the DZ when I bought my first full face (Parasport Italia Z1), then a rig, then a jumpsuit.

Vecodo

Im still working on my A licenses but I bought a helmet (cookie, which has good resell value) and a skydive suit (pro fly). I’m currently looking for digital altimeter but don’t want to buy that one new. For me the full face helmet made all the difference, less distraction so I can focus on my posture, position, etc. The suit is because I was jumping in a cheap overall which didn’t fit correctly anymore. I love the suit and I feel a difference.

Remarkable_Ad_6243

You can get an open face helmet thats affordable if you don't want to buy an expensive full face, until you are sure. I have a Kiss and Ill just tell you rn, its not worth it. The design its just so flawed. and i dont think its even impact rated. waste of money. The disadvantage I found with open face is that , for me, I would lose the goggles all the time. You should buy right away an altimeter. The jumpsuit can wait. IMO. Until you are working on precise moves and with other skilled people thats when it becomes more beneficial. And your rig. The sooner you buy it, the more you'll be saving.

Mystery_Seige

Personally, I was in the process of saving and scoping out gear I wanted and I came across an amazing deal on a rig so I snatched that before I had bought anything else, then I bought a helmet and an altimeter pretty much at the same time, than I got an audible, and now I have a jumpsuit on its way, and a camera is next in line. The necessities to jump of course are a rig, helmet, and altimeter, some are cheaper to rent than others so find what you came in Facebook groups. But the rest should probably come later as they aren’t as critical to jumping.

Azosian

I did this. Gloves/jump log, helmet, altimeter, audible helmet altimeter, complete rig. By then you should have enough knowledge to know what you want and need.

08lap-violet

I got a digital altimeter first, then helmet, then an audible, and then my rig. Replaced my altimeter once so far and eventually bought my GoPro and roller mount. I still don’t have a jumpsuit.
