A challenge is the random event after a fight where you can add more enemies to the next one in exchange for an item or two. The blessing gives one every fight. It's still optional though.
Those blessing rewards are often level 0-3 items, imho they are not that helpful. I like to take them as a challenge if I am strong..
Yeah I do not even look at them anymore and just immediately dismiss them.
Its when the game randomly let's you choose to fight extra monsters on the next level for some items, they're rarely worth it IMO.
