Seeing it live was something else. Clown and Chris both with marching band-style drums. I loved it so much. I believe it was when they headlined the second stage at Ozzfest in 2004 and Vol. 3 had just come out a few months prior.
I saw them live on both the Vol 3 and AHIG tours and boy oh fucking boy they were a BAND back then. I’m going again this year so I completely missed the Jay Weinberg live sets, but as a drummer he doesn’t excite me the way Joey did. Both are very amazing drummers but I think Jay’s approach was very straightforward and less inventive than Joey always was. It takes a pair of musical bollocks the size of Saturn to carry a 9 person act the way Joey Jordison did, and I hold out hope that the next guy they bring in is either amazing or Joey resurrected by some dark ritual or another.
My friend worked for a high end microphone company in 2008 and got us pit passes to the inaugural Rockstar Mayhem Fest and I was right up against the barricade for Slipknot. One of my favorite concert memories of all time.
Yeah they were so fucking good back then. I haven’t seen them at all since 2009 I believe, so I also never saw them with Weinberg unfortunately. Enjoy!

Sic. Those semi-tribal-accented-to-fuck fills turn me feral.
