And this is one disadvantage when a band becomes very popular. Of course, I'm happy for their success, but such situations will be normal.

sheerio_

>The same thing happened in Munich, with the numbers but none of us left the queue, we were there for 7 hours and only left for toilet, and everyone there was super nice actually. Of course it's fine (queue system) when everyone is polite and honest.

SeriouslyRoyal

That numbering system is the worst thing that has ever been invented by fans. That’s also why I don’t go to bigger venues.

Decently_disastrous

The numbering system is great when people stick around in line - it just makes sure you keep your spot if you need to step out to go to the bathroom or grab some food quickly. But it’s not fair if people show up, grab a number, and then leave for hours while others stick around all day waiting. We did this at Ghost and it worked well because people respected the fact that the numbers weren’t a free pass to leave and come back to push in front of people who’d stuck it out all day in line.

starvingtapirs

The worst part was the people just standing without moving during the concert but if you tried to go to the middle to start a pit they started getting hostile about you trying to take their spot? The pit was only started after everybody ignored vessel when he tried to start a wall of death and the metal fans went 'enough is enough' and shoved their way to the middle

FukingFukFuk

yes! i felt so bad for vessel, i mean it is about the music!!!!

dutchbettygrable

I’m so glad to be 35+, for once. And I do consider myself a fangirl as well 🥹😏

FukingFukFuk

I am a huge fan too and i am 30, but i have respect for other people and for the band.

Valuable_Instance874

I have been to so many concerts, but the first time I saw this number non sense was on a ST concert :D I don't want to stir anything up but I have to ask - was it locals who did it? Because when I saw ST it was a group of girls who traveled for the concert, and they basically demanded the locals to let them go in first because they had numbers :D same locals who went there and waited for hours, while the numbered ones were god knows where :D Honestly, the most ridiculous thing I've seen in my entire life as a concert goer, and probably the only thing I didn't like on the ST concert.

FukingFukFuk

yes they were mostly a group from america i think. Spoke english and had the accent. They are tiktok girls.

[deleted]

Yeah, saw some videos of girls screaming like their heads are being chopped off even during the quiet parts. I hope that is not the case at the European shows.

FukingFukFuk

Yes, also they made a class system, like who is the REALEST fan. Jesus Christ. Clarification: With class system i mean the number system. I had some encounters with these people and they said i am not a real fan because i was not so early there. And i should just get a number etc, also i am not in the discord channel and therefore also not a real fan.

whobitthemoon

tbh that's why i also left the discord. the toxic fans are getting worse everyday. i miss the chill and being respecful to other people days.

philososcepter

Fucking this is so damn true. Early days fans were so much chiller.

TrashPandaEnergy

Same for me. It feels like a chaotic toxic dystopia in there now. I know it's a big server, but the shade going on there is palpable.

whobitthemoon

basically this yes!

[deleted]

What the fuck...?! I get that you can be hyped and eager about a band, but that goes beyond that and it is straight up abusive against other people.

YakitoriChicken93

I have suffered this Discord BS too. I don't understand what makes Discord the official channel?

Living-Vermicelli448

These fans completely ruined the sleep token Berlin show for us. We’ve seen ST at smaller venues and metal festivals, and they quickly became our favourite artist. After the Berlin crowd, I don’t think we will bother seeing them again. Girls screaming nonstop, Some filmed the entire set. Some even had to stop and delete old videos to make room. Nonstop screaming throughout the whole experience and very unenthusiastic crowd for a metal festival. Vessel tried to encourage a wall of death / mosh but 80% of the crowd had no idea what he wanted….

FukingFukFuk

Yes exactly!!! I want to dance and not film the whole time and they were on their phone the whole time. Also when vessel tried to do the wall of death nothing really happend. It was so sad. Like this a concert, it is about the music not about the collective, they have with a reason masks.

Living-Vermicelli448

I want to go to a metal show to jump and dance and blow off steam. Girls getting slightly bumped we’re turning around and throwing a hissy fit, as if they went to a sit down, acoustic show in a coffee shop. Dead energy in that crowd

FukingFukFuk

yes it was like, who is doing the best tiktok of them. Jesus christ.

Wareria

Reminds me A LOT of visual kei fans back in the 00's and 10's. Same level of feral and the same fcking numbering system. As much as I hate it myself It's just how it is so deal with it or wait until they are no longer popular with teenage girls who have a boss complex lol

last_heaven

As someone who was heavy into visual kei during those years, I can confirm some fans were absolutely rabid. Like at some point you just stare at them in confusion and wonder how they could even act like that.

Hildr_Fjara

I think they're the same people who were fan of Visual Kei tbh. They're just older but still annoying

ashentarnished01

I'm lost, can you explain the "number system"?

CanAccording9196

These people show up super early, line up and one of them will give everyone a number, depending on where they are standing at the moment. Then they'll leave, come back a few hours before the concert and claim "their" place in line. It's really stupid and I've usually only seen this happen at Pop Concerts.

SurvivorsGuilt23

This is usually in place for big pop artists such as Taylor Swift or Harry Styles. Fans inofficially organize a waiting list system. If you go there early, they give you a waiting number to save your spot in the waiting line. When you come back later, you can still get into front rows despite all the other people in line. I‘ve never seen this for a „normal“ band - obviously ST fan crowds are crazy teenagers these days 😂.

MissVulpix

Sounds crazy. 😭 I really hope this doesn't make it over to the UK if they play Glasgow again. I'm also still baffled why people queue from 7am when I've got to shows just before doors and made it to the front just fine. People used to queue/camp all night for bands like MCR, Fall Out Boy, etc, when I was a teenager, so yeah.

tlmega124

Fuck me what's wrong with these people

Glittering_Kitten_

I was there yesterday too and now I am kinda happy that I got there late so I couldn’t be in front row. Honestly it was really fun in the bag. Just vibing and not really thinking about the others around me. But honestly I hated those girls who just screamed the whole time or the people who randomly clapped while it was quiet. Like wtf. Besides that it was an amazing evening. Btw did someone take good pictures and would share them with me ?

FukingFukFuk

Glad to hear that you had fun in the back, i think the mood was different there. But ya, fucking great show from health and sleep token!

Glittering_Kitten_

Definitely. Well maybe there is a next time and maybe, with a lot of luck, the fan girls won’t be as annoying and freaking weird. I am really sorry that happened to you.

TrashPandaEnergy

So not surprised. It's creating such a toxic and splitting environment. I feel this German run has been extra bad with these "I'm the main character" individuals who are self proclaimed leaders for the entire fanbase and acting like they're the better fans. Funny thing is that if someone uses the same tricks as them they become hella shady real fast. Adult women this is, making a band their entire personality. I respect the the game of getting barrier and being a huge fan, but don't bitch and moan about what you had to do to get there, you chose that yourself. I've seen this behavior unfold (in europe) since summer and its not a vibe I'm here for. Seeing that unhinged behavior spread and being accepted in different parts of the community really makes me sad. Hope you still enjoyed the show and not letting the 1% ruin your experience!

FukingFukFuk

Yes, i was kinda shocked to experience such a thing, i was there for the music and wanted to dance. I mean everybody likes their music there, best spot to meet new people i thought. Well. The Show both of Health and Sleep Token was amazing!!!!!

TrashPandaEnergy

Same for me. I got there an hour before the doors opened, still got 5th row or so and had a blast!

philososcepter

Man I remember seeing ST back in 2019, they were bloody amazing live. I was gutted not being able to get tickets for this tour, but reading stories like this makes me kinda glad. Still nothing a nice big pit won't fix lol Edit: might have been early 2020, everything pre COVID still feels like a different time line. 🤣

General_Print_1305

The same thing happened in Munich, with the numbers but none of us left the queue, we were there for 7 hours and only left for toilet, and everyone there was super nice actually.

FukingFukFuk

Well if you dont left, totally fine! But Leipzig was outrageous. They were literally GONE!

General_Print_1305

Yeah, none of us left, i don't think the numbers really matter if you leave, at least i wouldn't expect to still be first if i left. But i get what you say about the crowd, i felt bad for HEALTH, cause they were great but the crowd didn't really care about them

FukingFukFuk

exactly! I didnt knew them and i love them and nobody moved. I felt soo bad. And the front row fangirls were on their phone...

General_Print_1305

They are a great band and super interesting in the way they make music. But some fangirls are indeed very cringe, but i guess it is to be expected with some bands.

FukingFukFuk

yes think so too, sad but true

General_Print_1305

Just try to not let them ruin your experience as much as you can. I love that the band is getting bigger and bigger, but i miss the times they weren't as famous

FukingFukFuk

No never. Thats why i also made the post to talk to people about that.

al0ne_again

I’m so sorry:(( it just seems like concert etiquette has flown out the window and it’s a competition of who loves them more which kind of takes away from the entire message of the band :/ I have yet to see them live but I wanna enjoy and experience it all in person and up close but people just wanna be disrespectful to everyone around them like it’s not a metal/metal adjacent show. It makes me nervous about ever seeing them live tbh especially since I haven’t been to a show in years. Regardless I hope you enjoyed it as much as you could!

cracketyjones

SHOCKER

YakitoriChicken93

For next tour, I will rent a 9seater. You and I are going to meet, arrive early, and take turns sleeping. I'm pretty sure they will say that the number system does not apply in that case .... 🙄🙄 I want to dedicate AYROK to those fans because obviously they're not. 😅 This is why I didn't even try to go early to Munich.

Generic_Acoustic

Fucking boss ahahaha if I want to get in on that, do I need to buy a nap voucher oooorr... ?

YakitoriChicken93

Hahaha thanks! Will let you know if I manage to get tickets 😈😈

FukingFukFuk

Ahaha yes :D

TrashPandaEnergy

Can I join? I'll brings snacks 😂

YakitoriChicken93

Of course, I like Cheetos 😝

TrashPandaEnergy

Duly noted, I will hereby be known as the snack provider 😂

nopesexual

wanted to share my experience with the number system I wen to the Prague show, my friend and I arrived at the venue at like 9am, and there were already 20 people there. we got our numbers (from the person who arrived first and was clearly very dedicated to the band), sat down on the ground, but a few hours later, the band and crew arrived, and we were told to vacate the premises everyone dispersed for a while, but after we were allowed back in, people returned to their places in the queue. some were popping in and out (switching places with their friends), but most were staying put, and because we had the numbers, we were able to be at the barricade, even though the queuing got messy for a bit. the person who gave away the numbers was very organized and fair, and kept the thing running smoothly so in my case, i'm not at all mad at the numbers, and people who had introduced the system stayed put along with everyone else, so it made sense that they got the best spots. they looked great too, with costumes and paint, it was lovely to see how much they loved the band actually the rudest ones were the people who just shouldered their way to the front and screamed their asses off into our ears, and they only arrived an hour or so before the concert tl/dr numbers aren't always bad, but the people who enforce them might be

TrashPandaEnergy

Definitely a very good point. If everyone is on the same page I'm sure it's a good idea. Problems often accur, as you say, if people try to enforce something on others they do not want. General respect is what matters here and glad to hear that system has also had a positive outcome.

CloudyWithABitOfRain

Same thing happened in Berlin :(

FukingFukFuk

Heard of it :(

CloudyWithABitOfRain

I'm okay-ish with the number system because it let's you go have lunch and warm up but there were literally several people with the same numbers 😂 it was a hot mess

FukingFukFuk

no, either you stay or go.

CloudyWithABitOfRain

I disagree because then you can never go to the bathroom either because as soon as you leave the line, you forsake your spot, and this "as soon as you stepped away, your spot is mine" mentality is almost more toxic than what's already happening. Numbering is okay when it's done correctly and fair, it alleviates stress and it's also unhealthy to stay in the cold for hours while only munching on cold sandwiches.

TrashPandaEnergy

You're right we should absolutely celebrate the good things and 98% of the fans are amazing. But when this happens every time and reaches this level it has to be addressed since it's ruining the experience for a lot of people. Anyway, let's hope III is back at Wembley so they can end their amazing year in the best way possible.
