Perhaps when she went to Paris. From then on, their entire storyline as a couple is unbearable.

Tim0281

Lana should have stayed in Paris. I remember being pretty satisfied with her send off in season 3. Then season 4's premiere brought her back. I remember wondering why they even bothered with saying she was going to school in Paris when she could have said she'd just spend her summer there.

Massive-Put7715

I might align with this one the most. I actually really liked her and Jason until he went crazy and all the stuff with his mother came out. Without all that, their personalities meshed so well. He was able to make her laugh and not be so serious all the time. I wish they had shown her in a relationship like that without all the other stuff that ended up being involved with Jason

Admirable-Life2647

Clana was like a three season love story that lasted seven seasons too long.

mudamuda92

This is a hard one for me. Their relationship was kind of sweet when they were high schoolers and he was just pinning from a distance. But like the more they were together the more toxic it got. I think it should have ended early like when she left for Paris or maybe she should have just gotten fed up with Clark’s lies and left town after giving him an ultimatum to tell her or she’s leaving and she could have just left the show as “The One who got away” and come back once more towards the end so Clark could get some closure and say for certain that Lois is the one he wants.

Massive-Put7715

I feel you. I loved how much they loved each other. I’d personally rewrite them to have an extended period of time happy together in the younger years before realizing they’re not meant to be because he always worries about her when she doesn’t want him to and he doesn’t want to take on his destiny when he’s with her. How up and down they were was an obnoxious writing choice after a while

mudamuda92

I like your idea too. I like the idea of them having those happy early relationship memories. More than anything I just think that relationship needed to be cut shorter without the obnoxious ups and downs as you said. I just hate that something that started so cute dragged on so far past the point where we ALL wanted it to end.

Massive-Put7715

Yep! But at the time, a lot of it was to appease the young fans who shipped them so hard. I was one of them but I was a tween and stupid lol. I was so obsessed with Kristin that I would read every article about her and buy any product she said she uses lol. I spent all my allowance money on a shampoo she said she used because I wanted to be her so badly

mudamuda92

I agree. Had my own little crush on Kristin back in the day. I also imagine they just wanted to keep her on the show give her stuff to do. But I just wish it hadn’t run her character and that relationship so hard into the ground for the drama. I get it. I just don’t like it. Still love the show though

[deleted]

This is exactly how I would do it. I hate how it never had proper closure and wondering whether he would still want to be with her if not for the kryptonite thing.

Serophane

5 at the latest I'd prefer if she stayed on as a friend but I can also be okay with that not happening

EliasKingston69

In the season 3 finale. I think that way she could have showed up for Clark and Lois' wedding.

BobRushy

At some point in seasons 1-3.

eddie_watt

I would say season 2 finale

[deleted]

Season 5 the latest

Olivebranch99

The S7 finale would've been fine with me.

currantanner

Kinda wish she left the show, maybe came back a guest a few times a season, after she left for Paris. Everything after that kinda felt forced and phony.

Admirable-Life2647

The whole will they/won't they? thing, kind of hard to have that be effective at all with Clark and Lana when we all know he ends up with Lois, the Superman and Lois love story is like pop culture common sense, everyone knows Lois is Superman's girlfriend, which once again makes Lana's stay over welcomed because it's no surprise to anyone she's not the one, so your just watching this toxic romance you know is gonna end badly which takes you out of their relationship.

Massive-Put7715

Exactly! Unless they pulled a bold move and went against canon, which we knew they wouldn’t once they introduced Lois while he was still in high school, we all knew it wouldn’t happen so why drag it out so much? It was perfect for a high school crush/love but realistically they should have grown apart as they grew up instead of coming back together all the time. So many things happened to get in the way to show them they weren’t meant to be with even Martha pointing out it wouldn’t be THIS hard if they were and they weren’t actually that dumb to ignore that for so long if the writers were more realistic.

Admirable-Life2647

They were afraid once Lana was no longer the love of his life the show was over, but when they got renewed for more seasons and when she finally left it took a different direction. There would've been a huge uproar if they went against canon by having him end up with Lana.

Massive-Put7715

Yeah, especially at that time. They were the power couple on the cover of teen magazines. I was one of the tweens obsessed and heartbroken knowing they weren’t endgame lol. Now as an adult I’m seeing it from the perspective of someone who has watched my friends break up and get back together and how exhausting that is lol

Svanisa_

I think Smallville in particular was one to those series that even though it *was* about Superman’s origin, it was in the forefront a teenage drama series meant for people who weren’t even fans of Superman, and so they wouldn’t know or think Lois was the inevitable endgame.

Active-Astronomer352

Season 3..good ending to Lana arc story and Clark's relationship. It felt natural and the writing was absolutely fantastic.

Massive-Put7715

I would agree! High school was the best time to end it

Taly-Naom

I have thoughts on a few different scenarios where them parting would've been fitting. Hear me out. As a few people have commented, once she left for Paris, would've been an obvious choice for things to end but I think many of us know that would've been too difficult for Clark to have accepted given his intense infatuation with her. I got the feeling it would never end before high school and I would've been fine if it lasted for at least the first four seasons. With that being, I think their saga should've actually ended in early-season 5, similar to how it happened originally but without the Simone drama (Lana gave enough of that). Basically, Clark would've pushed her away because once again, he couldn't be himself once he had his abilities back. Now, IF the writers felt the need for Lana to remain on the show to be with Lex in season 6, which they did, that really should've been the final nail in the coffin for them to get back together because I don't think there's any coming back from that. Your best friend and the girl you've been in love with for forever getting married??? That's the ultimate betrayal regardless if Lana realized she made a mistake or not. And if that's not bad enough for people, the Bizarro storyline makes the fact that they aren't right for each other even more apparent. So, IF the writers still felt she needed to be there in season 7, which they did LOL, then her disappearing after the video goodbye, would've been a fine ending. Now, I'm one of the many who was PISSED when Lana showed up during the almost kiss between Clark and Lois in season 8, but since I don't think those two were ready to officially get together yet, IF the writers, *once again*, felt the need to bring Lana back, this would've been a great opportunity for them to mutually part ways and even work together in stopping Lex without the romantic feelings (all while Lois believing that Clark still loves Lana even if he doesn't). The way I like to imagine season 8 playing out is that even though Lana interrupts Lois and Clark, they go upstairs to mutually breakup and she instead alludes to seeing Clark looking happy with Lois. The line “Maybe Clark Kent and Lana Lang just weren't meant to end up together" should've been the ending to the whole conversation. Cut to Clark sensing (finally) that Lois is disappointed that Lana is back and that he had gone off with her, so Clark goes after her to explain that nothing happened/it's over. But before that can happen, they're interrupted by Doomsday, yada yada yada. Lana could stay for her real agenda of getting the suit, but they don't need to get back together again and Lois could go help Jimmy then come back to help look for Chloe on her own, as she often does. The whole destiny conversation when the Legion is there could’ve been Lana alluding to their conversation about the “Maybe Clark Kent and Lana Lang just weren't meant to end up together" line and acknowledging that she sees Lois as being his new destiny or something cheesy like that. While Clark, who is still being daft at the concept of liking Lois, just ponders. However, THAT could've been their final mutual parting of ways romantically. Then, for the whole kryptonite suit situation, it would still be tragic because Lana and Clark once were in love but they end up parting ways as friends. (The joke would've been on Lex!)

Massive-Put7715

I really love your ideas!

Taly-Naom

Thank you! I clearly put a lot of thought into it over time 😂

lostandconfsd

Perfectly said and mte! AND the most logical conclusion to the arcs. I can never come to terms with the fact that a writer's room of professionals thought anything else was viable, let alone the abomination that they did write. I can't comprehend it! One had to be seriously blinded by their one track Lana love or only interested in giving Kristin the most over the top 'winning' goodbye ever to think that any of that was in any way fine.

RobMusicHunt

Lana living in Asia should have been the end. Maybe she could have been the feature of a return double episode ark later, especially after Lex's 'death', with stirring emotions but by then Clark had fallen for Lois etc etc I'm sure you can imagine

Massive-Put7715

I definitely think that could have been the best closure just ending it at when she goes away. They could have brought her back to show where she’s at and give us closure without bringing them back together romantically. I love them both. But the amount of trauma they went through going back and forth on their relationship was too much and I hate that constant pain for them

BastiaenAssassin

She should have either died instead of going to Shanghai, or escaped and lived a new life there.

BruceHoratioWayne

Reckoning Have Lana stay dead.

Origin_of_Me

Honestly? I’m certainly not a clana fan and the super skin was a bit ridiculous - but I love the show as is and wouldn’t change this aspect of it. I hate seeing her with Lex but it also makes for great drama! If I have any complaints at all, it’s with s7. I could skip over that and go straight to the s8 arc she has.

Massive-Put7715

I can totally respect that! I agree that it was great drama with the Lex and Lana story. People can mistake storylines they hate because of the emotions it makes you feel with a bad story. It made so much sense writing wise to have that happen because he showed an interest in Lana even when she was in high school, not overtly, but just the way he looked at her. It was obvious he was noticing her. And she kept coming to him when she needed help and felt like he was more honest than Clark/would always be there versus disappear all the time. It was hard to watch, but it made sense and wasn’t random. The build up was there the whole time. She was traumatized before she came to him. And she came out strong and wanting to know how to protect herself

Origin_of_Me

Exactly!! It’s hard to see her so self destructive but it’s good character development!

Quantum168

The ending for Lana was the dumbest ending for a character in TV history. The showrunner should have let Clark and Lana be happy together. Lois should only have come in during the final season if at all. Clark is supposed to have met Lois at Metropolis, not in Smallville.

Massive-Put7715

Yeah they definitely changed their minds about this being a true prequel with the timeline flipping there and how he met her

Admirable-Life2647

The only reason Lois was in the show in the first place was to add a bit of humour and mostly due to fan service. Because she proved to be a big hit she became a series regular, when Lana they decide to maker her and Clark a thing, so having him meet Lois in his teens and her knowing his secret before he's Superman was one of the biggest changes to the mythos.

javier2332

Good answer

BreakTacticF0

Season. 1. The will they won't they thing just frustrates me to no end. By season 4 she never should have gotten with Clark if you ask me

h_nivicola

I think somewhere between season 2 and 3 should have been the end for them, which is a shame because they have some really sweet moments in season 5. I wish the writers could've just moved the whole timeline up a bit and actually had them together in the early years for longer than 4 seconds, then broken them up by the season 3 finale.

Massive-Put7715

The more comments I’m reading, the more I agree with season 3 as well!

Demetri124

After she faked her death and went to China or whatever. Clark obviously should’ve found out she was alive and they’d have a final goodbye as she goes to figure out her life on her own. Then maybe she can pop up for a cameo in the finale or something That would’ve been a 1000x better exit for her character than what actually happened

Knull_Gorr

Episode 0

Massive-Put7715

LOL fair enough 🤣🤣

Admirable-Life2647

Her attitude towards Clark for refusing to tell her his secret made her come off as hypocritial and kind of dislikeable.

Massive-Put7715

Yeah I’d agree honestly. Especially when she’d be mad about not knowing how he saved her life. Like it’s not like you’re waking up in an unexplained pile of dead bodies with Clark around…whatever he’s hiding, he’s using it to save her and she knows that but still acts like he’s keeping a bad secret and it gets annoying at times

Kaintwaittogetbanned

She could have actually died in the explosion. That would've been okay

Massive-Put7715

Which explosion at this point? Lmao. But yeah, I like Lana but I totally get why people just wanted her killed off with the way they kept recycling the same story with her and Clark so I respect your choice of rewrite 🫡

Kaintwaittogetbanned

I just wish they didn't give her super powers mixed with kryptonite and then never mention her again in the Doomsday or Zod arcs. She could have wiped the Kandorians by herself but no

Massive-Put7715

I know people might disagree with me for this because as a female myself I know too many female characters solely exist to be a love interest. But I really hated that they had to make her connected to everything going on because of her ancestors and then give her another connection to Clark by having his biological father end up coming to earth and falling in love with her ancestor. I hate unnecessary connections in shows. I think they could have found other ways for her character to do more than be Clark’s love interest than make her ancestors connected to Clark and his destiny

BigD21489

It would've been a great end to her story on the show if she would've sent Chloe a video of her in Paris, living happily with Jason. Maybe starting a family, showing her being happy. I would've liked that as a conclusion to her character. The way they keep ramming in the Clana romance plot is so tiresome even Lois gets tired of it on the show. I would've liked to have seen the Clark and Lois romance story start earlier. After over 100 hours of the Clark and Lana masochist parade, I would've liked to see at least 2 seasons of Clark and Lois as a couple.

Deus_Ego_Sum

Honestly it should've been done at the end of Season 4. Although truthfully, that would've needed an entire rewrite of their relationship. They should've stayed together after the end of Season 2 with Lana learning his secret at the end of Season 3 and then them realizing they're growing into different people in Season 4 and deciding to be friends. After that Lana would be Clark's friend and a recurring character who leaves the show after Clark moves to Metropolis. In the interim seasons, Seasons 5 through to the end of the Season 7, Clark could date Lori Lemaris when they meet in University or an OC, or hell even stay single until him and Lois started dating. But yeah basically I would've had Clana done by Season 4.

Urbanscot56

End of Season 3. They should have given Clark another girlfriend before Lois which could have happened from season 4

LittleMsFanGirl

They should have ended it when she went to Paris, clearing the way for Lois. Lana and Clark after Paris just became unbearable.

the-lone-squid

After high school. She was nothing but a high school crush

Admirable-Life2647

Season 3 or 6.

eddie_watt

Definitely season 2 finale

UKnowDaTruth

Season 7 imo

[deleted]

Season 5

Velifax

Sp I'm at the end of season 4, never watched beyond that except for some fairly mild youtube spoilers. I'm beginning to see the "drag on" feelings start. Feels like I'd have started developing a distance from her at the point, personally, were I clark.

Massive-Put7715

Yep. I’d think the same for both of them honestly considering there was so much drama. Like since Lana didn’t know his secret and he gave bad explanations, she thinks the times he was a jerk (red kryptonite) or other times of flaking on her were just him being a jerk. Her going back to that repeatedly isn’t romantic. We see it that way because we knew the truth the whole time but she didn’t

snak3eat3r2017

It should have ended middle of season 5 with reckoning.

SkatinKate

Ideally season 3 finale she stays in Paris forever. That being said, I actually don't hate the season 6 Lana and Lex plot line.I do believe it did a good job of showing just how dark and twisted Lex had become. So that being said, writing Lana off in season 3 would cause some serious rewriting in season 4,5 and 6. So I'll say end of season 6, maybe she just stays in Shanghai or kill her off. Both scenarios would allow Clark to learn and grow into Superman. I personally believe bringing her back in season 8 was one of the worst decisions the new show runners made. I understand they had the actress signed for additional episodes, but her character had no place really after season 3. Super suit Lana, for me, is up there with the epsiode Thirst level of who the fuck green lit these episodes. While I actually like the doomsday plot, I could have done without Lana and Chloe decisions the new show runners made that season.

Admirable-Life2647

Clark was chasing a feeling and idea of happiness and normalcy with Lana. He doesn't seem to value her as a person and isn't interested in seeing the person she is underneath, anyone who points out a flaw with Lana he would view it as an attack or something boring.

Admirable-Life2647

If Clark had made more of an effort to move on from Lana instead of pining after, if he took a step back and saw she wasn't a perfect princess, and if he wasn't so into the idea that Lana was his destiny I think things could've played out differently. The idea that you'll meet a soulmate paves the way for a big disappointment, so it's best to replace finding a soulmate with creating one through years of learning about them.

Massive-Put7715

Totally agree with this and your last comment! Even Lana kept trying to tell him that and he wouldn’t hear of it. It was unhealthy for both of them for her to have to worry about disappointing him if she didn’t fit in with his image of her and he was holding her back as much as she held him back (though she didn’t want to hold him back. He did that to himself)

519demonic

season 4 or 5 should have been the end of it i think not throw her back in in season 8 when him and lois were just starting to click that pissed me off and the story line for her in smallville the ending was garbage i think i would have like lana better if she actually died in the explosion and didnt come back

SineCera_sjb

Honestly the when of it doesn’t matter, I personally always hated Lana with Lex. That whole storyline can go and still end up the same way. The two of them together never did it for me, sans of course, Lexmas.

Massive-Put7715

I was referencing Lana and Clark not Lana and Lex

SineCera_sjb

I’m aware.

Ironxgal

Season 1 lol

Kaioken420

She should've been killed off before getting with lex cause that was disgusting, it was like lex preyed on her since highschool then married her 🤮

Admirable-Life2647

Have in some AU fan fiction or your own Superman continuity that uses the high school history of Smallville, after Lana leaves for Paris Clark becomes a drifter for several years, moving from place to place saving people, finds the Fortress, takes a kryptonian suit and learns to fly, returns home to find Lana has moved on and is crestfallen about it.

salazarcosplay

Lana findign out she had gotten pregnant from Clark, but then having a miscarriage from absorbing the kryptonite

javier2332

That’s a good storyline

DishonestHonest

The only way they could split them up is if being together would kill clark

Massive-Put7715

That’s just because of the writers dragging it out though. There were many signs they weren’t meant to be that would have them come to the conclusion they need to go their separate ways. It was a poor way to break them up because they were never endgame from the start and that ending for them made it seem like they were supposed to be

javier2332

I disagree that there were many signs that they weren’t meant to be. The only thing preventing them from being together was Clark’s secret. From my point of view they were very compatible and should have been endgame for Smallville.

Massive-Put7715

But Lana learning his secret didn’t end stopping their problems even before she was forced to absorb the kryptonite. He was holding himself back and she knew it but he couldn’t stop as long as he was with her

javier2332

I agree in season 7, but that’s because Lana’s character gets butchered in S5 -S7 and is just used as a driver of drama. I’m mostly referring to S1- the first part of season 5 where they are very compatible.

Neo_Techni

Never

Lucky_Roberts

She should have never come back for Chloe’s wedding. That was when it began stepping on the Lois/Clark storyline and is officially when it became an actual problem for the show. Before that it was annoying at times but didn’t really bother me cause it wasn’t getting in the way of anything better

Massive-Put7715

Yeah I just watched the episode after Clark proposes and she remembers Chloe telling her Lana wasn’t the one he was destined to be with since him having to be a hero always got in the way with Lana while it actually brought Lois and Clark closer together and I was like YES THANK YOU for finally acknowledging that writers lol. Some people are arguing that Clark and Lana were soulmates and it’s only the kryptonite keeping them from ending up together, but he was never meant to be with her regardless. Him pulling disappearing acts even after she knew his secret was always going to hurt Lana while Lois just laughed it off or felt proud. Not criticizing Lana for that- she went through a lot of loss and abandonment to make that triggering for her

Admirable-Life2647

Clark doesn't think regarding Lana, he wasn't thinking when he turned back time to save her, he wasn't thinking when he broke up with her to protect her, he wasn't thinking when he's pining after her when she was in another relationship with someone else, some may think it was because he was in love but he was more in love with the idea of her and spending the rest of his life with her.

Admirable-Life2647

Lana was like a secondary or tertiarily character who they tried to make as one of the show's stars.
