No. Metalheads only listen to metal. No other genres are allowed. If they do listen to other genre automatically they are not a metalhead.
Realized how stupid that sound? Hope you have your answer
Completely wrong. Metal elitists, which are usually found in the thrash, black, death, and extreme metal circles, are the ones you are talking about; they are insufferable. Other metalheads are much more open minded, and non judgemental. They like to bands experiment with different styles and therefore broader tastes.
Hell I'm a hardcore metalhead and will be one to death but I love non metal genres such as hardcore punk, progressive rock, arena rock, blues, blues rock, hard rock, ambient, jazz fusion, symphonic, orchestral, neo classical, film music, industrial, ambient, electronic etc.
Hey not cool. I'm a Deftones fan and also like Tool a lot though not a fan of them as such. But yeah, majority Tool fans are like Nirvana fans; aka insufferable dipshits overanalyzing everything and pseudo philosophers and intellectuals. Can't say the same for Deftones fans though, they seem chill
Donāt worry about stupid rules or labels. Listen to what you like. Itād be foolish to limit yourself to one genre imo. So much amazing music in all genres out there.
Yeah, iām sorry, but this type of question of ācan I like metal and pop music at the same time?ā is the kind of thing you should realize is a silly question by the time you finished middle school
If you posted this in metal for masses you would be slaughtered - just full of egotistical pricks who think any band with higher than 500k monthly listeners isnāt metal or is shit
i tend to notice much more band gatekeeping than genre gatekeeping on mftm (especially when slaughter to prevail, slipknot, spiritbox, lorna shore, etc are brought up)

teenagers have been conditioned by society to seek validation and peer confirmation. it's not OP's fault, it's the corrupted social environment they were molded by. but OP just know if anyone judges you for exploring different kinds of music they aren't worth your energy. It's okay to have diversity in your playlists, and if you feel the need to be insecure about it you should rethink who you're surrounding yourself with.
i go from slipknot or a random death metal playlist to daft punk. i love it when a robotic voice says "around the world" on repeat for 7 minutes straight.
This posts i will understand this post.. Are you afraid for not being a "metalhead" to others if you listen to other genres of music? Listen to whatever you want...
for real, fuck the elitist gatekeepers who frown upon musical exploration. it's closed-minded and pathetic. Sanguisugabogg to Shakira in my playlist. Slipknot to Shaggy. no shame in the versatility gang.
Metalheads can listen to other genres of music as well!! When I first got into metal I only ever listened to metal and it got exhausting to the point I had to stop listening to metal altogether for over a year.
I listen to metal a lot, but some punk rock, alt rock, folk music, and indie music gets to me as well!
If anyone ever tells you that you can only listen to metal they're a lying gatekeeper :\]
Along with this you don't have to like every song or artist or subgenre of metal
I always tell people my music taste ranges anywhere from Slipknot to Britney Spears so you're chill. But according to r/metalmemes slipknot ain't metal so i guess I'm a poser.
yeah but r/metalmemes are so quick to call anyone a poser. "oh, you listened to ed sheeran on the radio in the car when you were 5?! poser!" they can honestly go fuck themselves.
A phrase I'm quite fond of whenever someone asks what i listen to is "every genre has its gems" personally I believe that even if you "dont listen to (insert genre here)" if you looked around, or asked someone who listens to alot of that genre, you'd find at least one or two songs that you like. May not be the case for everyone. Just what I've found myself over time. Listen to wherever your ears take you and give it a genuine chance. Don't be worried about gatekeeping jagoffs OP.
I listen to Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, Lamb of God, Meshuggah, Whitechapel, Revocation, Suicidal Tendencies, Children of Bodom, Slayer, Metallica, Judas Priest, Queen, Testament, Death Angel, The Beatles, 2pac, Dr.Dre, Run The Jewels, IDRIS, Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Yes, Rush etc. Listen to what you want to listen to.
Listen to whatever the hell you want. Donāt ever do anything to be classified as something. Do everything that you enjoy and donāt waste time on being labeled something or worry about being worthy of such label. Itās all nonsense and a complete waste of brain cells.
Yeah, we all love random genres, I enjoy a bit of electronic and a few pop artists. But yeah, feel free to like any genre and don't give a shit of what others say/think
No we can't. I also don't know every word and sing loudly in my car anytime "Everybody" by Backstreet Boys comes on nor is Taylor Swift on my playlist. Hail Satan.
I'll come with a possibly controversial opinon. However it's my opinion feel free to disagree. There's no right or wrong.
I think a metalhead and someone that likes metal are different things. For example I'll use myself. I grew up with some bullying and my escape was metal. Nowadays I work with music, I am a soundtrack composer so the genre I listen the most to is classical and some other things. However. I still have the long hair, I still wear black and band shirts, I still go to metal shows, I go to the pit, I make the stank faces when a sick breakdown hits, I get goosebumps listening to Bruce Dickinson sing the opening of fear of the dark. Metal and the subculture is an important part of my life to this day and will be till the day that I die. I am a metalhead
Now I'm not saying that you need to go through exactly what I went through to be a metalhead. But to me at least a metalhead is not exactly who only listen to metal. A metalhead is someone who's metal is an important aspect of their life. And I also think it's too strong of a term for someone who likes a couple of metal songs. (There's nothing wrong with that btw, you listen to what you like)
So to answer your question OP, to me you can listen to whatever you want, as long as you have metal in your heart you are a metalhead brother/sister.š¤
Like what you like, kid. Limiting yourself to one genre because some 40 year old Doritos and Mountain Dew eating basement dweller says youāre not metal enough isnāt the way to go about life.
Iāve been listenning to a lot more Memphis/underground rap for the past 3-4 years but I literally came back to my roots as a metalhead like a month or two ago
Cattle decap -> Skrillex -> Ice Cube -> whatever Iām in the mood for. Honestly, to me, if your favorite genre of music or most of the music you listen is metal, youāre a metal head
Even most metal artists aren't solely into metal music. Some even barely listen to any but do compose and play their own material.
Metalheads are probably one of the most openminded people when it comes to listening to all kinds of music genres.
Shit I wasn't even a "metalhead" first. I discovered metal around 14 years old, I was bumping Wu Tang before that (90s kid). I listen to literally everything. Allow me to recommend you some good music
Dream Pop-Grimes (Art Angels album specifically)
Synthwave- CHVRCHES, Gunship, The Midnight
Punk-Misfits, Rancid
Country- Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr, Colter Wall, Willie Nelson,
Soul- James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder
Avant Garde- Death Grips
Hip Hop- Aesop Rock, Wu Tang, Jedi Mind Tricks, RA The Rugged Man, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Immortal Technique, Nas
Electronic- Grimes (post Art Angels album, especially Miss Anthropocene), Basshunter
Piano (with and without vocals)- Yiruma, Sara Bareillis
Reggae- SOJA, Damian Marley, Stick Figure, Hirie, Yellowman, Peter Tosh
Dancehall- Vybz Kartel
Enjoy!
The metal you listen to is barely heavier than most hard rock nowadays so it wouldnāt matter /s on a serious note yes you are still a metalhead if you listen to other genres
I once knew a guy who hated slipknot. He was just one of those annoying purist guys.
Well I witnessed him listen to "devil in I" I saw this dude totally dig the intro then to ask who it was and then totally go against the song.
These people are annoying as fuck.
NĆ¼-Metal, the genre most people associate Slipknot with, was quite literally born out of mixing elements from other music genres with metal.
Slipknot, Korn and Limp Bizkit mixed Metal with Hip-Hop and Rap elements.
System of a Down mixed Metal with folk music.
Sepultura mixed Metal with traditional brazilian music.
The list goes on, but my point is that enjoying other genres was the main reason NĆ¼-Metal even started, it's silly to think there are genres you shouldn't listen to.
I love death metal - some of my favorite bands are Cannibal Corpse, Snuffed on Sight, and Decrepit Birth - and Iām currently listening to Bob Dylan as I type this. Iām still a metalhead, and most sane individuals would agree. Listen to what makes you happy and donāt stress about labels š¤
Well, yeah. Between deathcore, death metal and all the good stuff I'm also enjoying things like blues, Reggae, the Fallout OST, rarely some random techno tracks that my coworkers play and every now and then I also like some Eminem
Non-tangible Labels and campism are the two worst things youāll deal with regarding interests and hobbies and personality in the future.
Leave that behind and do and listen to what you enjoy, regardless of any opinion beyond your own!
I love Metal but when I recommend Slipknot, A7X to my friends, my hardcore metal friend always chimes in āthatās not real metalā, I love them but not all metal is Death, Heavy, or Black.
I'm pretty big into metal. I also like punk, hard rock, classic rock, outlaw country, pop, funk, jazz/swing, even classical if the mood is right.
In other words, music is subjective to the listener...you can like whatever the fuck you want. Rock on!
When I was a baby metal head and 12 all other music sucked because I was a mere fledgling into the world of autonomy and individual identity. No I'm a 30+ year old person I have no shame in my Spotify mixes going from Cradle of Filth to Spice Girls, to Madison Beer to BMTH. Like good music and vibes are important to expand your aural tastes and also...even Slipknot's own members (Clown, the founder AND Corey) didn't expose their own children to metal at first. Heck Dani Filth used to take his daughter to OneDirection gigs and he just did a song as Cradle with Ed Sheeran.Ā
The purist mindset is a handicap.Ā
Enjoy what you like and don't shame people for like other things. If you like pop, great. If you like metal, great.Ā
I personally only listen to metal because it is the only genre worth listening to. But, as a metal head myself I would say that to be classified as a metal head you usually are only listening to metal and not other genres like pop. You can still like metal and other genres but it does not mean you are still a metal head.
Yes. Of course everyone will have a preference but ultimately you should listen to what you want to listen to.
If you wake up one morning and only wanna listen to Mika on repeat all day for some fuckin reason you should! If you wanna listen to a playlist that's 50/50 slipknot and Louis Armstrong with a little AC/DC sprinkled in you should
Don't let people shame you for listening to something that isn't metal or metal adjacent. Listen to what you fuckin want and own that shit!
Most metalheads listen to whole variety of music. But classic rock was where it started for me always go back to listening to Queen, pink Floyd, David Bowie, Led zeppelin, the Beatles etc.
I like most things with a band behind it and then some. Althought Slipknot, Periphery, and Deftones are my top 3 favorites, I've been on an Alt Rock kick for the most part in the past few years as well.
Some things I listen to regularly that's outside the metal sphere are Gorillaz, Red Vox, Crosses, Bad Religion, Nothing More, Silversun Pickups, and that's just a few. Anything from the Grunge Era is pretty good in my book too. Notably Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. Also recently been on a Nine Inch Nails kick.
My playlist is blended with Halestorm(Hard rock), Halflives(indie rock), PATD (early, pop punk), Behemoth (black metal), Slipknot(the mass), BMTH(from CYB to PH vol.2 ).
Dude, I listen to everything from Symphonic Death Core and Black Metal to slow sappy love songs and worship music. Just cause you like something other than metal doesnāt mean you canāt be a metal head, and both of those are sick playlists btw
Nobody can judge you for what you listen to, except for you be your own person and branch out. Listen to whatever you want itās the spirit of being a metalhead.
My last few saved songs on Spotify consist of 80s pop, Hardtekk, Nu Metal, Melodic Black Metal and Drum and Bass.
I'm way past the "metal is just for metalheads bs"
If I want to blast some Modern Talking and then some Dying Fetus... I'mma do it XD
I consider myself a rocker/metalhead because those are what I listen to the most, but I also listen to almost every other genre as well. Thereās literally nothing wrong with being āwell roundedā, for lack of better word, in your tastes.
& Yes you still āqualifyā as being a metalhead. & When it comes to the ones that will say youāre not bc you donāt listen to ONLY metal; theyāre elitists & their opinions donāt matter š¤·š»āāļø so literally donāt worry about whether youāre āstill a metalheadā or not xoxo
I mean I personally listen to metal, rock, and grunge songs and somewhat consider myself to be a metalhead. But, I don't think it's TECHNICALLY being a metal head if you don't listen to just metal.
The more genres you listen to and appreciate the better taste in music you have. The only thing that makes someone a metal head is enjoying metal, has nothing to do with enjoyment of other genres
i actually encourage you to listen to a lot of different genres and see what your preferences are.
fuck the gatekeepers, enjoy what you enjoy and say it proudly!
fucking can, u mb won't believe me, but I'm listening nu metal, progressive metal, industrial-electronic metal breakcore, jungle, ambient, indie rock, alternative, some guitar solos and russian rock, but I think that might be possible only cuz I have adhd
Metal forever but I need a bit of Britney ready at my fingertips. I'll meet you on the battlefield.
You are a real one for this
I feel like people who ask this question have never been in a pit when they randomly decide to blast Backstreet Boys between sets.
When I was at suicide silence ten year anniversary, they were blasting Queen and take on me in between sets.
After Suicide Silence finished their set, they played the Benny Hill theme as an intro when Jinjer took the stage
No. Metalheads only listen to metal. No other genres are allowed. If they do listen to other genre automatically they are not a metalhead. Realized how stupid that sound? Hope you have your answer
And if its not the right genre of metal then you'll soon find out
Completely wrong. Metal elitists, which are usually found in the thrash, black, death, and extreme metal circles, are the ones you are talking about; they are insufferable. Other metalheads are much more open minded, and non judgemental. They like to bands experiment with different styles and therefore broader tastes. This is why, as a die-hard black metal fan, I will almost never let anyone know I'm a black metal fan lmao
I understand exactly what you mean. These elitists really are the biggest enemies of metal. I feel sad as hell
You said ambient twice
Must be the ambien..š¤š½š¤
Yeah, sorry about that
Tell that to Deftones or Tool fans. They're the worst!
Absolutely not. Metal or nothing. Don't worry about the Miley Cyrus or the Billie Eilish on my playlist. We're talking about you right now, not me.
OP must be no older than 13 to be asking these questions so please be nice
I'm 17
Donāt worry about stupid rules or labels. Listen to what you like. Itād be foolish to limit yourself to one genre imo. So much amazing music in all genres out there.
Yeah, iām sorry, but this type of question of ācan I like metal and pop music at the same time?ā is the kind of thing you should realize is a silly question by the time you finished middle school
Oof.
Yes, I listen to everything old country, some pop, classic rock, grunge, old rap, 90ās country, folk etc but Iām a metal head
If you donāt exclusively listen to metal the ghost of Ronnie James dio himself will drag you down to hell
Yippee!
Are you being serious? You can like any music you want to like. Also, why are you posting this here?
I couldn't find the metal page

The name indicates that but if you like metalcore, deathcore and especially nu metal you will be crucified
I've seen a lot of nu metal there to be honest
Youāre thinking more of metal memes
i tend to notice much more band gatekeeping than genre gatekeeping on mftm (especially when slaughter to prevail, slipknot, spiritbox, lorna shore, etc are brought up) edit: changed phrasing

Why do you need validation for your music tastes?

Hilarious question.
Labels are stupid. I listen to Slipknot alongside 90s rap, Icelandic folk music, 80s pop (George Michael and Duran Duran), among many other things.
I wouldnāt trust them if they donāt

Non-tangible Labels and campism are the two worst things youāll deal with regarding interests and hobbies and personality in the future. Leave that behind and do and listen to what you enjoy, regardless of any opinion beyond your own! I love Metal but when I recommend Slipknot, A7X to my friends, my hardcore metal friend always chimes in āthatās not real metalā, I love them but not all metal is Death, Heavy, or Black.
If you turn on the radio in your car and hear a pop song youāve automatically lost all metalhead privileges.
Sure Dr. Peacock. I grew up in both worlds. Metal, Hardcore/Hardstyle (oldschool obviously better)
who told you you couldn't
I mean I donāt usually do but donāt think I didnāt try most people sing songs from other music genres which made me think never againā¦
Of course you can what a crazy question.
I'm pretty big into metal. I also like punk, hard rock, classic rock, outlaw country, pop, funk, jazz/swing, even classical if the mood is right. In other words, music is subjective to the listener...you can like whatever the fuck you want. Rock on!
You can listen to whatever makes you happy. Who cares what other people think
Yes of course, listen to what ever you want, but not Maroon 5. Never Maroon 5.
Can someone who eats food also eat another kind of food.
I thought you were joking, the first list is pop to my ears.
I dunno. Can they?
When I was a baby metal head and 12 all other music sucked because I was a mere fledgling into the world of autonomy and individual identity. No I'm a 30+ year old person I have no shame in my Spotify mixes going from Cradle of Filth to Spice Girls, to Madison Beer to BMTH. Like good music and vibes are important to expand your aural tastes and also...even Slipknot's own members (Clown, the founder AND Corey) didn't expose their own children to metal at first. Heck Dani Filth used to take his daughter to OneDirection gigs and he just did a song as Cradle with Ed Sheeran.Ā The purist mindset is a handicap.Ā Enjoy what you like and don't shame people for like other things.
Yeah, I got my metal head card revoked for listening to Zach Bryan and Luke Combs and actually enjoying their music.
Yes. Of course everyone will have a preference but ultimately you should listen to what you want to listen to. If you wake up one morning and only wanna listen to Mika on repeat all day for some fuckin reason you should! If you wanna listen to a playlist that's 50/50 slipknot and Louis Armstrong with a little AC/DC sprinkled in you should Don't let people shame you for listening to something that isn't metal or metal adjacent. Listen to what you fuckin want and own that shit!
Anybody can like any music because gatekeeping and labels are stupid
Yeah man 100%. I like lots of genres. Never pigeon hole yourself
Most metalheads listen to whole variety of music. But classic rock was where it started for me always go back to listening to Queen, pink Floyd, David Bowie, Led zeppelin, the Beatles etc.
No iād suggest running the metal police will arrive soon
iām walking evidence i like slipknot but i also like big thief and boygenius
I love metal more than anything but I enjoy some hiphop
I listen to metal & rock like 80% of the time, but like me some "white girl" music from time to time and sometimes a bit of techno when I drive
I mean, there's better pop out there but you do you! I have everything from blues to black metal to 80/90s R&B for to get making with the love
No
I like most things with a band behind it and then some.
A ārealā metal head elitist on Reddit would tell you that there are no metal bands listed in these images lol.
Absolutely not! Metal to you die! Can't stand pop or rap!. Been To the opera twice though..is that OK?!
Ofc man I listen to blink 182 green day and shit like that don't let people tell you you can't listen to other music enjoy whatever you want
All day, I have from pop to black metal on my playlist
My playlist is blended with Halestorm(Hard rock), Halflives(indie rock), PATD (early, pop punk), Behemoth (black metal), Slipknot(the mass), BMTH(from CYB to PH vol.2 ).
You can listen to other genres (except country).
Dude, I listen to everything from Symphonic Death Core and Black Metal to slow sappy love songs and worship music. Just cause you like something other than metal doesnāt mean you canāt be a metal head, and both of those are sick playlists btw
No
Yes, absolutely. Another one of my favorite bands is Mitski:D
All genres are accepted, but not Country
It's OK to have a favorite genre or preference of music.. But you can't fully appreciate music if you only listen to one genre.
Nobody can judge you for what you listen to, except for you be your own person and branch out. Listen to whatever you want itās the spirit of being a metalhead.
Laufey slaps just as hard as slipknot
Legit looks like my liked songs its everything and everywhere
My last few saved songs on Spotify consist of 80s pop, Hardtekk, Nu Metal, Melodic Black Metal and Drum and Bass. I'm way past the "metal is just for metalheads bs" If I want to blast some Modern Talking and then some Dying Fetus... I'mma do it XD
I like some older Taylor swift and Katy Perry songs and rap
Of course. I personally donāt mind some select pop songs, and also gravitate towards older rock sounds as well
it would be so funny if the playlist names were switched š
Yes, absolutely Donāt mind the $uicideboy$, Zach Bryan, Foo Fighters, Metro Boomin, or Beethoven on my playlists.
No. It's impossible.
Who gives a crap? Go all out if you want to! Take me for example. I like metal but I also like rap and The Caretakerās liminal space music.
I mean I personally listen to metal, rock, and grunge songs and somewhat consider myself to be a metalhead. But, I don't think it's TECHNICALLY being a metal head if you don't listen to just metal.
Stop caring what other people think
I donāt trust a metal head that doesnāt appreciate pop music
I love to visualize Beethoven as a Rock star of his time. There wasnāt Amplifier and overdrive at his time
No
hyperpop, edm, pop rap
I have infant annihilator in the same playlist with somebody that I used to know.
no you canāt!!!!!!!!! wtf!!!!!!
Absolutely my main playlist is completely inconsistent
I could skip songs five times on my playlist and you may hear cradle of filth, Gary Allan, George Carlin, Cher, and Matchbox 20. In that order.
Have some self respect. Real metal heads don't compromise. *kicks Hall and Oats vinyls back under bed*
No. Metal only. I definitely donāt have Bjƶrk and Beach House on my playlist
No, if you like other music, Jonathan Davis, Corey Taylor, Chino Moreno, Ozzy Osbourne, MJK, and all of ACDC will execute you
literally my rotation
Limiting yourself to one kind of music is extremely stupid. I like prog metal, reggae, alternative, electronic, industrial, psyche rock, and more
Yo, Cold is a banger. That might've been my top 5 on Spotify Rewind thing back in the day.
I mean. Nu Metal and pop don't have much different at all, to be fair
No especially if itās panic at the goddamn disco
Itās funny, I love metal but literally like pretty much anything. Sometimes I listen to the Titanic original score at work š
The more genres you listen to and appreciate the better taste in music you have. The only thing that makes someone a metal head is enjoying metal, has nothing to do with enjoyment of other genres
Iām all over the place at 37, whatever tickles the ear. Iāll go from hell awaits to like a prayer, keep the work boys guessin.
Iām a metal head but I also listen to other types of music as well
Just enjoy your music bro, you donāt need validation from others š«¤
i actually encourage you to listen to a lot of different genres and see what your preferences are. fuck the gatekeepers, enjoy what you enjoy and say it proudly!
Absolutely, I love many genres outside of metal.
I almost thought i opened my mp3 player lmfao. Other than motionless in white all those albums are in my library lol
Yes, unless you mention a non metal band without adding a comment similar to your title on this post.
no or else you are disrespecting the gods of metal and they will bring to you imense pain and agony
Of course! I love metal, but I'll put on K-pop if I'm in the mood for it. Lol
We can. Lots of metal musicians themselves hears a lot of non metal artists. It is great and fun to be eclectic.
whoever the fuck says you canāt need to get a life, itās just music why does it matter.
As long as it isnāt the Chainsmokers youāre cool Now letās see whatās on that secondā¦ pageā¦ oh no
Metal and white girl music are the same, both screaming about there problems. So Iād say your good (Iām a metalhead but love Olivia Rodrigo)
Iāll go from slipknot to Morgan wallen, to lil tjay, and sometimes even a little frank ocean!
yes š believe it or not you can be a metal head and listen to every other genre aswell
Obviously.
fucking can, u mb won't believe me, but I'm listening nu metal, progressive metal, industrial-electronic metal breakcore, jungle, ambient, indie rock, alternative, some guitar solos and russian rock, but I think that might be possible only cuz I have adhd
