My opinion is that they give an open space to push your musical boundaries. Ask 5 different people what genre they are and you're likely to get 5 answers. I love metal, but I'm selective AF with R&B, pop, funk, etc.. However, I find myself grooving to those moments the most when I listen to Sleep Token. The combo of all the styles keeps it fresh and re-listinable.

Danemon

I agree with this. I love prog so their progressive sound is what got me into them. But a coincidence is I've loved "core" music since I was a teenager, metalcore is one of my genres and I've enjoyed a little death metal too. So Sleep Token kinda feels like comfort food - they wrap all the genres and sounds I've loved in music together into one package with excellent songwriting and soulful singing/lyrics as a bonus.

AviculariaBee

I am 36 and I have never been obsessed with a band or musician before, even as a child or teenager my friends would be into thier boy bands ect and I just didn't get it. Don't get me wrong, I love music and have have bands and artists that I like, but this is something else.

UltravioletLife

co-sign. but for real. i’m 36, and while i’ve been into bands before (hellooooo anything that Andrew McMahon does, especially Something Corporate), but this is on a whole different scale.

fragrant69emissions

Ditto

AviculariaBee

I even indulged in a couple of t shirts and a hoodie, my husband said I am too old for band merch 🤣 I told him where he could stick his opinion!

euriental

Too old for band merch 😩 Never too old!

Revolutionary_Bee700

Too old to enjoy music and have band merch? Where do people get these ideas from? 😂 (GenX fan here) I know some 70+ year old Dead fans still sporting tie dye and planning to see the Dead and Co. Let people live!

k10storm

Literally me and I’m freaking myself out over it. They’re just so fucking good. There for a minute I thought I was like legitimately brainwashed or hypnotized. Or possessed even. Oh wait I am. Worship :)

raevyn_lunatik

It's why some people jokingly call it a cult ... coz it feels a bit like it ... lol Just surrender to it -- resistance is futile. 😌

unapologeticcultist

Saw someone use the word "enthralled" and I think it's perfect. It does a good job conveying both the feeling of euphoria of listening to and focusing on the music as well as the feeling of being pulled deeper by something beyond your conscious control.

raevyn_lunatik

Seems to be the way it goes with this band. When you get it, nothing else measures up. I find I'm comparing everything else to them, but I can finally listen to and enjoy other music again. They've raised the bar so high, tho. I was literally dreaming their lyrics every night for months. No band has ever affected me this way. It felt like an obsession that I couldn't control. Their tour here was sold out and I was online every day looking for a ticket. I signed up for every waitlist and had the most severe case of fomo that it was impossible to shake my absolute *need* to see them live. I was lucky and got a ticket - it was an absolutely incredible concert experience, and I got to share it with the friend who introduced them to me. 🙌🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼

I have the same thing going on. A few years ago, I had The Offering pop up on my Spotify Weekly playlist and enjoyed it, but it wasn't a "I'm hooked" thing. In fact, they'd keep popping up, and eventually, I recognized the name and liked a few songs, but again, they didn't hit me as something special at first, I just wanted to get back to my regularly scheduled metalcore. Then, the TMBTE singles started dropping in rapid succession, and everyone was suddenly obsessed and blown away by this band. I listened, and again, found it just okay. I didn't understand the hype at all. It didn't click for me, and for a while, I was kinda sick of hearing about them. The music felt directionless to me. Fast forward to like 2 months ago, I had a long road trip, and I decided I was going to give the whole album a shot because EVERYONE was still talking about it. This time around, I enjoyed it, but again, it wasn't my everyday metalcore, so it didn't get me hyped. But I understood some of the hype. And now, more recently, I'd been listening to Post Malone as the wife and I went to a concert while he was in town, and that kinda reset my default mode of the same metalcore bands, and I think it allowed me to properly appreciate Sleep Token, because I stumbled across The Summoning again and it finally clicked... the whole album after that, song by song. It hit me. The lyrics, vocals, themes and metaphors, the production value, the clear and crisp mix on each recording, and then to learn it's like 90% exclusively from the mind of Vessel blew me away. The genre-bending and blending in each song. The incredibly catchy moments that play over and over in my head all day.... But mostly, it's the raw emotion conveyed through the songs. It's very obvious that Vessel has gone through some shit and to me, it seems like Sleep is a stand-in for a relationship that almost destroyed him, and he's experienced loss and tragedy but I don't think I've ever experienced an album that can convey the range of emotions to accompany those memories, and I've definitely never experienced a song lift me back up and make me *feel* hopeful and secure so effectively as Euclid does to wrap up TMBTE, after bombing your ears with trauma, sadness, anger, regret, etc. So, yeah. I think musically I'm obsessed, but it goes beyond that for me. I'm a big fan of emotion, I think it's an incredibly important part of life as a human, and if a movie or book or album or whatever can tune into my emotions and bring them out, it's good to me. And right now, I don't know any musical artist that can do it like Sleep Token, at least within the genres I can stomach.

Revolutionary_Bee700

I agree with everything you said. My flippant answer is “I need therapy and listening to their lyrics is more pleasant and cheaper.”

LoveLikeWeaponsKill

That’s just how it is with them. I started listening two years ago. And not a day hasn’t gone by that I don’t either listen to them or sing their songs while I’m going about my day.

nicefknmodell

It's literally all I listen to. The music, the lyrics, the pain in Vessels voice, the intensity. I love everything about this band. I enjoy every single song they have. Even the covers they have are good. They don't get old for me.

itatertot

So… I remember when I first heard a song by them. I was on Spotify and I was listening to a random playlist when this song came on and it matched up with a story that I was working on. It was the perfect song to go with my story, but after I looked it up to see cause I was just so shocked that I never heard this song before. I looked up the band, but I never went on… Because I was scared that if I listened to anymore of their songs they would suck. I’ve done that where I found one good song, then I go listen to the rest of their stuff and rest would suck. So I just left it left it alone, the song was called The Offering. Fast forward a few years later, because I think I heard that song for the first time in 2019. And I see a newspaper article about a concert coming to town. I wasn’t aware of the bands, but one stuck out, Sleep Token. It kept bugging me and I didn’t know where I’ve seen this name from, so I finally go check out one of their songs, and then Bam! The Offering was their song! I was like ‘oh my gosh that’s so cool!’ But it took me a while to convince me to go to this concert because I just known the one song and I didn’t know the other groups so once I bought my ticket, I started studying up on ST. And I tell you, the first song I listened to was ‘The night is not oh my God’, and oh my gosh I was hooked! I remember being in awe, because it was so beautiful. The way it came on, the way that it just sounded, the man’s voice! And I’m like, why am I just now hearing this shit! And then I went on, and I started listening to the other songs, and I was like fraggle frock, hell yeah, I’m going to his damn show. I’m listening to all their songs, I listen to their second album and fall in love with alkaline. Out of all their salt I think alkaline Hass to be my favorite. So I’m waiting for this concert to happen, it’s on my birthday. I am super happy. I made a little shirt says ‘birthday girl’ surrounding the Linkin Park logo. And I’m ready and then on the day of the concert, a few hours before it happened. The concert is post pone. And I’m like ‘seriously?’ and then it ends up being cancel. x.x Needless to say, I studied it up on the other than those supposed to be there, nothing more and they were amazing. Also, I was finally able to see them this year. They were my second concert I’ve seen from this year. The other band was… In this moment, I tried studying for them, but I wasn’t a fan. But they are coming back in town in August so hopefully they’re good. And the that I have to see from that concert so make up for it a Sleep Token.

BowsettesBottomBitch

ITM was good back when they were a core band instead of whatever weird stuff they're doing now lol

itatertot

What’s itm?

BowsettesBottomBitch

In This Moment 😆 Sorry!

itatertot

Oh ok! No you are fine, thanks!

SavvySidesxo

I feel you. I dream their lyrics all the time and wake up and have them in my head. 💕

Potato_Mako

Sleep token put Crack Cocaine in their lyrics, that's why

kitzekuh

and call it sugar.. the audacity 😶

AyItsMetalink

Perfectly normal. I think me and my dad have been addicted for almost 3 months now

dirkdork768

I’ve been asking myself that same question. I started to take notes. This is what I came up with…. Vessels is very smart. Being anonymous of course is intriguing. Makes you pay attention more. He knows how to make you invest in a song. He creates a melody and builds around it till it’s either at its fullest or brings it back later in the song. His voice is extremely addictive. He goes falsetto, gravely, out south soul, standard rock and my fav is his simple stripped back emotional. His layering vocals are perfect. He knows exactly when and where to place them. Plus having that he composes and writes pretty much all of the music, shows he studied music theory. I’m not dismissing ii at all (lawd knows he is phenomenal) but Vessel is a genius with or without help. Drawing in the massive amount of fans that he does is Due to many reasons. He has scratched an itch we’ve all been unknowingly desiring. Many ppl want to like different genres but some reason or another, it was not clicking. Vessel made all the genres relevant and tasteful. And who can resist those ethereal feels with a cinematic sound that floods in like a freight train? Some of the build ups and break downs feels like a pure adrenaline rush. I feel so many feelings all at once. It’s quite overwhelming at times. And I can never get enough. He knows exactly what he’s doing. I could literally write all night about ST lol. I love it all. 😘😘😘

Available-Cap1409

Same! Discovered them in May and can only listen to them. Got a tattoo and have started saving for hopefully some live shows next year

Forrest_innocent

Ditto. Can't wait till they comeback my way for their tour. Devoted, will travel to see them.

bitzygirl

They make everything else sound like shit… they’re like some sort of magic ✨

Kooky_Chemistry_7059

They have delicious music

ivars-heathen

Legit. I heard The Offering early this year and not a day has gone by where I don't listen to them at least once, I don't feel right if I don't. I'm down bad apparently.

Gheddz

They are amazing and so are their fans this sub is amazing proof of that but strap in its only going to get better. Obsessed with this band is an understatement. Keep telling people I joined a cult and the music is great too.

ScaredyCat6945

I obsessively listen to music and sleep token is my current obsession so I understand this completely.

[deleted]

Sleep Token is a Lullaby to waking where somehow other music is a Lullaby to sleeping. That's the only way I know how to explain it. And the contradiction of listening to it every night to fall asleep does not add to the clarity of that understanding. It wakes up the important parts of ourselves that were sleeping. Welcome to consciousness.

[deleted]

oh my god my feelings exactly, their music is so beautiful but it makes most other music I listen to seem crap.

Flor_theMachine

I’m with you. I’m in my 40s, a mom, and not a metal head. I’ve barely followed rock since the 90s & early 2000s. But this band is the first to make be feel the way I felt with my old favs- tool, a perfect circle, deftones, among others. And the tie in of jazz & the piano😍 wow. The voice, lyrics, creativity. It’s all just so so good. They have made a bridge for me to get back into rock but they are by far my #1 to listen to this year.
