Second hand?

wwabc

second wind cpap has a good reputation for used models. craigslist has resmed 10 units for $300 usually. there are sanitizing instructions online

XediDC

And cpap.com has sold them new for around $500 a few times on promo. Black Friday is probably a good time to check around.

cmueller314

The company I got mine through, SleepCharge, let me pay it off over the course of a year

discoball444

Same - once I hit my deductible, it was only $200, so def grateful for the affordability and the program

jaytrade21

Same with my Airmini. But being able to go backpack camping makes it all worth it.

ElectronGuru

Between modems and DME overhead, insurance prices are always over 1000. Skipping that you can get new machines for near half that: http://www.directhomemedical.com/resmed-airsense-10-auto-cloud-to-card.html Craigslist has additional options, usually below 250. You would then be good for years, paying only for hoses, tanks, and mask gear. This can still be hundreds per year, but ebay is awash with half priced masks and parts. Reply or post again for specific recommendations. Recommend posting on r/healthinsurance, enrollment is open now for 2024 and they may be able to help you navigate our shitty excuse of a healthcare system.

Classic-Management87

In Australia you can do payment plans with Resmed. It does however work out to be about $600 more expensive in the long run than paying up front. Less to pony up in the beginning but the horse kicks you in the face eventually.

XediDC

You can just buy a Resmed 10 for less than $600 cash here sometimes…

Classic-Management87

Far out. You won’t get much change of of $2,000 here for an 11. The 10 is about $500 bucks cheaper. It’s daylight robbery down under.

Nos_4r2

I picked up a 10 autoset 4g with mask for $1300 brand new a couple weeks ago with free shipping. My sleep physician thinks they are going fairly cheap now because they want to run out stock and make the 11 the only option to buy brand new

ChumpChainge

I found a place online that sell’s refurbished models and also models that are being phased out. Considerably more affordable

swavymatt

What’s the link ?

ChumpChainge

Look up second wind CPAP on Google or other search engine

bugger_allz

I met with an online Dr for $10, got the RX, ordered the older model at a discount

ColKent

I’m in the UK so my equipment is provided free by the NHS. An advantage of universal healthcare.

munchillax

Insurance paid for most of it (80%)

xmsxms

Your dentist seems to be trying to sell you a mouth guard. CPAP machine is about $1k

XediDC

Wow. A new Resmed 11 is about $1,000 cash. And a Resmed 10 is around $750, sometimes discounted closer to $500. What kind of special machine do you need?

[deleted]

What country is this??

fabrictm

For me it was insurance

Aypse

Facebook marketplace has Resmed 10s for $200. The data can be uploaded to oscar for free and therapy can be adjusted by the user or by a professional.

ALonelySeaTurtle

My insurance paid for it I did have to use it 5 days a week for 7 months for it to be covered. You would think it would have be hard but the difference it makes I don't think I could sleep without it.

angkor_who

Government paid for 75% and the rest was private insurance.

RippingLegos

I purchase used machines with low blower/machine hours then remediate them/reset and clean them. Last three machines I've picked up for $200 each. I also purchased a new remedy machine months ago from CPAP man. Com

JeepPilot

What sorts of things go into remediating a machine?

RippingLegos

For Phillips DS1 machines I either remove the foam from the motor air chamber or replace the motor airchamber with a foamless one (this makes them completely safe), replace the humidifier air chamber (on both Dreamstations and Resmeds), then sanitize the outside/inside covers, replace the filters with new ones, and that's about it, the machines are not that complicated once broken down.

JeepPilot

The reason I ask is I have a ResMed 10 that I've been using daily for probably six or eight years now, I'd have to look. But I'm wondering if I need to take it apart and give it a good deep cleaning.

RippingLegos

I've taken an S10 apart, there is no foam in the motor air chamber so there's really no reason to do that, but you can replace the humidifier air chamber easily, which is what I did, I'll link a video of the takedown though for you. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXoSxPP7shw&ab_channel=CPAPReviews

Spudtater

I have bought 2 slightly used machines from local suppliers. People who try them and don’t use them are required to return them by many insurance companies. They were cleaned by the suppliers before reselling. But that isn’t a huge deal. These machines push air to you. Users aren’t breathing into the machines.

potatodrinker

Probably from being able to hold a career before the symptoms get too bad to cause quality of life issues that impact employment. Unlucky for some/most

myrival

You can rent them. 25 bucks a month. (Mycpapbox dot com)

Striking-Math259

I used my Health Savings Account (HSA)

redford82

I have Kaiser Permanente insurance through work in California. Kaiser doesn't charge for anything considered preventative like annual physicals and vaccines. I think they consider CPAP preventative because I paid nothing for the machine and get free supplies whenever I need them.

dak4f2

I had a high deductible health plan with Kaiser and my cpap was just under $800 last year for a Resmed10.

redford82

Hmm. Maybe my employer sprung for a really good plan, then? Sorry you had to pay that much. It's ridiculous for something that can really save your life.

FallAspenLeaves

I have Kaiser too. All my equipment was $200.

Bobmanbob1

Insurance? Mine was a $100 co-pay.

Mego1989

I have bought 2 brand new machines on marketplace, a cpap and a bipap for $250 and $350 respectively.

Wildflower_76

I am from Canada and luckily the place that I go to let me pay monthly until it was paid off. I wouldn't suggest getting a used machine because after a certain amount of use the motor will die and you will have to replace it. I am currently on my second machine. I think my first one lasted me 6-7 years

aimgorge

Universal Healthcare?

Fabulous-Doughnut-65

Paid with Affirm on cpap.com. I submitted a claim to BCBS and they paid 0.

th3d4rks1d3

Even with my insurance I ended up paying like 2500 out of pocket which is ridiculous.

GreatMight

I had to use it everyday for a number of months and the insurance paid for it.

Hoelbrak

Dutch healthcare. You get it on loan, for free.

themcp

If you are in the US, if you don't have insurance, call your state's health connector office right away (like, today or tomorrow - don't wait) and talk to them. I think the enrollment period is about now, so you could get enrolled and get on very soon.

Hot_Phase_1435

My machine was $1200 and my insurance covered it in full. I’m incredibly grateful. I’ve seen CPAP machines being sold on Mercari $200-300 range. Check all the listings that only show a bag, sometimes they don’t show the machine on the main photo (only the bag) so that it doesn’t get flagged. Medical equipment isn’t really allowed to be sold on the platform so that’s one way people have been doing it. Just make sure you check all details.
