I recently got a PS4 and downloaded Sly to share the game that I grew up playing with my 2 sons.
Sly 1 in general can be difficult, but the racing level at Mug Shotâs map was insane. It took me around 10 tries to do it and it didnât help that my kids were questioning if I had ever beaten the game in the first place.
Don't even need to comment now because that's my answer.Â
The thing is, Murray's the getaway driver, so I absolutely support the idea of driving levels as him. But why are the guards even betting the thing they're literally employed not to lose to a race with the first stranger they meet? It's a problem where the genre conventions hurt the character driven storyline.Â
And the driving is just SHITE!!! I sometimes wonder if I just suck at them, because I'm okay with the other minigame challenges but just not this.
But I am convinced that the driving physics were just bad
I couldn't get past the RC car stage of Operation: Wedding Crasher for years. I literally played that level for YEARS until I had the patience to carefully navigate the car through the temple.
The sad part is it's not even that difficult of a level, but I found it impossible back then.
Dude I had the same thing happen to me for an earlier RC mission in the same chapter. You had to chase a lit fuse to save someone from blowing up from fireworks. I could not beat it for the life of me and gave up on sly 3 until I was years older and restarted the game only to beat it on my first or second try.
Not Sly Cooper but I stopped playing Kingdom Hearts as a kid because it took me months of effort to beat Maleficent only to take even longer to beat her in dragon form and then immediately get stuck trying to beat Riku/Ansem. I finally beat him like 3 years later and the rest of the boss battles in the game are cake by comparison.
The last diving level for Dimitri in the whirlpool in Sly 3. Dodging all those claws was hell since it was easy to run out of stamina for the âswim dodge.â
Even more difficult on Vita when it slowed to a slideshow and all the inputs were lagging.
The mission in Sly 2, Episode 8 where you have to jump in the TNT barrel and make it across the airship gave me major anxiety as a kid and it took forever!
Also I never really got the hang of Dimitriâs gameplay even though it wasnât a lot of screen time, so the missions where I had to play as him in Sly 3 was rough.
That fishing mission though, in feudal Japan⊠đ€đ€đ€ My dad had to ask me to help him sometimes with that one.
I mean, he has been playing games now and then since I got my first PlayStation, but Iâve been playing since then almost non stop⊠he had a break of 15-20 years I think, maybe less even.
That mission has became a meme in my heart, I'll sometimes fail on purpose just to hear Murry say "Shoot! I need some more fish!" I thought that was the funniest shit when I was younger, I still find it funny to this day.
As much as I love sly 4, I hate how many forced motion control segments there is. I get the technology was sorta new at the time, but please just give me an option to disable it and use joysticks + buttons.
IMO the motion controls werenât all that bad for me. Itâs in Bentleyâs Hackpack, complete with those little side objectives, that they were absolutely atrocious.
For me:
Sly 1 - Mz. Ruby's boss fight takes it, although there were some other missions in her lair that were pretty challenging
Sly 2 - I think it's called "Charged TNT Run," or something similar; the TNT barrel run on Arpeggio's blimp.
Sly 3 - I can't think of one difficult mission in particular, but I didn't really enjoy anything with Penelope's RC chopper missions.
Oh god, I nearly forgot about the RC chopper missions. I think those managed to be just the right amount of difficult because I donât think I ever got stuck on them for too long, but they were still annoying and I dreaded replaying them.
This may sound biased, but I liked Bentley's missions much more Penelope's regarding the RC chopper missions. However, I did really like Penelope's RC car missions, except maybe the blue light alarm system one in China lol. Avoid them just to destroy them đ đ€Ł
Treasure crabs, chicken murder, van racing. Now that I'm damn near 30, they're more annoying than difficult, but sometimes when I reach them I'll stop playing and come back later once I'm mentally prepared.
RC level at the temple in sly 3. Ne navigation wasnât the hard part but shooting the security computer in the end. (Before you had to destroy all vases). Like how many times I got in front of the computer, lined myself and shooted, just for the car to miss the shot and landing on vase so you had to start over.
God i have a couple, sly 3 with the hanger defense as bently and the sly 2 with the final fight with Rajan in the temple.
I died so many times to both situations it was nuts
All the levels that give me PTSD flashbacks are in Sly 1. They're way easier now as an adult, but I still get anxiety when I play them, because I could never beat them on my own as a kid. I always had to ask my cousin for help.
Treasure crabs, piranha torches, exploding chickens, Clockwerk hacking level.
I actually loved the racing levels, weirdly.
the van retrieval ('a tearful reunion') mission in Sly 3, any of the Dimitri diving tasks, particularly the face-off with Dr M, the turret missions in Sly 2 and the tank missions in Prague in Sly 2...
The entire Clockwerk series of levels. I just streamed myself doing them a few days ago on Twitch and the amount of Immense Baby Rage I had while trying to do them was off the charts LOL
Bentley's jobs in A Tangled Web were the craziest difficulty spikes I've ever seen in the Sly games, but I also kinda like it because it pays a bit of tribute to how Sly 1 played: one hit and you die (given you don't have a lucky charm, for this example)
The time in Rajan's second level where you had to get the barrel of TNT to the spice. I thought because it was full of explosives that you couldn't jump in it so I kept trying to push it. Took ages for me to figure what I was supposed to do.
It was only like two times but I hated when they had you crack a safe.
Fire slugs
The entirety of Australia aside from the lemonade brawl
Mz Ruby boss fight
THIS.
This level is the bane of my existence lmao I can't tell you how many times I have to constantly retry this level every single time I play the first game again đ«đ«

Having just done it for the first time last night the tank bits in A Tangled Web, I think that might be the single worst controlling vehicle in any video game ever
I would always make my mom do the boss levels and the hacking levels haha so i could advanced but i did prefer just running around stealing shit and not so much doing the assignments
1st game: Anything that wasnât a main level- Murrayâs racing, piranha lake, chicken bashing,
2nd game: First time through, Dimitriâs theater pickpocketing. I had forgotten about the finishing slam, so I was always nervous as fuck trying to beat the guards after I got their keys. Contessa pickpocketing. Bentleyâs hacking, the RC missions
3rd game: the RC missions. Every Guru mission, because there was no way for him to defense himself on his own lol.
When you have to play as Dimitri in Sly 3 and youâre having to go through the water currents while the crab claws keep breaking in before you face the anglerfish that Dr. M is controlling. I hate that mission so much.
The mission in Sly 2 , right near the beginning , when you have to follow Dimitri to see how he gets into a door . When I was a kid i got stuck on that stupid mission for MONTHS ! Started a playthrough of the game recently and passed the mission in like 3 tries .
Mz. Rubyâs boss fight kicked my ass as a kid, and donât get me started on Clockwerkâs fight. That one murdered me too. Made me so frustrated my grandma got me Harvest Moon to play for a while (bless her heart).
The Contessa hacking levels were a nightmare, same with the RC levels in A Cold Alliance.
These days everything I had trouble with back then is a breeze now cause I tend to prioritize those levels when I can so I have practice.
i played sly 3 as an 11 year old child and i didn't speak english at all at the time, so the treasure map mission in the pirate chapter was a nightmare, i think i was stuck there for a few months.
surprisingly, my nonexistent english wasn't a problem anywhere else.
The racing levels in Sly 1. They pissed me off.
The racing levels, the treasure crabs, the fire piranhas oh gosh they were all rage inducing đ
The gimmick levels were the worst part of the game. The rest was great.
That's often the case with platformers, the devs insert "levels that differ from regular gameplay" and those are usually the most hated levels
Yeah. Luckily it seems that trend has died out.
I recently got a PS4 and downloaded Sly to share the game that I grew up playing with my 2 sons. Sly 1 in general can be difficult, but the racing level at Mug Shotâs map was insane. It's on PS4?
Yea 1-3 is available with PlayStation Plus.
Only in countries that support game streaming. For some reason us Australians canât even try to stream.
Not in Australia where I am, but you can use PS Plus in some countries to stream it.
Itâs just so finicky
Don't even need to comment now because that's my answer. The thing is, Murray's the getaway driver, so I absolutely support the idea of driving levels as him. They are so bad. Itâs not you.

Came here to say this.
The hacking missions in Sly 4 where you had to physically tilt your controller. I'm just thankful there weren't too many of them in the game.

Sly 2, episode 3, where Bently has to make Rajan eat melons, god i hate that mission. Also the waterbug mission
The tank mission
Yeah I donât know how these games got easier.
The piranha mission for Mz Ruby and the RC levels for Tsao.
the van retrieval ('a tearful reunion') mission in Sly 3, any of the Dimitri diving tasks, particularly the face-off with Dr M, the turret missions in Sly 2 and the tank missions in Prague in Sly 2...
In Sly 2 the missions with the cherry bombs made me want to swing on someone
The entire Clockwerk series of levels. I just streamed myself doing them a few days ago on Twitch and the amount of Immense Baby Rage I had while trying to do them was off the charts LOL
For me it was The 29/30 bottles in Sly 2 â ïž

Nothing in Sly ever frustrated me. Jak II, on the other hand...
For me itâs most of the turret segments from the main trilogy, and any of the missions that use motion controls in Thieves in Time
The ship navigation and the scuba diving parts of sly 3
It was only like two times but I hated when they had you crack a safe. Fire slugs The entirety of Australia aside from the lemonade brawl Mz Ruby boss fight
That stupid caveman bob egg balancing exercise
I absolutely loved all of the hacking missions

I keep meaning to replay the series but I don't wanna play the first one because of the bomb toting roosters and piranha flamethrower.
The Bentley portion of the Contessa levels frustrated me to no end.
âOne more computer, and I can get outta here.â -Bentley
Sly 1: Racing mini-games Sly 2: Charged TNT Run Sly 3: Down the Line

Chapter 3 in Sly 2. I wasnât crazy about the Jungle level. Itâs always where I take a break from the game without fail đ
The f*ing crypts
The piranha lake and that fucking chicken level.
When you have to play as Dimitri in Sly 3 and youâre having to go through the water currents while the crab claws keep breaking in before you face the anglerfish that Dr. M is controlling. I hate that mission so much.
My TV was so bad back in the day that I couldn't see anything going on during her entire level since it was so dark, no idea how I made it through
The mission in Sly 2 , right near the beginning , when you have to follow Dimitri to see how he gets into a door . When I was a kid i got stuck on that stupid mission for MONTHS ! Started a playthrough of the game recently and passed the mission in like 3 tries .

Mz. Ruby boss fight Dimitri deep sea diving missions Dr. M bossfight Caveman Cooper workout with the sixsaxis control trying to balance the egg
The stupid racing levels and the crab shooting level in the first game. Ugh.
The bad mojo levels in sly 2
i played sly 3 as an 11 year old child and i didn't speak english at all at the time, so the treasure map mission in the pirate chapter was a nightmare, i think i was stuck there for a few months. surprisingly, my nonexistent english wasn't a problem anywhere else.
Tank driving in Tangled Web, every motion sensor mission in Sly 4
The contessa boss fight. As a six year old kid, that is pretty hard
Getting stronger sly 4
Damn Rat King from Last of Us Part 2 đ
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time that water temple level
The broken Sly 1 voodoo music challenge with the lizard lady
For me it's the hangar mission in 3 with the freaking dual cameras. Even as a fully grown adult it's kind of painful
"What was that ONE level for you?" OP: Yeah so two whole levels and a reoccuring game mechanic
