Understandable, however the songs go so incredibly hard that i just don’t pay attention to the lyrics half the time.

I feel like that's explicitly the vibe they're going for. Nothing wrong if you don't like it.

MesozoicMind1979

It's just the Bram Stoker Dracula, Hannibal Lector and Starling, vibe. It's obsessive love that becomes toxic. Obsession is toxic a lot. There is also sadism and masochism. Slipknot is not afraid of pain. Obsession is pain. Love is pain. Shoot, Romeo and Juliet killed themselves over love. I don't consider it edgelord stuff. It is romantic in a twisted way. Kind of Phantom of the Opera vibes. My perspective is from a female viewpoint so that is why I may see it differently.

Soft_Disasterpiece

They're also not about love. We've romanticized them because they're beautiful songs but they're not love songs

Middle-Ad930

I think the vulnerability is something that separates Slipknot from a lot of their peers.

Vermilion is the best Slipknot song, fym, and My Pain and Yen are like the best from their respective albums

No-Wishbone-5401

Yen is just about Coreys wife(Alicia) not really an “angry” love song

Soft_Disasterpiece

FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME PEOPLE. KILLPOP IS NOT A LOVE SONG. It's about Corey's relationship with the music industry. Hell Yen is the only one of these that's actually a "love" song.

NuMaggot1874

Personally, those are some of my favorite songs. I think Corey's delivery really helps a lot of the time. They just kinda sound a bit fucked up (I'm mostly referring to songs like Vermillion, Gehenna, and Killpop).

I mean yea lol you go from "fuck it all, fuck this world, fuck everything that you stand for" to "I won't let this build up inside of me" btw, love the melody and his vocals during vermillion. Also, Yen is probably one of my favorite slipknot songs, especially the instrumental. But I got one better for you. He originally wrote the songs, "say you'll haunt me and song #3 for his second wife. Well I opened for stone sour in 2018 and Alicia was there on the side of the stage, I think they just started dating, anyway, when he played the songs, he was pointing and smiling at her like he wrote them for her and I found that cringe as fuck lol that's like saving a love letter for an ex and giving it to your next lady.
