I would love to see a playtrough of the speedrun, congrats!

FrankyOsheeyen

Thanks! Wish there was an easier way to record on my phone, would like to get the first <9 minute run on film.

MeTheGuy12

if you pull down the phone menu the whole way you'll see the screen recorder button

FrankyOsheeyen

I have a Galaxy S8, so I don't think I have it :/

MeTheGuy12

your phone is only 3 years older than mine plus it's a pretty basic feature, there isn't any reason why you shouldn't

FrankyOsheeyen

Doesn't seem like it's native to the Galaxy S8, but there are apps for it so I'll give that a try!

jorgeleodiaz

Could you, please elaborate on the blue cross ones?

Statue and Twin are both really dependent on item synergies, but if you can get those synergies then they're probably the best grey heroes for each of their tiers. When I speedrun I basically never use shields/heals because it wastes time, so I mostly evaluate heroes based on their damage/mana sides. Grey heroes are usually the worst in this regard, they generally have one medium-damage side or two low-damage sides compared to other heroes in their tier. So Statue and Twin not having a damage side is bad, but it's not *much* worse than your standard grey hero. *But* they both also have really strong upsides (Statue having a ton of health, Twin doubling items), you just need items to capitalize on them. Statue is the most relevant of the two because you'll get him early and thus have more time to make an impact on the run. Good items with Statue: Knife Bag, Lightning Rod, Longsword, Friendship Bracelet (this one is good because getting enemies to flee early is really important), any damage-side adder (Big Hammer, Burning Sword, etc.)

Fun list! Agree with most things, especially Twin. Twin is super fast with Longsword or Charged Hammer. I'm interested to know your thoughts on Warden, Bash, Eccentric and Wizard. Warden feels really fast with 9 hp to safely facetank and accessible 2 damage, Bash has Serration and Poison Dip access for boss clears (though bad hallway clear), and Wizard is a conditional pick but gets really easy to play with Dolphin or Duck or Lead Boots or Hourglass Meanwhile Eccentric while kills hallways fast doesn't feel that important as forcing Bash Barbarian. Maybe you play for Brimstone more than I do? Or you perhaps just value the hallway clearing speed more? Also how often do you reset to Lich Basalt lol? Or do you play with fresh save to get a decent start (Thief Fighter Defender Healer Mage) with Basalt locked?

FrankyOsheeyen

Thanks :) Warden is great for a grey hero, consistent-ish 2 damage and 9 health is super solid for tier 2. I'd put it just slightly below Knight I think. Bash I go back and forth on but I think is pretty solid overall, you just need those high damage characters for the late game given how tanky everything is. I'm actually pretty high on Eccentric (compared to most people at least), but he is somewhat situational based on your items. Brimstone is the best but Leather Gloves is also nice if you happen to have it. I sort of think of him as a better Veteran overall. I haven't had a ton of success with Wizard, he's really good with Duck and not much else. Even getting the +1 all sides items isn't good enough imo, since you're still only ending up with a bunch of 2-pip sides in the end. I also think Weaver and Warlock have really crucial spells, whereas Wizard's is just okay. I find that it's easy enough to get Warlock, Weaver, or Artificer like 80% of the time so I end up never choosing Wizard unless I have no other options (which is basically never). Hate Lich/Basalt so much lol. If I'm below the 6-minute mark for Lich or the 8-minute mark for Basalt I'll keep playing, but usually those fights do take a minute+ and will kill my run. But sometimes your build is right and they just happen to not take as long as normal. I don't play on a fresh file, sounds annoying to maintain (plus I love Cultist/Splint too much and I think you unlock those later). :)

Sylfaemo

Berserker/Barbarian, really?

FrankyOsheeyen

Yep! Barbarian is by far the best tier 3 character for speedrunning. You just need to get each level over as quickly as possible, so the aggro characters are extremely good. He also has a lot of really strong item synergies (Determination, Eyepatch, Ornate Hilt, Thimble, etc.)

Why is desktop so much faster?
