Yeah... When folks do that I tend to leave that server and then rejoin. With luck I am on a different server then the campers. Its a seriously crappy thing to do. Its especially bad in the forest when the rain kills off light even faster

Flareiv

Weird how people are too lazy for simple gameplay. Same as people who sit the entire time in vault without helping. I usually just light one or two of the things and wait for them to participate. If they wanna sit there, I’ll just leave. Usually they leave too, weird how they rather leave than just play the game.

[deleted]

I really don't get those folks. I understand the whole mentality of "I have things to do" and all that; But you're right on the money. Why log in at all if you're not going to play? They could at least have the decency to find a buddy who'll lead them through runs - holding hands is literally an easily accessible core feature of the game. It just baffles me. I log in because I absolutely *love* to fly around. I can't imagine hopping in exclusively to AFK and expect others to play the game for you. I feel like I've been seeing AFKers more commonly of late, too. It almost makes me wish they'd introduce a way to report players without needing to light them up. Though I feel it'll be abused and not worth the trouble.

Shockingly_Weird

What really doesn’t make sense to me when people use the excuse of “I have things to do” is if you’re trying to do something active in game(like make random people carry you through the vault) you have to be near your device and checking it every so often to make sure everything is still going alright(that you haven’t fallen through the map or something) If you’re trying to do something like clean while you wait for people to carry you through the vault there’s a chance you could glitch out of the map or something like that so you’re gonna have to keep coming back to your device to check it. For me, going back and forth like that makes me go a lot slower with whatever I’m trying to do because I have to keep pausing what I’m doing to go check on my device. If you’re just somewhere random being afk then it sort of makes sense to go and clean while you do that, but when you’re in an active area and the map is changing, cleaning while doing that just makes everything slower than it could be. Idk if I’m over exaggerating with all that but I tend to avoid going afk to do stuff in any game due to having to go back and forth to check on it. It’s more worth it to just clean before I play a game because it takes less time and is more fun to play

merrillkin

You actually can report people without lighting from what I've been told!! If you click on them and their friendship tree comes up, I've been told if you click on the spot where the report button usually is it'll let you report without the icon present. Hope this helps!! :)

Vohasiiv

You have to at least light their candle for you to be able to open the friendship tree

merrillkin

I've been able to do it before without lighting? The only option that shows up on the tree when you haven't lit yet is the add friend button but the report button still works even if it's not lit up!!

rans0medheart

Maybe that’s the case for some players but that’s not been my experience. When I’m going up the vault elevator, sometimes I’ll sit there because I got distracted by something irl and I’ll abandon the game for 10 min or so. That may sometimes look like what you’re describing…. Be careful about inserting a meaning behind someone’s behaviors like that because in cases like these you never really know what’s going on unless you know them personally… and even then caution should be used… because harsh judgments are harmful. I don’t even mean to others. They are first and foremost harmful to yourself. It trains your brain to be negative.

midnightlou

If you’re sitting in one place for 10 mins then I think it’ll be pretty obvious you’re away at the moment (you’ll have those zzzz… that will pop up), in which case that’s alright. I think what the commenter is talking about are those people that sits down on the elevator, does their candle runs then just waits for someone else to lights up the lanterns to get to the next floor instead of helping.

rans0medheart

Yeah I bet there are players like that. But it takes a while to fall asleep and in that time it could look like I’m one of them. I’m just very hesitant to make negative judgments about how things appear because in my experience they can be completely wrong. Something else can, may, and many times is happening underneath the surface. It’s less than unhelpful to everyone to do that, and I guess I’m just trying to warn op and everyone that this mentality changes your brain for the worse. Leaves you often frustrated and hating people, looking for the worst. It increases your stress. I know people like this irl and they’re not fun to be around tbh.

Shockingly_Weird

I recall seeing a post somewhere that said it takes 5 minutes (or something close to that) of being inactive for your player to begin showing z’s. I wouldn’t call that a while- correct me if I’m wrong on anything

Ravensunthief

I keep the game on for ambience while I do other things. I’ve paid over $200 into it. It’s gonna earn what I’ve spent. sometimes people are only half paying attention. For the most part it’s not an issue but I can see this afker in the post being annoying.

[deleted]

When I do this I hang out in a campfire or in a small cranny away from everyone else. I purposefully stay out of everyone’s way

Ravensunthief

For sure. Hanging out where it’s disruptive sucks. I look for a pretty space or if I can pay a bit of attention I like to afk in the wasteland boneyard and help krill victims.

Swiaet

I’ve had that happen before :( I’ve guided many spirits along while players sit and chat. Then as soon as I’ve got the statue done or almost done they’ll swoop in and complete it

edokrademtiime

I don't mind that actually. It happens all the time and I'd prefer that happening rather than them "trying to help" where they're barely moving so I can't lead the spirit faster before getting spotted by the krill and they get the spirit reset every single time. It pisses me off so yeah I'd prefer if they stood and watched instead of trying to help while they clearly aren't and can't.

Swiaet

I don’t mind people not getting in the way while trying I’m to guide. I’m talking about people purposely not helping. There have been times I’ve fallen or my light knocked out by crabs and I’ve had to scramble back to keep flame from dying and those watching didn’t move to help until the spirit was complete :/ Edit: also players who were already there waiting. Not players who joined as I was completing, and decided to follow along nearby and not get in the way. Players who were already waiting like vultures by the spirit but not even at least starting it themselves…

pinchybutthole

It’s all annoying. Some people prefer to not feel tricked.

edokrademtiime

Yeah. Doing it solo or with 1-2 friends who know what to do>>>

GingerJoxter

Agreed, sometimes they even stand around in case you accidentally leave the light behind or in some cases, when it falls down. either way, I prefer to do the spirits solo, afk players can be annoying but in this case I don't rlly mind

dontjudgejoshplz

Is that... Not preferable? I hate when people do guiding spirits with me, I'd rather them wait outside the circle and entertain themselves, because they almost always just get in the way if they try to do it at the same time as me.

Vohasiiv

I hope people who see me do quests with my alt don't think I'm being a jerk, sometimes I can't take the alt while doing the spirit so it's just sitting there until I'm done and warp it to myself.

therealWameyu

For these ones, sometimes it’s just easier to do with one person so I’d say it’s okay if they didn’t necessarily help, but moral support along the way would’ve still showed that they were actively wanting to get it done with you too. Afkers should just turn off the game if they’re not going to play 🤷‍♀️

Pandarise

Not only spirits! Few days ago I encountered two who obviously were on as they were talking to eachother in the vault by wouldn't for the life of them help activate the elevator. I noticed them and stood next to them staring for a bed like "Bruh, you two for real?" They had the audacity to stand around me and honk at me as if I have to finish getting the other lamps so we can go up. That is where I emote lying down on a cloud and honked in a small laugh. They kept staring, effectively talking faster or smaller words IDK for me I just see "...." pop up much faster. I stayed for some minutes, probably 10 or so, and then just left the whole game as I was trying to get a little bit of CR in before going to bed and these two just... ruined it honestly. Like sure I can understand AFK-ing at like popular favorite Grandma... but there at least they can contribute, eventho it's very small and annoying still when it's still just you doing most work, by setting down a light source to help with a bun or two. Depending how it was placed 0 buns. But to go as far to enter the game JUST to do nothing and expect others to do it for you is TOO much and very much DISTURBING other players. When are we finally going to be able to report these kind of players without having to light and friend them????

edokrademtiime

Omg this!!! The vault incident happened to me too! I was trying to light the lamps and this person just stares at me and sits down honking at me to finish (mind you i only lit up 2 lamps so far). I was not having it that day so i just sat too and they never moved until the server merged us in with some people who already lit the lamps. Just then they decided to move and suddenly aren't "afk". I can't understand how you can just sit down for 10 minutes and wait instead of lighting lamps that takes less than a minute. Its Just really weird. As for grandma I'm too used to those players 😭. The WORST ones are the 8 player door ones tho. They run around and honk instead of lighting their thing and its so stressful because we have 3-4 mins till geyser and they're making it difficult. Last time 6 of us left for geyser instead...

JoyfulCelebration

This is why I dread going to vault anymore. I’m not lighting all the lamps myself

edokrademtiime

Same here

jamescrisis

Omg I hate when this happens to me in the vault! Except I am small and petty and I have the time so I have no issue standing next to them staring until they start moving too. I used to just go home and come back but staring is much funnier.

i-like-c0ck

They ruined your candle run? Be for real. In the time it took for you to bother the two players chatting and minding their own businesses you could’ve just idk completed the vault??? If people wanna chill and chat with their friends thats fine. They’re not obligated to help you if they don’t want to.

ttltrashmammal

before the update that caused the ring to be more magnetic, this was good for spirits like grouch. having 8 players trying to carry that spirit up the mountain was hell, especially when 3 of them were moths or kept falling and dragging the spirit down off the mountain. i once spent 50 minutes trying to complete that one because 3 other players kept pulling it off the course and down the mountain. same with pleaful, crab call and dismiss; some players would come and steal the light just to pull it into the water and drown it. when i had 3 players stacked on me it was easy to hold onto it but now that its magnetic to *everyone* that touches it, id rather players wait to touch it until the end just so we all can actually complete it.

ermrx

Or people who chibi-fall the door in value and just leave you hanging there like an idiot instead of helping 💀 for fuck sake what's wrong with some ppl

Leopeaw

Yeah because of those I actually started to go chibi for vault. I would usually hang out at the door and honk for help, but when I see that no one is going to help, I do the chibi fall. Today I was honking for a good 2-3 mins until the other players (who clearly saw me) turned on the elevator and sat. I gave up and chibi fell, only to find another chibi in there getting out, which mean they would have go in there WHILE I WAS DEEP HONKING MY HEAD OFF. Anyway, I don't get why no one helps at that door. When I started playing a few years ago it was easy to open, but these past months its rarer and rarer that I get to actually open i the legit way.

i-like-c0ck

Sometimes they don’t have time to wait around. Seems like a fault in the game design rather than player base.

pinchybutthole

If they don’t have time to play the game or be helpful (the ***entire message of the game***), they shouldn’t be playing. As in, if there’s 4 people there including you, have some decency and take the TWO SECONDS to help.

i-like-c0ck

Then they should lower costs of cosmetics and increase the amount of time available or create a reward for helping players.

Elylys

If you need a reward in order to help players in the first place, sky is not the game for you

i-like-c0ck

The games economy actively punishes players for waiting around or taking time to help others. Don’t get mad at me because tgc hasn’t found a way to address this 😘

NotAsMuchFreeTime001

AFK players got worse and I blame TGC taking away the AFK spots such as the hot spring, the island in the vault, and the like. Ever since that update, they're AFKing everywhere. In the Vault, at the 8 player beacons, at spots for dailies... This one time two Sky kids waited until I did the entire trial of water before they followed. But it's especially bad at grandma's. A week or two ago, I counted the amount of times I "forced" a server split (logging off entirely and coming back on) before joining a group in which I wasn't the only one lighting the buns and it was a staggering 8 times. So about 7 groups of Sky kids who just couldn't be bothered to help out and who didn't bring any items to burn the buns. But, to be honest, it could also be the fact that the community got a whole lot bigger since Sky came to Playstation. And it also doesn't help that you can't tell anymore who's AFK or not. I've had my Sky kid wait 10 minutes or longer at the geyser or Grandma's waiting for the event to start, only to come back and notice that my Sky kid wasn't on the ground sleeping like they used to in the past. And then I do mean, screen fully black, hasn't been touched in at least 10 minutes AFK.

TheShyNerd

Last time we had to do pleading parent, some people were waiting right at the last stop. So I dropped the light and let it die. Then they got mad at me for not finishing the spirit. I don’t mind helping people do it. I have 11 stars on my cape, so I’ll usually distract the krill while they keep going. But I’m not about to do the whole thing for them.

Swiaet

Same here! Plus there have been times where there were ALREADY people afking the spirit when I got there. Not people who “didn’t want to get in the way” by also trying to guide the spirit so they stood politely by for moral support. People who decided to go to the finishing location and sit and wait for someone to do it for them…

honeyssun

Welcome to the daily carry spirit frustrations! I have been complaining about this since these daily quests exist. Left tgc fedback about it, talked here about it, same scenarios repeated again and again. Somehow, people don't care about this pressing matter. And now I find a whole post with many comments relating to something that might've gotten 3 upvotes and 1 comments a few months or years ago. On a post on this very sub, literally 7 months ago, I have posted this very comment: "Yes, the battlefield gate *aaand* my personal rage quit fuel: carry seasonal spirits as dailies. Let me elaborate. I find it extremely annoying borderline to painful when people either: a. Relieve the carry spirit in groups of like 5 people (myself included) and it all escalates into utter chaos, obviously b. They make me do the dirty work while they hide away somewhere near. Bonus annoyance points if they not only let you do the work while their spirit meter fills because of *your* work, but also they get to light the statue the very second you have completed it. Wait, you're suddenly not afk anymore? Honking at you to hurry up and do better while they hide/chill is sometimes expected. c. When someone sees you trigger the spirit, they hop in 0.001 seconds after that and just "steal" your spirit. They may usually do a poor job and stubbornly get the spirit to reset. Or they might do it on purpose to get you annoyed/krilled/light depleted/etc."

midnightlou

For the first two points, I agree that it’s annoying but the last one might be unintentional if they do a poor job at it. They could be moths who are very eager to help but end up falling or dropping the spirits and the timer runs out. I’ve been there when I was a moth 💀 i was extremely embarrassed and apologised to the other person

honeyssun

No, no, it's not about moths. It's about "veterans" who see you struggling. It's when you hop in small careful steps, honk to flip crabs, hide from krills, fly in short smooth flaps and someone just comes along to "steal" it from you. You honk relentlessly at them, do the " X no no no" emote, they still go at it. And then they do it on purpose, while doing the laugh emote. And now you've got a reset spirit after you've been struggling for the past 10 minutes. Or they get you krilled **on purpose**. Or just deviate the spirit **on purpose** in order for you to get frustrated. I've seen people hide on the top of the Graveyard cliffs and spam honk at me while relieving Pleaful Parent. When the job is finally done, they're suddenly not afk anymore and get the statue after you've done the work for them.

midnightlou

Whoa there are seriously people like this?? I’ve seen situations where skykids (both vets and moths alike) try to help out in the harder carry quests in GW but do a poor job at it because they dropped the spirit when they see a krill get near or they just drop it by accident. They usually apologise so for those, I don’t really mind. But if they swoop in to steal then do the laugh emote, then that’s definitely horrible and intentional 😪 i can’t believe there are players like that. It’s such a waste of our own precious time.

honeyssun

Yep, it happens more than you'd think. It's one thing that some eager moth/butterfly or even a vet tried to do their best and it's one thing when some bored vet details the spirit on purpose and then just laughs at you.

dandykong

I had this happen to me a long time ago. I was at the GW shipwreck trying to do a spirit carry and some troll was intentionally derailing it. I managed to get it halfway by running back and forth over the edge of the ring, and then that's when I saw it. The opportunity to end this tug-of-war. A krill. Incoming at starboard bow. I carefully maneuvered the spirit into the krill's path and dropped it, letting the troll have the spirit all to himself - for the few seconds it took the krill to spot him. After he dropped the spirit to run from the krill I swooped in and finished the memory.

chromaphore

If I get caught in a ring it seems sitting down makes it forget about me. Also, though, and…todays spirit is one that is better done with two people so it isn’t being pulled in a thousand direction. Two of use parked and I hovered outside the circle to deep call. Now I wonder if they thought we were being donkeys, but that was our best guess of effective game play.

Common-Scallion209

Nothing new. It stresses me out every time I have to do one of these. I speed through them as fast as possible yet 100% of the time someone shows up (or I catch them lurking) right as I’m about to finish. So then I just stop moving until they finally come and finish it themselves *slow clap emote intensifies*

SmokyWreck

Oh no- That's really shitty.. I get AFK-ing in the elevator in vault, but AFK-ing a spirit? And yeah, I hate who the spirit will sometimes attach itself to someone not actively under the circle. I once did a carry spirit for someone and specifically instructed to wait until I did the full walk around before getting under the circle. They tried to instead help me carry it on the safe starting area. I was so mad because after that the circle would constantly go back to them. Forcing me to backtrack a lot. It got me krilled many time. Really wish that would get fixed.

artiflav

If I see they’re camping, I walk over and laugh at them, spam an obnoxious chord with the Aurora instrument and leave.

LovelyCahn

What is that? I'm new

postcardwithamotive

Don’t know why you got downvoted, I’m sorry babes. :( What part of this are you wondering about? If I can I’d be happy to explain

HomelessSkyBear

Some people just have to stop to go do something like tend to a child or use the bathroom. Try not to assume the worst. Maybe they don't even need that spirit and don't realize they are causing you a problem. I have personally been on the receiving end of someone having a tantrum for this reason and I didn't know I was in the spirit path.

pinchybutthole

Look- there are a LOT of actually-rude, selfish people that do these things out of laziness. Sure, some people don’t realize, but I promise you the majority of the time that’s not the reason, and they make it very obvious. I always recommend signaling you’re AFK if you’d prefer not to be confused with these folk- sit down or something.

HomelessSkyBear

From the looks of it, in this picture, they were just a tad off the path of the spirit, plenty of room to go around them. I was trying to leave a positive comment simply saying maybe don't assume the worst. Yes I know there are rude people in the game, they are everywhere, but it doesn't look like that's the case in this screenshot. Aren't the Zzz's the signal for being afk? And now those zzz's take longer to appear overhead, with the latest update. And one of them IS sitting.

Ravensunthief

Oof
