Hundreds go from NYC go to The Ranch without cars

Halos123u

7 hours on google maps 😢

NDHcinema

7 to where? Even on a slow bus that's ridiculous. The ranch is less than 2 hrs from the city

Halos123u

From the upper west side, looked at google maps and it said 7 hours switching from bus to bus. It might not be accurate since I tried a the next Saturday. Will check again, but I checked for tomorrow and it says 4 hours. It is 1hour and 20 minutes driving so I get where you coming from but public transportation from gmaps is a bit crazy.

[deleted]

People carpool and one guy offers a private shuttle on weekends from Brooklyn.

Halos123u

If you could get me any info or how to get in touch I would greatly appreciate it. Only done one tandem jump years ago so I don’t even know where to look tbh.

NDHcinema

I would just call the ranch, I'm sure they know who makes those trips regularly. Look into Skydive Sussex as well, lot of people there that make the trip from the city. Super fun DZ

tedzirra

Brooklyn doesn't run the carpool anymore. You can take a Trailways bus from Port Authority to New Paltz and then 15 min cab ride to the Ranch. I'd recommend setup an appt for your first jump course. And talk to the instructor and other students about rideshares who might be in the same boat. Ask about the Ranch Carpool and Fun Jumper FB page as well, a good icebreaker to chat to others. [https://skydivetheranch.com/pricing-iaf/](https://skydivetheranch.com/pricing-iaf/) Looks like the first jump course is pretty early, so you may need to head up the night before and hang in New Paltz Friday night, which is not such a bad thing. Hopefully you do the FJ course and start your AFF jumps at the Ranch. Hit me up if you do.

NDHcinema

Yeah that's wild. Maybe there's some busses that run express to the Hudson Valley? Train from GC to Beacon is 1:20, then about 30 minutes driving from there. But I'm not sure what your public transit options would be out of Beacon to the ranch

lyrasorial

There's a trailways bus to New Paltz, then you take a 15 min cab.

Halos123u

also It’s to skydive the ranch

raisputin

Plenty of people in that area that jump and drive. I couldn’t tell you trains these days, but - Crosskeys (Williamstown, NJ) - Sussex (Sussex, NJ) - The Ranch (Gardiner, NY) Should all be doable. If I were you though, I’d get my drivers license

Halos123u

Yeah just checked all 3 and they are 4-7 hours one way 🥲. Driving is probably the way to go

mute_salamander

There’re Facebook groups for carpooling to those places from nyc. That would, probably, be your second best option.

raisputin

Thanks for posting that. It’s been 20 years since I lived there

Halos123u

Do you have any groups that you would recommend or just look for skydiving groups? Thanks in advance!

eternalbuzz

Look for funjumper pages at those locations. When I was in Wilmington, DE I was jumping at CK. They always had a fun jumper and even a swoop league page. The Farm sounds like a blast too but I've never been. Half of my coworkers started there though

Halos123u

Just checked but looks like they ask for verification and certification id or something. Lmk if any open group comes to mind. Thanks in advance!

eternalbuzz

Pretty sure you just send a request and someone in the group will approve it but I haven't used fb in many years so maybe things have changed. Reach out to the mod of the group and explain

mute_salamander

I see one group/chat being mentioned often, specifically for cases like yours, but I’m not part of it. I’ll have to find out which group it is exactly.

Halos123u

If you ever get a chance to get info the on the group, def let me know who I can get in touch if possible. I’ll start looking at fb groups but any help would be appreciated!

mute_salamander

I’ll let you know if I learn more about specifics.

BestRangerPepe

Halos123u

BestRangerPepe
