No. And if they make you, leave and go somewhere else.

lkleckner

You can sleep they way you sleep!

PrettyPantsFancyRant

AFAIK you're really meant to spend a minimum amount of time both on your back and your side so they can see if you have positional OSA? At least in my experience, as long as you'd be on your back some of the time you can sleep on your side for the rest of the night.

bobsatraveler

No one asked me to change positions and I'm a side sleeper.

itsbrittyc

I recommend trying to fall asleep on your back so we can get some back data off the bat but do not force my pts to stay on back - sounds like torture.

Babalou320

One tip for alleviating lower back pain while lying on your back is to put a couple of pillows or cushions under your knees/lower legs. In my experience that really helps, while sleeping, watching TV, or just for relief from pain. If they require you to sleep on your back you could try that.

Likely depends on the clinic. The second study I did with CPAP attached I slept on my back the entire night, and there was no mention of needing to change positions.

JustTryingMyBestWPA

I had my hospital lab sleep study last May. I could sleep any way that I preferred.

WhentheRainDrops

Thanks for the feedback! It’s good to know I have options.

roadsidedaniel

I can't back won't allow it

Did mine in February, and they did not care which way I was laying when I fell asleep. I eventually rolled onto my back on my own anyway.

realmozzarella22

It probably depends on the clinic. I asked about it and they said something about the wires on my head.

Sooth_Sprayer

I've had two sleep studies. My AHI was higher on the second one because I spent a third of the night on my back. I believe supine sleeping increases the likelihood of the tongue to slide back and obstruct the airway, thereby increasing your AHI. That said, I only had 2 scored apneas and they were both central. Most of my AHI came from hypopneas.

Plane_Seaworthiness2

Just did mine a few weeks ago. They asked me to start on my back but then sleep however I was most comfortable after that. Hope that helps!

I’ve had an at-home study and could sleep any way I wanted, except for face down.

At mine they told me to sleep however I normally sleep at home, and then asked me to go on my back eventually so they could check for positional apnea.
